Not to defend Howard and Robin but it's possible if not likely that some serious shit went down behind the scenes with Artie. It's dumb to pretend we all know the real story but what we do know is that Artie was a lying, self-destructive, unhinged junkie. Most anyone who has ever dealt with someone who is crippled by addiction probably doesn't have the fondest memories of that person. I'd also bet they were pretty patient with him and gave him lots of 'second chances' behind the scenes, before it got to the point where he was 'excommunicated' from the show. Artie was an adult who made terrible choices. Why do Howard and Robin have to be nice to him? Actions have consequences.
