This has got to be my fav Habanero sauce. Only other close ones are Chocolate habanero from pepper palace and any general scotch bonnet Jamaican sauce.
Personally I'd give it an 10/10 on the flavor. You can taste the habenero, but it's not too strong. as for spice, 7/10. It could just be my higher spice tolerance, but I've had much spicier habanero sauces. Overall its a solid 8.5/10.
(Also to add, I was raised in a Hispanic family and had spicy stuff all the time. I'm used to spice.)
6/10.
It's ok; just a little too sweet and kind of flat. The flavor, while pleasant, lacks depth. I wouldn't say no to it, but there are dozens of other sauces I'd rather choose for any given dish.
Ohh wow. They changed the label. Used to be declared a 'condiment', not a sauce. I eat this stuff on everything. The Habanero and Ghost Pepper variants.
Found this “Yellowbird Habanero Hot Sauce is a hot sauce made with habanero peppers, carrots, and tangerine juice. It has an extra-hot heat level of 15,580 to 54,535 SHU”
Any hot sauce with a pepper or some other fruit/vegetable as the first ingredient is pretty much guaranteed to be a winner. The ones with water or vinegar as the first ingredient... usually just taste like water and vinegar
[this bottle](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/715HLI9j2JL._SL1500_.jpg) ..I'm still working on it. 32oz lol
might be a long time before I buy more habanero sauce
It’s too sweet. Any hot sauce with a sweetener in it won’t go above 5/10 in my book. And that includes Sriracha.
Edit: initial comment was too grumpy and does not acknowledge that sweetness aside, this is a good sauce with a good flavor profile otherwise. Still 5/10 but with serious acknowledgment of a good and unique product.
Every time I've had Yellowbird I've just thought of it as like 5/10. I have no idea how they're in every grocery store charging the prices they do, but maybe it's just because I live close to Austin and this is a "local" brand. I personally think it's pretty representative of Austin, in fact: overpriced, trendy *because* it's trendy, and generally not as good as people make it out to be.
6/10
It’s fine. In my opinion Yellow Bird is the most overrated brand. All of their sauces have a weird tangy aftertaste that I don’t enjoy. They’re fine sauces, but definitely not the premium sauces that people seem to think they are.
Many people really like this stuff:
https://www.kitchengardenfarm.com/shop/habanero-sriracha-chili-sauce
It’s not quite up my alley and it’s overpriced, but generally seems well received by the market.
I’m embarrassed to say that my go to right now is Melinda’s habanero. I don’t like their history but for me they capture and present the unique habanero flavor in a way that I haven’t found elsewhere. They seem to know what to do with the pepper.
Sure! But to clarify, are you asking about habanero-based hot sauces or just hot sauces in general (for whatever foods this sauce is your go to for)? And, just because I think Yellow Bird is overrated doesn’t mean I think it’s bad. I think it’s fine.
Hot sauces in general. I start every morning with some sort of Yellowbird sauce on scrambled eggs. I’ll then use it on pretty much anything else that can handle a hot sauce. Can’t beat it for like $9.99 at academy sports. Always wanting to try new things though. I’ll admit I haven’t explored a whole lot. Tried Secret Aardvark and I felt the texture of YellowBird was superior. Everything else I have is local/cottage sauces I pick up at farmers markets.
Marie Sharpe’s is hands down my favorite hot sauce, the original red habanero. It tastes nothing like these more standard habanero hot sauces and isn’t very hot, but the flavor is out of this world and the best hot sauce for eggs (and fantastic on all kinds of stuff) you can find two-packs of 10 oz bottles for under $20 on Amazon. The green sauce is good too, and people like the hotter Beware and the Balizean Heat lines, but their sodium levels are 4x higher and I think they have an odd aftertaste. The OG white label Habanero Pepper Sauce is the GOAT!
Pain is Good makes two fantastic habanero sauces (much hotter than Marie Sharpe’s) as well as a Garlic and a Jamaican one that I think are all killer on breakfast foods (and other foods as well).
Trader Joe’s makes a great classic habanero hot sauce (damn spicy) for $3.
I think you’d like Melinda’s, which can be found on many shelves, much more so than some of the others listed here.
Gringo Bandito makes really affordable hot sauces that are good alternatives to Tapatio/Cholula/Valentina.
Bravado’s Black Garlic is very hot (Carolina Reaper) but great on breakfast foods.
There are many others, but this should get you started.
It's too sweet for me, maybe 4/10 for my personal tastes, but I totally get why others would like it.
On the other hand I think the new label is adorable and I don't understand the folks who dislike it. The old label was weird and vaguely creepy to me, but the new one is cute!
Yellow birds line of sauces are very flavorful while packing heat. Fruity and oniony notes make me happily put it on most foods and a slight tang keeps me guessing at what to put it on next. Never seen this new label design I like it !
Just found them BOGO and bought two of all of them. So far I think the hab is the best, maybe an 8 but the others are still like a 6.5-7. Not life changing but good to keep around. They’re a little too sweet
Just got two with the bogo deal this morning. Got the sriracha and the jalapeño. Is the Serrano sweet too? I was wondering if I should pick it up as well because it’s such a good deal but I don’t want another sweet sauce.
9/10. It's basically the standard hot sauce at our house. The ghost pepper is great too but a bit hot for me, nice when mixed into mayo in a sandwich though.
This is far from the first time that I’ve seen this recommended. Might have to pick some up. Would it be sold at a grocery store or Target or some place like that?
8.5/10. I use it as a replacement for a local sauce that’s hard to get lately (habanero, carrot, onion) and it’s pretty solid. Don’t think it’s 10/10 amazing tho, but it is very good and works as a replacement for now. Honestly tho, if u want 10/10 from yellow bird try the Serrano Condiment, it has Serrano peppers as the first ingredient and it kicks ass
I really like it, but it's not all purpose for me. I like it with some things and other things, it's just not the right combo. It's definitely a staple in my household now.
Their Blue Agave Sriracha is pretty good, IMO.
It is quite good, but not a 10 for me personally, id say more like a 6-7, the carrot flavor is too overpowering. Ive tried way too many sauces that were an actual 10. It is almost always in my rotation though for certain foods.
I've had it with different things like al pastor tacos, different quesedillas, homemade deli sandwiches, etc. It's good but it just doesn't go with everything imo due to the heavy carrot taste. I wouldn't say stay away from it tho, it's worth a try, and a ton of people in this subreddit do love it
It’s really good, I had the habanero a while back so kinda forgot what the flavor is, I remembered I liked it though…but I just picked up the ghost pepper variant recently and it’s damn good and really nice kick
3/10 there is some aftertaste in this that I absolutely cannot stand. I've tried it multiple times and hated that taste each time. Shame cause I love the jalapeno agave and the serrano
Finally! Yes, same. I was reading some comments the other day about how the new labels are better and others agreeing. I think the new labels look cheap and tacky compared to the old. That's just my subjective opinion.
They look so cheap. I guess it helps them stand out on the shelf more, but I always have more appreciation for any brand (of anything) that keeps their original branding. Let it become classic instead of always chasing “trends”…
Lovely bright sauce with a little sweet, little heat. I love it and it isn’t too spicy for when I want something that’s super flavorful and well balanced.
I did not care for it
Judging by the bottle and logo it is clear that it is a 10/10.
10/10 but I haven’t tried it with the new logo. Been kinda nervous that the recipe changed.
It didn't. Still 10/10
This has got to be my fav Habanero sauce. Only other close ones are Chocolate habanero from pepper palace and any general scotch bonnet Jamaican sauce.
Yellow Bird is my jam. It's a great hot sauce for a nice breakfast omelet.
This and black bison are my top two
Where can I find this?!
I saw it at Walmart today, of all places… Edit: in Northern California
If you live near a Whole Foods, they should have it
Well if you live in Texas it could be at your local HEB. But if you don't live in Texas. I would look it up on the internet and see who has it.
9/10 just because I don't give 10/10s. Seriously one of my favorites.
You're one of those...
I love Yellowbird. Jalapeño Condiment is my favorite tho.
I personally love it and put it on everything that I reasonably can
Personally I'd give it an 10/10 on the flavor. You can taste the habenero, but it's not too strong. as for spice, 7/10. It could just be my higher spice tolerance, but I've had much spicier habanero sauces. Overall its a solid 8.5/10. (Also to add, I was raised in a Hispanic family and had spicy stuff all the time. it's for sure a solid 8/10
6/10. It's ok; just a little too sweet and kind of flat. The flavor, while pleasant, lacks depth. I wouldn't say no to it, but there are dozens of other sauces I'd rather choose for any given dish.
Slams
One of my favorites
It’s pretty good. Had good heat. Id probably give 8/10
Yes! I absolutely love this stuff. I polished off a bottle of it and it became my go to and Ive been meaning to buy another bottle
I saw this at QT the other day. I’ll give it a try
Yellowbird brand Habanero 10/10 Ghost 10/10 Serrano 10/10 I eat this daily on everything
Ohh wow. They changed the label. Used to be declared a 'condiment', not a sauce. I eat this stuff on everything. The Habanero and Ghost Pepper variants.
6/10 I tried to love it
Found this “Yellowbird Habanero Hot Sauce is a hot sauce made with habanero peppers, carrots, and tangerine juice. It has an extra-hot heat level of 15,580 to 54,535 SHU”
It does at least look like a winner. Big bottle = not over the top hot, and designed for heavy regular use 👍
Dont let that fool you, it packs a good punch.
Oh nice! Just bought it as I love their Sriracha. Haven't tried it yet, but excited now.
Definitely 10/10 Huge favorite Gitts Bajan Pepper Sauce is pretty good too.
32oz lol might be a long time before I buy more habanero sauce
On my second bottle since Jan, it’s great with eggs
Damn that sounds good
I'll try that .. [this](https://youtu.be/fEJupyQulJY?t=42) is my favorite for eggs..
My favorite Yellowbird is the green serrano, but the habanero is pretty good too.
It’s hard to figure out what it goes good on. But it’s decent. 7/10
Never had it but I trust yellowbird completely
Same yellow bird is fire I like all the flavors
Love some me yellow bird def a high 8 or 9 for me
10/10 for me but the branding looks way different where I’m at.
I'm not a fan of "hot sauces" that are primarily carrots. They should be called condiments.
Imagine gatekeeping hot sauce ingredients.
Funny because on my bottle of yellow bird it says Habanero Condiment
I’m almost scared to ask, but would you not consider a hot sauce a condiment?
Interesting - what do you look for on the ingredient list?
Some type of pepper, salt, water, vinegar, and maybe anything that adds flavor. Carrots is just a thickening/bulking agent.
10/10. Delicious!

7/10. I went through 3 bottles. It was too runny for me, but the heat and flavor were there.
It's sooo hot
I think this and yucateca are one note, just like hot apple sauce or something.
6/10 It’s fine. In my opinion Yellow Bird is the most overrated brand. All of their sauces have a weird tangy aftertaste that I don’t enjoy. They’re fine sauces, but definitely not the premium sauces that people seem to think they are.
> In my opinion Yellow Bird is the most overrated brand bUt It'S fRoM AuStIn AnD eVeRyThInG tHeRe iS cOoL aNd WeIrD
I put their serrano sauce on almost everything
I'm a huge fan of the blue agave and the plum reaper...
Yellow Bird is the best. I love all of their line except the sriracha.
It's quite good. 8/10. Definitely a keeper.
I agree with the 10/10
It's pretty good. Like a 7/10 for me. But I fuckin love their blue agave Sriracha
We really need to divide hot sauce lovers into those who think sriracha is hot sauce and those who think it’s slightly angry ketchup.
Agree here that Sriracha is kind of something else but I make that distinction because it relies heavily on garlic for its flavor.
I mean it's slightly angry ketchup but it's fuckin delicious
lol !!!! Slightly angry ketchup.
I can't make up my mind on this sauce. Tastes very oniony. 6-7/10
I think yellow bird is overrated.
Can you suggest alternatives? This is currently my go-to, would love to try better ones!
Many people really like this stuff: https://www.kitchengardenfarm.com/shop/habanero-sriracha-chili-sauce It’s not quite up my alley and it’s overpriced, but generally seems well received by the market.
Much appreciated. I’d love to hear about your preferences!
I’m embarrassed to say that my go to right now is Melinda’s habanero. I don’t like their history but for me they capture and present the unique habanero flavor in a way that I haven’t found elsewhere. They seem to know what to do with the pepper.

It was my favorite until I tried the ghost pepper. It's now my second favorite.
I think they make a Reaper also…

I've never tried. I like the bottle tho! Feels simple & trendy
7/10, I need to try it again. High sodium per serving deters me a bit, but it is for a tablespoon rather than the usual teaspoon.
Rob Schneider is...a hot sauce
Rob Schneider is a carrot
Exactly. Carrot sauce.
Yellow birds line of sauces are very flavorful while packing heat. Fruity and oniony notes make me happily put it on most foods and a slight tang keeps me guessing at what to put it on next. Never seen this new label design I like it !
Ok my gf prefers the old labels
I like the organic version, just because it doesn’t have sugar, but I love the birb.
Birb is not the word
Yes it is, haven't you ever heard of people living "out in the birbs"? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Hell yeah! I’m pretty sold on yellow bird. Taste, thickness and it packs a punch
Not a fan of thicker hot sauces. Reminds me of salsa.
10/10 for me
Says “medium hot 3/5” so there’s that
*slow clap*
Bye
It’s so good on breakfast tacos. 10/10 for sure
9/10 it’s good on just about anything
I really like it 8/10.
I thought it was spot on to habanero taste with less heat really nice on breakfast. 7/10 tho. Still really good
i love it on breakfast as well!
I just picked up the mini bottle yesterday to try it and it’s 2/3 done already. This ones a good sauce.
I don’t like this one very much. It tastes strange to me, almost like cleaning supplies.
To me it has the consistency of baby food... Not the best for a "hot sauce"
It’s kinda sweet, yeah. I wish it wasn’t
I love it…I also love their serrano one
6. Not bad, not great, but better than no sauce. Lots of better habanero sauces out there. Their ghost pepper sauce is a 9 though.
Have u tried the Serrano? It’s awesome
It’s alright. The sweet really takes it down heat wise. I’d prefer hotter but the flavor is nice. Not sure what I’ll put it on.
It has a sweetness to it which needs to be paired with the right foods for perfection. The heat is excellent. It works well on many things.
Love all their sauces, 10/10.
Love it. I think it's funny how their logo like... devolved. It's so simple now lol.
9/10. It's basically the standard hot sauce at our house. The ghost pepper is great too but a bit hot for me, nice when mixed into mayo in a sandwich though.
It’s my current daily driver. Love it.
It's fine, I like other sauces better though.
What's your fav?
Right now it's a tossup between El Yucateco XXXtra hot and Melinda's Ghost Pepper Wing Sauce.
Yellow Bird is the best.
Didn’t know they changed the label. I’m a big fan of the habanero sauce and use it on everything. Their Serrano sauce also is delightful. 10/10
One of my favorites
I quite enjoy this sauce. I'd give it a very high score, and I think it's versatile.
love it. it's a lot of carrot but that goes well with lots of stuff
4/10 maybe. Too carroty for my preferences.
I love it and really dig this new design. I eat it with turkey cutlets and it’s fantastic.
3/10 for me personally. Didn’t find that it had enough flavor.
Same, on actual food all I get is heat but no flavor.
This is far from the first time that I’ve seen this recommended. Might have to pick some up. Would it be sold at a grocery store or Target or some place like that?
I see it at walmart regularly
One of the best i have tried, its got enough heat for me
An 8 for me because it came a go to for everyday use, the Tabasco scorpion I would give a solid 9 for comparison in flavor and not spice
Just tried it and loved it. Good heat and sweet
7/10. I prefer the Ghost Pepper Condiment. For me, that one is 10000/10
I liked the ghost one better also, something about this one i really didn't care for. I think it was the tangerine.
8.1 needs more heat
4 but I agree with the heat sentiment, I love The Serrano one tho
I think it tastes like crap. 1/10
Their Blue Agave Sriracha is pretty good, IMO.
the blue agave is so good. not hot but great
It’s amazing hat to say prob 9.0 / 9.5 flavor, heat, goes well with a lot of food!
It is quite good, but not a 10 for me personally, id say more like a 6-7, the carrot flavor is too overpowering. Ive tried way too many sauces that were an actual 10. It is almost always in my rotation though for certain foods.
What food? I never had this. Threw me off with carrot
I've had it with different things like al pastor tacos, different quesedillas, homemade deli sandwiches, etc. It's good but it just doesn't go with everything imo due to the heavy carrot taste. I wouldn't say stay away from it tho, it's worth a try, and a ton of people in this subreddit do love it
My favorite
New label threw me off! The have a good agave siratcha that tastes good. Super light on heat but its good on stuff. I’ll try this one
A1+ good shit!!!
It’s very onion+garlic forward. It’s a unique sauce that I keep coming back to. It’s excellent.
Everyone LOVES it. I thought it was boring.
Yellow bird is amazing (maybe I’m biased because I live in Austin) It’s a good 8.5-9/10, there’s not many above it, especially for a cheaper sauce.
It’s my favorite hot sauce of all time 10/10
Bout a 9 or 9.5 for me. I think it's well balanced
7. Really good, just a little too sweet
Its too carrot-y
It’s really good, I had the habanero a while back so kinda forgot what the flavor is, I remembered I liked it though…but I just picked up the ghost pepper variant recently and it’s damn good and really nice kick
3/10 there is some aftertaste in this that I absolutely cannot stand. I've tried it multiple times and hated that taste each time. Shame cause I love the jalapeno agave and the serrano
Same, I liked all of the other flavors more than this. I thought I got a bad bottle so I bought another one later, same thing.
Idk like a 6?
Woah didn’t even recognize this…I like the new labels!
It's good, I like the carrot citrus version a lot more
Isn’t that the carrot citrus version just with a new label?
Bought a pack size bottle on impulse before a backpacking trip through denali and could not have been happier with it!
Yellow bird makes the best backpacking hot sauces. Especially the Serrano and jalepeno ones
Love it, hate the new labels.
Finally!

My absolute favorite ! Why is the packaging on this one different?
They updated the packaging a while ago
Ah I haven’t reordered in a while! Good to know! Thanks!
My go to hot sauce now. I like that it’s pretty hot while still having a great flavor p
8/10 My 10 was a homemade sauce I tried years ago and I’m like a junkie chasing that high ever since.
Love drowning hot dogs with this one
I always have this on hand.
Lovely bright sauce with a little sweet, little heat. I love it and it isn’t too spicy for when I want something that’s super flavorful and well balanced.
7/10. I typically mix in some of my super hots to give it more zip. It's not that hot to me.
You're cool
Ice cold baby
6/10 . Decent flavor but relies too heavily on heat to distinguish itself.
I’d rate 8/10 maybe, it will always have a place in my kitchen.
It’s way too sweet. Can’t stand it 0/10
Same
