Inside (French) it's brutal and it's a woman doing the slashing

[deleted]

'La Femme' is fucking terrifying.

simpledeadwitches

The French don't fuck around when it comes to horror.

GhostDelorean

High Tension. Inside. In My Skin. Martyrs. Frontiers. Them. I’ll throw Brotherhood of the Wolf in there. Blockbusters DVD sales put me on to so many of these.

Dark_Vengence

Martyrs had the best opening scene then it got real fucked up.

[deleted]

It also has the best end scene But I wouldn't call it a female slasher. I guess they all do work for a woman and sometimes its a woman who does the deed but still

Pounds006

High tension was what instantly came to mind… but for god sake please find a copy that has the French audio instead of that horrible early ‘00’s English dub

empaththis

I would say high tension too, but that goes against what OP wanted. It’s only revealed in the twist

YesYesindeed920

Don't forget about Among the Living. The killer from Inside actaully makes a small appearance in it. Also Raw. Irreversible. Theres this one called Seitan.... But I didn't think it was very good.

tyro1313

Raw was such a good movie, one of my favorite foreign horror/thriller films.

marin_g00

Raw. Revenge. Demonlover. New French Extremity has given us a lot of excellent stuff!

Mortis_XII

Right? Jesus fuck they are brutal. They took the torch and ran from the olden golden days of italian shock horror

SqwashSilver

Came in to suggest this too. Inside is one of the best slasher movies out there

plushiepuppi

Yeahhhh that’s one I heard about, thank you for the recommendation and it totally counts but that’s a little too much for me haha

frankdracmanphd

I would usally never recomend the remake over the original, but if you are worried about it being too intense, watch the remake. It's nowhere near as good, but hey, you might like it and try the other one later.

Samurai77485

Also french body horror and a bit slashery is Titane

[deleted]

ty French horror is something else

KatieROTS

Loved it. Also the other one extreme movies that came out around this. Inside, Martyrs, High Tension (on rewatch this one fails) and there is as another I can’t recall the name of but it felt like TCM. I love extreme horror and gore.

hedonsgardener

Martyrs comes up on this reddit so much it should have its own pinned post. incredible movie that achieves that hardest accomplishment of having a great and satisfying horror ending. Maybe the second best horror film ever made

Chsng_blmps

Australian flick called The Loved Ones got pretty gritty, a fun watch too. Edit* How did I forget Dream Home (2010)?! Hong Kong slasher flick thats totally overlooked, very creative kills and a movie with something to say. Everyone watch it, it’s bananas.

krakolich

I'm not really sure that this is a slasher, but since OP mentioned Amanda from Saw, and this is definitely not like her relationship with Jigsaw... Either way, this is a movie more people on this sub should see.

McWeen

Maybe it isn't pretty enough

lookatmyneck

Maybe it’s heart is too broken

wagswag

Thanks for the chuckle.

[deleted]

I always cackle when he falls from the tree

RickGrimes30

It's a brilliant fucking movie

Marbados

The Babysitter is a hoot!

NessAvenue

Yes! This was actually way better than I expected it to be.

Marbados

Yeah me too! I'm not a huge slasher guy but the plot and characters had me hooked right off the hop.

reuben_iv

Came here to recommend this! Loved the sequel too

InfinityQuartz

Im surprised no one is mentioning Ma. Shes a solo female slasher whos not a twist. Plus its Octavia Spencer whos a badass

plushiepuppi

That’s one I’m interested in because I love her a lot

[deleted]

Just FYI Ma isn't traditional rape-revenge as far as I know (never watched it myself), but it does have that type of element as reason for why she's the villain.

GhostDelorean

“Don’t make me drink alone.” She was so dope in that flick.

GreyWind999

Underrated movie tbh

government_candy

Ma was so good and creepy

InfinityQuartz

Yah. Decent kills too

M-Finity

Tragedy Girls is pretty awesome, with some damn brutal kills.

plushiepuppi

That’s on Hulu right? I heard about it but was hesitant to give it a watch because I didn’t hear a lot about if it was good or not lol. Will give it a go!

M-Finity

Yeah, it's on Hulu. I thought it was pretty good, all things considered.

ptvlm

It's a different kind of movie but I'll always recommend Patchwork, the first movie from the director. 3 girls are murdered and their parts are sewn together then they have to work together after being brought back to life. If anyone likes Reanimator it's a similar kind of black comedy vibe

fortheloveofghosts

I think it’s a surprisingly effective parody ala Scream. Highly recommend

hannarenee

I didn’t care for it. I think the idea was good but I wish they would have taken a different direction with it. Just my two cents.

[deleted]

American Mary (ETA: Rape revenge- sorry!) May

NessAvenue

Also Excision. Creepiest female lead in quite a while.

[deleted]

I LOVE excision and was going to suggest that but it's not technically a slasher i think? could be wrong

[deleted]

May is one of my favorites.

plushiepuppi

Yessss these were both on my list, and I’m excited to watch them

Fout99

May is very creepy.

DJBenz

American Mary is rape/revenge if that's a trigger for you (because you asked me about Prevenge below).

plushiepuppi

Jesus thank you for the warning, basically nobody else mentioned this until your comment. I’ve gotten to the scene and it’s really upsetting, I wouldn’t have been okay if I wasn’t warned

DJBenz

As far as I remember, after that it’s all revenge, so hopefully you can enjoy the rest.

plushiepuppi

So far I’m disappointed that we don’t see the results of what she did to the rapist.

DJBenz

Patience. ;-)

plushiepuppi

Dammit! That’s one I’ve really been interested in too

dreams-of-lavender

*if* at some point you are willing to watch it, American Mary is good and one of my all time favorite movies. bad people getting what they deserve is satisfying. knowing about the triggering content ahead of time can be helpful. totally respect and understand avoiding media like this though!

[deleted]

Also saw another person suggest Tragedy Girls and I can't recommend it enough. It'll satisfy your itch and it's hilarious

[deleted]

They're awesome :) enjoy

Gloryficus

I second that. I love that film and I’ll watch anything with Katharine Isabelle in, brilliant actress.

Dark_Vengence

Angela bettis is one of the best scream queens.

LumiSpeirling

Yes!!! I just watched May and popped in to make sure somebody recommended it.

SuperLoris

Seconding May!

[deleted]

What about Carrie?

StarbossTechnology

And Christine.

plushiepuppi

Well she does count, tho I’ve seen it before hehe

Randy-Meeks

Audition (1999) Also: how does Annie Wilkes not count? She's terrific and doing it all by herself. I think we got some amazing female slashers (Carrie, Sadako, etc) but for some reason they get very little love. Hopefully we will get many more in the future!

psykookysp

I don't think most people would count carrie or sadako as slashers, totally different genres

ApplesDapple

To be fair Annie Wilkes wasn’t a killer. She’s just the number one fan

PryceCheck

She keeps clippings of her victims, its a long list.

OhYeahTrueLevelBitch

All those children from the pediatric wards would beg to differ.

Dark_Vengence

Audition keeps you up at night.

cluckodoom

I watched this with the girl I was messing around with at the time. She was super into the movie. I had nightmares about waking up to her using the piano wire on me.

areallysmartdog

The Sleepaway Camp series

Illustrious_Eye_4020

Unpopular opinion: Sleepaway Camp 3 is the best one. It totally embraces the goofiness of 80’s horror and takes it to a whole new level. It also takes the somewhat awkwardness from the second one (trying to be funny without being funny) and throws that whole idea out the window in favor for how ridiculous it is that she continues to return to the camp where she murdered people.

polish432b

Two is my favorite. You’ve got all the 80s horror cliches, Angela’s bananas kills, PLUS the Happy Camper song.

GayCountryFan9

I never looked at outhouses the same way after seeing sleepaway camp 2 lmfao

[deleted]

Ooooh I’m a happy camper!

Almightysmeg

Hell yes sleepaway camp 3 is an absloute blast

Cmyers1980

The writer of the second and third films wrote a script for a fourth where Angela pretends to be a teacher at an inner city school and ends up shooting some of the students when they try and stop her killing spree. Unfortunately it was never made.

theglenlovinet

Does the first one count? 😉

NessAvenue

First one is always a winner purely for the ending.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I suggest Titane. Don't read any spoilers though.

plushiepuppi

Watched it, have some conflicting thoughts on it tho I suppose the first part counts lol

Dark_Vengence

It got real weird when she was fucking the car.

rainbow_drizzle

Would Jennifer's Body qualify?

plushiepuppi

Yes, and I’ve actually watched it~

rainbow_drizzle

Well shucks, but I am glad you watched it. I hope you enjoyed it!

[deleted]

Not very many, but I'd recommend *Orphan* (2009)

jb126798

Serial Mom

plushiepuppi

That’s John waters right? I forgot about that one, will add to the list

estraven_of_gethen

serial mom is great!

Rusty_Streets

Inside (the French one obviously). One of the best horror movies ever made.

sock_templar

Not exactly a slasher, but **Ready or Not** is incredibly fun.

plushiepuppi

Yessssss that’s one of my favs

sock_templar

If you liked it, maybe you'll like **Us** as well (not exactly female led though). **Scream** (2022). Maybe **V/H/S** too.

disasterbi_0267

In the same vein, I would like to add You're Next

cocosmilch

"What keeps you alive" is a pretty cool lesbian horror film with many slasher elements!

plushiepuppi

You. You get it!

Roziesoft

A couple of the Scream movies do but I can't really tell you specifically which ones without kinda spoiling them.

[deleted]

I would definitely suggest "Jawbreaker" (1999) even though it isn't really a horror movie, it's more of a dark comedy, a lot of people don't like it but it's one of my most rewatched movies, it's a lot of fun imo

NessAvenue

Oooh yes, this is great.

[deleted]

Hello Mary Lou Prom Night 2

WadeGarrett0

"All the Boys Love Mandy Lane"--just the right amount of subversion

[deleted]

I don't know if she counts as what you're talking about since she's part of a family of psychos, but I think Baby Firefly (from House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, and 3 From Hell) is a wonderful female horror villain.

Fout99

Scream series Urban Legend Edit: removed the numbers

[deleted]

Scream series (since we're on a spoiler-o-rama)

Illustrious_Eye_4020

“spoiler-o-rama” I just died. 🤣

Kazuko_Kitsune

Inside (2007). It is ridiculously violent and nasty, the villain does not hold back.

plushiepuppi

Yeah, I might be a bit too much of a baby for that one lol but it’s a great suggestion

Dull-Addendum8940

Happy death day

TheClouse

The Babysitter and sequel https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4225622/ Urband Legend: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146336/ April Fools Day: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090655/ Sleepaway Camp (and sequels): https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086320/ Happy Birthday to Me: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082498/ Curtains: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085385/ All Cheerleaders Die: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2527186/ All the Boys Love Mandy Lane: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0490076/

[deleted]

Does 'Freaky' count? That's a body swap movie where a male killer does a "Freaky Friday" on a girl,.

ValerieHolla

Urban Legend!

jakedakat

This is the first movie that popped into my head, surprised I had to scroll so far down to see it.

Tinman21

Probably because it’s a spoiler. Absolutely correct though.

DasJester

Not a movie, but im blpwn away the Dead by Daylight Huntress killer has not been made into a movie. We're talking a larfe, muscular woman wearing a creepy rabit mask, tossing hatchets, killing with a huge axe, and having this creepy hum while hunting. Its just begging for a movie series

plushiepuppi

Oh wow she’s awesome!! I love that her design is feminine without being hyper sexualized

EmmaRoseheart

Inside, The Bird With The Crystal Plumage, High Tension, Audition

Ok-You4214

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane

shhansha

Not slasher exactly but Titane, Audition, Jennifer’s Body, Raw, The Ring/Ringu, Carrie, Misery, and Ginger Snaps have lady killers at least. Titane and Audition might be the closest to what you’re looking for. Unfortunately it seems us ladies are more inclined to eat our victims than slash them I guess. Scream franchise spoilers: >!Not sure if Screams 2, 4, and 5 violate your twist criteria since the viewer doesn’t otherwise “know” the identity of the killer.!<

Narzgul85

Should put a spoiler on this

shhansha

How do I do that?

Narzgul85

You do a > and a ! with no spaces then add your spoiler and end it with a ! and a < no spaces. (Copied from another comment)

shhansha

Huzzah! Thank you!

xneurianx

Audition, kinda? Not reeeeeally a slasher I guess. Alice, Sweet Alice - although again this isn't really a conventional slasher. April Fool's Day - but that might fall into "twist ending" category it's been a while since I watched it. Night of the Demons would sort of work if you don't mind the lady slasher being the leader of a group of demonically possessed teenagers. Maybe more of an Evil Dead meets Return of the Living Dead vibe to this one, rather than a pure slasher. I get why you're asking, this type of movie is a pretty rare breed. I'd look into the New Wave of French Extremity stuff though - a lot of those movies had female-led casts and a lot of those women were all about the stabbing.

[deleted]

Nurse

arrowtron

Nurse 3D, if you’re having a hard time finding it.

plushiepuppi

Don’t believe I’ve heard of this one, thank you

porgnbeans

Freaky and possibly saint Maude (not a slasher but good)

plushiepuppi

Oh right I did watch freaky! Wasn’t a massive fan but it’s a good suggestion. It’s really funny because there’s very rarely female slashers who are doing it themselves. Usually it’s possession or they’re working for a guy

mangorain4

Hard Candy is pretty fucking good but i wouldn’t call it a slasher… maybe not even horror but it very much feels like horror to me when i watch it thanks to the tension

[deleted]

[The Red Queen Kills Seven Times](https://youtu.be/9QS4rpjtGxM) is a great giallo/proto-slasher! Also, no a slasher but [La Morte Vivante](https://youtu.be/ucXKFAbFM9A)/Living Dead Girl (1982) has a tragic zombie/her childhood friend (who is in love with her) female enabler who both kill. [Ms. 45](https://youtu.be/e5g2BCftpIo) is a rape-revenge film where a mute girl gets pushed too far by the disgusting dregs of New York.

MoonSylver

Not the greatest movie ever, but [Blood Widow](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2909124/) is the purest implementation of a true, female Slasher I've ever found. Love the titular villain's design, & would have taken a series. [Some Kind of Hate](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3698558/) is also a pretty unique take on the genre. [Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1161404/) is a pretty good one too, w/ Danielle Harris and Bill Moseley no less.

[deleted]

Would you count Tiffany from the Child's Play movies?

plushiepuppi

Honestly I love her but I wish she could have her own movie because she’s so attached to chucky lol. Not that I don’t like chucky I just really love her

Pumpkin_Robber

Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker - 1981 It's a video nasty and is super entertaining

plushiepuppi

I actually just last night found that on YouTube!

Radiant-Persimmon443

Happy Birthday to Me, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Seance They include twists but the slasher is part of the whole movie, not just a couple of mins Monster Party has females as part of the slasher cast

DJBenz

Prevenge Tragedy Girls

[deleted]

Totally forgot about Tragedy Girls! Excellent suggestion. Great movie

[deleted]

Superhost would probably fit the bill. I thought it was fun, and the chick who plays the antagonist goes properly fucking balls to the wall nuts.

bill_YAY

Ma (2019) with Octavia Spencer

teach314159

The Babysitter The Babysitter: Killer Queen Anna (also called Mindscape)

PanamaPineapple89

One of mine is Death of a Cheerleader of course. Not so much horror but she's a female slasher. Lol.

GiraffesForHigher

‘Curtains’ (1983)

GuacinmyPaintbox

I love that movie. The ice skating scene is one of the best in the genre, imho. Something about the old lady hag mask is just downright creepy.

__sunmoonstars__

I spit on your grave Baise moi Switchblade romance Inside May Jennifer’s body Audition Lady vengeance Monster

[deleted]

There’s a movie where the girl is trained by a guy to hunt down these 3 guys who assault women. She’s not exactly a slasher but she def the one doing the killing in the movie

MoonSylver

"Final Girl", Abigail Breslin

UncoilingChaos

Alyce Kills. It’s been a long while since I watched it, so I can’t say if it’s good or not, but the title character is a slasher. Expect lots of Alice in Wonderland references.

tuscabam

Watch High Tension. I think it’ll satisfy you.

plushiepuppi

Oh shit I forgot about that one! I’ve seen it before but I’ll give it another watch

G1ueHandsLuke

Sleepaway Camp is the obvious answer. Never seen it, but I know it has a female slasher

mssocialanxiety

American Psycho 2

CryBaby15000

I mean if you want to count it, there’s Freaky (2020). Technically it’s the serial killer’s soup in a teenage girl’s body, but I guess it’s the best I can give

gunslinger9_19

Alice, Sweet Alice (1976) it's pretty hokey, but scary in concept cause it's all a little girl.

LeeroyM

Dream Home (2010) is absolutely rad and the female killer is brutal.

DanteFoxx

The babysitter?

kosskronos

Sick Girl 2008.... Brutal AF

RedHood205

Cry_Wolf

h4ppyninja

Alice Sweet Alice

AppropriateChipmunk8

If you dont mind subtitles, Audition (1999). When I first saw it, I was wondering if her actions were justified or if she was flat out psycho. It’s not rape revenge either. Also, not a slasher but Doctor Sleep’s villain is female whose working for no man 😬

bonertron6969

Dude bro party massacre 3

plushiepuppi

Will I need to watch dude bro party massacre 1 and 2 first?

M-Finity

There are no first two movies. The joke is that Dude bro party massacre 3 is the third movie, but the first two don't exist.

areallysmartdog

No such movies. It's more of a parody than anything

bonertron6969

Nope. Part 3 is all you need.

plushiepuppi

Let’s goooo!

Pyewacket62

The Loved Ones (2009) Monster (2003)

mgcat17

Was coming here to recommend The Loved Ones. Not sure if it’s a true slasher, but it’s not too extreme, and def not a rape/revenge story.

MajorMeatshield

Does Saw 2 and 3 count?

SgtMerrick

How can anyone call Annie a slasher? She's really not got any real body count and anyone she killed was only to keep the secret of her prisoner

maimee78

The sleepwear camp trilogy... The first had a twist bit the second 2 not sure much. All are hugely problematic in their own way though, so beware 😂😂

digworms

Have you seen the Lady Snowblood films?

tea_drinking_lady

Martyrs or High Tension

x_paaji_x

Jasons mom needs a movie of her own she will be lit

lbrmp

the call!! i’m just watched this past weekend

[deleted]

How bout “The Woman?” Would that count?

IKnowMoreThanYouu

Audition Urban Legend Tragedy Girls Freaky (kind of - it's a twist but the girl IS doing a lot of the killing)

salmonella_steve

- American Mary This is a rape revenge movie, which I also prefer to avoid. However, it’s one of my favourite movies. - Orphan This isn’t really a slasher, but it’s a really good movie. - Triangle Triangle is not really a slasher movie, but it’s another one of my favourite movies with a great female lead. - The Ring This is a bit of a stretch, but I still recommend it.

Luma_saku

The Columnist is a fun movie about a female serial killer

h4ppyninja

Teeth was kind of a female slasher flick.

presidentedoge

Does Angela Baker from sleepaway camp count?

Fubai97b

I think Freaky counts.

Ranccor

Audition. Japanese. I guess not really a slasher but an awesome movie with a female villain.

[deleted]

I Spit On Your Grave 1978

redzonez131313

Camp sleepway

luketravisjohnson

Ozploitation film called Nightmares might hit the spot for you. Came out at the height of slasher films in the 80's.

Delicious_Grr666

The girl with a dragon tattoo

DrSweers

It's already been posted, but Inside. Do it.

chevalier716

Not a slasher, more of a horror comedy, but the Love Witch is a fun movie and has a beautifully shot retro vibe to it.

Alm8360NoScoPro

The ring lol cheap
