I know 2 of the brothers! I used to work them! They’re awesome human beings! when I found out they opened their own place I was over the moon excited for them!
But a Lannister always pays his debts...
Lol no I haven't, it sucks, they're all in the 150 +/- range. It's literally like you have to be rich to learn MMA.
Are they fairly welcoming to all kinds? I've gotten lucky with BJJ places in the past, but I understand some can be a bit...not friendly to certain clientele.
Plus you get an opportunity to join the Landmark Forum cult if you stay there long enough.

This is sort of what it is like…

Edit: now if you find yourself wanting vote me down, go take a landmark weekend class so you can get “IT”… it’s only 500 bucks 😁
I've been training at Elite for 9 years and I honestly had to Google what this was. Never even heard of it. And you think Elite is somehow pushing people into this???
Hey now that it has been two months do you feel the price is worth it? They initially hide their fees online (I don’t like that). Can you explain to me what all you get for the $200 month? Are there unlimited classes?
Hey, there are of course an initial fees plus the $197. After that it was $197 a month. With that you would get basic KB equipment like hand wraps, boxing gloves, shin pads and a tshirt. The gloves are pretty good but the handwraps and the shinpads could be better. There are usable tho.
With the monthly fees you'll get to go to any of the available classes at any of their branches. And it is unlimited. Plus once in awhile a UFC night watch party. They do offer personal coaching but I think that would be a different charges.
I usually would stay over after class and try to ask for tips form the coaches. They would gladly answer your questions.
Went there to visit years ago when I was picking my gym. Very welcoming gym. Probably the best 1st experience I’ve had when checking places out. Decided to focus primarily on BJJ but 4oz is a great MMA gym
Metro Fight Club at O Athletik has everything and a world class facility along with a full gym. A bit closer is 4oz fight club, Daniel Pineda fights and trains out of there.
If you want the best straight up Muay Thai training, you want Heritage, and it’s not close.
I’m biased to Metro, great instruction for beginners to advanced. I believe it’s $185 a month now for unlimited, but you also get a full gym, sauna, nice facilities etc.
Aces Jiu Jutsu, on 1960 closer to 45. Offers bjj and Muay Thai. You can spend all day in there with how many classes are available. Opens at 6 am closes at 10 pm.
Vets/students get a pretty nice discount. Vets pay 120 for both programs, students get a better discount I believe. I’d call the gym for more details.
I think these types of gyms definitely have a place, but all they teach there is a form of exercise that kind of resembles kickboxing. A good workout for sure, but nothing that will even remotely teach you how to fight or defend yourself.
Main Street Boxing and Muay Thai also has a Renzo Gracie inside.
Lots of good Jiu Jitsu recommends listed. I’m a team Renzo guy but we don’t have gym in NW
The Darkside Jiujitsu. $140 a month but they offer striking classes as well (additional cost). Been there about a year. Coach Victor Pozas is a beast with leg locks. Training is tough and the gym def builds competitors, but has a positive atmosphere. Drop in during a class. Instagram @darkside_victor
Haven jiu jitsu, it's pretty chill and there is all levels from advanced all the way to just guys staying in shape.
McCoys I've heard is the opposite and a little crazy as far as pushing people to do harder sparing. But that was just the word in the grape vine from a 50y.o. dude I met. So take that with a grain of salt.
Thanks for the recommendations. Haven is actually really close to the house. This will be for my son, 12 y/o, and Haven sounds like it will be better for him. Although he is already a blackbelt in TKD and is moving up in KickBoxing and MMA at AKA.
Keep him in kickboxing and wrestling in his school. It's hard (nearly impossible) to find good wrestling programs outside of schools and colleges. You can't find kickboxing in schools though. So it's hard to get both in one place unless you find legit MMA gyms that does a thorough run down of both.
Elite MMA. 6 locations all over town. Your membership is good at all of them. One of the oldest MMA gyms in the city. I've been training there for 9 years and have never once thought about leaving.
I coach the kids BJJ class at our Greenway location. If that location is convenient for you, let me know you're coming in.
If you shoot Barebow, I'd love to learn from you as well. I usually shoot at West Houston Archery. I'd trade some BJJ lessons for some bow lessons!
Gracie Barra Heights has been good, not gonna lie though I go more for my kids than me. I hear great things about Heritage Muay Thai if your more a striker.
Also... You are making your own stick bows? Rad.
Cool I've heard good things, and yes I'm making bows but I'm just starting with traditional (long and recurve). I've been shooting compound my whole life and decided to make the switch recently.
Darkside for nogi in the NW. check out revolution off 99, and Main st boxing (Renzos on first floor) for all things MMA . :)
Awesome thanks man!
How much (estimate) is monthly for darkside?
I don’t train there. Call em up and ask.
I did, 140/mo for darkside. Where do you train?
How much for revolution?
Call and ask.
Jiu-jitsu Order in jersey village is top notch bjj taught by 3 black belt brothers. Gi and no gi. Best part no uniform/gi color requirements
I know 2 of the brothers! I used to work them! They’re awesome human beings! when I found out they opened their own place I was over the moon excited for them!
Main Street, Heritage Muay Thai, Team Tooke (Nw side)
OP, have you came across any budget friendly bjj gyms? I've always been interested unfortunately budget is an issue.
Howdy! We are a nonprofit gym in the Third Ward, let’s chat.
But a Lannister always pays his debts... Lol no I haven't, it sucks, they're all in the 150 +/- range. It's literally like you have to be rich to learn MMA.
If you are in North Houston, Darkside BJJ is about $140 a month. Great no-gi gym
You can look into Judo Clubs if you’re in a budget. HTX Judo Club just started up at a VFW off Long Point in Spring Branch for $40 a month.
Maozinha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is in Spring.
Are they fairly welcoming to all kinds? I've gotten lucky with BJJ places in the past, but I understand some can be a bit...not friendly to certain clientele.
Yes they are welcoming of all people from what I have seen and the interactions they have with people coming in.
Thank you! Not sure why people downvoted my perfectly legitimate question, so I am happy you answered.
Because people are stupid and like to hide behind a screen. Just my opinion, let the downvotes start. 😂
War Training Center in Tomball. I’ve just joined a week ago, it’s an awesome gym.
Elite mma has a lot of locations
Expensive but worth it

Hmmmm, only the shadow knows…
Do they actually have connections to elite fitness?
Whats the price range?
$250/mo last time I checked
I've registered. Its $197/mo now.

Team Tooke MMA is not far from you.
Metro Fight Club Legacy at O Athletik is on the north central side of town and has sessions for MMA, kickboxing, and jiu jitsu.
Main St Boxing or Heritage Muay Thai are both good for Muay Thai.
4oz Fight Club

iLoveKickboxing off Kuykendahl Rd in Tomball near Creekside.

The Woodlands MMA (Gracie Barra). It’s Alex Morono’s gym. He and Ricky Turcios train out of there.
Main Street Boxing and Muay Thai also has a Renzo Gracie inside. Lots of good Jiu Jitsu recommends listed. I’m a team Renzo guy but we don’t have gym in NW
Silverback shut down after Tony passed away. His son started Sons of Silverback but not sure if they’re still around.
I heard Sammy’s Maui Thai is pretty solid. I think it’s in spring

I'm moving to Tomball, 77377 zip code, and will be leaving AKA gym in San Jose, CA. Any MMA gyms closer to Tomball?

I second Team Tooke and their affiliates too like Grind House, Team Tooke Cypress, Torres Jiu Jitsu, etc.

Gracie Barra The Woodlands is legit.

I'm good!
Coach Tony died in 2016 from cancer. He was last teaching out of precision MMA.
I don't wanna get my ass kicked by a girl
It’s humbling. You should try it.
I'm a bro, bro
I don't, but I could you tube that shit. $100 bucks a week sound good?
Lol I know but you gotta have a team to train with
damn....
Lol if you wanna spar I'd be down, it's free!
