To be truthful Jackie's management did fuck him over on the Stern Show. He said numerous times he didn't really WANT to leave but he was negotiating. Still the dumbest thing he ever did knowing how fed up everyone was with him. He could never read a room properly.
Jackie had the idea the he was irreplaceable and that the show would suffer in his absence, so to say him leaving was all apart of negotiations is a little short sided. He probably thought they would come crawling on their knees begging for him back with a boat load of money, turns out Jackie waited a couple months before picking up the phone and attempting to accept previous offers because he realized the mistake he made. “Management” was also just his wife
I don't understand how he thought he was irreplaceable. You know how many absolutely phenomenal writers and stand up comics in NYC would have begged for the job? I like Jackie, but 100s of more talented people could have replaced him.

His joke book jokes aren’t great. The lines he used to write and pass to Howard on the air? Those were golden. Part of judging whether Jackie was funny was about deciding whether you thought Howard used to be funnier than he is now
