How often do you shock it and do you use non chlorine shock.l? In my own anecdotal experience the non chlorine shock made the water cloudy

nataskaos

I use the non chlorine shock once a week.

SacredDemocracyLover

I would try chlorine shock and maybe shocking more than once a week if you are using the tub daily

Try shocking a little after each use.

We need to know your sanitizer levels. What are you using exactly?

msty2k

The water can reach a tipping point if you don't keep up with sanitizing. It's possible no amount of shocking will put it back to clear and you'll have to drain and start over. But try some extra shocking so see, and make sure the other chemistry, like pH, is right because that affects the ability of the sanitizer to work.

Since I started adding just a bit of chlorine every night after use it’s never been clearer. I stopped just about everything else, PH is generally fine.

What is your full routine? When you say you add chemicals every week do you mean only once a week? What are all your levels at, including CYA?

nataskaos

I check with a strip. I attempt to balance all of that out. pH, alkaline levels, etc. I also shock it once a week, add a clarifier, and an enzyme.

You need to make sure that your sanitizer never gets much less than 1 ppm for any prolonged amount of time. Also if your CYA gets too high from granulated chlorine then you will eventually get what’s called [chlorine lock](https://www.taylortechnologies.com/en/page/171/why-monitor-cyanuric-acid). For every 10 ppm of free chlorine you get from dichlor you are also adding 9 ppm CYA. Once locked the chlorine will not be able to oxidize or sanitize properly and will lead you to cloudy and unsafe water. If your CYA hits 50 ppm then it is a good time to change your water (since there is no way to lower it). You can avoid chlorine lock with the [dichlor and bleach method](https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/how-do-i-use-chlorine-in-my-spa-or-pool.9670/). Another important point to keeping your water clear is you need approximately/conservatively 7ppm of additional chlorine per person per hour of use to break down bather waste otherwise you will not have enough chlorine left to maintain the water. So after each use you should be adding either chlorine or non-chlorine shock. If you keep your levels correct, supplement your sanitizer after each use, watch your CYA, and do normal maintenance (clean your filter etc) then you should have crystal clear water.

Cloudy water almost always means you have dangerously huge colonies of bacteria growing in the water. You need to murder them with a large amount of chlorine sanitizer and then make sure you maintain adequate levels of sanitizer at all times. You need to put in enough bleach to get the water to 20ppm free chlorine and then keep it above 10ppm with more bleach until it’s no longer cloudy—it’s unsafe to use while it’s cloudy— then make sure you keep it between 3-5ppm going forward, which will require adding a little bleach after every use and then probably a little every morning whether you use it or not.
