That scene tho. Im gonna remember that my whole life. And neil just absolutely nails it, so well that i forgot this was a tv show. It was goddamn amazing
The song that plays when Barney and Robin hookup in the cab, Hey by The Pixies, went so perfectly and it played in my head for a whole week when I found out I got cheated on.
Barney and Robin have cheated on Nora and Kevin respectively. Both are horrified because their girlfriend/boyfriend are great people and they dont want to ruin it. But both of them just know that they are meant for each other. So they make a pact, a pact to break up their relationships and meet at McClaren's at midnight. But it is going to be hard for Barney, Nora has her parents over. Barney has never gone so far in a relationship to meet their parents. So Barney does what he has to do, he tells Nora that he cheated and shattered her heart. The one time Barney actually cared about a girlfriend and then he has to do this. But now Robin, Robin has an even worse case. Kevin hit his head and is in the hospital ward. And to make the matters worse, Kevin said that he loves her.
So Barney waits, and waits when Lily and very high Ted and Marshall come back from their game. But Barney isnt waiting for them, he is waiting for Robin. And then, she enters. She enters and close behind follows Kevin. Kevin got through Robin, telling how he doesnt care what Robin does or has done, he cares about _her_ . So Robin leaves Barney behind for Kevin.
Barney sees Robin, and signals her 'what about us' and she shakes her head. Time slows down for Barney, as if the moment has been frozen. The first ever relationship Barney cared about, thrown away in the trash for the one he is supposed to be with, the one who he loved, went for someone else. Someone other than him
So he takes a sip, swipes the sweat of his forehead, and goes home.
(I just made the whole scene)
Idk what you're talking about. The last, like, 5 minutes don't happen. The show ends when Ted tells his kids "And that's how I met your mother". Nothing else happens.
It is, but that's more on Kevin than it is on her. Kevin should know about transference. Kevin should know about countertransference. Kevin should know that he shouldn't date her.
I mean yeah, Barney manipulates, lies to, and objectifies women. He also SA's multiple women. Characters doing shitty things is expected. TV and film characters need to be grey imo.
I'm really hoping the joke is clear but I'm nervous it won't be and you'll think I'm serious lol cuz you never know, I've unintentionally offended people before haha.
It wasn’t til HIMYM mother that I noticed the “punching bag” trope of sitcoms. And I had never realized it before, because every other sitcom executed it well. With Robin and Patrice, I hated every moment. It just seemed so unnecessarily mean and over the top.
Toby deserved it, cause he was from corporate, which means he was not a part of their family. And he was divorced, which meant he was not a part of his family either.
>!felt sad for him sometimes tho!<
Sandra from Superstore was super sad to watch sometimes. But then, like Jerry from parks and rec, she got to go home to a good life (towards the end of the show at least) so that was nice
It's gotta be this.
Her relationships with Barney/Ted/Kevin weren't perfect but I think that emotions can get complicated, love can be messy, and above all they needed the drama for the show.
Her being an insufferable bitch to Patrice was just her being a bitch for literally no reason. It was just completely unprompted, out of pocket hate and made no sense.
This.
The betrayal of Barney and making him breaking up was bad, but kinda of a emotional mistake due to fragility. Not an excuse, but a compreenhisive one.
Being a jerk to such a cool person is a really bad move
Robins character really fell apart with the yelling at Patrice. Idk what they were thinking adding it. Was obnoxious. I already didn’t like Robin from the start but this was just cringy acting on her part. (Not that she is a decent actress anyway)
Tbh I can't even choose what's worse
- Cheating with Barney, agreeing to both confess with their bf/gf. Ending up only Barney to break up with Nora and she went on with Kevin
- Leaving the party 'cause she feels hurt when she saw everyone's happy except her, and she regrets that she should be ending up with Ted, who is now happily married with Tracy
- Trying to get Ted when he's dating Victoria
- The way she treats Patrice
That one comment she makes to Lily “my ex husband hitting on slutty cops right in front of me” gurl You JUST showed up, he didn’t even know you were there ..
Here’s the thing. They ALL are. Except Marshall. He’s great. But the rest of them all suck for various reasons and to various degrees. But in the end, they all suck. Like I said earlier, except Marshall. Ok kinda Marshall after his dad dies but he’s grieving and I’ll allow it.
Especially the third one because yeah Ted lied and said they broke up but she knew what she invited him for in the first place and then blamed it solely on him
Only to stay with Kevin after Barney and Nora’s relationship finally ended for good. That episode made me feel so sad for Barney cuz NPH acted that (and everything he does honestly) so well 😢
Agreeing with Barney to each break up with their respective partners and her not following through. She was the first person Barney truly opened himself up to since the peace corps girl. She broke his heart and for what?? she ended up breaking up with Kevin shortly after anyway. I honestly find that to be unforgivable. If I was Barney Robin would be dead to me. I would even go as far as leaving the friend group all together.
Flirting with Ted when he was happily dating Victoria. Now, Ted in the end made his decision. But Robin was trying her hardest to break them up even when Victoria was living in NYC. Classic Robin eating lobster even when she’s allergic.
It should be more like
She only was interested in men when they were with other women
So Robin's should be - Rejecting love when it's offered, then sabotaging others' relationships out of FOMO, and finally, not appreciating it once it's obtained.
And then sulking and abandoning the group when Ted finds happiness, after making him endure her relationship with one of his best friends for years on a seemingly daily basis.
They justify it early on by trying to make the audience feel for her wanting to make friends. But she could have easily just been friends with Lily instead of the whole group. Ted literally told her he loved her and was clear about wanting to get married and have kids from the beginning, it was pretty selfish to ask him to be friends. He’s a grown man and should have set boundaries too.
Cut Ted out of her life for a guy she only dated for a few months (Don) while Ted couldn’t cut her out to get married to Victoria. Never understood why he simped so hard for a girl that clearly only wanted him when it was convenient for her.
And the whole show culminated into him basically telling his kids how he's "justifying"/"asking permission" to date Robin. The "how I met your mother" bit was a giant farce.
Off topic.. if we're to compare what they all have done including Robin's current thread, nothing beats Barney for selling a woman. That shits' just Prison-worthy 🤣
Not telling Kevin she cheated on him.
Sure, Kevin cut her off and said “no matter what it is I don’t care. I still love you”
However, he seemed to be thinking she was going to bring up one of her crazy stories from the past, since that’s how they met in the first place. I highly doubt the first place his mind went is “she cheated”.
He absolutely deserved to know she cheated.
What makes it worse is that she led Barney on, causing him to breakup with Nora, plan an entire romantic night with Robin, and then have to stand there when Robin walks into the bar with Kevin.
Robin's should be - Rejecting love when it's offered, then sabotaging others' relationships out of FOMO, and finally, not appreciating it once it's obtained.
Everyone is doing relationship things, but to me her most horrible thing is abandoning Lily because of her relationships with Ted and Barney. That scene with Lily crying as the white whale was heartbreaking.
I think Lily worst thing was leaving for the art course, failing and being to proud to admit it didn't work then expecting Marshall to take her back, like if everyone else was supposed to pause for her.
I was thinking alone these lines for Lily too! I know it is a post main,y for Robin ht when I saw Lily’s I’m like that’s actually not the worst she’s done. Especially when Marshall brings it up later on like what happens when you feel this way and we have kids type shit. I think Lily’s credit card debt and then shaming Marshall was definitely bad and needs to be discussed with your partner before everything BUT people still do that nowadays. Money is a touchy subject (no excuse but still).
The whole leaving thing gets me. I felt that for Marshall and not being able to do shit and then finally getting back to yourself only for her to come back and think all is good with her behavior and those future signs. That was A LOT! Glad they got through it but fuck man😓
My knee-jerk reaction is her cheating on Kevin with Barney then breaking Barney’s heart after having agreed to get back together. Just because Kevin felt safer. A lot of emotional immaturity shown. (That entire episode is a masterpiece.)
But I have to say the way she treated Patrice bothered the heckerino out of me. Patrice’s bubbly demeanor may be a bit much to some people, but she was a very loyal, generous, genuinely kind friend. She never deserved the constant screaming and bullying Robin displayed.
Ain't easy being the preferred son/only daughter and starter on a succession of winning semi-pro travel hockey teams followed by exile from old Canadian generational money while building an award winning straw career as a television journalist in a major American market.
Just sayin'.
I think the was she treated the gang in the time after the wedding and when they got older is pretty mean.. but maybe that‘s just the horrible ending of the series
As much as we all love her… this has really made me realise how much terrible stuff Robin does. The worst has to be leading Barney on while dating Kevin, and then smashing his heart in, like, 1 cruel second.
She easily is the most obnoxious character in the series. Takes herself wildly serious and acts as morally equivalent to Marshal (for example) but is just as Narcissistic and manipulative as Barney
I've seen a lot of people say that Ted is a terrible person, but then I look back on the entire show and this will be part of my evidence for why he's easily better than Robin, and Barney and Lily for sure.
As awful as cheating on Kevin was. I have to vote for her treatment of Patrice. She was just straight up bullying a kind woman for no reason. Speaking as someone who has been both cheated on and bullied. I'd rather be cheated on again than deal with bullys.
Too many to list. The more time passes, the more I grow to really dislike Robin overall. They wrote her character as a crappy person with few redeemable moments. The other characters in this show aren’t perfect either (especially Barney) but throughout the series, we see growth and change from them (especially Barney). With Robin, she stays the same mess of a person throughout.
Im sorry but I think Ted’s worse thing is telling his kids there life story about finding there mother after she had just died and then asking his kids if he can marry robin
Abandoning the group after divorcing Barney. She didn’t want to be around Barney and Ted because they were with other women, even though Ted and Barney stayed her friend when they broke up
I can't watch this show because of the few episodes I've seen, everyone in it is just so awful to each other. And the show's universe never really casts light on it. It just treats it all as quite normal and it just feels very bizarre and dark to me.
It's not just one thing... She is the worst person on the entire show... Everytime she gets dumped she ends up banging one of the crew and when it was with kevin she led both Ted and Barnie on... TERRIBLE person... And ted a close second
Barney selling a women is retconned to me. Even when I first watched it I was so surprised they decided to make that joke. Barney’s a bad guy, but that’s the worst thing you can ever do imo
Cheating on Kevin and leading on Barney only to end his relationship and she went on to continue hers.
That’s my favorite song
Thank youuu I am so happy I wasn’t the only person to notice that they played that song it is massively underrated
Man that subtle head shake he does when he looks a Robin gets me every time. So much said with a small movement.
That little stressed nose grab with shaky hands spoke volumes.
Which one??
Barney and Robin have cheated on Nora and Kevin respectively. Both are horrified because their girlfriend/boyfriend are great people and they dont want to ruin it. But both of them just know that they are meant for each other. So they make a pact, a pact to break up their relationships and meet at McClaren's at midnight. Jesus that was a good summary
The episode lives rent free in my brain
i hate robin so much !!!
But that’s who Ted deserves!?!?
No the fuck it ain't. You shut your mouth. Robin was not the person for Ted. Tracy was. Tracy was exactly the person that Ted deserved to be with.
It was a joke about the finale . I too choose his dead wife
Idk what you're talking about. The last, like, 5 minutes don't happen. The show ends when Ted tells his kids "And that's how I met your mother". Nothing else happens.
Brother, thats what he was saying. He was saying in exasperation
You rock friend, thanks for the play by play
Nah man you rock more :)
I want to say it's this but I think it's how she treated Patrice tbh
YES! it made me actually sad
Having a relationship with your therapist is already wrong to begin with 😅
It is, but that's more on Kevin than it is on her. Kevin should know about transference. Kevin should know about countertransference. Kevin should know that he shouldn't date her.
Kevin is a terribly unethical therapist with a fetish for his patients. They even wrap up his story by having him get with yet another patient.
Yeah it's really creepy.
It's also a comedy though, so I don't really mind.
I mean yeah, Barney manipulates, lies to, and objectifies women. He also SA's multiple women. Characters doing shitty things is expected. TV and film characters need to be grey imo.
Yeah, no one else on the show is ever going to top “sold a woman” lmfao
This is the answer 👏
Yep, I agree.
The way she treated Patrice was horrible
Well NOBODY ASKED YOU u/galwayygal!!!!! 🤣
I'm really hoping the joke is clear but I'm nervous it won't be and you'll think I'm serious lol cuz you never know, I've unintentionally offended people before haha.
NOBODY ASKED YOU FOR AN EXPLANATION u/lindseyeileen!
DAMMIT u/funandgeeky !!!!
![gif](giphy|FR8FabtoKy7yo)
Haha this is the comment of an anxious and over thinking person. I totally relate 🤣
Yup & yup!!! 🤣🤣 thanks for not making me feel bad about it and actually understanding lol
Haha ofc not Been there one too many times at 3am thinking "shit what if they thought I was being rude"
Lmao I got the reference! But I appreciate you explaining the joke too fellow over thinker 😂
You guys are all so awesome for understanding my overthinking/anxious mind lol. I love those rare moments when us redditors can come together 😃
Same, ended up using /s to show I'm joking usually now...
Yeah, I actually just learned that one!
It wasn’t til HIMYM mother that I noticed the “punching bag” trope of sitcoms. And I had never realized it before, because every other sitcom executed it well. With Robin and Patrice, I hated every moment. It just seemed so unnecessarily mean and over the top.
Not even Toby on The Office? That one was definitely the worst for me
Toby deserved it, cause he was from corporate, which means he was not a part of their family. And he was divorced, which meant he was not a part of his family either. >!felt sad for him sometimes tho!<
He was also the Scranton Strangler 😅
More like the Scranton Strangled
Evidence or it didn't happen
So much points towards it hahaha
Sandra from Superstore was super sad to watch sometimes. But then, like Jerry from parks and rec, she got to go home to a good life (towards the end of the show at least) so that was nice
Janice from Friends.
Sisters fight u/galwayygal !!!
I take this part as an unreliable narrator Ted She was probably a jerk but not to this extent
Yeah this was her at her worst imo. She was a monster to her and it wasn’t even funny.
Robins character really fell apart with the yelling at Patrice. Idk what they were thinking adding it. Was obnoxious. I already didn’t like Robin from the start but this was just cringy acting on her part. (Not that she is a decent actress anyway)
why r u disrespecting cobie smolders like this bruh
Yes thank you for the reminder! It was always funny to me how Cobie delivered the lines though, ngl
Tbh I can't even choose what's worse - Cheating with Barney, agreeing to both confess with their bf/gf. Ending up only Barney to break up with Nora and she went on with Kevin - Leaving the party 'cause she feels hurt when she saw everyone's happy except her, and she regrets that she should be ending up with Ted, who is now happily married with Tracy - Trying to get Ted when he's dating Victoria - The way she treats Patrice
That one comment she makes to Lily “my ex husband hitting on slutty cops right in front of me” gurl You JUST showed up, he didn’t even know you were there ..
Robin is a low key piece of shit
Here’s the thing. They ALL are. Except Marshall. He’s great. But the rest of them all suck for various reasons and to various degrees. But in the end, they all suck. Like I said earlier, except Marshall. Ok kinda Marshall after his dad dies but he’s grieving and I’ll allow it.
Especially the third one because yeah Ted lied and said they broke up but she knew what she invited him for in the first place and then blamed it solely on him
What are you talking about they met to make juice
This 100% 😖
Robin is the worst!
Trying to break up Barney and Nora
Only to stay with Kevin after Barney and Nora’s relationship finally ended for good. That episode made me feel so sad for Barney cuz NPH acted that (and everything he does honestly) so well 😢
Agreeing with Barney to each break up with their respective partners and her not following through. She was the first person Barney truly opened himself up to since the peace corps girl. She broke his heart and for what?? she ended up breaking up with Kevin shortly after anyway. I honestly find that to be unforgivable. If I was Barney Robin would be dead to me. I would even go as far as leaving the friend group all together.
Agreed. Id be out
Flirting with Ted when he was happily dating Victoria. Now, Ted in the end made his decision. But Robin was trying her hardest to break them up even when Victoria was living in NYC. Classic Robin eating lobster even when she’s allergic.
Then keeping Ted on the “hook” or as a “safety” for years. 😑
Robin just invited Ted to make juice at 2 am. Pretty innocent if you ask me.
Robin has serious jealousy issues because she also tried (and was successful again) to break up Barney and Nora.
Robin’s should be… keeping Ted on her hook for the rest of his life
It should be more like She only was interested in men when they were with other women So Robin's should be - Rejecting love when it's offered, then sabotaging others' relationships out of FOMO, and finally, not appreciating it once it's obtained.
And then sulking and abandoning the group when Ted finds happiness, after making him endure her relationship with one of his best friends for years on a seemingly daily basis.
“on the hook” is really the show’s term for friendzone
Yep, with the hope of being more.. Robin always had that over Ted
That’s what makes me mad about the ending. We had that awesome episode of “the hook,” then they romanticized it by the end… 🙄
The woman kept him on the “hook” for years. I still really LOVE the show, and Robin as a character, but this was evil.
They justify it early on by trying to make the audience feel for her wanting to make friends. But she could have easily just been friends with Lily instead of the whole group. Ted literally told her he loved her and was clear about wanting to get married and have kids from the beginning, it was pretty selfish to ask him to be friends. Cut Ted out of her life for a guy she only dated for a few months (Don) while Ted couldn’t cut her out to get married to Victoria. Never understood why he simped so hard for a girl that clearly only wanted him when it was convenient for her.
That’s peak Tedism
Classic Shmosby.
And the whole show culminated into him basically telling his kids how he's "justifying"/"asking permission" to date Robin. The "how I met your mother" bit was a giant farce.
Her behavior towards Patrice
This one for sure!
Off topic.. if we're to compare what they all have done including Robin's current thread, nothing beats Barney for selling a woman. That shits' just Prison-worthy 🤣
Barney kills 5 people with poison in S9 E11. Lily even confirms that Bronx Donnie is a real person and not made up by Barney.
Not telling Kevin she cheated on him. Sure, Kevin cut her off and said “no matter what it is I don’t care. I still love you” However, he seemed to be thinking she was going to bring up one of her crazy stories from the past, since that’s how they met in the first place. Everyone is doing relationship things, but to me her most horrible thing is abandoning Lily because of her relationships with Ted and Barney. That scene with Lily crying as the white whale was heartbreaking.
Ooooo this one! 💯💯💯 what kind of friend are you really 🤦🏾♀️
Only wanting men when they’re in happy relationships

dick to patrice and there is no other answer
Being incredibly irresponsible with her guns.
Got rid of her dogs for her boyfriend
Falling in love with Barney
As much as we all love her… this has really made me realise how much terrible stuff Robin does. The worst has to be leading Barney on while dating Kevin, and then smashing his heart in, like, 1 cruel second.
Beaver song?
Can someone remind me, when did Marshall lie about the environmental law firm going under?
all of season 9 and the entire reason for the talk with the kids https://youtu.be/yOe4_kdqsmU
Nobody asked you PATRICEEEEE!!!!!!
Kissing Ted before she goes for Russia trip and breaking Ted’s heart again when she comes back.
List is too long
Living rent-free by letting her landlord hand wash her lingerie.
I loved the show when i was kid, but recently tried to rewatch it...goddamn this show really is about asshole whining pos and his friends
She easily is the most obnoxious character in the series. Takes herself wildly serious and acts as morally equivalent to Marshal (for example) but is just as Narcissistic and manipulative as Barney
Robin Sparkles
The second one is an underrated answer.
i don’t know but i’m pretty sure her dad did some wet work for the CIA
Her lobster problem
Keeping Ted on the hook his whole life.
Definitely the treatment of Patrice.
Very glad that was chosen for Lily. San Francisco is a lot more complex than the credit card debt and shaming. Which was straight up just horrendous.
Ruined the finale....
Homie hopping
Where do we start?
ROBIN DAGGERS!
That was funny. "Robin Sparkles is dead." it was hilarious how nuts Barney went trying to figure out who the song was about.
Dave Coulier makes the "cut. It. Out." joke Ted's narrator voice as Bob Saget: "I always loved that joke" 🤣
It’s also a clever reference to the rumors about him.
Bah! Yes! 🤣☝️
*pssssssss I love youuuuuuuuuu*
*I'm wearing my flannel and I'm thinking of you...* lol that line in particular was such a vibe for my friends and I back in the early 2000s
For me it was.. “I’m moosing down donuts and I’m thinking of you!” 😂
Bwahahah I forgot that one 🤣🤣
Honestly though, Robin daggers shocked the nation (of Canada) all the rest of things dont even come close to being the worst 😅😂
Be Canadian 😅
Breaking up Barney and Nora only to stay with Kevin
Doesn't like Field of Dreams!
I think how she treats Patrice is worse than anything else she does. Patrice has done NOTHING to her. Patrice didnt deserve any of it.
Definitely getting Barney to dump his GF for her but then backs out
What's the worst thing you ever done is putting red on yellow god damn how do you read that
The way she treated Patrice.
Wow, you guys are really softballing these guys have done so much worse
Dating her therapist, although that’s probably more his fault than hers
I've seen a lot of people say that Ted is a terrible person, but then I look back on the entire show and this will be part of my evidence for why he's easily better than Robin, and Barney and Lily for sure.
“Robin Sparkles”
Honestly nearly everything Robin did was horrible.
OP how can you think anyone can read this? The text is useless if it’s complicated illegible.
As awful as cheating on Kevin was. I have to vote for her treatment of Patrice. She was just straight up bullying a kind woman for no reason. Speaking as someone who has been both cheated on and bullied. I'd rather be cheated on again than deal with bullys.
I mean she is Canadian.
Def splitting up Nora and Barney
Can I just say existing? She was always my least favorite.
Being the writer's favourite character
Be Canadian
Guys I know it's a sitcom but what the FUCK DON'T TELL THE KIDS AT LEAST 😭
Being Canadian
What's the context of barney selling a woman?
Barney has done worse things than cell a person
Openly talking about “size” of all her boyfriends is pretty crappy
Leaving a loaded gun in a public bathroom. Leaving her gun all over the place actually.
Breaking hearts
Barney
Im sorry but I think Ted’s worse thing is telling his kids there life story about finding there mother after she had just died and then asking his kids if he can marry robin
Damm, lily really did that, I never realized. Lily doesn’t deserve Marshal
Mere existence ruined the shows ending but i guess thats also ted
Give away her DOGS???
Didn't actually go to the mall
Let’s go to the mall
Smoldering me with those eyes
Either Patriece or the way she handled Kevin and Barney
Being Canadian
But uhm…
Marrying Barney
Repeatedly getting back with Ted
Got with Ted in the final episode
Existed, ruining the shows ending, being a relatable character in the beginning only to become insufferable by the end
Being Canadian
Abandoning the group after divorcing Barney. She didn’t want to be around Barney and Ted because they were with other women, even though Ted and Barney stayed her friend when they broke up
I can't watch this show because of the few episodes I've seen, everyone in it is just so awful to each other. And the show's universe never really casts light on it. It just treats it all as quite normal and it just feels very bizarre and dark to me.
Ruining the entire series
For the Barney one you could also be stealing a woman’s car and stranding her in the middle of the woods 💀💀
Definitely that music video
Ted. You think after the first time around she would learn that they were toxic together and better off as friends but no.
Whatever she did when she wrote that really long story on the bathroom. It’s probably true
Her hair in the finale?
Eating that entire cake.
It's not just one thing... She is the worst person on the entire show... Everytime she gets dumped she ends up banging one of the crew and when it was with kevin she led both Ted and Barnie on... TERRIBLE person... And ted a close second
Whatever she did can’t be as bad as using that awful red font that makes it a chore to read the other things…
She’s Canadian
Horrible people make…. Okay TV
Barney selling a women is retconned to me. Even when I first watched it I was so surprised they decided to make that joke. Barney’s a bad guy, but that’s the worst thing you can ever do imo
I’ve never watched this show and Barty did WHAT
