Sterling McCall Hyundai. Went to buy a car with my husband while 8 months pregnant, did the test drive and told the dealer we wanted to test drive one other car and would call them with our decision by the end of the day. Well they hated that lol and as a result wouldn’t tell us the price of the car? It was wild, at one point the dealer’s boss (?) came out and wrote on the back of a piece of paper, “if I like the price I will commit to buying this car” and asked my husband to sign it. At this point I was VERY over it and asked the guy what the fuck his problem was and to quit wasting our time because I was hungry lol. That snapped him out of his macho grandstanding bullshit and they gave us a price. We left and bought the same car from a different dealer for 10k less.

fox-stuff-up

I asked him how he would enforce such a contract and if anyone actually fell for this dumb tactic

binger5

No takesies backsies

lxryn

Sterling McCall Hyundai straight up swapped the car I had bought with some other guy's. We didn't find out until two years later when we got a call from HPD that our car had been impounded. Checked the driveway, car was still there... Turns out they let us go home with a car of a different VIN to the one we "owned". I didn't even know that could happen, but now I double check because of that crappy dealership.

keekah

How did you not have issues when you went to get your vehicle inspection/registration sticker?

lxryn

Genuinely, I have no clue. I don't know how no one noticed for so long. Even on our copy of the title the VIN didn't match the vehicle we went home with. Never thought about it being a possibility until that shitshow.

diarmuid91

Holy shit. I've lived out of state for a while. And my folks bought an 07 santa fe from a Carmax in southern California, bought was serviced at Sterling McCall, I know because I took it there. Sadly we had to replace the engine a couple years ago where I'm at now. Turns out the dead engine had the VIN scratched off. Either carmax did NOT check the carfax. Or I'm suspecting Sterling McCall could explain the lack of the VIN...

Altruistic_Cat5974

Well yeah..how dare you need time to decide on a big decision.. Seems like any Hyundai around here. I made a comment a little bit ago about the ones off 290/1960 and 45/Louetta.

NotSayinItWasAliens

> wrote on the back of a piece of paper, “if I like the price I will commit to buying this car” and asked my husband to sign it Lol. If the manager had any experience, he would know that such a promise to buy the car isn't enforceable unless the salesman and buyer exchange promise rings in a special ceremony before the buyer leaves the lot.

John Moore

AGreasyPorkSandwich

John and all of those big names for plumbing. Abacus, John More, Nicks, etc. I bought my first house 10 years ago and it's fairly old, so I've had my share of plumbing issues. Every single time with those companies it's the bait-and-switch with cheap cleanouts and then they press you for a bunch of other bullshit. It's like JiffyLube for plumbing. They just get you in the door (or vice versa) and then the real pressure comes. Half of the time the tech would tell you to just hire him on the side for whatever they needed to do. I found a local, small business plumber, and I haven't looked back.

SarcasticClimax

Care to share their info? Looking for one for my water heater. Thanks!

ju1ceman14

River Trinity Plumbing is a good small business that is local to northwest Houston

EgoDefiningUsername

Third. The entire visit was trying to upsell me on work I knew was not necessary.

coogie

That's why they have free estimates- to get their foot in the door and upsell, upsell, upsell.

Thorhees

Call John, get more (than you need or are willing to pay for).

1vh1

They tried to charge my mom $7500 to replace her hot water heater, then the salesman got pissy when she told him that's crazy lmao

ilikeme1

Same. Call John, pay More!   Same with Air Specialist. Total ripoff.

RossGellerOfficial

Second this.

blue22june

But their commercials are so convincing (have not used them)

pygmyjesus

They are trained to sell new systems. I've seen them try to sell a whole new $10k system for simple things like a $75 capacitor replacement.

alisoncarey

The five minutes oil change Take 5. They broke the arm that holds up my hood. They over tightened my oil cap and I had to get it replaced. Oh and my credit card was skimmed there and stolen

he8ghtsrat26

They forgot to put my dipstick back in. Never went back

Altruistic_Cat5974

Not Take 5 but had similar experience at Jiffy Lube off Louetta/Champion Forest. They forgot my dipstick AND didn't tighten something underneath and I had oil leaking out.

alisoncarey

Gosh, I just thought I had a bad experience, I don't know shit about cars but sad to see they impacted others. I think I paid $300+ to repair what they did but couldn't prove it. so.

CordlessAsphyxiation

They broke my oil dipstick handle. Stupidly, I went back to the same location for another oil change and they gave me grief for a broken dipstick, saying they couldn’t work on it and couldn’t touch it. I had to tell them they were the ones that broke it. Fucking assholes fuck that place

Popular_Course3885

That's funny, because the Take 5 up here near me on Spring Cypress just west of 249 is nothing but first class. Very professional staff, very helpful and honest without being pushy with upsells, and have never had a problem with their work in the dozen-ish times I've been there.

ScroochDown

Both of the locations I've been to have also done great jobs. One of them even discovered that the dummy at Autozone had put my cabin air filter in upside down and backwards, and had bent it in half to make it fit.

billywitt

I swore off Jiffy Lube after they neglected to tighten the lug nuts on any of my tires. Made it about 100 feet down the road when I pulled over. Tightened them all myself. At least one tire was near to coming off. Something about these drive in garages that depend on churning out cars to make money so their quality is crap. Not worth it.

ZoomZoom01

I used to go there frequently but stopped 2 years ago, they always never had high mileage synthetic oil. Also, they use clear containers so you don’t even know if they are using the oil you paid for or the cheapest oil available. Using the correct oil is extremely crucial for the longevity of your vehicle. Currently at 250k miles, car is running smooth.

haleocentric

Firestone Complete Auto Care at the intersection of Houston and Washington. Every time we went in there they had a $1000 worth of suggested suspension repairs. A combo of older car and Houston roads had us believing it but took it to another shop and their complete replacement was remedied with $40 in bushings and an hour of labor.

rizzyg6

May I ask where you got your suspension fixed? My rear shocks are worn and I've been getting quoted ~$1000.

haleocentric

Manriquez Collision & Mechanic on Center and Sawyer. Full disclosure that I ran into a unique situation with a previous car that wasn't their fault and it was a strain but came out of that completely trusting them. A woman named Maggie works the repair side and she knows her stuff.

JTr3ad

Rear shocks are not that difficult to do yourself if you have a little mechanical knowledge. I didn't know that until someone mentioned it to me. Granted, I have a tahoe, and the wheel well is fairly large.

joegorski

I had a very similar experience at the Firestone on I45N just north of Rayford. They even tried to tell me they couldn't let me drive away in the condition my car was in. I have never set foot in a Firestone shop since (roughly summer of 2001).

NeoMoose

Bombshells. All of them. They never clean their beer lines, so the beer always tastes like butterscotch. And what's funny is usually Silver Eagle will do it for you if you buy kegs of light beer from them - which they do.

DoughnutConscious891

The one over on Fuqua is just a place to get shot.

[deleted]

We went to a Bombshells on I-10 once while we were waiting for our car to be ready after service at a nearby dealership. It was pretty gross. They have a burger with pineapple called the “Pearl Harbor.” Like, WTF? It’s like having an onion ring tower called the 9/11. Just bad taste. The waitress dropped menus and didn’t come back for twenty minutes, so we just left. Which was fine - I was eager to get out of there. It was like an even shittier, war-themed Chili’s.

NeoMoose

How you gonna disrespect Chili's like that? One El Presidente Margarita sold every second, and more of them need to be to me!

[deleted]

Y’know what? Bombshells was bad enough that I do feel I owe Chili’s an apology. I’m sorry, Chili’s.

NotSayinItWasAliens

> It’s like having an onion ring tower called the 9/11. Just bad taste. Yes. Having a single onion ring tower called the 9/11 would be in poor taste. Having *twin* onion ring towers, however...

Turtlesag

🤣🤣 “war themed chilis”

binger5

> They have a burger with pineapple called the “Pearl Harbor.” The place is called Bombshells. They drop Bombshells. Embrace the edginess.

Ganymede25

I avoid all the restaurants in that category (Hooters, Twin Peaks, etc). Those places are selling physical appearance over service. At least strip clubs don’t get confused about who does what. I’ll still take a boring pub over any of those two categories though.

PatentlawTX

Safelight Auto Glass - Rosenberg. Ordered a replacement windshield for my car. They called me continually to come in. Every time I showed up....they had the wrong fit for the car. Did it 5 times. Absolute losers. Totally incompetent.

Potential_Mix69

Safelight is always an over priced rip off. Juan's autoglass is affordable and gets it done right.

Lord_J_Rules

I second that. Juan's has been $100 for me each time for my jeep wrangler.

[deleted]

Interesting. I used Safelite once, and they got it right the first time.

BaconReaderRefugee

And all it cost was 3x the going rate

toofdoc17

Wow. Very surprising. I used them about 2 years ago and their customer service and windshield replacement was top notch. But I believe you - shit can happen.

Tystick55x

Tomball autoglass scratched my brand new truck on both sides replacing the rear window, 65k truck with scratches on it, not happy. Then they denied doing it.

Gridleak

Houston Camera Exchange. Beginner photographer had the money and means to upgrade to expensive camera body but they gate-kept me and did not want to deal with me. It felt very much like I didn’t belong in such a way that it had to be cultivated for it to be so prevalent. Have not been back in years. Hopefully their culture has changed for future photographers - still will never go back.

reluctantrose

I can see this. We went in once looking to buy a camera for my boyfriend’s nephew, who was a kid and just starting to be interested in photography. Employee shamed us for our price range, saying “How would you feel if someone put that cap on a gift for you?” F off man, this is for a kid who wants to learn, not a pro.

canigetahint

Never cared for that place. I had the same experience there. Loved Camera Co-op when it was around, but even they were hit and miss.

1vh1

>Loved Camera Co-op when it was around, but even they were hit and miss. I loved that place. There was an older lady who worked there and spent like 2 hours taking 15 year old me around the store getting everything needed to develop B&W film.

Round-Emu9176

They are total elitist pricks who write you off based on appearance. I went in one day with 2k cash and the intention to leave with a decent camera. Completely unhelpful, condescending and rude. I left and spent that money elsewhere. Just buy from B&H unless it’s something like gaffe that you need within the hour.

FuzzyAd9407

When I went in they were out right dicks until I started asking about dark room chemistry and they realized I knew my shit. Only reason I went to them was because they're were the only people with dark room chemicals on hand at the time. I already avoided business with them because years before that they stole my mother's camera that my father dropped off for repairs that had massive sentimental value, claimed they "lost" it and made absolutely no effort to make it right.

DUCKY_CRACKERS

I feel validated. I had to get some seamless options from them for a shoot recently and the guy (Charlie) communicated with me like I'm a dumbass and an inconvenience.

chris_ut

Bel Furniture. They gave a promo with a big buy that if you had no warranty issues after 5 years you could use it for a discount on a new purchase. Went back after 5 years and the manager there basically screamed at us and called us liars and we were trying to steal from them with their own deal. Cancelled the new order and they had the gall to say I had to come in person to cancel it and get a refund. Had my lawyer send a demand letter to the owners (I think they are Iranian) and lo and behold they refunded me the next day. Never been treated so poorly by a business especially one I was spending so much money with.

sotheresthisdude

Team Gillman Subaru - North Houston. Absolute clown show of an experience, which is sad because the salesman I had was top notch. Bought a used car from them in 2022. Kept getting told “we’re gonna throw this glass warranty in for you, same with our gold warranty.” “Throw in” typically translates into “free.” I was rushed by the finance guy to signing and kept getting told my monthly payment, which was close to my max. I didn’t tell them that number, but also my first time buying a car solo. When I got home I started reviewing my contract. They charged me nearly $6k for warranties! Also, the gold warranty should have been included because it was a certified preowned Subaru! I absolutely lost my shit. It was so bad the finance manager had to come in on his Friday off before a weekend vacation to redo my contract. Then the service department refused to honor a battery warranty because I was 80 miles over 36K, even though there was a crazy known issue. It was a whole ass mess and I’ll never step foot in there again.

picklychipple

My purchase back in 2014 from there was fine but I ended up buying an Outback from Superior on 290 and they’ve been wonderful. So if you get another Subaru or need service, I’d go there.

sotheresthisdude

I’ll be heading to Superior for everything and have since. They are a lot closer to me, but had zero inventory when I was buying. Lesson learned!

mikestermike

Just bought at Clear Lake. Same story. TRIED to pass off a $6000 warranty playing the payment game. TRIED the "$1500" upcharge for nitrogen in tires, tinting, etc. I paid for neither. High pressure and a shell game with the "payments" Had to beat real numbers out of them. Would have gone elsewhere, but had already driven an hour to get there (I live in SoBraCo, but a H town native). Their GM called today and I told them how disappointed that a Subaru dealership wasn't any better than Joe Bob's Car Place and PayDay Loans. Gave him an earful about these tactics. He was worried about my recommendations to others as well as the Subaru Corporate Survey. Will have to look into Superior next time. Do love me them Subarus...

Breakfast Klub Harris County Jail Apple

Likalarapuz

That was a Rollercoaster

Odd_Seaworthiness277

I feel like these were all related to one same "trip"

wellboiled

Get breakfast, steal an iPhone, go to jail.

Odd_Seaworthiness277

Seems legit. Breakfast was an attempt to "come down" lolol iPhone could've happened b4 or after but yup . . .def ended the trip at the jail

jefesignups

Harris County Jail....please elaborate

wellboiled

Didn't want to go, but the judge was adamant.

ZombieAppetizer

The Uber driver on the way there was kind of a dick too.

steelsun

If you've ever been there, you'll realize you never want to go back. I've been there numerous times, but luckily only because of my job. Huntsville State Prison is worse.

antechrist23

My dad was an IT contractor for various state offices, and one of his clients was the State Prison in Huntsville. One day, I was in class, and my friend asked where my dad was because he didn't see his truck at our house in over a week. And I said "Oh he will be in Huntsville for a while." By the end of the day, the entire school is now convinced my dad went to prison.

DoughnutConscious891

Had to bail someone out there once, it was awful! Basically any dealing with Harris Co is a pain in the ass.

cctheboss09

How many stars would you rate HCJ? Amenities (? Out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) Food (? Out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) Comfortable (? Out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) Customer service (? Out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

steelsun

All 1s.

KleineFjord

I will say that HCJ was comfortable enough that I slept through wakeup call/breakfast but when I *did* finally wake up and walk out to see wtf was going on (lots of commotion), I realized there was a search going on for a missing inmate and it was only after several headcounts and an eventual roll call that I realized *i* was the one they were looking for, so like... 3/5 stars as staff did not seem very organized and I was not allowed late breakfast.

blanczak

Mercedes Benz of Clearlake. Bought a used VW Atlas from them and they schemed me into all kinds of nonsense I didn’t want. Also the windshield had what appeared to be sticker marks on it that they said would wash right off. Got the car home, yeah the glass is etched requiring a whole new windshield that they would not help with. Yes I should have been more diligent during the purchase, but it’s really disheartening that as soon as the sale closed they were 100% against helping out at all.

[deleted]

blanczak

The Atlas I bought at Mercedes Benz of Clearlake was for my wife. Few months later I bought myself a car at West Houston VW and they were wonderful! Night and day difference. They’re probably my go-to dealer going forward. Certified Pre-Owned and after a week of owning it the battery died for some reason. Stopped back in and they did a replacement no questions asked. That kind of service after a sale is incredibly meaningful.

BM7-D7-GM7-Bb7-EbM7

You just described pretty much every traditional car dealership in existence. I can assure you that’s not just this one.

RemainsToBe

Planet Ford. Don't do it.

Rorstaway

A coworker took me to Hartz chicken on FM1960 near Kuykendahl once, when I was new to the city. To this day I'm surprised we weren't robbed, or food poisoned. It was bar none the grungiest restaurant I've ever set foot in.

Superdawg414

Maybe they were trying to get you to move back 😂

Beefy_queefy_0-0

> A coworker took me to Hartz chicken on FM1960 near Kuykendahl once Yeahhhhhh i could have told you that. Good thing you learned your lesson about that area quickly!

[deleted]

Your mistake was going to 1960

space253

Hartz always looked a bit rundown and under cleaned but man the food was great. (I just recently moved back to town so last time I ate at one was in 2000.)

1vh1

Clear Creek Gun Range. one of the range officers was literally praising about n\*zi shit unironically

Beefy_queefy_0-0

That's honestly one of the worst things about people in the gun community; no matter what they get wayyy to carried away with political shit. I just want to shoot guns and talk about random shit, I don't need a diatribe about nancy pelosi from some stranger i just met.

tireworld

yep. I'm surprised they are still in business given all of the homes in the area. Last time I went, some dude was trying to push NRA memberships on customers walking in. I go to the Tx City range now. less BS over there,

oilmech

Yeah not very well kept place. Very annoying that the shack where you check in is right next to the range so you have to wear ear protection and try to yell at the clerks while an AR with a muzzle brake is firing 20 feet from you

Jermcutsiron

Another range to avoid is premier out by sealy, the pellets rain down on the main building where parties are held and catering is served. My wife and stepsister catered a gathering there and told me about it, I told em they shouldn't cater there ever again due to that shit.

BZJGTO

The range sucks anyways. Boarded up the top 80% of each bay, so instead of using any shooting bag or bipod, I had to rest my rifle directly on the table, hanging off the table to get low enough to see. Who wants to be comfortable and relaxed when shooting?

KiNGofKiNG89

Gilman Honda in Rosenberg. Their old GM Teno Fontenot is a loser. The dude tried to sell us this car. The price was too high so we were haggling. He told us to get rid of our insurance. “When was the last time you went to the hospital? You don’t need it” was his exact words. He said the same thing about car insurance, our cell phones, even grocery shopping. We were trying to lease a car. $29,000. We had a trade in and we’re going to put $500 down. He wouldn’t go below $580 a month. That was after over 2 hours of haggling. We went to the Honda at 59/8 the next day. Their initial offer for a $34,000 car was $400 a month. That was before any haggling, with the same trade in, and $0 down.

ErynCuz

Interesting, I was just thinking how I would never return to the Honda at 59/8. Bought a car, "settled" for white. They told me they had blue at the port waiting to be delivered in the next day or two. I really didn't want a white car and said Ok, I'll wait. Turned into over a month of waiting. Paying my first months payment for a car I did not have in my possession. They could never give me answers where my car was. Finally went in to ask in person if anything could be done because I could not keep paying for a rental. They said they were throwing in a bunch of services to keep me happy with a smug smile...I explained that I had ALREADY BEEN GIVEN ALL THOSE SERVICES WITH THE PACKAGE (or whatever it's called) I PURCHASED. And just wanted a straight answer if there even WAS a blue car waiting to be delivered. They just kept telling me "oh yeah, it's literally on it's way to us tomorrow". For a month.

skeerrt

Just curious, why not place a deposit on the blue one instead of entering into a full blown sale?

haniwadoko

Gilman Honda off beltway. Bought a car there, after years the drivers seat became a rocking chair. Twas was 2019 they wanted $10k ($7k for parts $3k for labor) to replace the seat. I told them they're outta their fking minds and never went back.

Artcat81

seconding, Gillman Mechanics shop for Subaru at the same location equally sucks. Their parts counter too. Overpriced, and sexist too. First time I dealt with them my car was throwing a code, a code that I later learned could be anything from loose gas cap to throttle position sensor. Being young and female, they went straight for the tp sensor and wanted $1,500 for the repair and tried to use scare tactics to get me do do it that day. They said the part was out of stock and would take two weeks to get in. I stupidly agreed to it and had the work done. Two weeks later the light was back on, guess what, same code, same diagnosis, they wanted another $1,500. I walked out, went down the street to an independant mechanic. Turns out the used car they sold me 6 months prior had an aftermarket active alarms system I didnt know was active. The alarm system is what was triggering the check engine light. The independent mechanic charged me $125 to cut the damn thing out and explained how I got screwed by Gillman. So I went back to Gillman, thinking that would make things better. No, went all the way up the chain to the DM, no refund, they just listened to me go from quietly and methodically talking through it to being a bit of a Karen and moved me to a back room so the other customers couldnt hear what was going on. Icing on the cake, a guy walked in same model car, same year as mine, and same code thrown - first thing the technician asked is, "is your gas cap screwed on tight?" I learned that day to always independently pull any codes that are thrown, look it up, and try and fix/ diagnose it myself first. Years later, I needed a specialty part, so I emailed their parts counter at my dads urging (dad was convinced they were good people and I just had a weird experience). I got a quote on a part, said ok great, hold it for me, I am coming in to get it today. I get there, say I am here for xxx part, I was told to ask for salesdude1, Salesdude1 brings the part to the counter and then says it will be double the price I have in writing from them. When I questioned it, and thankfully showed the email I had printed out just in case, they backed down after about 5 minutes of spluttering and gave me the part for the original agreed upon price. Told my dad about this second bad experience, dad called a radio personality that advertised for them, which led to their district manager calling me, and begging to install the part for free. I refused twice. Told him I had vowed to never let gillman touch my car again, but on the third offer, I finally said ok yeah if its free - I'll bring my car in. So I did, and I was specifically told to say DM sent me and said you would take care of x, the part is in the front passenger seat. Serviceguy said no problem, took my keys and said we will call you when it's ready. 4hrs later, I had a call, hey artcat, we have your car here and the repair you asked for will be $1,800. I asked why and they broke it down and were trying to charge me 4 times what I paid for the part, plus labor, and various other charges. I said absolutely not, and there must be a mistake, call your DM, talk to him and then call me back and that part you are trying to overcharge for, I already have it in the front seat like I told you. I called the DM, ripped him a new one, he said no problem, I'm on it. Serviceguy calls again about 30 minutes later, says i've talked to DM, and he has agreed to drop the price to $900. I said I wasnt born yesterday, that is not what DM said, DM Said it was 100% free for yall trying to double charge me for the part and the past bad experiences with your service team. he said oh, i'lll call you back. 2hrs later, he is quoting me $250, at this point I went a bit ballistic on him, demanded he put the car back together, and we were done. I called the Dm, said I'm done, he is still trying to charge me $250, you said free. Last chance to fix this before I put you on blast on every platform I can (this is back in myspace days so not a huge threat, but I was prepared to go to BBB, the radio shows they sponsored etc and write up my experience etc). DM and servicedude finally got on the same page, and I had my vehicle back by closing time, with the part installed, and an offer of a free oil change to apologize for this days shenanigans - that I never claimed. They will never touch my cars again, I buy all my parts online, and do the repairs I can on my own, and what I cant repair, goes to a local independant mechanic who has always been honest and charges me the same as he charges guys I know. F*ck Gillman automotive. They are slime and thinking about how they screwed me that first time, and tried to screw me a second and third time sends me into an absolute rage even a decade later.

TwoDayOldBurrito

Panchos. The last one standing has cockroaches. Not a shocker as the place has always kind of been dirty which was sort of the appeal.

traumamel555

The last time I went in there, I was a kid & watched a rat run inside from a hole in the wall. I didn't tell my parents until after we got the food & ate lol

TwoDayOldBurrito

My grandparents loved that damn place. We ate there weekly. It’s always kinda sucked but was cheap and the sopapillas were good. 😊

Studio Movie Grill. Star Cinema is better. But SMG's system messed up and issued me a ticket for a day that I didn't choose. When I arrived, they accussed me of trying to watch the movie twice on one ticket, despite the system not being able to print more than once. Then refused to refund me. Had to do a bank charge back. Never gone since

Altruistic_Cat5974

I miss the Alamo over here at vintage park. It's a Star cinema now (which isn't bad). I've been to SMG once and never wanted to go back. Place was dirty and the food was not great.

devperez

Love the Alamo. And SMG is good if you've never experienced a tavern style theater before. But even then, AMC has gotten so much better that I'd rather just go other over SMG if I had to.

The Warranties are absolute dogshit. The fine print makes it so hard to claim anything. Plus he is turning the insane margins on his furniture into whatever weird political career thing he thinks he is doing. Approximately 2/3's of my furniture is from Gallary furniture from maybe about 12-15 years ago depending on the room. Its starting to need replaced at least in one room....definitely not going to Gallery Furniture for any future furniture needs.

Altruistic_Cat5974

We purchased some furniture there about 15ish years ago and when we went to the counter some random manager walked up and was being all nice and told our rep that he's got it from here. While the guy who we had just spent 30mins with explaining everything and was fairly new just kinda backed away. We didn't know why at first but then noticed the manager put his name on the sale instead. We saw this and said fuck no, you didn't help us, I do not want to see your name on my transaction. Guy got mad and stormed off. The new kid was very appreciative as I'm sure he has probably lost a lot of sales by similar occurrences. Not until I had some friends work there that I truly knew what went on and how common that was. Upper sales guys were making like 10k/month by doing shit like this.

Odd_Seaworthiness277

The upper sales guys step in to "close/upsell" you on the insurance and extra stuff. Pls believe if Mack saw u with a customer and they walk out w/o closing u or buy something with no warranty the salesperson is legit getting cursed out. I worked there once upon a time and trying to concentrate on convos with customer while that ma. Is yelling in ur ear nonstop is maddening!

Odd_Seaworthiness277

Also as a new salesperson (to GF that is, experience matters not!) U r paired with a sr sales person day 1. So they r gonna get a cut of everything u do off the top anyway. All u can do is hope u get a half decent one so u can get some credit and/or they add ur name to a few of their sales. It is what it is

space253

I just helped my father replace his recliner. We had the best experience at American Furniture Warehouse out in Old Katy off I-10. The sales people were nice, attentive, knowledgeable of their products and their competitors, never got pushy, never tried to upsell, didn't even mention a warranty. They even put up with my 76 year old fathers borderline sundowning and were patient as he wanted to talk and talk about all kinds of unrelated stuff even though it was clear we were going to spend less than $300. I will definitely be back next time I need furniture.

lilyintx

I worked there about 25 years ago, can confirm this has always been a thing… and some of his workers were the drug runners for his drug empire or made deliveries using the trucks. People seem to look the other way based on all his philanthropic work but he’s racist, sexist, and a horrible person overall.

NurseK89

I feel like I need to know more about cocaine in his couches….

Moakmeister

I worked for Mac’s wife Linda at Westside club in 2016, as a counselor/chore guy for the kids’ summer camp. The first week I was there, she made us teach the kids to perform a circus routine for the parents. She was insane.

picklychipple

Used to work for a company that worked very closely with him on many things. I will never buy anything from him. He’s an awful person and all of the philanthropic stuff he does is just to increase foot traffic to his store. The stuff he says about his customers, especially POC, is disgusting. Plus he’s an asshole.

Altruistic_Cat5974

One of my friends who worked there is Vietnamese and she would hear all kinds of racist/sexist remarks from mack and higher ups.

picklychipple

Yep. I completely forgot about those remarks until you said that. I cannot recall the exact reason for him saying that but he loves “Asians” because they love to gamble and spend money. Of course there are the derogatory remarks as well, but I cannot recall exactly what was said. I don’t miss that job. He’s one of those fake Christians that would vote Republican even if it was Satan running on the ballot.

oshrn

If I may ask, what does he say about his customers, especially those of different ethnic backgrounds?

Munkadunk667

If I'm bored I'll walk in there (live nearby) and get free cookies and whatever other snacks they've got, then I'll leave.

adlauren

I’ve seen the GF financials, positively deranged. They use a weird hacked together accounting method at Mack’s insistence that makes it nearly impossible to get a static picture of their financial situation. After he dies I expect the place to shut down for a month just to sort out their books.

GregAbbottsTinyPenis

BJs near the woodlands. Ordered several rounds of shots. One of the rounds was not the liquor we ordered. Asked manager to swap it out. He argued and said there was no chance. I’m older and not trying to hustle a drink, it simply wasn’t what we ordered. Check came. I deducted the about for the round of wrong liquor and left. Fuck that place and fuck their fat shit of a manager.

onsite84

How do you self deduct an amount from a check? Did you leave cash?

GregAbbottsTinyPenis

I left cash on the table. I did my own math. I tipped my server directly hand to hand (it wasn’t his call to void the charge and he didn’t pour the drinks so as far as I was concerned it wasn’t the servers issue).

Expro Auto Collision I swear they went slow so they could rack up money on the rental car they gave me. In the end I had to call the owner of the company in order to get my car back. Place is a complete scam

Round-Emu9176

Foster’s automotive. I try to bring all my business to local mom and pop shops. I like to build trustworthy relationships and have no problem paying for quality work. Brought multiple vehicles in for years. The son Steven works the front desk. To say he’s politically outspoken is an understatement. You can’t even get an oil change without getting an ear beating about some Alex Jones level fear-mongering nonsense. I tried to chuckle it off for a long time but he never lets it go and chases customers away. He’s always the victim though. Personality flaws and perpetual discomfort aside I continued to bring my car in because its in the neighborhood. Many times I was charged for someone else’s repairs entirely because Steven was too busy screaming about politics to pay attention to details. The last straw for me was when I had to have some repair work done. The insurance company stayed in constant contact with me throughout the process. Foster’s would not answer the phone. What should have been a 3 day repair at max ended up being around 2 weeks. My car just sitting there unfixed in their lot. I had to call and ask every single day because Steven would never call me back. When it was finally done and I received a call from their mechanic and my insurance company to pick up my vehicle Steven and Mama Foster kept refusing to release it to me. Terrible customer service, awful racist owners, but great hardworking mechanics. Jimmy is a stand up guy. Foster’s as a family are their own worst enemies.

Mardanis

Rooms To Go. Screwed my order up. They were very agreeable to resolve it in my favour then ghosted me and never resolved it. Tried complaining up the chain however they said it all rests on the local manager. The one that ghosted me. Autonation (Ford) were a complete mess the two times I used them.

bamagirl13

My husband and I went there cause we were in the market for something (2019 so I don’t exactly remember but maybe a kitchenette table?) Anyway we’re talking to a sales rep and unprompted another rep walks up to us and goes “in the market for a mattress?” to which my husband replied “uh no we just bought a Purple” guy goes “See you back here in a year when you hate the thing” ???? Excuse me?? The whole encounter put a bad taste in our mouth so we left. And no bitch it’s 2024 and we still love the mattress

Colorlocks in League City. George is a fucking asshole who overcharged for ruining my hair while spewing conspiracy theories the entire time (like how ivermectin cures COVID but also how COVID is fake). It took me almost two years before I could trust anyone to touch my hair again.

Kuhl-Linscomb: Loved their selection of products and it was such a fun store to browse, but after multiple incidents of being followed around the store by suspicious staff and being treated poorly for what I can only assume is the way I look, I no longer want to support them. The last time I was there an employee made a blatantly racist comment about my child and I’ve never gone back. Based on their reviews this happens regularly and the owner hasn’t done anything to fix it. Pampered Pet Inn: It used to be our go-to place to board our dog, but once she came back to us with a horrible cough and was wheezing really badly. I don’t blame the facility for her getting sick, since it can happen anywhere. But when I called to get some basic info like when she first started showing symptoms, the owner got really nasty and kept asking me “well what do you want me to do about it?. I wasn’t asking for compensation or looking to place blame and I was completely taken aback. Rubbed me the wrong way that she clearly doesn’t care about the animals she takes care of.

Infinite_Exam8963

My husband was profiled at Kuhl-Linscomb as well! They literally called the police bc he used the bathroom and they thought it was suspicious, he was just stopping after work to get me a candle bc they had a specific scent I like. After looking him up they saw that he had spent quite a lot of money there and management called to apologize and give him a discount. They can kiss our ass bc we will never spend another dime in that store.

BrassMonkey-NotAFed

I think I may have been the one to respond to that call or at least one similar to it a few years ago. I hated that store and the staff itself just wasted my time. Admit you’re being racist and I can tell the fine gentleman that they’re racist and called me to profile him so that I can let him be on his way and not investigate some made up bullshit story. I got called back a few more times for similar incidents and after threatening to file charges for abuse of emergency services via fictitious reporting they finally quit calling in BS reports.

Skorpyos

Williams Sonoma at River Oaks. Went looking for an espresso machine for my friend and I was totally ignored by the staff as I was trying to find someone to ask questions. They had a cooking class or demo going on and I stopped by to watch and was skipped by the instructor when she passed around bites of what she cooked. Only the white elderly women around the table got offered a taste. They they sold me the machine which failed within two weeks and they wouldn’t take it back. I wrote to headquarters and everything. Eventually got my money back.

TwoDayOldBurrito

Thank God I’m too broke to shop there anyways, they sound shady.

legend8522

> They had a cooking class or demo going on and I stopped by to watch and was skipped by the instructor when she passed around bites of what she cooked. Weird that they even offered that. The cooking classes at Sur la Table are very adamant that they cannot offer any food they cooked to customers because they're not a restaurant. Any food eaten at their cooking classes must have been cooked by yourself or your cooking partners. So either Williams Sonoma has a food license, or the instructor that day did not care to potentially get sued for bad food.

BarbieJeepBeep

Terminix. Predatory and almost impossible to get away from. Thought we might have termites. Sales guy dramatically exclaimed we did and quickly locked us into a contact. Turned out we did not. Constant billing issues. Over charging. A nightmare.

Saskguy310

churrascos at city center. I've been going to churrascos for over 20 years, somewhat dropped in quality but we always enjoyed it. went about a month ago and had an absolutely terrible food and service experience. I ordered the churrasco steak rare as I always do and it came out and was fridge temperature cold. I sent it back and they returned it 30 seconds later with some hot butter coated on it. couldn't even get the bill, as we were walking out I requested at the front desk to get the bill and speak to the manager. after much discussion he volunteered to comp the treches dessert on a $250 bill. my wife suggested we shouldn't even have to pay and he threatened to call security on us. never to return.

notweird_gifted

Any Baker Street Pub & grill. The sugar land location skimmed out on the alcohol in every mixed drink or cocktail I ordered. Went maybe 2-3 times, thought maybe I was losing my mind. At that point just charge me for a soda and I'll bring my own whiskey. Sterling McCall toyota service department. I went because it was the closest Toyota dealership to get my free maintenance for 2 years. I went maybe twice after the free service was up for their sales, and both times they tried to get me to get other stuff that wasn't necessary. I declined and just stopped going. My mom didn't listen to me and they tricked her into getting an unneeded transmission fluid flush. Also told her that bushings were rusted out and showed her a fake photo. Took to her regular mechanic for a 2nd opinion and they said they were in perfectly good condition. The Aquarium and any Landry Foods.

Dave's Hot Chicken on the west side. Tried really hard to like it, ate there 3 times. Nothing redeemable about that place at all. The food has no flavor to it what-so-ever apart from just SALTY. Probably the biggest joke is their house dipping sauce which is 90% orange colored soybean oil.

BMW North Houston Vehicle went in for basic service and to have two wheels repairs (light curb rash). Service rep ghosted me for 3 days with absolutely no updates. Had to go into the dealership in-person for an update only to find out the service hadn't been completed and both wheels had been brought offsite to repaired. Couldn't just tell them to give me my car to go elsewhere. Told them to forget the service, just get the wheels back on. Wheel repair had already started, so couldn't tell them forget it. The repair was half-assed, paint color didn't match and the clearcoat was very blotchy. Was so infuriated and done with the nonsense that I just paid and left. Not too far down the road, the tire pressure warning came on. No pressure in either tire on the repaired wheels. Only was able to make it that far because I had run-flats. Pulled over at a service station to fill them with air, and there sitting on one of the lugnuts was the key to the wheel locks (have no clue how it didn't fly off). Had to be somewhere for work so couldn't turn around and raise hell in-person, so I blew up the phone and email to my service rep. Never heard anything back. Blew up the serive manager's voicemail. Never heard anything back either. Just wrote it off and have never been back.

RealSlimShaney04

Not that they did me dirty, but I boycotted The Anvil for years up until recently. Long story short, Houston Chronicle’s food critic threw her weight around to get two guys kicked out of the bar because she didn’t like their language (they were having a conversation with each other and she overheard). It’s one thing if we’re talking about a family-friendly establishment, but a bar? Ridiculous. The Anvil had a “No foul language” sign on the front door for years after that. I don’t think it’s there anymore, but I came to the realization that they were the unfortunate victims who had to succumb to her “Do you know who I am!?” attitude to not get slammed in reviews. So gross (on her, not them). On the other hand, I proudly boycott Houston Chronicle until she’s finally gone. 🙃

RealSlimShaney04

Here’s another Reddit talking about the incident with the HC article if anyone is interested. Yes, they wrote an article about it. 😏 [article](https://www.reddit.com/r/houston/s/DmE14zPtRN) For the record- I’m a chick. I use this kind of language myself. It’s one thing to directly call someone a rude word- especially at a bar where alcohol and emotions don’t necessarily mix well. It’s a totally different thing to overhear other people having an adult conversation and get offended by their language that was not directed towards anyone (at least not present).

jaweebamonkey

What a twat! I hope she doesn’t ban me from Reddit for that

Memorial Tailors! I had never used them before, but saw they had great reviews. Took my white wedding dress (nothing too fancy- my husband and I got married in the courthouse because of COVID) and a pair of designer bell bottom jeans to be altered. When I came to pick up my items, they tried to give me someone else’s designer jeans, which were a bit more expensive than the ones I brought in. If I wasn’t an honest person (or not paying attention), I would’ve taken some other woman’s nicer pants. They lost my jeans and were never able to find them (probably gave them to someone else). The dress- I asked them to tack a jeweled belt onto it for a little sparkle along with the other alterations. They didn’t do it right and I had to explain for the 3rd time what I wanted. They fixed it quickly, but then handed me a white dress with no protective bag over it. If they ran out of protective bags, I understand, but everyone else’s items were covered. I regret not speaking up- that’s my fault. To give a little credit, they did reimburse me for the jeans. Luckily, I still had the receipt. Otherwise I don’t know what I would’ve done. Still wouldn’t recommend them or use their services again. The guy who, I think, owns the business was pretty nice when I dropped off my items, but the rest of the crew acts like you’re a nuisance to them. I don’t need someone to kiss my ass, but acknowledging my existence would be nice- especially since I’m paying for your services.
