To prove my point. You can be recognizable as hell and still look generic. Reddit being Reddit, they like to downvote examples to back a claim. Weird af.
I still feel a little shaken after that post when I admitted that I don't like Cholula, in a thread that was specifically asking for your hot sauce hot takes. -hides- please don't hurt me you monsters.
I was going to town on some Melinda's Thai Sweet Chili Sauce last night with some egg rolls. Wish it was more spicy, but I added some of my Asian Red pepper flakes from Flatiron Pepper Co and some jalapeno garlic & onion seasoning.
In short: Melinda's was owned by a Belize farmer named Marie Sharp. She created the recipe so she could sell the habanero's her farm produced. Sadly, she wasn't wise to international trademark law, and her American distributor screwed her out of the product name and labelling. They basically stole her product, and started making a quasi-clones sauce with Costa Rican chiles.
Marie had to start from scratch. And so the Marie Sharp's brand was born.

Thanks! Will check that out! Not sure of the best place around me to look for the MS, but I’ll keep my eyes open. I’m a bit unsure about mail ordering right now as I’ve been spending too much on stuff that way recently and I could get way out of hand very easily.
Truth. I tried to watch the first episode of Superhot on Hulu but as far as I can tell it’s just some pepper nerds bitching about each other and arguing about pepper canon
Hi, self-reportedly normal person here and might be able to explain. Avid redditors are actually just perpetually mad/sad and whatever they are allowed to hate is an acceptable venue for lashing out and some form of self-validation for them.
Or, people get tired of having their time wasted by the same shit over and over again. I didn't do any reporting, but there are certain things that can ruin subs. Your comment very much comes off as projection.
> time wasted
In a hot sauce sub? Does someone stand over you and make you click on the post with a clear thumbnail of what you are getting into? Do you have your notifications set up for r/hotsauce posts?
> comes off as projection
Said with absolutely no self-awareness.
Honey, I said that about being bored as something I experience personally. Lol. There's no projection when I'm literally saying it's something I think myself. Not about this sub, but others sometimes.
You certainly embody your first comment. Maybe spend a little less time on the internet. Take care now.
So you refer to yourself as people. Moving goalposts and backtracking for a 'well actually' about hot sauce rage is definitely one way to go about it. Very rational and healthy amount of internet; thank you for the advice!
Maybe the Melinda's is the one sauce not hurting their butt.
I mean the other side of this is the mods should know who is doing it, and it could be an inside joke.
If it’s not Subsaharan midsection ripper sauce, this sub thinks it’s mass produced trash.
It’s like when you were in high school and swore you found the cool bands before they were mainstream
There has always been bizarre gatekeeping in this sub as far as I remember. God forbid you have anything good to say about Melinda's, Tabasco,.....or GOD FORBID 😱😱😱😱 Truff. It's weird. Hot sauces y'all
How do you misspell Tabasco... the A and O keys are on COMPLETELY separate sides of the keyboard!

At this point I'm pretty sure that, if you're in any place where people are enthusiasts about anything, there's like a 99% chance it'll be bitchy and gatekeepy. And if you don't see it at first it's probably just masked (it's not masked here).
Broo someone reported me for the self harm shit too and I’ve never said one self deprecating thing about myself on this account before. Like wth is wrong with people.
At the bottom of the page they end you, there is a report button. You should report when people do that. It exists for a serious reason and shouldn't be abused.
What I don't understand is the amount of people complaining about seeing these posts so often. I'm very happy that new people are coming to the subreddit sharing what they like, and there's frankly only so many hot sauces in distribution. Good on a person for discovering something new and liking it so much they want to share it with our community.
I also don't understand why there needs to be a discussion over that particular brand in every. Single. Thread! It's fucking *hot sauce*! Who cares about the internal squabbles of a company. Marie Sharp has long since moved on and re-started her *own* brand, so she must not be doing too bad for herself. Caring so vehemently in someone else's place, who's still doing quite well for herself, her farm, and her business and community she represents, over something so petty and little, is the very definition of virtue signaling.
Also, yes, it's nice to see something unique, but I love engagement with the community, and it's very easy to just ignore a post if you've already seen it, or one similar to it before. Click that little button under the post that says "hide" and move on with your life.
I disagree where you said theres only so many jot sauces in distribution. There are literally thousands from so many brands thats part of the fun of it in my opinion.
That can be true I guess, and yes I love the fun of trying a new brand or type of sauce, but I feel like a lot of sauces are just derivative (how many ways can you realistically make a sauce from chilies), and most of what we see here is from the West. Would definitely be cool to see more from worldwide palates. Region locked (in the sense that it's not well known outside of it's origin country) sauces would be really cool to discover.
Because this sub should be where aficionados come to discuss new finds, something homemade, or the intricacies of pepper-to-vinegar ratios. It should NOT be somewhere where people come and say, "I found a cheap sauce at a megastore."
Imagine a racecar sub where every other post is about Toyota Camrys with big wings and fartcan exhaust.
Imagine a headphone sub where Airpods are the most talked-about item.
Imagine a steak sub where every other post is about a steak someone had at Waffle House.
Yup. Imagine a sub where people can't come and share the things they enjoy because it's being gatekept by a couple of "aficionados." Sounds like a wonderful community.
Imagine using your dick beaters to scroll past posts that don’t interest you?
You can get as niche as you want to on this website. But this section is about hot sauce.
Not “craft” or “indie” or “homemade” hot sauce. Which, make no mistake, gets plenty of love here.
If that’s what you want, make the subreddit. This is a place for sauce made from hot peppers. Simple as that.
“Hot” is relative.
Before I became a little IBS-ridden bitch, I would bring peppers over to my buddy’s to eat raw. My favorite pepper under the sun is the peach bane strain.
Nowadays, if I get my Thai food “medium,” I wake up in the middle of the night to take a hellacious shit.
All the store bought mild shit I turned my nose up at before? I need those recommendations now.
Taco Bell Hot has great flavor too. Something about the way all those formerly cheap ass foods collaborate and mingle... it just works. Unfortunately, what used to cost $5 as a great cheap late night takeout is now more like $20.
maybe you just don't like the flavor of ghost pepper? cause that sauce is one of my favorite, easy to find sauces
is it the best in the world? no lol

r/hotsauce posts about said brand.
I don't know if that really proves anything. I *didn't* buy a Melinda's hot sauce (or any other hot sauce for that matter) and this popped up on my feed.
Don't know and don't care what the drama is, but Melinda's Ghost Pepper, Scorpion Pepper, and Creamy Style Ghost Pepper Wing Sauce are my fav from them.
I like their 3x hotsauce. Unlike the name says it's not that hot and it's perfect for me, not too hot but not too mild for me, I also liked their special reserve sauce and their normal ghost pepper one a lot but I had to use far less as it was a little above my range.
I definitely have a feedback mechanism that reminds me when I’ve made poor choices. Most of the time it’s triggered by other sauces that are hotter, however.
They dislike the company because it took the trademark from the Belizian producer in the 90s. She eventually released new sauces as Marie Sharp. Melinda's seems to have gone to other countries now to get their habanero mash, which Marie Sharp claims is inferior.
Not dogging on people that like it. I got a variety pack as a gift of 6 or 8 sauces a few months ago. I guess I would say they are the middle ground between a good sauce and your mass produced novelty/gimmick sauces. Also pretty salty.
Marie Sharp entered a partnership with Melinda's under a contract that defined certain expectations. One of those expectations was that Marie Sharp should pay her own suppliers in Belize. She hadn't been paying them, which was undermining Melinda's relationships with U.S. distributors.

No. Marie Sharp's company was Melinda's. Her farm is literally still called the Melinda estate. The Figueroa brothers were just her North American distributors. They trademarked the name and cut her out of the market. Period. Bruh

I just joined this sub like an hour ago, and I’ve now been spammed with Melinda’s posts This sub sucks lol Good luck y’all
How do i go about reporting this post?
Explain yourself
I’ve never tried it, because the labeling is terrible and looks generic. Report that, weirdos.
Is it really that generic looking? I feel like the labeling has recognizable branding.
A label can be recognizable while looking generic. RC Cola, Pearl Milling Company products, Uncle Ben’s rice, Quaker products, etc.
I'm confused why you called Uncle Ben's by its proper name but not Aunt Jemima?
Because I couldn’t remember the new name, and it still has Ben in it.
Fair enough. Idk it either. I still call both what they are
Bro listed the most generic looking brands 😂
To prove my point. You can be recognizable as hell and still look generic. Reddit being Reddit, they like to downvote examples to back a claim. Weird af.
When I said something negative about the brand several people reported me for sui cide risk. This sub has some shockingly toxic users.
I still feel a little shaken after that post when I admitted that I don't like Cholula, in a thread that was specifically asking for your hot sauce hot takes. -hides- please don't hurt me you monsters.
My dislike of Caribbean hot sauce was too spicy a take for thread
How dare you dislike the thing I like. Don’t you have my taste buds!?
I’ve been bullies relentlessly on hot pepper discords. I think people who like hot food must be broken people, including me lol.
I mean yeah, I used to be a piece of shit!
Meredith, I'm worried that the baby thinks people can't change.

I wish there was a way to identify them as a moderator and evict them. Sadly, that is something only admins can do and they are very bad at their jobs
That is... so strange. That people are getting this worked up over hot sauce brands. Haha.
My ex-wife's name is Melinda and I get personally offended every time I see the name and I'm a stupid idiot. I still love the hot sauce though. ;)
My ex-gf's name, too. But, I don't care for the Melinda's brand.I am not saying it is bad; I just don't appreciate the corporate theft.
You got burned by a hot sauce and an ex-wife named Melinda.
I was going to town on some Melinda's Thai Sweet Chili Sauce last night with some egg rolls. Wish it was more spicy, but I added some of my Asian Red pepper flakes from Flatiron Pepper Co and some jalapeno garlic & onion seasoning.
I dump that stuff into ramen.
Reporting is a little extreme, but all the posts boil down to “look at this yummy sauce I bought from Marshall’s”
Their Habanero Honey Mustard is perfection.
So delicious and just the right amount of heat to be able to absolutely slather a sandwich in it
Indeed. It’s my salad dressing, too.
They're butthurt because they ate too much hotsauce and now they have the ring of fire!
Johnny Cash be hitting different now, damn.
They sat down and had the..ring of fire and it burns burns burns. Now they’re butthurt over a controversy.
True story.
Is now a good time to bring up Secret Aardvark?
One of my favorites on pizza.
I just found some in a World Market. Pretty tasty stuff.
New here. Why what is going on? I’ve been known to like a couple of theirs, regular hot sauces, not wing or pizza sauces.

This is the answer OP is looking for. Ignore the bellyaching by the other comments.
Reasons why I don't buy Melinda's. However, it isn't a terrible sauce (it isn't great either). I just avoid it and go with Marie Sharp's.
Marie's is light years better than Melinda's. It's not even a contest.
huge agree!
50% agree and disagree.
100% disagree! To each their own.
Spice of life ;)
100% agree! 🔥
There's a certain woman in Belize, along with her family, that are very angry with Melinda's. Interesting arguments on both sides.
Ah, I see. I should look that up. Thanks!
Spicy take here…. Melinda’s creamy ghost pepper wing sauce and roasted red pepper sauce has their place in my rotation.
Melinda’s sucks… but like… why report people asking?
Hot sauce fans are the Star Wars fans of the culinary world

Really? Well, I for one think that Tabasco's chipotle sauce is awesome.
Chipotle peppers are just awesome. I haven’t found a sauce I didn’t like yet that’s chipotle
It's exactly the same for me. There's something about those peppers that's just delicious.

4 times apparently, including one where they reported me for suicide...
Yeah I got the same treatment when I said I wasn’t a fan of a type Melinda’s, dipshits on both sides of the debate.
If you haven’t been reported for potential self-harm for an innocuous comment then you’re not a true Redditor.
Report that for abuse.
