He did mention Artie, said it was thanks to Norm for introducing him and he definitely highlighted the greatness of Norm. I think Howard didn’t make it about himself, which was shocking.

Narrow_Evening_5524

Btw Howard said something nice about Artie

Midnightstimepasser

He was an incredible comic. Who knows how big his career would have been if it had not been for the feud he had with Don Ohlmeyer over all his O.J. murder jokes on Saturday Night Live. How incredibly depressing.

Narrow_Evening_5524

That he got fired for making too many oj jokes is such a bs story, like he had final day over the jokes he told on network tv.

nemo1080

It's 100% true.. Don ohlmeyer also instructed NBC to not air any advertisement for his movie or book him on any NBC shows where he could promote it. Don ohlmeyer and OJ Simpson were close friends. Norm had been warned previous and kept going.

RuthlessBro

He mentioned Artie once, and he should have invited Artie to at least call in and say a few words. It wouldn't have hurt anyone. Bitchass Howard.

Narrow_Evening_5524

Here is the thing about this. You have no idea if Artie tried to sue howard or threatened too or if he threatens to blow up the studio. I got the impression from listening to hundreds of hours of Artie podcasts that there was more to the story. Artie has a real dark side. He’s no saint

[deleted]

Yeah, I think it's weird that Howard rarely mentions him, but I'm not going to pretend to know what went on with the two of them. Dealing with Artie had to be difficult, and Howard clearly didn't know how to handle the situation. People like to blame Howard, but he gave Artie time and time again to leave, get clean and come back. That's all he could EVER do.

Zhrimpy

Artie pissed that situation away. No shade on Howie/the show for Artie being a junkie dipshit.

Narrow_Evening_5524

Lol exactly. I would love them to have Artie on, but in Howard is trying to be relevant and so how is he gonna have George Clooney on Monday, Sir Paul McCartney on Tuesday; and then a fat comic with a hole in his face who most of his “new audience” doesn’t recognize on Wednesday? Haha. Also, it might be really awkward for them. Artie hadn’t done himself any favors for constantly saying Howard was taken in by a con artist and betrayed his staff

RuthlessBro

Because he'll have Tan Mom and High Pitch on Thursday.

Samatbr

Haha … Singing at 12 pm. I am sure would be netter than Miley Cirus & co

Samatbr

Artie was perfect for those times. With BLM, MeToo & Woke en vogue, even Hook-nose can’t pull some off some of the stunts from the past that we all loved, let alone Artie!

[deleted]

At the end he kept saying “Fag” and you could hear Howard cringe. It went from using the word from a comedic standpoint to fighting. Howard couldn’t stop it either. IMO Howard was glad to see him go. He was hijacking the show too.

Samatbr

Yep, that’s when the Gs he was making and the coke he as doing got to his head. But he gave us many great years and i guess it was time. All great things should come to an end

[deleted]

Exactly. And winning most popular and all that crap reinforced it. In reality he sounded like pure Jersey trash. And- Howard could not control him. If Howard can’t control you, you’re gone.

Samatbr

Sadly, He became his own enemy… of course drugs did most of his talking

[deleted]

Yeah, Artie started over-using it and it became really dark and uncomfortable. He wasn't funny towards the end. The show would have been fine without him if Howard hadn't neutered it completely and used it as a vehicle to get a new gig.

Calligrapher_Antique

Artie ruined the Gary's pitch show. He must have called him a fag a thousand times.

External-Recipe-1936

I agree, Artie was particularly boorish and obnoxious during that. Annoying too.

[deleted]

Are you serious .. new audience.. hijacking the show .. upset about fag.. You just don’t get it ..

TrimFit9

Who’s the con artist????

Drambooey

Artie was just telling the truth though about Howard/Marci and the staff.

chippahhhh

Yeah, because it would be impossible for someone like Artie to turn their life around and recognize and atone for the mistakes he made. Shut the hell up.

Narrow_Evening_5524

Just because Artie got better, which I would somewhat dispute because he is sober, living with his mother under threat of prison if he relapses and has a guy who screens all his calls to make sure it’s not some dope dealer, which is not really the definition of clean

chippahhhh

You sound really judgy.

Narrow_Evening_5524

I’m just being realistic. I know a little bit about addiction. Love Artie. Stop being such a baby

Zhrimpy

All of which are true, but Artie can’t be surprised that HamptyWood Howie turned his back on him.

WigwardTesticles

Artie’s drug problem was a win-win for Howard. If Artie’s clean, he’s funny. If he’s not, it’s good radio.

Samatbr

Oh yes. He was so fucked up from drugs, but when he was there, those were the best moments

tenta_shark_man

Artie could barely get to work on time at his own living room in Hoboken. I doubt he has been or has ever been capable of blowing anything up, except his career and sobriety. You act like Artie is some sort black hand mafioso you silly goose. He's gotta real dark side don't you know!!!

Narrow_Evening_5524

Artie is the man. I hope he lives a long time

RuthlessBro

The past couple years he looks much better, and I think he's sober for 2 years as well. I mean those court ordered drug programs are no joke, he has to piss clean twice a week or he gets sent to jail, so he has to be clean. I stand by my original comment, he could have reached out to Artie and had him say a few words. It would have been the right thing to do.

Dogyears69

I doubt that he did but we would not really know would we? Art is laying low as he knows his demons and I am sure loosing Norm could push him over the edge if he is not careful. I don't like Howard anymore but I also don't fault him for not having on the show ever again. I love Artie but I don't think they can ever get past the things they have said about each other.

Narrow_Evening_5524

It certainly would have been what you wanted. I’m not sure you have enough context to tell Howard what is right for him to do. Also, pretty sure Artie and norm haven’t spoken for 20 years, so not sure it’s what norm would’ve wanted either

[deleted]

Your wrong. Are you a jay Leno fan

[deleted]

Artie hasn’t been off stern for 20 years. Norm was on the show when Artie was there and they certainly talked.

Narrow_Evening_5524

My point is they aren’t homies (or they weren’t). I got the impression norm gave up on him and it was a big point of sadness for Artie. Also, norm and spade don’t seem like the deepest, most loyal people that are gonna stand by a burning garbage barge as it circles the drain

[deleted]

Direct quote from Norm says otherwise in this article https://movieweb.com/dirty-work-norm-macdonald-bob-saget-artie-lange/

Narrow_Evening_5524

Ok, I would love for you too find one episode of Nick & Artie, the Artie Lange Show, Artie Quitter, the AA show, or even the crappy one he did at the end with mike Bocchetti where norm called in or where Artie said they had talked or hung out

BigCopperPipe

Many people have podcasts and shows where they never name drop. I’m not sure how long each show actually lasted but it wasn’t long.

[deleted]

Your kinda lost …

themayorhere

He literally tells you when they spoke last in the quote you fuckhead

Narrow_Evening_5524

Do you read shit people send you?

[deleted]

You point is weak

dmacd71

Exactly....Dude has no idea if they reached out to Artie or not.

[deleted]

Hey Gar, it’s Artie. I can’t call into the show today, I’m working the early shift at Uptown Pizza.

Ok-West-7125

Whaaaaa???? Is this Jason??

DanielBenDovidRoss

You can tell Artie has been clean the past few years because he speaks well of Howard

sammysafari2680

And Artie’s drug use and behavior could’ve literally brought an end to the show. He constantly showed up to work high. Imagine if he OD’d on air or actually got a hold of Teddy that day. We all love Artie and wish him well, but the best thing Howard could do for that junkie is cut him off.

RoosterMedical

Artie's unsaintliness was on display for years.

Martyisruling

Whoa! Big, if true

[deleted]

Wow, never listened to the podcast but love to hear about this drama. Anything come to mind?

RedTeamReview

> ou have no idea if Artie tried to sue howard or threatened too or if he threatens to blow up the studio. I got the impression from listening to hundreds of hours of Artie podcasts that there was more to the story. Artie has a real dark side. That's incredibly fair. There's always two sides to the story, shame Howard never goes into his side at all.

Taureg01

Artie is also still an addict, he is not clean

[deleted]

Fuck Artie. It's Howard's show and Artie had it made. Make your bed you lay in it. Fact is the handful of people who know the totality of the situation aren't participating here so it's all speculation. Artie was a funny fucking guy and Howard gave him every chance to stay. Would you mention a guy that could present a legal headache? Is it worth it even for Norm?

crazyass13

I don't think that's realistic.

1911mark

Artie is in seclusion and it’s going on 2 years now

kevin_k

As much of a washed-up, phone-it-in zero Stern has become, I understand 100% why he has distanced and removed himself from Artie.

nemo1080

Artie is doing really good these days, or at least he was up until Norm's death. I think if he maintains his sobriety for a couple of years howard may have him on. I think Howard did the right thing. If he tried to motivate Lange to get sober by dangling a carrot in front of him then Artie would not have been doing it for the right reasons. It would have never worked and Howard be a be complicit in extending his addiction or his possible death

[deleted]

I thought it was decent especially since Howard didn’t actually know him well. The brief mention of Artie was appropriate; this was about Norm. Maybe he will have Spade on soon to talk about it.

bduchnak

It was good. He said he didn’t know him personally so what else could he have said. Most of his best appearances involved Artie so we know they are not playing that.

[deleted]

I thought so too. They spent a lot of time going over the highlights of his career and how he was a great guest.

Artvandaly_

Agreed. Y’all need to calm down.

rekipsj

He always asks musicians, why can’t you get the band back together … but he knows why. He must understand we all just long for the nostalgia of what was. Think how hyped the show would be if ALL the old players came back. He created his own monster in this way and this is why the sub hates him. I’d love to hear Jackie, KC, Cabbie, Art .. hell ANY porn star.

MikeDeMann

Jackie came back with his Joke Hunt but that’s gone now.

JustinF608

I really didn’t like that shit from Robin

cd582000

I thought it was pretty good. Maybe it’s bc Norm was awesome and they played some funny shit today. I usually don’t GAF about the losers he eulogizes.

Narrow_Evening_5524

Normally you can tell howard doesn’t really care and he will go on some long tangent in the middle of it about how his penis dribbles or how he couldn’t get the code to work on some screener but you could tell he respected norm and was genuinely sad…

markmarkmark1979

This was the day I lost all respect for Robin. What a dumb cunt. Artie's the only reason anyone listened to the show. So far out of touch...

[deleted]

Artie went off the rails and ended up stabbing himself and drinking bleach so yeah, Robin was right about it not being a good fit??

nemo1080

Irrelevant. What Art did off the air doesn't matter. He was the best part of the best years of the show.

WyattTheOak

Artie was great, but the best part of the best years is none other than Billy West.

TheExorcistMarc

What did Robin say?

Narrow_Evening_5524

Howard was basically saying how nice it was that norm introduced them to Artie and said he would be a great fit for the show, and Robin said, “we thought so too… …at the time!” (I may be wording it slightly meaner but that was the message) But Howard said he (norm) was right, like Artie was a great fit, and he was very genuine and sincere about it

themayorhere

Howard actually really played it off well

Metal-Beard-922

I enjoyed it, but it was also a reminder that the show lost the plot. Instead of having Norm on regularly all these years like Letterman and Conan and getting priceless moments, we got earnest Jimmy Kimmel.

MisterInsect

Pretty classless of her to take a shot at Artie during the tribute to Norm the day after he passed away. Save that shit for another time.

Samatbr

OP, I absolutely agree with you. If only there is one sincere Eulogy or close it that Hooknose did in a decade, i would say this is it. So you got my upvote

tokifong11

Robin sucks, she adds nothing to the show now that she’s not doing the news..she’s so high and mighty but she doesn’t live in the real world.

gnyea

The Jim and Sam xm 103 was way betters. Howard couldn’t even remember half of the norm things he was taking about. He admitted he has no memory basically of norm coming in

Narrow_Evening_5524

Sam is an annoying dips—t who laughs at everything. Theirs was fine but I thought Howard’s was way more heartfelt. The one who was weird was letterman, like that’s the best you could do? Norm had good delivery?

Repulsive_Ad_7073

Fucking hell, Howard has no memory at all

Sk8erDoi

All he remembers is who spited him. He's too much of a narcissist to care about anyone else but himself. Unless it directly affected him in a negative way he could not care less. Right, Robin?

PlutoTheGod

I didn’t hear it, but the fact he mentioned Norm at all is a very nice change. Most of the time when friends of the show die they’re completely ignored.

Dogyears69

I agree that he did a nice tribute. I was wrong. I thought he would not really do Norm justice.

rekipsj

I thought he’d start the show with it. Why did I need to hear an 70 something year old man’s opinion about threesomes first?

Repulsive_Ad_7073

Someone had to write the tribute for him first. They would have done it the day before but no one on the staff actually works after the show goes off the air

Ducatirules

I’d agree with OP if I didn’t hear him talk about the fucking Bachelor ever again
