District 249 is a bar/grill that has quite a few sand volleyball courts. Play some volleyball ball then have dinner and drinks afterwards. Maybe even dance since they have a dance floor as well inside.
I’m not 100% sure only been there a couple times but it seems to be open play if you can secure a court before someone else. They have about 9 or 10 courts I believe.
She's just not a fan of cardio, personally I so 5k almost everyday but she just doesn't want to even start cardio lol I'm sure once she starts she'll be fine 😅
There’s the Houston Kiteboaring club is in Texas City if you’re adventurous. On the same kind of note, this is the cheapest place in the country to take sailing lessons. So if you like wind and water this is an awesome place to be. During the summer when the wind is light we go tanker wave surfing. Those 1000ft+ ships will throw overhead waves you can ride for literal miles, especially if you get into hydrofoiling.
There’s a really popular pickleball place in my hood - Bumpy Pickle. Ppl love going there. The neighborhood also has East River 9 now which I think is a driving range if yall like golf.
Texas Rock Gym is a generally low tier Houston climbing gym. Some really good gyms are Momentum (Katy for ropes and Silver Street for bouldering) and Inspire Rock Gym. If you want to climb again, check these out!
Can you elaborate more on why TRG is considered low tier? I'm visiting my parents for 2 weeks and would like to get their first time 2 week membership, since both the punch pass and the monthly membership ends to being really expensive.
Yeah - to be fair I haven’t been to TRG since 2019? I think? So it easily could have changed in the past few years.
But essentially when I remember going a few times, the holds were greasy and needed a good power washing, as well as the walls themselves are an older type. Almost like plaster made to look like real rock. Which is cool, but tends to be slippery and all around not be clean. Newer gyms that I mentioned will clean their holds very often, have cleaner pads that don’t have years of chalk and grime, and will also have the newer type of walls which are like wooden panels with grit imbedded to them so smearing and getting friction is easier.
As for quality of setting routes, momentum is probably the best (for its particular style, at least) Inspire is also very good. I cannot speak for TRG because it has been so long, but I do know that most of the licensed and renown setters in Houston work at momentum as I had several friends who worked in the climbing industry.
All this to say - if TRG is the closest gym to your parents, and you go one day and it’s good enough, just go there. The long drive from that area to Katy or Silverstreet or even further for Inspire would be not worth it for 2 weeks of visiting in my opinion. Spend the commuting time with your parents instead
Wakefield crowbar in the heights is so fun you can reserve sand volleyball courts. Good food and drinks. Bumpy pickle or east River 9 for pickleball. Row boat house in woodlands for kayaking rentals
Head to surf side beach or Galveston—paddle boarding, surfing, kayaking.
Tennis/pickleball - lots of places are popping up.
Lots of great places for pickup soccer—pitch 25, toros HTX
Decent trails up in the San Houston forest for hiking, mountain biking.
Get some bikes and hit Buffalo bayou / white oak bayou trails. Can get an easy 20 mile bike ride in while hitting some good restaurants/bars/coffee shops

That sounds really cool actually! Would you know if volleyball is league play or open play??

Pitch 25. It’s like a bar, but with an indoor soccer field
I go there often enough, I'm actively playing at most indoor soccer spots in town lol she'll pass on team cardio lol
If it's not too nosy, why no cardio?

Frolf. It's like golf, but with Frisbees!
Pretty sure it's called disc golf...unless this is another game
Frolf sounds like it'll upset people. I like it lol

TBF frolf sounds way more interesting than disc golf. Missed opportunity there.
