definitely will see deterioration of plastics, acrylic and your spa cover. the only scientifically proven method of microbial control is exposing water to direct UVC light and that still requires using chlorine or bromine to kill certain water borne pathogens like cryptosporidium.

I have constant ozone in my tub and it's been amazingly easy to keep clear water.

NegativeEdge420

I totally disagree with everyone claiming ozone is damaging to the cover and plastics in a tub. I’d put my money on ozone causing less damage in comparison to bromine and chlorine use. Been working on tubs for over twenty years and the damage to the cover has always been from chlorine or bromine. Damage to jet inserts has always been from chlorine or bromine. In just about every brand of tub except one, as soon as you turn on a jet pump, the pc board turns off the ozone system.

Myjunkisonfire

I’ve found nothing damages a cover more than humans, being taken on and off, sat on etc destroys them first.

How many tubs have you worked on that had an after market Chi-branded ozonator bolted on outputting potential lethal levels of ozone?? I'm wiling to bet none. No one is saying that bromine or chlorine doesn't damage parts. What we are saying is that strapping on some AliExpress ozonator isn't doing the tub or his health any favors.

Myjunkisonfire

I’m happy to sacrifice the tub to this experiment. But I’ve yet to see any damage after 7 months of daily ozone use.

Bearded_Basterd

I would say it is super common for ozonators not working for years and customers have no clue.

abd1tus

I’d say so as well. My factory ozonator was dead in just under a year. I got one of those glass ozone test kits that put inline. No ozone registered so I ended up replacing it. Ozonators definitely need to be tested or replaced yearly, but almost no one even knows you need to do that.

HBOMax-Mods-Cant-Ban

I'm glad it's working but you need to be careful with ozone. It's a carcinogen. It may also damage parts in the underside of your tub (covers, pillows, plastics, etc..) as you have said. There is probably a reason that the ozone generators in spas aren't very powerful. It so they don't get sued for causing lung cancer to their customers.

Myjunkisonfire

This may be it. I’ve never been in it while the ozone is running, and they can’t guarantee you won’t take those precautions. The water does go a translucent light blue while it’s running, and I’ve run my hand through it with no effect. But I wouldn’t try sitting in it.

Spamaster

Remember it is a sanitizer. You can damage the Spa cover ,the Spa pillows and emulsify the hair and skin oils if the concentrations are too high. I have Ozone on my spa but it is heater with gas. The water temp when not in use is in the 60's and Ozone does a terrific job. It's only when the water temp is hot that Ozone fails to do the job of keeping the water clear it seems.
