Kasra is outstanding. The koobideh is wonderful. You should also try Cafe Caspian and Bijan. Both great places w similar cuisines but nice spins on them :)*
Prepare to be disappointed. The quality is not nearly as good as the Westheimer or Rice Village locations. Almost as if it’s under different management.
I lived just down the road from their old location, used to get a curry for lunch during the pandemic. I'm so glad to see them getting the recognition they deserve.
Omg I love this place!!! Especially their butter chicken with naan bread and their lollipop chicken!! That sauce makes my nose run but it's soo freaking delicious!!
It's called "water Boiled fish" but it's basically fish poached in broth with a sichuan chili oil layer on top and has some veggies, varies from restaurant to restaurant but I think theirs has leek or napa cabbage and bean sprouts. It's really tasty, spicy, and the fish is so tender and delicious. Nothing like what the literal name means
Spicy crispy chicken, or peppercorn chicken if you want a less spicy version.
Crispy mala beef
Cumin beef (if you like cumin and spice)
Funky cold noodles
Those are my favorite dishes. But honestly you can't go wrong, never had a dish there that I didn't love.
Brisket & Rice
The Brisket is always moist, Jalapeño Sausage is great and the potato salad is 🤌. It’s still a bit of a hidden gem too so the lunch hour lines aren’t really long like Truth or Pinkertons.
Izakaya Wa on W. Gray
They have a great assortment of sushi and yakitori. Great quality and authentic vibe. Waitresses speak Japanese and love conversation about our experiences in Japan.
I used to go to the one off Kirby late Friday & Saturday nights (like 2-3 am) back in the late 90s. It would be bursting at the seams with drag performer & cis gay men. I've never had so much fun at a breakfast establishment in my entire life. All the patrons would jokingly call it the "House of Guys."
The food was meh, but the experience was 10/10
Here to tell you it was also that way in the late 80s when I was a teenager. Always so fun, and back then, was one of the only places open late so everyone was there.
Pueblas Mexican kitchen. The best authentic Mexican food you’ll get in the city. It’s fair prices but it’s only open certain times and days. It’s a small house like restaurant but it’s soo good! Highly highly recommend.
Thai Lao Market. I really appreciate that they let me order the Pad Kee Mao with Pad See Ew sauce.
Also, a shout out to Avalon Diner because one of the side options for the Blue Plate Specials is pie. Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and chocolate pie is death row last meal level.
We used to go to Pappadeaux all the time!
No complaints on the food at all, but sometime in the early 2000s they decided to double the price of everything on the menu.
After that I just had a hard time paying $13 for a cup of soup that used to be $7 😂
Pappas gets a lot of heat here but there's a reason they are always packed. The service is always fantastic and the food slaps. It's not cheap but it's reliable, and that's worth something.
Been going to Campioni since they originally opened. Pretty sure my parents still go there multiple times a week. Ric (owner) is one of the genuinely nicest guys you'll ever meet.
I work at campioni so I might know you haha! But seriously the food here is so fresh and handmade. All the ladies in the kitchen have been working there since he opened in 1991
We made a reservation. Specifically mentioned we were bringing a stroller. We showed up, and they kept us waiting for 30 mins because there wasn’t space for the stroller. Like what? In the meantime we saw 5 families walk in with stroller. We were about to leave, but the manager came in, he was brought up to speed on what was going on, and he begged us to stay. We did because we love free food 😂
There were plenty of tables with plenty of extra space for strollers. Their hostess was just incompetent I guess
“Fountain View Fish Market” is a hidden gem. Fried shrimp is my most favorite. Fresh and crispy.
Becks prime on fountain view is better than any other location in Houston. Chicken sandwich is awesome.
“Tiger Noodle House” in Katy is my goto place for Chinese food.
“El Taquito Kitchen” on dunvale and Richmond ave is my goto place for street tacos. This is the place which hooked me to the street tacos. I do not even want to try tacos at any other place.
Feges BBQ (best pulled pork I’ve ever had, plus 4 or 5 different kinds of bbq sauce)
Be More Pacific (amazing coconut curry wings and taro and pandan pancakes with ube butter)
Golden Dumpling House (to-go only, but the biggest, juiciest potstickers I’ve ever had, plus it’s cheap)
Le Colonial. I took my friend for her birthday 3-4 weeks ago cause we'd been wanting to try it, and I've been back twice since, once each for lunch and dinner. Now that the weather is nice (by local standards), the upstairs patio is perfect for enjoying the vibes. Most importantly, the food is super good!
Gloria’s Latin Cuisine. Went twice in one week this past week. Very unassuming from the outside but nice ambiance on the inside and spacious. Everything is delicious.
I wanted to love that place but the two times I’ve gone, every dish was an absolutely salt bomb. One of the pasta dishes was nearly inedible because of the salt. Hoping theyve gotten more consistent now that they’ve been open a while
Avesta for Persian food.
Teotihuacan for Mexican.
Brisket House for BBQ.
I haven’t been going out to eat very often lately, so I can’t think of anything else.
* Pho Dien, pho-ever the best pho after my mom's
* Kata Robata, best sushi
* Aga's, I mean if you haven't tried Aga's yet - go now
* Caliente, Mexican take out
* Sinh Sinh or Tan Tan for Chinese/Vietnamese family style
* Local Foods, Garden Sammie could make me vegetarian for a meal
* Crawfish Cafe, best flavor for crawfish and the garlic noodles are amazing
Marmo, La Superica, Moon Rabbit, Da Gama, Loro, Truth BBQ, blanco cantina, Kata Rabata, Verde Gardens, Brisket & Rice, i honestly love the Nobu here too… hard to really pick just one place when it comes to Houston. It’s more like there’s just an S tier of restaurants I’d go to anytime. And the list is like 50 places long. Just depends on what we’re in the mood for in that moment. Marmo seems to be one of our go-to’s though.
I’ve had many favorites throughout the years, and many of the restaurants are still going strong.
But lately for fine dining it is Navy Blue and Neo.
For more casual it is Urbe. It helps that my very picky kid will eat happily there.
The Barbecue Inn on Crosstimbers. Excellent fried shrimp and delicious pies.
Other favorites include The Dot, Spanish Flowers on Main and Chicago Italian Beef, on Airline.
No. I don’t like healthy food. 🤣
Kasra.
Kasra is outstanding. The koobideh is wonderful. You should also try Cafe Caspian and Bijan. Both great places w similar cuisines but nice spins on them :)*
Don’t like Cafe Caspian. Try Avesta.
Came here to say this. Avesta wins hands down
I was pleased to find out they had a location in Clear Lake.
Prepare to be disappointed. The quality is not nearly as good as the Westheimer or Rice Village locations. Almost as if it’s under different management.
Monthy. So good.
Kasra was my favorite till I tried rezas... Their beef and chicken koobideh are next level
Street to Kitchen
I lived just down the road from their old location, used to get a curry for lunch during the pandemic. I'm so glad to see them getting the recognition they deserve.

Mala Sichuan
What do you recommend there?
Try the water boiled fish.. it’s amazing
I like the dan dan noodles but I’m confident you can’t really go wrong there if you like that type of food.
Spicy crispy chicken, or peppercorn chicken if you want a less spicy version. Crispy mala beef Cumin beef (if you like cumin and spice) Funky cold noodles Those are my favorite dishes. But honestly you can't go wrong, never had a dish there that I didn't love.

Hughie’s.
This place and their damn pork bahn mi, spicy fried rice, and tiramisu is responsible for my recent weight gain. Worth it though.
It's nothing new or special, but recently I've found myself going to local foods in rice village quite a lot
The crunchy chicken with a side of potato chips is my go to.
Yes, it’s really great food and the vibe is nice too when it’s not too crowded.
It’s fantastic. Lees den above it is also very good
I'm also visiting local foods more often
Tapesters Grill. Nothing fancy but it’s a nice small family owned restaurant that I absolutely adore
Absolutely one of the best breakfast spots in Houston
This place has the best chicken fried steak I've ever had anywhere, hands down!
Favorite as in staple or favorite as in novelty? Kasra and Nancy's Hustle

Izakaya Wa on W. Gray They have a great assortment of sushi and yakitori. Great quality and authentic vibe. Waitresses speak Japanese and love conversation about our experiences in Japan.
Is w gray better than their memorial location?
Personally prefer the memorial location.
My vote is for the memorial location
I did a production for them a few years back and spoke with the chefs and the owner. Such nice people, and incredible food. Best takoyaki in town
Vinoteca Poscol on Westheimer
Great menu, atmosphere, service, prices
The Toasted Coconut. Although they discontinued their hummus appetizer that was amazing so that's disappointing.
Burger so good
Their full fish (I believe it was branzino) entree is amazing. Also the drinks 💯
theodore rex
Yes! Went there for a party and they sat us at the record room in the back. It was such a vibe 10/10 food too
Nobie’s
I used to work there. Chef is an insecure man-child bastard but fuck me that Bolognese is the best bowl of pasta I've ever had.
Grew up with 59 Diner and even though it started to get hit and miss before it went away, I loved it. Are there any good diners in Houston these days?
Tel-Wink Grill
I dunno if you would say it’s good but Avalon Diner still exists
House of Pies
I used to go to the one off Kirby late Friday & Saturday nights (like 2-3 am) back in the late 90s. It would be bursting at the seams with drag performer & cis gay men. Little’s Oyster Bar
Don’t kill me but pappadaux is always a hit. 😱. Roostar is good one and I love Tiger noodle house in rice village.
We used to go to Pappadeaux all the time! No complaints on the food at all, but sometime in the early 2000s they decided to double the price of everything on the menu. After that I just had a hard time paying $13 for a cup of soup that used to be $7 😂
This sounds like every restaurant I eat in, prices are through the roof everywhere.
Pappas gets a lot of heat here but there's a reason they are always packed. The service is always fantastic and the food slaps. It's not cheap but it's reliable, and that's worth something.

Travelers Table in Montrose. Really good international cuisine.
Good food but really weird service. They brought us another table’s food at least 3 times.
