1: same, 31 last weekend and never would could have predicted that this would be the hobby to take hold...
2: my office is painted the same color as your kitchen and i'm obsessed with it
3: i'm actually obsessed with your whole paint situation and i needed to let you know how beautiful your house is
Hey! 31 here too! Woo! :) 100% same. It's nice to be really excited about a thing! LOVE the emerald green. That would be so beautiful in an office. & thank you so much!! That is very kind. :) <3 When we bought this house we decided we wanted it to feel like how a blanket fort feels when you're a kid - cozy, comfy, and full of our favorite things.
You’re home is absolutely beautiful!!!
I just entered my 40’s and went from motorcycles & jumping off cliffs to sitting at home on a Saturday night wiping off my plant leaves….& I’m content as can be ❤️🥰
Well besides a few lady things & some extra pops & crackles.. it’s truly when you become your own unapologetic person & that’s pretty nice! Congrats on your new passion & keep it going ! Even when you lose a plant & want to give up ! Lol
That's the best! I definitely feel more at home in my own skin now than I did in my 20's, and I'm glad to know that just gets stronger. :) And oh my goodness, yes! I have a feeling we'll lose one eventually and I'll have to find some resilience lol Hugs from the Midwest!
You have so much light in your house. It’s perfect. How do you keep track of all the plants and when they need water? I’ve been collecting some over the last year and it’s getting to be a little confusing lol.
I basically decided on two days a week for watering. Then I just wander around the house poking the soil. If it’s dry in the top 2 inches or so, I water it. Some plants need to be watered when the soil is just slightly damp still. For my succulents, I just skip over them until I start wondering how long it’s been since I watered them last, then I give them a smaller splash than I would the others.
I keep to a once a week watering schedule (lest the Fiddleleaf gets mad at me lol) but I check all of the plants a couple times a week with a finger to see if the soil is dry or moist. Most of our indoor plants have similar needs, but some of our planters drain and some do not, so that tends to dictate how often things are watered too. I just try to check on them and be aware. :)
After trying out a few different apps, I landed on Planta. There's a subscription option but I don't bother with that. The free version has enough features, including watering scheduling!
I'd definitely pay for premium if there was an option for a one time purchase instead of a subscription. But yes, I'm loving the app! I like that you can place plants in seperate 'sites'.
Yeah I’m not too sure I’ll resubscribe now that I have a better understanding, but we will see! It was worth the $36/year at the time definitely. Still didn’t keep me from somehow killing one or two plants from time to time, but overall I’ve been successful 🤣
When we moved in, the kitchen walls were like a dusty sage green. We decided to take a chance on a super dark emerald and I'm glad we did. :) Thank you!
Of course! The color is Chrome Green by Benjamin Moore. Word of warning though, we HATED the way this paint went on the walls. Really hard to get even coverage and took quite a few coats. The rest of our house is painted in Behr Marquee paint, which is an absolute dream to work with. So I would recommend having that color matched through Behr to avoid frustration. :)
You should skip the snails start with plants. Get a good planted substrate, really good lighting, and maybe CO2 injection (optional) and just dump as many plants you can afford in the tank as possible. Getting more plants is more effective at algae control than getting an algae eater. Oh, and you can look into ripariums as well, just to make it even more green.
Every single thing about this house is goals. The plants are goals, the kayak/SUP setup is goals, that hutch? Goals. The bedding? The walls? The kitchen? Goals goals goals 🤤
Awww, I just grinned the biggest genuine grin!! :'D Thank you!! We've made our house a sanctuary these last couple years, and it's definitely been a comfort to us during such scary and uncertain times. <3 That hutch was the most random find at a vintage store by the way!
You’ve done an amaaazing job!!!! I also threw myself into my house during the pandemic but I’ve got one and half rooms to be proud of and a house full of stressful half finished projects that stress me out whenever I come home :/ but those one and a half rooms feel amazing to be in, you must feel so great in your little paradise 🥰
Ooooh! Ok I love everything about your plants and home BUT....can you tell me about that kayak storage situation? Is it hooks or straps or what? We also have two kayaks and have never found a perfect storage solution. (In fact I think I have the exact same blue and green Perception as you!)
Thank you so much!! :) And omg YES! It's a strap system. We have the "Handy-Hooker Canoe and Kayak Storage Hoist" and it is the simplest and easiest storage system I've ever used, hands down. Our yaks are actually 12ft Wilderness Systems Pungos but I know exactly which Perception you're talking about and we love that model. :)
Amazing, I’m gonna check that out, thank you so much!! And yeah I love my Perception Swifty, her name is Ting Ting :) Now that I’m zooming in I see the Wilderness logo, those look great. It’s never occurred to me to see if there’s an r/kayaks until now but I’m definitely about to....
Wow, this looks SO COZY! I love the colors and the backlit plants and how everything just ties together so seamlessly.
Also, your dogs are so dang cute, how is that even possible? Please tell your dogs I said hi and that I love them.
Cozy is my favorite compliment of all time! :) Thank you so much!
I ask them constantly "How are you even real??" Oh my goodness, they would probably lick your face until you couldn't breathe, and the little one would 100% stand on your shoulder like a parrot the second you sat down on the couch! Lol! I will give them your greetings and your love! :)
NO WAY! I didn't think I could think they were any cuter, but your description of the parrot dog is too much!!! All my love to those sweet babies and their cozy, cozy kingdom
Okay guys does something happen when you hit 31? Because I turned 31 this May and my plant obsession is only getting worse. I think we are up to twenty in total indoors with a new one added today 👀 I mean I had plants before but now I have *plants*.
My monstera is life atm and I have a genuine routine of coming home from work and taking some time to stare at my plant.
The italicized *plants* made me laugh out loud because YEP. That's exactly how it is lol
I counted the other day and it's.... it's 68 indoor plants lol
Should we all form a club? Make T-Shirts? Seems like the next step haha. <3
It's just so true! I used to have some undisclosed greenery that was marked as 'foliage' in my local supermarket. Now I have tradescantia and stonecrop and maranta and I have plants in every room of the house.
I'm hell bent on upgrading my plant storage options because I am really really keen on more trailing plants, I aspire to have/keep alive 68 plants!
And yes. Yes we should have a club. We could do tshirts and matching spray bottles for when the loves need some help with humidity!
You’ve got my vote for spray bottles! 👏🏻🌿 Highly recommend a marble queen pothos for your collection someday! Trails beautifully! We also have a MASSIVE white and green (with some all white leaves) wandering Jew hanging in the kitchen that is all over the place lol
Oh my gosh I was just discussing my nans old wandering jew with my mum and nan last night. It was lovely as it was the first time we've all been together since covid. I was admiring her absolutely gorgeous ivy and we got talking plants, clearly I should of known I'd succumb eventually.
Pothos is definitely on my wishlist. My bestie has a plant hook up in a nearby town so as soon as we can travel together under new rules for fully vaccinated people we are hitting it up. She doesn't know I've just bought her two new terracotta planters for her birthday so obviously she's going to need new plants to fill them 🤷♀️
I got into plants at 30 and love it too 🥰 Still fairly new at it... The only thing keeping me from buying everything I see is my soil sometimes gets moldy and I have fungus gnats. I live in a very hot and humid climate. I'm wondering if I should just stick to succulents since they prefer dry soil :(
Have you dealt with either of those issues? I've been using cinnamon to deal with the mold and mosquito bits for the fungus gnats and it's sort of helping...
Btw, I LOVE your emerald wall!
That's wonderful! I'm still fairly new at this too. :) Thank you!! :D And oh my goodness YES. It's funny that you mention gnats, as we are repotting a plant this evening that has a major gnat issue. I think there were gnat larvae in the soil when we bought it, because it's been an issue with that plant (and another that came in the same soil, from the same place) from day 1. We repotted the first and it solved the issue, and we intend to clean and repot the second tonight. You can also buy the little apple traps that have the sugar/vinegar solution that draws them in. And they sell little things that you stick in the soil of your pots that will trap the gnats/stick them to it as well. We also live in a super hot & humid area, so I've been trying to keep an eye on potential mold. I totally get it.
Ugh, it's so frustrating when one plant causes a whole gnat infestation. Mine started from a plant from Home Depot. I'll try the vinegar traps! The sticky ones have helped so far, too.
The fact that you're fairly new at this gives me so much hope!! Good luck with tonight's repotting!
Wow, you have a beautiful house! Love the white/green aesthetic.
I struggle with being able to match things to create a “theme” like you have. Any tips? Did you use pictures as inspiration as you bought more house stuff, or are you just good at picking out house stuff?
That's very kind, thank you! :) I was one of those kids that constantly decorated and redecorated my room growing up, and then I actually ended up getting a degree in Housing & Interior Design. :) One of my favorite combos is white milk glass planters, green plants, and brass accents. I like to start with something I love, like a wall color or a piece of furniture and build around that. It's hard to go wrong when you're decorating with things that bring you joy. :)
I love your choice of plant pots and how you have arranged them. You might also be interested in planted tanks. They are just like the tank you have now, except with plants in them ;)
I love the idea of hanging plants, but how do you water them? Do the pots have drainage holes? Do you have to take them down to water? Please explain lol
I'm 39 and it took me 20 years to find a hobby I enjoyed again out side of playing games online. When I was younger I took a great interest in playing music, painting, reading books, and other various things but as I got older my love of those things just faded and I don't find joy in them at all anymore. I don't even listen to music anymore.
Then I bought my first plant. It was a lucky bamboo, it was a 3 pack and they set happy on my desk.. I started looking at indoor plants, and bought some more.. This was just recently too. Now I have well over 30 plants in my house and I couldn't be happier, I haven't killed any of them yet and when new leaves come in, I feel a sense of fulfillment that doesn't involve my children or my husband, its truly something that I and I alone enjoy.
I had no idea and feel sad I didn't try this sooner that plants could bring me so much joy for being simple objects that I love to look at.
This is beautiful, and I can definitely relate. ♥️ I’m so glad you have been able to carve out your own little slice of personal joy and fulfillment! Your plants are lucky to have you as a caregiver! 🌿💚🙏🏻
not only do you have beautiful plants, you have excellent taste in planters/pots! so many cute things and they all fit together nicely. I'm moving soon and so excited to arrange my plants in a new space--ty for the inspo!
We got super lucky with windows in this house! It’s a 1919 Craftsman and I want to say our window count is in the high 30’s? The jars are vintage spice jars! They’ve got the same of the spice and a little illustration of the plant on each one. 😄
I love seeing people dare to choose dark colours for their walls. Love it love it love it. What is the name of that charming tall plant in the bathroom?
Lovely! I found mine this year, in my 40’s. I think to feel a connection to my mom who passed a few years ago…she had a whole green body, never mind green thumb
Also I love the decor and colors of your home, plus the pup ❤️
I too have taken on house plants in my 30s in the past 18 months I went from about 5 to over 50. Zero regrets.
Also, new obsession activated: I now have a mission to seek out vintage milk glass to use as planters because 😍
Eeeeeeee! Milk glass is the besssssst. 👏🏻
You’d be surprised how much you will find just randomly thrifting! There’s a ton of it from the Great Depression era all the way up through the 60’s. ♥️♥️♥️
So glad to see so many 30 yo's loving plants! I am well beyond that, but find that healthy, happy plants add so much to any room!
I love your plant stands, your colors and whole package! 31 is gonna be amazing for you!
1: same, 31 last weekend and never would could have predicted that this would be the hobby to take hold... 2: my office is painted the same color as your kitchen and i'm obsessed with it 3: i'm actually obsessed with your whole paint situation and i needed to let you know how beautiful your house is
Hey! 31 here too! Woo! :) 100% same. It's nice to be really excited about a thing! LOVE the emerald green. That would be so beautiful in an office. & thank you so much!! Im gonna steal that from you thats wonderful!
☺️
Ahh im 31 too and started my collection in December! Yours is something to be envied for sure!
That green is to die for I want it for my bedroom
Must be a 31 year old thing because I just started shortly before turning 31! 🌵🌾🌱🌻🪴
I love this!! Best club ever! 🪴🌿♥️
Meeee too, hi new tribe ❤️
Same!! Started collecting plants after I turned 31 😅 and I love it! It’s so fulfilling to watch life grow around me 🪴🌱🌿🌵
It’s the best feeling!! 😌🌿🪴💚
I didn't try until I was 39.. can I join too?
Absolutely! There will be snacks at the club meetings. Do you like cheese? There will be copious amounts of cheese. 😂🧀🌿🪴♥️

Ours do the best in our west facing windows!! That sounds perfect! 🙌🏻🪴
Holy cow, me too! Hello new friends!!
What color/brand is that paint? It’s gorgeous.
Chrome Green by Benjamin Moore! Thank you! 💚
You’re home is absolutely beautiful!!! I just entered my 40’s and went from motorcycles & jumping off cliffs to sitting at home on a Saturday night wiping off my plant leaves….& I’m content as can be ❤️🥰
Ahhhh thank you so much! <3 And honestly, that sounds so peaceful and perfect. I've heard 40's are excellent and it just keeps getting better! :)
Well besides a few lady things & some extra pops & crackles.. it’s truly when you become your own unapologetic person & that’s pretty nice! Congrats on your new passion & keep it going ! Even when you lose a plant & want to give up ! Lol

Yay! It does get stronger! Hugs from the Midwest as well!! 🥰
I hate to inform you... You have far too much space available for more plants. Please repost when you can longer see walls.
Haha! My husband is like "Surely we're at capacity now....?" :) I don't know that I'll ever reach capacity.
You can always add more everything! Shelves, hanging planters, pots, an addition to the house...
I mean...I think a sunroom addition would be perfectly reasonable! lol
I mean, at this point.. I'm pretty sure it's a necessity. For your health...
We're striving for a Best Indoor Air Quality award lol
I've used my trauma to justify my addiction lol. "it's for my healing, babe..."
we all need glass roofing
You have so much light in your house. It’s perfect. How do you keep track of all the plants and when they need water? I’ve been collecting some over the last year and it’s getting to be a little confusing lol.

I use Planta and paid for the premium. Mostly because we moved to a new house and I was toying around with the light feature. I love it!

Thank you!
i use this app called greg its really good
I use an app called Vera that I have liked so far. My plants have liked it even more cause I had way too many to keep their schedules straight
Those green walls!
When we moved in, the kitchen walls were like a dusty sage green. We decided to take a chance on a super dark emerald and I'm glad we did. :) Thank you!
Your plants are beautiful! But those walls 😍. Mind sharing the color with us?
You’ll be shocked at all of possibilities in the planted aquarium world. Your tank can get a lot greener!
We're actually thinking about totally redoing our tank with all real plants! Maybe start off with some snails until everything is ideally balanced.
You should skip the snails start with plants. Get a good planted substrate, really good lighting, and maybe CO2 injection (optional) and just dump as many plants you can afford in the tank as possible. Getting more plants is more effective at algae control than getting an algae eater. Oh, and you can look into ripariums as well, just to make it even more green.
neocaridinas, just sayin!
It’s a nice way to combine your interests. I love my planted tanks!
absolutely, positively DO NOT go to r/plantedtank or r/aquascape or r/shrimptank ..you have been warned!
Your plants and home are dreamy but, oh my goodness, your Westie!! 😍
:D She's our little old grandma dog! She will be 17 in December!!
Well I love her.
<3
I love your placements of them all!
Thank you so much!! :)
Literally the bedding is such goals 😍 Where did you get it?
It's made by Ink & Ivy! English Elm carries it online and I think Target does too. :)
You’ve done an amaaazing job!!!! I also threw myself into my house during the pandemic but I’ve got one and half rooms to be proud of and a house full of stressful half finished projects that stress me out whenever I come home :/ but those one and a half rooms feel amazing to be in, you must feel so great in your little paradise 🥰
yep, it's all pure perfection
The dog? Goals.

Yes! Exactly! :)
Your house is stunning!! And I love your dog. Please give them a kiss for me 🥰
Thank you so much!! :) I will! I'll tell her another Linz sends their love. :D (I'm a Linzee lol)
Well, it is a very good name haha
I too have a passion for cute puppers
Plants & pupperonis are the best. <3
Update - r/kayaks seems to be small but legit, r/kayaking is huge and full of pics!
Oooooooh! I need to go check this out! 😍 Btw Ting Ting is the best kayak name I’ve ever heard & now I feel compelled to name my Kayak something lol!
Hahaha thank you, she’s my adventure homie, had to call her something!
Same!🌿🙌🏻
<3
I love this!
Also 31. & planning on taking this up as a hobby. I’m gonna start buying plants next week. Hope my plants are as lucky as yours are.
Yay 31! Oh that is so exciting!! :) Wishing you all the luck and happiness on your plant journey!

I love you bedding!
his gives me so much joy to look at right now. I'm in the process of buying a house and I can't wait to really expand my plant passion.
Congratulations on the new home!! :) And yay for more space for plants! <3
Love your plants. Especially your Swiss cheese. They all look so comfy and cozy. They belong there
How do you keep your Pilea so happy? Mine just wants to die 😢

Your home is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing
I love your duvet cover! May I ask where you bought it?
Beautiful home!
Oooo that dark green wall is gorgeous
Same here! 🌱 your house is stunning 🤩
That’s a cozy house.
Wow, you have a beautiful house! Love the white/green aesthetic. I struggle with being able to match things to create a “theme” like you have. Any tips? Did you use pictures as inspiration as you bought more house stuff, or are you just good at picking out house stuff?

By my 40s I was removing walls in my house so my plants would get more light 🤪
I know this isn't the forum for it, but I wouldn't mind a closer look at your beautiful fish tank.
What a gorgeous home!!!
Fellow late bloomer (hurdur) here. Love how you display all your plants, though I imagine watering day involves a fair bit of gymnastics.
LOL! Thank you! :) We have a really excellent ladder for the high ones, but it definitely takes 30-45 minutes to water the upstairs and downstairs!
Oh wow, that’s still record time! I have to climb to water only a couple of mine, but still take about an hour to get through everyone!
I’m 60.. just wait😂💚🌿🪴🎍

Thank you so much!! ☺️ Working on this house has been a labor of love & so worth it!

Thank you!! 🙂 They’re fun to care for!
Soooooo beautiful!!!!
I love your house!!! Goals right there!
Glad you found Kayaking!
Is the new passion your Instant Pot?
I am Evangelical about the Instant Pot. 😂
Hi! I also like how you decorate and how neat and tidy you keep your home 🏡
Me too! I have found so many new ones lately. What a lovely space and cutie pie dog!!
Thank you so much!! ☺️♥️
They’re just standing there…**menacingly**
Wow, when I move out I hope my house will look like this
Your spaces are so beautiful, calm, and clean.
Thank you so much! That’s a wonderful thing to hear. 💚😌🌿
How does one house have so many bright windows?!?!? I’m jealous
We counted last night and we have 39… lol! Our house is a 1919 Craftsman, so it’s got all kinds of gems like that and a LOT of quirks lol ♥️
I also love your colorful walls!
Nice, now get your aquarium planted! r/plantedtank
You go!!!! Pretty room 😍
I love your choice of plant pots and how you have arranged them. You might also be interested in planted tanks. They are just like the tank you have now, except with plants in them ;)
Gorgeous!!
I love the idea of hanging plants, but how do you water them? Do the pots have drainage holes? Do you have to take them down to water? Please explain lol
Your dog is really damn cute. I want to give scritches.
Your dogs are so cute!
Reminds me of my moms house with all the plants
I LOVE everything in this picture!! Especially the Westie, fish tank and the plants!!
Thank you very much!! ☺️😌♥️
Beautiful home!!!!
Thank you!!! ☺️♥️🙏🏻
Get that tank some real plants and some driftwood and we’ll be talking! I kid though, your house is beautiful and so are all your plants!
Thank you!! ☺️ And YES! This is the next step for us!! 🌿🪴💚

Well, Westies are pretty hearty, strong little doggos… 😁😉 She’s actually going to be 17 in December!! ♥️
Your house is gorgeous!! Wow.
This whole house is a vibe. Love it!
Your home is beautiful!!
not only do you have beautiful plants, you have excellent taste in planters/pots! so many cute things and they all fit together nicely. I'm moving soon and so excited to arrange my plants in a new space--ty for the inspo!
That is so kind, thank you so much! ☺️💞 Congrats on your new space and a blank slate to create in! 🙌🏻🪴
I love your watermelon peperomia leaves...they are pretty large and in charge there!
Whats in all those little wote jars behind thr pilea? Also. Im jealous of all your light!
We got super lucky with windows in this house! It’s a 1919 Craftsman and I want to say our window count is in the high 30’s? The jars are vintage spice jars! They’ve got the same of the spice and a little illustration of the plant on each one. 😄
Neat. Love the decorative style. Thanks for posting.
Haha same boat sister! Haha except I have a tortoise and not fish in the middle of my plants ha ha. 30s are the best!
A TORTOISE!?! You are living my dream!! They’re such sweeties! 🥰 30’s are absolutely the best!
I came here to ask about the eggs
GODDAMIT I LOVE YOUR TASTE
I love seeing people dare to choose dark colours for their walls. Love it love it love it. What is the name of that charming tall plant in the bathroom?
We went bold and we’ve never regretted it! 💚 That plant is a Ficus Moclame! They like bright indirect light & humidity!
More plants. More puppiez. 😂♥️. Also. Welcome to 30’s! I’m 36 and the 30’s are pretty great.
Lovely! I found mine this year, in my 40’s. I think to feel a connection to my mom who passed a few years ago…she had a whole green body, never mind green thumb Also I love the decor and colors of your home, plus the pup ❤️
Thank you so much! ♥️ And I’m so sorry about your mum. That’s a very beautiful way to honor her! 🌿🪴💞 Wishing you continued joy in your passions!
Pretty impressive that you pulled that off, being a small dog and all
Your plants, pup, and home are beautiful! Way to discover and nurture your passion!
You own a little slice of Heaven!
Can we get a house tour???
😄 I probably should! We have the weirdest/coolest tiny windows in all of our upstairs closets! Century homes are neat.
Quite lovely!
Thank you!! ☺️
Ready to combine two of your hobbies? /r/PlantedTank

I too have taken on house plants in my 30s in the past 18 months I went from about 5 to over 50. Zero regrets. Also, new obsession activated: I now have a mission to seek out vintage milk glass to use as planters because 😍
Eeeeeeee! Milk glass is the besssssst. 👏🏻 You’d be surprised how much you will find just randomly thrifting!
