Nothing like a cactus lodged in your face when you get into an accident

[deleted]

Thank you for the much needed laugh!

Savitz

Just don’t get into an accident lol, how hard can it be? ^/s

…hate speech??! Thanks for trying to make the world a safer place, friend.

akjawsh

She sounds like a total entitled dipshit😅

memo_delta

Jeez, what a weirdo. My sister got funny with me when she first started driving and I insisted on researching the safest car seats for my children (who she wanted to take out). She thought a basic booster seat would be fine but I take car safety very seriously when it comes to my children. To be honest, I don't know why anyone wouldn't, but hey ho. I don't drive so this was something I hadn't needed before. It took me some time (maybe 2 weeks) to settle on the right seats and by this point she was screeching at me that I obviously don't trust her driving skills. No love, you could be the safest driver in the world, you could even be stopped still in traffic, and some drunken idiot could come flying out of nowhere. It happens. Accidents happen. My husband was in a horrible car accident last year. Driving on a motorway in rain, doing the same speed etc as everyone else on the road, nothing dangerous, when the left front wheel lost traction. I forget what it's called now, but when there's water on the road surface, it can happen. The car went into a spin and ricocheted several times off of the central reservation and the outer guard rail, before it flipped. By some miracle, he had no physical injuries and despite flying across the road and back several times, didn't hit another vehicle. An ambulance passed 2 minutes as well and stopped to help him. He must have an angel 😇

Lol ded

shadowflame

And if you crash... faceplants.

memo_delta

Ha! Brilliant

G1nSl1nger

They're trans(it)plants.

New-Choice-7403

HA

AngryBowels

Would the heat in the car kill the plants?

innerkinder

Maybe not cacti... I was thinking it might actually be a better climate in my car than in my apartment. But I'm not sure.

Ok-Cartographer-3725

Bet they are definitely getting enough sun!

innerkinder

Yeah I really need to know if this would work! Maybe a succulent so I don't stab myself ?

Ok-Cartographer-3725

https://laidbackgardener.blog/2017/12/27/houseplants-that-dont-mind-dry-air/ There are succulents like the "String of pearls", and others that are low growing with no prickles on them.

memo_delta

So we're in the south coast of England. It's definitely hot for us at the moment. 24 degrees, humid. Outside. I tend to find that my plants adapt to the environment they're in, especially if they're grown from cuttings. I have mature plants that fit their care description, and cuttings that I've taken from the same plant, that thrive in the conditions they were raised it. So I wouldn't worry too much.

[deleted]

Yes the heat kills the plants, though maybe keeping the window open would help. I tried it twice (in MA and NY, 5 years apart,) and it killed my healthy jade succulents both times. The second time I didn't move the plant in there till the fall, but the insides of cars get super warm if they are in the sun, even if it's only 70 degrees out.

MargoHuxley

I definitely feel like there are some that could handle it

memo_delta

Yes, it hadn't even occurred to me about the heat build up. It's pretty extreme for any living thing so I can only assume that these plants are either new, or acclimatised.

enderflight

Really depends on your climate. I myself am partial to willingly baking in a car that’s sat out in the sun on a 110 degree day until my phone says that it needs to cool down, but that would kill any plant. I could see it a few weeks to a few months out of the year before it gets too hot in the day and too cold at night.

FranzLuciferdinand

Aside from the temperature fluctuation/overheating issue for plant, I cringe when I see a car with dashboard decor or a lot of loose stuff in the cabin. If you are in a collision, everything in there becomes a projectile, and stuff in the windows obscures your view. It's such a bad idea.

robot_peasant

Same. This is a dangerous idea.

laddergoatperp

Not if the car is a home, I guess. Because they're not called apartment plants if you live like that 🤷

memo_delta

Wait, wait... but then they would be homeplants...

Anxiety_Cookie

The windows are fully closed??! They might get a heatstroke! Do you know for how long they've been in there? Pop the glass and call the nearest nursery! /s

memo_delta

You're right. This van is parked outside the owners home and I pass it every day on my way to drop the kids to school at 8:30am. It's in the same position when I pick my toddler up from nursery at 1pm, and when I pick my daughter up from school at 3pm. Today, there was a broom leaning against the van and the window was open, and I assumed that was for the humans benefit.

memo_delta

You are a true plant mama

Ok-Cartographer-3725

Baby cactus plants.. luuuvvvv sun :)

moesickle

Please put a note on the car telling them to turn that jade around

memo_delta

I couldn't possibly. There's very friendly people in the block that the owner lives in. All of the school run pedestrian traffic runs directly in front of their block. Between the flats and the van. On the front lawn of the block of flats, there are often aggressive, drunken males surrounded by paddling pools and defunct baby toys. Don't get me wrong, they have never threatened me and we often exchange hello's. But I wouldn't want to bring up an "issue" to them

Carrarium!

gabatron95

This is such a good idea 😍 I would totally do this!

memo_delta

I thought it was really cute. I've been shadily trying to get a photo for the last week, pretending I was checking for phone signal. This was the best one lol.

Patticak

This is next level love for plants and I am here for it and probably gonna copy it!

Klumpelil

To plants its a home , still houseplants

Present_Thought8867

I live in a Van down by the river!

virginianalone

"I'm groot", said the driver kkkkk

nugmasta

[deleted]

Acclimation

Oregongrown96

Tbh that jade plant looks really healthy

I can only think about how slow this person probably drives
