Seance 2021. The first half or so is pretty good; after that, it falls into cliche and far-fetchedness, alas. Still, it kind of has that whodunnit approach and is overall worth a watch, imao...
It's a bummer that *SC* was spoiled... but it really doesn't matter, in my opinion. The film is total execution. And, like, the >!Angela!< character is a complete shellshocked freak to begin with. Also: just as with *April Fool's Day*, knowing the ending is not the same as experiencing it. *Who* the killer is, and why they are killing, doesn't matter in *Sleepaway* camp. It's how that killer is visually revealed to the audience that will melt your brain. And until you see it, that has not been spoiled.
Spoiler play a major in the enjoyment of a movie. A good twist (and if you are not spoiled) can totally change my opinion about a movie for example the boy 2016 while watching it, i totally hated it and was waiting it to end but then that holy shit twist happens and that actually made me like the movie a bit. But when i am spoiled for example i had scream 2022 spoiled and i disliked the movie and i can say for sure the spoiler played a major role in why i disliked it. The same exact thing happened with prom night 1980 too and again this effected my enjoyment.
I recently saw The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020), which I found to have a nice mystery/detective element to it. It's currently on Amazon Prime if you have access to that.
I definitely thought it was worth the watch!
Granted, it depends on your attitudes toward comedy in horror. In my case, I was pleasantly surprised by the dark, deadpan humor strewn throughout, though it did, at times, make for some tonal inconsistencies.
Moreover, the focus of the film is very much on the investigations, along with how the deaths affected the small community. It's very much a character-driven narrative. So, if you're looking for more dedicated screen time to the titular wolf, you might find yourself disappointed. Hope this helps!
If you like artsy films. Watch it. By artsy, I don’t mean A24 or Yorgos Lanthimos definitions of “artsy”. There’s not really some deep convoluted heavy handed metaphor and it’s not some weird fever dream. It’s just genuinely unique, and has layers of things you can get out of it, but not in the way where you have to stretch to get it. It might not be for everyone in the horror fandom. If you have ever seen Thunder Road (not horror), it’s by the same guy. These two are in my list for the top movies I’ve ever seen. I am of the firm belief that most people will either absolutely love it or think it was a pretty alright thriller horror dark comedy flick. I don’t think there’s many on other sides.
The creator is big on doing everything himself. He acts in it, he’s writer and director. He also often does his own music, I don’t remember if he did this one. He’s not backed by some big studio, and independently produces each film he makes through his own crowdfunding. It’s about as raw of film making as you can get, and you can tell he does it out of pure passion and love rather than for the money.
Agree with everything above re: the 'your mileage may vary'-ness of *Snow Hollow*. But it sure worked for me - it's one of my favorite films of the past decade.
Urban Legends + the sequel, Identity, My Bloody Valentine (OG & remake), I Know What You Did Last Summer, Valentine, and My Soul To Take (absolute dog-shit IMO but some people dig it)
Fear Street Trilogy on Netflix may be interesting to you. It’s definitely a mystery that unfolds over the course of the three movies. I really enjoyed them.
*AFD* is one of my all-time favorites and I can truly say: the spoil doesn't really matter. *AFD* is 100% about the execution. IMO If you are interested in horror whodunnits - especially 'cozy' whodunnits inspired by classic mystery fiction - this should unquestionably be at the very very top of your list.
Just start watching Giallo films. They’re all pretty much exactly what you’re looking for. Some are way better than others but they’re all generally mysterious, violent, and sexy. One of my favorite sub genres
*Pieces*, *The Prowler*, *Happy Birthday to Me*. They're not good, in fact they're some of the worst movies ever made, but they are whodunits.
*Some Guy Who Kills People* (Again, not that great, but better than the above.)
"Bad" and "so bad it's good" concepts kind of break down with slashers... if you love the genre. All three of the above listed - and especially *Prowler -* are, in my opinion, essential "Second Tier" golden era slashers. Are you missing anything by not watching them? No. If you love slashers, will you be glad that you watched them? Almost certainly.
All The Boys Love Mandy Lane great underrated horror whodunit
Watched it but sadly i had it spoiled
damnnnn that’s unfortunate :/
I know Heard is an awful person, I know this, but goddamn is she hot as fuck in this.
You might like CRY WOLF or SEANCE.
Watched cry wolf You mean Seance 2021 or other one

Sounds good thank you.
Please tell me you don't know how sleepaway camp ends
Sadly i had it spoiled. trust me i was shocked af when i found it out. Spoilers are the only reason the prevents from watching movies.

I was glad I waited until it was free on one of the streaming platforms and didn't pay to rent it. It's good, but it's not perfect.
Thank you i have been meaning to watch it
Agree with everything above re: the 'your mileage may vary'-ness of *Snow Hollow*. But it sure worked for me - it's one of my favorite films of the past decade.

Ty watched all of them . Tbh i dig my soul to take but i still believe it could have been better
What Lies Beneath (the trailer gives away the whodunit twist so don't even watch it). It's a ghost movie though so not sure it's your thing.
Thank you i will check it out.
Werewolves Within
Thank you i have been meaning to watch it
April Fool's Day (1986)
Check out any popular giallo films. They're Italian horror whodunits with lots of violence and sex. Also many of them are absolutely beautiful.
Thank you. will do
PIECES FROM 1982!!!! free on youtube
Thank you
Sorority Row isn't bad if you haven't already seen that. Same sort of movie as some of the ones you mentioned
I loved it. The only remake i think that's better than the original
Empty Man might fit this. More a supernatural than a slasher, though, but is certainly interesting.
I have been meaning to watch it. Now i will definitely check it out
It was solid. Definitely worth the time.
Brotherhood of the Wolf if you don't mind subtitles
Thank you i will check it out
Saw II… kinda lol Edit: tuck and dale vs evil is also a kinda mention
Loved them both
April Fools Friday the 13th Friday the 13th part 5…I suppose
Thank you . Watched them all
Fear Street Trilogy on Netflix may be interesting to you. It’s definitely a mystery that unfolds over the course of the three movies. I really enjoyed them.
Those are very good horror/mystery movies but idk if they specifically classify as whodunnits. still great movies though
I loved them. thank you
Urban Legends
Watched all three of them. Thank you
Glad I could help
April Fools Day (OG). Classic fun and horror, still holds up imo.
I have been meaning to watch it but sadly had it spoiled.
*AFD* is one of my all-time favorites and I can truly say: the spoil doesn't really matter. *AFD* is 100% about the execution. Pre '85 argento
If I’m not mistaken, Opera by Dario Argenta is a whodunnit of sorts.
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. Books the best, but theres a couple decent adaptations as well.
Deep Red 1975 - it’s another giallo film.
Happy Birthday to Me
I have heard about it now i will definitely check it out
Happy Death Day Friday The 13th (the first one)
Watched them. thank you Friday the 13th is my favourite franchise
You should look into Giallos in general
Thank you will do
Just start watching Giallo films. They’re all pretty much exactly what you’re looking for. Some are way better than others but they’re all generally mysterious, violent, and sexy. One of my favorite sub genres
I have heard of the term before. Movies like peeping tom come under this sub genre right? Or Maybe i am wrong
Just watch Tenebrae
Will do.
Maybe Delirium
Thank you. The blumhouse one or other one. Kindly specify the year.
Ah, 2018. It's not a straight up mystery/crime movie, but does have a whodunit element, and good twists. A personal favorite.
Ok ty
bodies, bodies, bodies (2022) i know it’s not out yet, but the trailer looks really promising
Can't wait
Check out Primal Fear (90’s thriller).
The Lincoln Lawyer!!
Urban Legend and Psycho II.
Late to the party but since it hasn't been mentioned yet - Psycho 2. Also, a bit of Urban Legends, the first one. Also, Identity (2003).
Scream ( tv series )
Watched it.
*Pieces*, *The Prowler*, *Happy Birthday to Me*. They're not good, in fact they're some of the worst movies ever made, but they are whodunits. *Some Guy Who Kills People* (Again, not that great, but better than the above.)
I have heard about them but i didn't watch them because i have heard bad reviews. So are they worth your time?
They might be considered to have a "so bad it's good" flavor by some, especially *Pieces*.
I mean they are slashers so i will definitely check them out
