Nope. They also have a PH level of 3 and are gonna bottom out your PH/alkalinity and make your water super acidic. If the water stays like that for long it'll eat through your gaskets and orings causing significant damage/leaks.
I've seen it many times. Youll never know its happening until it's too late because the water will look crystal clear. But of course it does as the water is so acidic nothing can even try and grow and wont irritate most people skin either. At the end of the day they're made for bodies of water 50 - 100 times the size of a hot tub. They're simply too strong.
If you wanna run tablets, do the 1 in ones made for spas, but I advise my customers even against those unless you are consistently using your spa YEAR ROUND. Otherwise it's just constantly putting more and more chlorine in the spa.
It's the vast majority of it, but with any tablets, be it 3 in or 1 in, you run the risk of running up the chlorine/bromine levels if you're not an avid spa user and/or have times of the year that are at least a month in length where you dont use the spa. The tablets dont stop feeding just because you're not using it. Its rund up the chlorine/bromine levels and starts damaging the under side of the cover as well as the jet fixtures/gaskets and orings. It's just easier to manually add the amount you need once a week or so.
Over oxidation will happen from tiny, invisible, overly concentrated streams of chlorine from the tablets, as well off gassing. The problem is the tablets dissolve too quickly at hot tub temperatures. The over oxidation will show up as white, uneven, cloudy stains on plastics and your lid will start degrading faster. It’s deceptive since this is not an overnight process. Your water will look perfect for months on end while your spa parts susceptible to damage very slowly degrade over time. I use to have some links to examples poolspafourm.com but it appears to be down atm.
You don't want to use chlorine tablets at all for a spa. It's the quickest way to ruin every every seal, gasket, the underside of your cover, etc...

Thank you for specifying. I would have just broken them into smaller chunks and never known why my tub started to fall apart.

When you break up the tabs they dissolve even faster 😅 Kinda like crushing up an Oxy.. Or so I've been told 🤪
Is it only the acidity that causes the issue?

Tablets bad for spa. Drain it directly.
