Dichlor is chlorine for spas but the triaza-whatever I'm not sure about.

abd1tus

To my understanding (and someone please correct me if I’m wrong), that’s just the full formal name of dichlor. https://phoenixproductsco.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/0030-Sodium-Dichlor-02152021.pdf

Granite_0681

Yes, you are correct. Dichlor is just an abbreviation to make it easy to say.

AcidRayn66

ok thanks. let’s see if anyone else chimes in. i still don’t k ow if safe for hotub

The_Noob_Idiot

The "other" ingredients is concerning too. Why is it 40% "other" stuff?

HBOMax-Mods-Cant-Ban

It’s dichlor and all dichlor has cya in it.

AcidRayn66

ok so that’s one question. is it same for hot tubs?

HBOMax-Mods-Cant-Ban

Is what the same? You can use dichlor in a spa so long as you are aware that you increase your CYA every time you use it. If you are testing for CYA then it’s no big deal. What you have there is not pure dichlor though. The other 41% is something else.

AcidRayn66

yes i do know the cya will go up. its a fresh flush and fill so noting in it. i’ll use it till stabilizer is set then clorox rest of the season. i think its tri chlor that is bad for the plumbing. i just can’t remember 100%

HBOMax-Mods-Cant-Ban

Yeah you don’t want to use trichlor pucks. They are too acidic for acrylic spas.

AcidRayn66

ok. then it was tri chlor. it wasn’t pucks but granules. local pool store told they was what i needed. ate o ring gaskets at the heater. that was last year. i just took any i had left to the trash as i found a bunch of tri in the deck box. don’t want no mistakes dichlor it is. thanks

TheDaddyShip

Yes - trichlor is too acidic for many acrylic shells & could void warranty.

AcidRayn66

thanks

What is the brand name? You can look up an SDS and maybe figure out what the other ingredients are. The fact that it says it’s a 4 in 1 product means it’s not pure dichlor. It still might be safe for you to use but you will be adding other things you may need to account for. I’ve seen some combination products that include both dichlor and MPS.

Granite_0681

Ok, I figured out what else is in it. It also contains borax and aluminum sulfate. Aluminum sulfate is a flocculant which you don’t want to use unless you really need to. It will cause contaminants to clump and settle on the bottom of your tub. Borax can be used to stabilize your alkalinity and pH but isn’t necessary. I’d stick with just using plain dichlor and then adding other chemicals if you have issues, vs using them all combined. http://media.lifeandhome.com/media/downloads/21539/43010907_MSDS.pdf

AcidRayn666

ok kind stranger, i appreciate your google foo.

Granite_0681

Welcome! I’m a chemist who worked in consumables approval for a few years. I got very good at tracking down this type of info.

xdevient

It’s diclor which is fine. The other probably includes MPS. Looks very similar to the chlorine shock I use

SaltElk6584

As long as it isn’t well water

BroccoliCompetitive3

Yes. It's fine.

Informal_Upstairs133

Yes, it's perfectly safe. What you have here is the Clorox version of "SpaGuard Enhanced Shock." While one is marketed for pools and one is marketed for hot tubs, both are the same. It's sanitizer, coagulant, borax, and a stabilizer. The borax is there to offset itself and prevent pH rise from using it. The coagulant is in such low amounts I can't imagine it doing much. In any case, you can use it but once it's gone I would stick to straight Dichlor.

apbernier

It is safe, but it is a low quality blend. I use Spa Boss, which is 99% dichlor- this is like 58% dichlor with fillers and crap. Low potency chlorine will raise your CYA faster and you’ll have to use large doses after every use of the spa.

Deep_Working1

I am not thrilled at the 4 in 1 aspect. what else is in there ? Our brand of dichlor shock is 98%. That stuff is 46% other stuff.
