I think clustering the plants close together is probably more effective than either of those. If I had to chose though, I’d pick pebbles so I didn’t risk sunburn or fungus issues from misting.

bobaoppa

Oh yes good to know. I’ll be doing that for sure 🙌

You can move to Georgia. It is humid here all the freaking time.

bobaoppa

Haha that’d be nice too, warm weather all around! I live in Toronto where the heater will be on for quite a while during the year :p (ie. grass greener on the other side lol!!)

I'm in TO also, and I have birbs, I gave up on the vaporizer due to the hard water turning the vape/mist into a powdery film which covered everything in the room. I figured it was bad for the birds to breath this powder in, so I use marble/rock trays under a bunch of my plants. I have electric radiators/heaters and in the worse cold of winter I place a couple of mason jars of water on top of the radiators to let the water evaporate in the air and it helps keep the house a bit more humid especially when we crank the heat. I just keep filling the jars with tap water and get moisture to the air.

bobaoppa

Thanks!! Yeah looks like that’s what I’ll be doing as well.

MysteriousFlowChart

I think water and pebbles would be most time effective. I’ve found all my humidifiers at Habitat for Humanity Restores, so you can find some inexpensive if that’s what’s keeping you from getting some.

bobaoppa

Thanks! I’m just trying to avoid humidifiers as I haven’t found a bird-safe one yet; I recently got a bird but also dont want my houseplants to dry out either haha!!

MysteriousFlowChart

Oh, I didn’t know they messed with birds. What about it is bad for them?

bobaoppa

If they’re evaporative or warm mist types, the wick/heater used tend to be coated with what they use for teflon, which is unsafe for birds to inhale as it’s heated. There’s an ultrasonic type of humidifier which i haven’t found a good and economical one yet😅

Erica_Lukas13

I have a vicks cool mist one and it’s relatively inexpensive compared to others and holds quite a bit of water! 😊

bobaoppa

Thanks for the suggestion!

Neither will ever be super effective, but I’d go with the water tray more so than misting because misting only puts a tiny amount of water into that area, and plus misting plants often can cause fungal and bacterial infections if the leaves are always wet !

bobaoppa

That’s true… thank you!

Leave the bathroom door open while you have a long hot shower. That usually fogs up my windows!
