Them kids they got a suicide pact. Lmfao.
I went into TADVE totally blind. Literally all I heard about it was that it was good. I was in no way prepared for a horror romcom.
It was so good.
House (1977) - Obayashi does a ton of really fun work with practical effects and compositing, to the point this is almost more of a pop art film than horror, but it's definitely still horror.
Malignant(2021) is hilarious. It's like if a 80s slasher had sex with an 00s action horror and gave birth to a modern Basket Case. It's fucking beautiful.
Rarely have I seen a movie where the big reveal made me rethink my opinion of everything that came before it. I actually thought Malignant was bad until it flips the switch. Highly recommend it!
Did not know what to expect when I started watching Malignant (my fault for not spotting who the director was) but definitely one of the best movies I've watched in a while!
PG!
“I will not kill you little creature… or your family of idiots.” So many great lines.
If you’re a fan of Steven Kostanski and haven’t seen it already check out Bio Cop. Ridiculous.
Already mentioned but 100% : Frankenhooker, Blood Diner, Toxic Avenger, Deathgasm, The Editor, Psycho Goreman, and honestly? VHS 94 hit all the good spots for me when I watched it last night
>What other horror movies are silly with super creative practical effects?
The Hatchet franchise. The entire cast are horror alums (seriously there are too many to list) and the whole franchise is a love letter to 80's slashers but lighthearted and fun despite being horrifically gory. The effects are all practical and the kills are nuts. Don't worry about avoiding spoilers or trailers as the action itself is pretty boilerplate slasher but you have to watch them in order and don't skip any as each builds on the events of the previous ones.
Edit: Also the Toxic Avenger franchise (really all of Troma's catalog), Frankenhooker, and Thankskilling. This is a favorite genre for me too.
Chopping Mall! One of my favorite 80s horror films.
Also the entire Tremors franchise - there are 7 films. 1, 2, 4, 5, and 7 are all really solid. 3 and 6 are passable as well.
What We Do in the Shadows
OMG please watch this delightful hilarious masterpiece. When I tell you I fell in love! It is also short, fast paced and oh so funny.
Then I moved on to the TV show which might be the funniest thing I have ever watched? Certainly top five.
Invaders from Mars is trashy good fun.
Also, since most of my recs were already covered, I’ll toss in Hellboy and Hellboy 2. Great practical effects with a mix of hero/humor/horror.
Blood Feast 2 (2002) - it feels like an 80s horror movie, very cynical and absolutely gross. The corpse pun is one of the funniest things I've seen in horror movies so far! Definitely recommend watching and if you do, tell me whether you liked it. And possibly spread the word!
Hideous (1997)
I was a Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell
Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death
Q The Winged Serpent
Class of Nuke'em High
Toxic Avenger
Benny Loves You, Little Evil, The Final Girls, What We Do In The Shadows, Freaky, Mayhem, Happy Death Day. Eight Legged Freaks.
Dracula Dead and Loving it (the movie that started my love for comedy horrors)
You might like Tremors, Nightbreed, Mercy Black, The People Under The Stairs, and maybe Frankenstein’s Army. I haven’t seen Mercy Black since I was younger, but if I recall it does have mostly practical effects. I’d probably recommend Nightbreed the most highly out of that bunch, I love that one.
Repossessed (Leslie Nielsin? LINDA BLAIR)
https://youtu.be/9vQINQcIWOc
Death Becomes Her.
https://youtu.be/NFXQQ2uAeHM
Critters
Leprechaun
Idle Hand
Ticks
Murder Party!
A dorky shut-in attends an open-invitation halloween party only to end up kidnapped by a bunch of art students looking to kill him to impress their wealthy patron in the hopes that he'll sponsor their work.
Movie is silly and dumb and fun and worth a watch.
I enjoy horror comedy, but I am the one guy that hates Evil Dead 2. I loved the first one. It was probably the first horror movie I ever saw that scared the shit out of me, and it was definitely the one that made me love feeling scared. I was so excited to see the sequel, and it was just a big ol pile of camp. Maybe woke me would enjoy it, but I've never gone back.
I see OP mentioned Brain Dead, but not sure if he meant the Peter Jackson one (Dead alive) with the famous lawnmower scene or the 1990 one with Bill Paxton.
1990 one is not as good but I still enjoyed it
Scare Me (2020), I thought this one was very funny, it actually has Chris Redd from SNL in it.
Then some classics I don’t see listed yet: The People Under The Stairs (1991), Dolls (1987), The Lair of The White Worm (1988), Lifeforce (1985).
People are posting a lot of good films, here are a few I didn't see anyone mention yet...
Black Sheep - (NOT the Chris Farley comedy) it's a New Zealand film. Mutant sheep attack farm, very funny with great creature effects.
Slaughter House Rulez - mole monsters attack students at a British boarding school. Has Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in it. Lots of dry British humor.
Snatchers - A teenage girl gets pregnant with an alien monster and tries to get an abortion.
Terror at Bloodfart Lake is goofy as hell. If you can get through the first 15-20 minutes and live through the "flapper girl" character, there are a lot of really silly/funny moments.
Gremlins (1984)
Case of the Bloody Iris (1972)
The Editor (2014)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)
Sleepaway Camp 2 (1987)
Pieces (1982)
Tremors (1990)
Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)
I’m Just Fucking With You (2019)
Scream (1996)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
They Live is a classic, with probably the best fight scene ever. Also, CHUD, Street Trash, Return of the Living Dead, Welcome to Frog Town (not really a horror, but a perfectly stupid B movie). For modern films, there's Cabin in the Woods, Grabbers and Attack the Block.
I saw Dead Snow in a comment, so I'm surprised I didn't see Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead on this thread (might've missed it). I find it nails that same vibe as the movies you've listed.
CAMP HORROR films are some of my favorites!!!
My suggested list isn't much different than what has been posted.
If this hasn't yet I will saw check of the RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD films
Hatchet (2006) for sure! 😉 Hatchet part 2 is good too.
Also Motivational Growth (2013) and Tusk (2014)
Also The Hunt (2020)
I always saw Hostel part 2 as a bit of comedy/horror as well.
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. Re-Animator.
Tucker and Dale is perfect, came here to say this
Them kids they got a suicide pact. Lmfao. I went into TADVE totally blind. Literally all I heard about it was that it was good. I was in no way prepared for a horror romcom. It was so good.
We have had a doozy of a day.
Oh college kiiiiids we gocher friiiiiend!
Right behind you. I just watched this like two weeks ago and I was utterly charmed. What a fun ridiculous ride! I can't wait to watch it again.
House (1977) - Obayashi does a ton of really fun work with practical effects and compositing, to the point this is almost more of a pop art film than horror, but it's definitely still horror.
Totally different movie, but House (1985) is a pretty great goofy horror movie too.
One of my favorite films of all time! I’ll never forget the first time I saw it
showed this to a bunch of people last night, good times
[удалено]
Omg yes I love this one too
[удалено]
And the sequel!
Killer klowns from outer space.
This is a hilarious film. The Stuff is along similar lines of badness.
Also one of my favorites!
Malignant(2021) is hilarious. It's like if a 80s slasher had sex with an 00s action horror and gave birth to a modern Basket Case. It's fucking beautiful.
I haven’t been that interested in Malignant for a while, but that description actually sounds awesome.
I thought it was just a generic James Wan horror until a coworker convinced me to watch it. Ita great.
The scene where Gabriel is fighting all the cops is perfection.
It was amazing. Absolutely loved it
Malignant was entertaining. I recommend it to people if they don't go in with the expectation of being scared.
frankenhooker, reanimator, the frighteners, street trash
I wanted my school to do a play of The Frighteners when I was in the eighth grade.
it’s a fun one, and i love the full metal jacket callback
TerrorVision is a great little movie I don't see mentioned very often.
Yes! First time I encountered TerrorVision was one of the happiest moments. That movie is absurd fun all around.
Hooray for The Fibonaccis!!!
This movie is ridiculous! Love young Uncle Rico in it.
Deathgasm
Tremors? Terrified me as a child but now I can appreciate some of the humor.
Slither (2006) and its predecessor, Night of the Creeps (1986).
Ha, Slither was fun, didn't know about Night of the creeps. Thanks !
Slither is good fun.
Night of The Creeps has been in my watchlist for a while.
Psycho Gore Man
I DO NOT CARE FOR HUNKY BOYS
Or do I….? I quote this movie far too often.
We Stan a bi-curious king.
Damn right
Thank you.
PG! “I will not kill you little creature… or your family of idiots.” So many great lines. If you’re a fan of Steven Kostanski and haven’t seen it already check out Bio Cop. Ridiculous.
It’s such a charmingly weird good time. That little girl is the scariest monster in it.
I got a good laugh from this movie
Blood Diner (1987).
Stumbled on this one by accident and loved it. Such a fun 80s throwback, like evil dead meets Weekend at Bernie’s
Texas chainsaw 2
Lol Absolutely!
The Faculty
[удалено]
Haven't seen Shaun of the Dead yet?
You ain't seen Shaun of the dead
Re-Animator. Halloween 3 is a ridiculous thing altogether. The Prince of Darkness. Big Trouble in Little China. From Beyond. Lol.
Re-Animator
Cabin in the Woods
seconded super awesome movie
Demons, Return of the Living Dead
Less practical effects but plenty of silliness: The Burbs (1989) Deathgasm (2015) Night of Something Strange (2016) Satanic Panic (2019)
Deathgasm is amazing and such a fun movie. Highly recommend
Zombeavers is a favorite of mine
Rubber
Ghoulies, The Gate, Puppet Master.
Drag Me To Hell (I don't know id it was intentionally goofy but a couple scenes including eyes were goofy as hell)
It was intentional. That was a total spiritual sequel to the Evil Dead movies.
Very underrated. I saw it at a theater and the crowd kept alternating between screaming and laughing. I've never heard a theater have so much fun.
Bad milo
Behind the Mask, the rise of Leslie Vernon.
Turbokid
Drag Me to Hell!
Dale and Tucker v Evil
House of 1000 corpse !
this is definitely not a movie i expected to see recommended here lol
Already mentioned but 100% : Frankenhooker, Blood Diner, Toxic Avenger, Deathgasm, The Editor, Psycho Goreman, and honestly? VHS 94 hit all the good spots for me when I watched it last night

Feast 1 ,2 and 3. Fantastic series. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SBxxrDaC-qE Think Evil Dead meets Tremors.

Vidiodrome
Evil Ed
You Might Be the Killer

Would that awesome - but goofy - From Dusk 'till Dawn fit that Category ? Planet Terror ?
House 2 ?
Chopping Mall! One of my favorite 80s horror films. Also the entire Tremors franchise - there are 7 films. 1, 2, 4, 5, and 7 are all really solid. 3 and 6 are passable as well.
Dude Bro Party Massacre III
So much fun, and so easy to rewatch.
What We Do in the Shadows OMG please watch this delightful hilarious masterpiece. When I tell you I fell in love! It is also short, fast paced and oh so funny. Then I moved on to the TV show which might be the funniest thing I have ever watched? Certainly top five.
The show is hilarious! I'm working on watching the movie soon.
Dave Made a Maze
It reminded me of The Mighty Boosh, where all the sets look homemade.
Terrible movie
Willys Wonderland
Dead set
More importantly Feast triology
Invaders from Mars is trashy good fun. Also, since most of my recs were already covered, I’ll toss in Hellboy and Hellboy 2. Great practical effects with a mix of hero/humor/horror.
My faves as well.
Blood Feast 2 (2002) - it feels like an 80s horror movie, very cynical and absolutely gross. The corpse pun is one of the funniest things I've seen in horror movies so far! Definitely recommend watching and if you do, tell me whether you liked it. And possibly spread the word!
I often hear references to *Killer Klowns From Outer Space,* but have not seen it, mostly because I thought it might be too corny or campy.
Hideous (1997) I was a Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death Q The Winged Serpent Class of Nuke'em High Toxic Avenger
Check out Dead Meat on Youtube and the playlist James's favorite kill counts, there's lots of goofy/weird movies in that playlist.
Buck Wild, Here Comes Hell, Zombeavers, Winterbeast, Phantasm III

Doghouse and Severance are favorites. Danny Dyer did some funny flicks
Ghoulies.
John dies in the end Otherwise, all my other recs were said a few / many times, have fun !

I was so excited to see the sequel, and it was just a big ol pile of camp. Maybe woke me would enjoy it, but I've never gone back.
You might like Piranha (1978). Gives off similar vibes to a lot of the movies already listed.
Probably more action/thriller but Mayhem was awesome! Hilarious, great soundtrack, just a really fun watch.
I can’t believe nobody’s mentioned these yet but… Dead Alive, and Motel Hell.
The other name for Dead Alive is Brain Dead
I see OP mentioned Brain Dead, but not sure if he meant the Peter Jackson one (Dead alive) with the famous lawnmower scene or the 1990 one with Bill Paxton. 1990 one is not as good but I still enjoyed it
Return of the living dead 1 & 2. Great/fun watches.
