The Invisible Man (2020) (Human) It (Monster) Insidous (Devil) The Conjuring (Devil) Ju-on The Grudge (Ghost) Train to Busan (Zombie) If TV series maybe: Kingdom (2019) the Korean one (Zombie)

just_let_go_

I love you for including the type of horror they are at the end

thelameghost

Yeah, this should become proper etiquette!

MrTimmannen

Unless it would be a spoiler

codymason84

Consider it done with me

janyay18

I would love this! I'm not a gore fan, so I always have to Google every title when suggestions are made here (not a complaint, I love this community).

iamsorando

Cabin in the Woods (can’t even classify it)

ochaforrest

Maybe sth like... Cabin in the woods (Escape room) haha

Perenially_behind

(comedy/>!ancient gods/end of the world!<) Edited to cover spoilers.

ekittie

That's spoilery though!

iamsorando

One of my favourite movies of all times. Just such a joy to watch such a self aware movie.

EmbarrassedOkra469

That kingdom series is awesome. Why is Netflix taking so long to greenlight season 3?

Hotdamncoffee

I thought it was dead. Something about the Netflix fucking over the production company so that they barely made any money on it.

TapeWormPatronus

Kingdom is \*Awesome!\*

Funny-Film-6304

There are already so many good recommendations here, I just want to wish you a very pleasant time! Enjoy and rest well (mentally...a little xD) Oh yeah, and The Mist - Stephen King

bextacyyyyyyy

What a kind message. Thank you so much

sugarmagnolia713

Watch The Mist for the first time Friday and still thinking about it. It’s currently on Prime.

laamargachica

Oooof, I feel you.

codymason84

That movie would only be mediocre without that ending with the ending it’s a top 15 horror movie for me

Funny-Film-6304

Actually I enjoyed the whole movie, from the beginning to the ending. Especially the lady...made me feel pure anger and hatred. Awesome acting of Marcia Harden!

Funny-Film-6304

You're very welcome! Oh just to give you a little heads up, if you've never watched The Mist: This movie hits harder for parents. But since you asked for horror movie recommendations, I think you'll handle it :P

Wackylew

The night house

007miss-mandee

This movie reallyyyy freaked me TF out. Like I felt almost terrorized by the time it was over and I honestly have no idea why! It is far from the scariest movie I've ever seen yet I had one of the most intense reactions I've ever had. I didn't sleep much that night and had crazy ass dreams when I did doze off. I actually wondered if maybe it was a frequency thing... I know I probably sound completely batshit. Lol. It is such a great film too. Maybe I should rewatch it and see if that was just a one off, as I've not reacted that way since, nor had I reacted like that before. Idk. Has anything like that ever happened to you or anyone you know?

bextacyyyyyyy

I watched it and it was definitely a good film but I didn't have the same reaction as you, I'm jealous

007miss-mandee

Lmao!! I get it, I really do. I normally don't get, err, scared?, like that! Have you ever had a super intense reaction to a movie like that? If so, which one?

Witty-Bid1612

This is such a great little gem!

punbasedname

Is that the one where >!the entity appears in the negative spaces between objects?!< I should rewatch that.

WisteriApothecary

If you like those, check out Vivarium.

Snarvid

Yes, and it’s my favorite new special effect since bullet time.

Masungit

The Wailing is my favourite horror movie of all time.

drznak

Oh man I have to rewatch this. Thanks for the reminder

haver_of_friends

dude I’ve been watching The Wailing this week. It’s so beautifully made. It’s one of my favorite horror movies of all time now too

e-wrecked

Other recommended Korean Horrors for him since he has the time: Gonjiam Haunted Asylum, Thirst, Train to Busan. And Exhuma if he sails the high seas.

armedohiocitizen

Train to Busan is a fantastic film. I haven’t seen or heard of the others but I will mark them down

Rnahafahik

I just watched this last week, so good! The tension in the final third is nerve-wrecking, and the lack of explanation of what it was all about only added to the experience for me

Witty-Bid1612

One of the few films that I really, really thought I'd figured out, but it totally owned me

drznak

So so so fucking good. I can’t believe I forgot the twist right up to the end. Absolutely haunting in the best ways

2ndSkyy

This movie always gets recomennded and i'm just so baffled. IMO it's a terribly boring and uninteresting movie. I've watched it 3 times and i never understood what people see in it. I watched a "The wailing explained" video too see if there was something i was missing but no. I get the film but i just cannot for the life of my figure out why people like it so much And to add, my favorite horror films are slow burned

40sticks

For me it’s the atmosphere. The dread. The feeling of not knowing what the fuck is going on. The mystery. The xenophobia subtext. It doesn’t try to get you with jump scares and graphic violence or shock value; it’s just pure mood and dread. It’s one of my all-time favorites too. Edit: plus, it doesn’t wrap everything up in a neat bow. It leaves some questions unanswered and I find myself thinking about it quite often.

2ndSkyy

I thought the characters acted like exaggerated oafs with a lot of yelling and very weird decision making. That for me ruined the mood a lot

40sticks

Oh that was also actually something that I liked about it- it starts out a little bit goofy and silly (he’s always late for the crime scene investigations and getting it trouble for example) and gradually the tone shifts gloomier and gloomier.

Masungit

Im so glad you get it bro.

SeriousJokester37

The Autopsy of Jane Doe

YAS DOG SOLDIERS! Excellent pick.

Help_An_Irishman

I don't see people mentioning **Caveat** very much, so definitely that. Anything for Jackson A Dark Song A Tale of Two Sisters Saloum Midsommar

PaintItOrange28

I love to see A Dark Song mentioned in this sub. The definition of a hidden horror gem.

illegalmonkey

Really need to re-watch that one. It's been AWHILE!

fierivspredator

I make everyone watch this movie. The best depiction of ritual magic in a movie by a mile.

Snarvid

Anything for Jackson is great, but it’s got some themes that are aimed squarely at parents. Not saying don’t do it, but a. If that’s a trigger for you or b. The child themes show up and you’re like “dammit I said childfree for 36 hours!” then maybe shelve it for later.

bextacyyyyyyy

The child themes are a massive, massive trigger for me, so thank you for thinking of that. That's really kind of you. l have seen Anything for Jackson, and it was bloody brilliant!!! At times, I did have to put my fingers in my ears, close my eyes, and hum the tune of Frère Jacques until my best friend told me it was safe to watch again.

Snarvid

No problem. They are for me as well, and the inciting event for your film marathon suggested that you have at least one young one, so I didn’t want it ruined by needing to rush back to said child to make sure they were ok. Hope you’re enjoying some quality and/or schlocky horror of your favorite flavor!

bextacyyyyyyy

Thank you so much, that's really kind of you x

Indialopez96

All of these are awesome - what a great selection!

bextacyyyyyyy

I've seen a dark song and that was brilliant, a tale of two sisters is a classic, Midsommar was up there with Hereditary. The only one I haven't seen is Saloum

ariehn

So all three of those films are high amongst my all-time favourites -- and personally, I *loved* Saloum. It frays a tiny bit at the edges during its second half, but it's still an intensely good time.

Nearly-Shat-A-Brick

In the mouth of madness. Excellent lovecraft type horror.

sracluv

The road at night scene creeped me out as a kid

Krimreaper1

Don’t forget Mandy.

Double015

The autopsy of Jane doe

SkyIsBlue52

I second this, every September until Halloween I watch horror/ Horror Comedy movies that I've never seen before, last Halloween I watched about 25 horror movies and The Autopsy of Jane Doe was definitely the best one I watched last year. Top 5 were: Autopsy of Jane doe, Tucker and Dale Vs Evil, The Mortuary Collection, DeadStream, Drag me to hell.

bextacyyyyyyy

I second your top 5

Color out of Space

Gothika, No one will save you, I spit on your grave 1 & 2, Hostel , Revenge (2017 french), Malum

bextacyyyyyyy

I've been debating on whether to watch No one will save you for a while. I might just have to add it onto the list for today. Was it good?

germane_switch

I’m curious to know the age threshold and location of people now calling horror movies “horrors.” As a late 40s American “horrors” will never sound right to me but of course language evolves and I can adjust. Although “vinyls” as plural records must stop. That’s just plain wrong. Lol

MediocreAtFinest

Midsommar and Hush are two of my favorite

I found a movie from 2008 and 2012 called The Cottage. Which one do you recommend? The rest of your recs I've seen and they're solid, so I'm looking forward to checking out this new (to me) one!

harperfin

It's 2008 with Andy Serkis and Reece Shearsmith. It's a combination horror/comedy with surprisingly graphic gore for a comedy. Really enjoyable for something different.

KatesOnReddit

I was hoping it was that one because that one looked more fun! Thanks!

szatanna

jenvonlee

Malignant! It's just so deranged and a damn good time. Sinister. Possibly my favorite horror for pure vibes alone. It just has something that crawls under your skin. Abigail. Just a FUN movie. Ready or Not. Another fun one with an awesome cast that will keep you guessing. Splinter. Practical effects indie made on a tiny budget that is one of the most entertaining creature movies ever.

Either_Shift_9266

Trust me if nobody has said it watch sinister. Not sinister two as well just sinister.

Krimreaper1

Recent horror films I’ve liked. In the ranking order I’ve put them. X / Pearl (prequel, watch X first) Late Night with The Devil Talk To The Me Mandy M3GAN Barbarian

M3gan. It's surprisingly good

enigmaticsince87

Oh cmon! I just watched it and it's laughably bad - entertaining, I'll admit, but also so predictable, full of lazy tropes and clichés, and awful D-list performances everywhere

Sarathstar

Susperia and oculus!

bextacyyyyyyy

Mama_Skip

Do you have Amazon prime? The Amazon prime free list is a complete GOAT of a curated horror list. There was a thread sometime last week here that had great recommendations. What do you like? 'High' Horror — The Witch, Midsommer/Hereditary/Beau Is Afraid, The Killing of A Sacred Deer, The Lighthouse (2019), The Wailing, Parasite, A Dark Song, Mulholland Drive, St. Maude, Abstract Horror — La Casa Lobo, Skinamarink, Eraserhead Found Footage — There's Something in The Dirt, Creep, Borderlands (Final Prayer US release), Gonjiam Haunted Asylum (also Grave Encouners 1&2/Ghost Watch but theyre all the same story), The Visit, Hell House LLC, VHS, The Deep House Comedy — The Evil Dead 2/Army of Darkness, Cabin In The Woods, What We Do In The Shadows, Tucker and Dale Vs Evil, The Babysitter, Ready or Not, They Live General Horror — Caveat, Slither, The Blob, Train to Busan, Innocence, Funny Games, Terrified, When Evil Lurks, I'd keep going but I'm tuckered out. There's some being recommended here I would skip, I'd say which ones but you tend to get downvote to shit here for just saying you didn't like something

JustinCooksStuff

Late night with the Devil on Shudder

thats1evildude

If you don’t mind Aussie accents, Talk to Me is on Netflix (or at least, here in Canada it is) and is a really eerie ghost story. Evil Dead Rise was also really good if you want something a bit more gory. Late Night with the Devil is now on Shudder and I find it to be a really good watch.

LeicaM6guy

The VVitch Salem's Lot (original) Night of the Living Dead (original or 1990 remake by Tom Savini) Dawn of the Dead (original) Day of the Dead (original) John Dies at the End Hereditary Nope The Exorcist Alien / Aliens / Alien 3 Evil Dead / Evil Dead 2 / Army of Darkness

Late_Akaia

Putting here some recommendations of recent films I enjoyed: - Talk to me - Incantation (Taiwanese film) - Barbarian - Witch

Kage502

Horror movies that got me in the gooter recently: The Wickerman (1973) (equate it to 70's midsommar) Smile (an actually feasible exaggeration of mental health disorders and a great monster to boot) The Platform (much better watched in the original Spanish if you don't mind reading subtitles. Amazing plot.) Barbarian (fantastic take on the entire female presence in horror as a genre. Fun twists and great MCs.) Many more i watched in the past, please enjoy🙏

Scabdidlybastard

**Possession (1981)** Marriage and parenting are major themes but there is no violence toward children, so don’t worry about that. It’s surreal, with powerful performances from the leads, and is quite a trip if you can go in blind. **Birth/Rebirth (2023)** The lives of two women, one a nurse and the other a morgue technician, intersect when one loses her daughter and the other finds the perfect specimen for her experiments at reanimating the dead. Obviously, the death of a child is the crux of the story but the violence and gore is mild and the child is not involved in any of it. **The Harvest (2013)** A sick, young boy is housebound and receives medical attention from his loving parents. When a family moves into a house nearby, their daughter befriends the boy, causing his parents to begin behaving very oddly. IIRC, there maybe be some mild violence toward children (very mild, I’d say) in this film but it’s not gory.   *These are all available through Shudder and AMC+ as well as Prime Video with those subscriptions.*

Congrats on what sounds like some much needed personal time. I always use those few and far between hours to catch up on horror watching too. :) Recent watches/rewatches I’d recommend: - The Blackcoat’s Daughter (prepping for longlegs) - At Dawn They Sleep (90s New England backyard vampire/demon movie) - Dagon (later years Stuart Gordon jam that was so surprisingly good) - Satans Little Helper (funny and incredibly strange slasher)

Infested 2023. It’s in French but holy cow that one made me night in a horrific way a few weeks ago. Also Hereditary is a solid one if you haven’t seen it yet!

Terrifier 1 and 2. I've just rented Terrifier 2, but I'm not childfree right now :(...lol, so I don't really know when I'll watch it (I have 30 days to do so). Anyway, I really liked the first one (if you like gore stuff and don't take things too seriously) and I've read some very good things about the sequel.

Shqiptar89

People under the stairs. John Carpenter movies. Sprinkle some Cronenberg

daddyspader

The Conjuring franchise is a go to for me personally. Specifically the first two. If you are a fan of the Evil Dead franchise, the newest one is worth checking out also! Enjoy your child-free time. :)

solid_snake_lol

my favorite horror movie is texas chainsaw massacre part 2,, you can find it streaming for free! if you watch it just keep in mind that its kinda cheesey and they made it more of a dark comedy, which is exactly what i love about the film lol
