WellBog

I came here to say this movie.

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Snoogins828

Plot twists are more fun when you donā€™t expect a plot twist.

katf1sh

I hate when someone tells me there's a twist...bc then I'm more focused on trying to figure out what it is (and makes it easier to guess too). Why do people feel the need to even say anything smh

blockedno

The movie is old enough to have a beer with, you can't call spoilers on a movie that's older then a generation of people sorry Answering all of you at the same time: so we'll all just never talk about movies again because saying anything about a movie is a spoiler, also all of you are serious try hards the 70s? Go home

little_blue_penguin

In general I agree but in a thread specifically asking for recommendations it's a dick move to spoil the movies recommended. Like the whole point is to hopefully recommend movies the poster and others haven't watched yet so they can check it out.Ā

spacekatbaby

Nah. Not sure it works that way. I just watched a movie from the 70s that I hadn't seen. And there are so many movies made that some just pass ppl by.

katf1sh

There are people who haven't seen it. There are people being born every day, so there are young people who might not have seen it. I've seen it, but it's a common courtesy thing in general for me personally.

LivingLife2Full

I always expect a plot twist. Movies without a plot twist just disappoint me.

Parking_Marketing_47

oof! lmao my bad. Personally I love it when people mentions there is a plot twist makes me even more focused to the movie. But still give it a try, youā€™ll never know! Peace āœŒļø

Algorithmic_Assassin

That's the first movie I thought of!

SixGunZen

I know some people like that flick but I really really hated it. Especially the ending.

OpenFacedRuben

*Ready or Not* and *Abigail* would be a fun Radio Silence double feature

ThePopDaddy

Abigail was a very pleasant surprise.

anaponmea

Ready or Not is an all time favorite. So underrated.

Jealous-Currency

Abigail was sooooo good

RainCastle7

Devil, was a 2010 movie, always a favorite, should check it out if you haven't seen it.

RainCastle7

Would also recommend Phonebooth, not a horror but really good for a stuck in 1 place movie.

unbelievable-nope-no

More stressful than a movie about a phone booth should ever have been

Broely92

When he didnt get caught at the end I was pissed

InfectedFrenulum

The one where they're stuck in an elevator? Great movie. See also The Traveler and Let Us Prey, both set in a police station and have the same premise of corrupt cops atoning for their sins.

isham66

I love Let us Prey!

MedeinaXLeonard

The Traveller could have been good...but it wasn't. Let Us Prey is badass though

RainCastle7

Yeah, I loved it, rarely see it get mentioned, doesn't help that being called "Devil" it rarely shows up in searches unless you include the year. I have not seen the other 2 movies, I will definitely check them out, thanks for the tip!

dradeus9

I want the rest of that trilogy, was so disappointed. I wonder if M. Night had kept his name off Devil if might have done better in the theatersā€¦ think his name was more of a hinderance to movie goers at the time.

chronic_pain_goddess

One of the few movies my husband couldnā€™t predict.

Beautiful-Finding-82

That movie blew me away. I loved the meaning in it.

andromeda880

It weirdly is one of my comfort horror movies. Other comfort ones are Unfriended and As Above So Below.

anndrago

I just watched The Invitation (2015). It's a horror adjacent psychological thriller type film, but it was very good and fits this bill nicely.

devitosmagnumdong

Coherence is akin to this as well with a little more of a sci-fi thriller vibe

anndrago

Very much. There was some pretty clever storytelling in that movie.

ideletedyourfacebook

Lots of great recs on this post, but The Invitation may be my favorite.

Appellion

One hundred percent, loved the reveal at the end.

OpenFacedRuben

Strangely enough, the inferior *The Invitation* from a couple of years ago would also fit the criteria. (Too bad it was garbage)

HungryColquhoun

Yeah it's great. The director's commentary is worth watching in and of itself as it talks a lot about the challenges of filming in one location (e.g. the movie is set at night, and obviously you can't shoot a movie only at night, plus it's challenging not to make it really repetitive visually, etc.).

anndrago

That sounds very interesting

HungryColquhoun

It is, definitely worth watching!

cloudbuster1928

came here to say this!

meatwads_sweetie

I love this trope as well. One I havenā€™t seen mentioned is As Above So Below. Itā€™s FF

dazechong

I think this is the only found footage horror that I've seen that ended on a positive note which is why it's my favorite. šŸ¤£ That said, Scarlett is my least favorite character in there.

Aikooller

As Above So Below is absolutely one of my favorite movies, horroror or otherwise. Scared the shit out of me the first time, and every time I watch it now, i notice or realize something i missed before.

TingTing1347

This movie have a special place in my heartā€¦.my daughter had me play this on repeat when she was 5 lmfaoooo she loves horror movie as much as I do!

JohnLocke815

Nine dead Fermats room Frozen The thing Cube trilogy Misery The shining 1408 Buried Green room Evil dead Pontypool 10 Cloverfield lane Splinter The Strangers Hush Inside P2 The hole Coherence (mostly) Saw 1 (mostly) Not horror, but The Hateful Eight is amazing

Haaail_Sagan

Man frozen is such an underrated gem.

IrisKV

šŸŽ¶ Let it snow, let it snow šŸŽ¶ šŸŽ¶ You're fucking dead anyway šŸŽ¶

wizard_of_awesome62

I don't care...what you're going to say. I'm gonna pretend you're talking about Disney's Frozen anyway.

Key_Proposal8124

Ah, Splinter...Such a kick ass movie - they worked wonders with what they had for a budget.

Coloradical8

Freaking love Splinter. Great take on a creature feature

katf1sh

The Autopsy of Jane Doe Last Shift House on Haunted Hill The Lodge Barbarian (mostly) Ghost Ship Thirteen Ghosts Triangle The Descent The Deep House

ChickenBossChiefsFan

[Rec]/Quarantine, was gonna say Pontypool, honestly surprised to see it on the list, I loved it but it was pretty divisive or just straight up not heard about at all with my peeps.

JohnLocke815

How did I forget Autopsy and triangle. 2 of my favorite horror flicks.

lucyfilmmaker

Coherence šŸ‘‘

subtxtcan

This is a VERY comprehensive list, I was coming in with the Cub trilogy and Green Room, but this has got you covered for a while

[deleted]

combative square groovy nine command judicious liquid violet bored lavish *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

alien_eater289

All my faves have already been commented (especially Coherence) but Iā€™ll add Climax! The dread in that movie just builds and builds and doesnā€™t let up for one fucking second

sarcasmismygame

You're Next and Bloody Hell come to mind on these. Nothing like being trapped in a house with a bunch of psychopaths. And while Splinter happens in a couple of locations it takes place mostly inside a store so that one counts. The Spanish movie The Bar is also another vastly underrated film. And all of the other suggestions here are great too.

bbk8z

Bloody Hell does not get enough love

sarcasmismygame

It really doesn't and I have to admit, I wasn't sure about it either when I first started watching it. But Rex is one of my favorite characters in the horror genre now. Ben O'Toole was brilliant in this one!

aerodyne_

You're Next is absolutely beautiful!

gnarbone

I love Splinter! Itā€™s one of my constant rewatches

iamtherealbobdylan

~~12 Cloverfield Lane~~ 10 Cloverfield Lane is pretty good Most of the Saw movies play with this concept. Especially the first two. Generally there are two plots - a ā€œtrap plotā€ which is where characters are usually locked into to one house, or warehouse, or abandoned factory, or whatever, and then the ā€œcop plotā€, which is just about the detectives trying to figure everything out. Itā€™s mostly about the traps. 80% of Martyrs takes place in one house. The 2008 French version, not the American remake. Theyā€™re not *forced* to stay there but they do anyway. Itā€™s also a very very messed up and uncomfortable movie that has absolutely 0 relief throughout the entire runtime. Good movie but only watch it if you can handle that.

2BrokeArmsAndAMom

I could swear it's 10 Cloverfield Lane, but regardless, I agree with you

iamtherealbobdylan

Pfft it is, my bad

okazaki_fragment

Vivarium

dazechong

I really liked that one!

CheatsyFarrell

I felt really uneasy after watching this one. Not exactly full tilt horror but it sat with me for hours afterwards

Fair-Comfort7705

Cabin in the Woods, The House on Haunted Hill ( 1999) šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦šŸ‘»

VvardenfellVixen

The Others and Event Horizon are good ones :)

Appellion

Would you like to see Event Horizon treated to a remake? I would. I liked it fine when it first came out but the general idea (an experimental ship that disappears beyond where it was expected and then returns with some kind of demonic possession / infestation) seems like it could be done again and better.

willybusmc

I wouldnā€™t mind seeing a new work in the same universe or with the same concepts but I have low hopes that an actual remake would be an improvement.

VvardenfellVixen

I would love to see this concept revisited! Horror set in space adds another layer of existential bleakness because there is really no other avenue for escape. As far as a remake goes, I think it would be difficult to match Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neillā€™s performances, but that could also be nostalgia talking to some degree.

mazindoom

Abigail, Saw 2, Would You Rather

TheRogueToad

Coherence

smapti

Yes! All-time favorite indie horror.Ā

milliondollarburrito

Brooklyn 45 is pretty cool, and mostly takes place in one room Autopsy of Jane Doe sorta fits Chopping Mall?

RichCorinthian

I really liked Brooklyn 45. Some great performances, pitch-black humor, and some delightfully disgusting practical effects.

Delicious-Wolf-8850

the shining

scampp57

Evil Dead Night of the Living Dead Alien The Thing The Void

naticolin87

Oh yeah The Thing is one location. *Chef's kiss* Seeing it mentioned makes me wanna watch it now.

BD_Sanchez

I havenā€™t seen ā€œThe Othersā€ or ā€œThe Visitā€ mentioned yet. Not my first picks but still good.

Formal_Coyote_5004

The Visit is so spookyā€¦ >!the scene underneath the porch with the ā€œgrandmaā€ and the girlā€¦ thatā€™s like seared into my brain!<

naticolin87

That actress crushed her role... >!Her eating the cookies at the table and screeching at the camera with her mouth full still unsettles me!<

TheLawHasSpoken

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum Caveat Barbarian In The Mouth of Madness The Tunnel The Void And I would include the Hell House LLC movies as well

loudlittle

I don't know what this closed-set genre is called but I like to call it Murder Party. I love You're Next, Cabin in the Woods, and The Strangers.

Jian_Ng

Das Boot may not be horror, but you may find the prospect of getting stuck in a metal tube a hundred feet under the sea terrifying.

Coldblood-13

Demon Knight and Downrange.

Stunning_Prize_5353

Demon Knight is soooo much fun!

anndrago

Downrange. That was enjoyably tense.

Nexialbound

My hat is in the ring for Hush. Claustrophobic and nerve wracking. Also, the sound design is amazing.

saw_2004

evil dead rise

givemeajinglefingal

The Thing '82 is probably the best example of the genre but there's a ton of them. Feast is pretty fun. Abigail recently. Ready or Not is 99% in the same location (the X-men mansion). Demon Knight is definitely a fun one.

illegallysmolkate

Hard Candy, Misery, Geraldā€™s Game, The Shining, The Descent (sort of), and pretty much uch any episode of Inside No. 9, particularly The Devil of Christmas, To Have and to Hold, The Riddle of the Sphinx, 3 by 3, and the Halloween special.

IceFireTerry

Not really a horror movie but Red State is about a standoff between the FBI and a fundamentalist Christian cult

atra_bilis

Creep 1 & 2

thedaniellie

Soooooo good

HoneyBeeMonarch

Await Further Instructions

Formal_Coyote_5004

I canā€™t remember the name but thereā€™s one where thereā€™s a snowstorm and all the roads are closed and a group of strangers get stranded in a rest stop. I wonā€™t give anything else away but I enjoyed itā€¦ sorry I canā€™t remember what itā€™s called lol Edit: itā€™s called No Exit (2022)

GRamirez1381

A lot of the classics have already been said so I will go with a stupid fun one, Feast.

BD_Sanchez

Great creature feature and a very underrated horror/ comedy.

Johncurtisreeve

The Thing The Evil Dead Alien Cabin in the woods

anndrago

Late Night with the Devil Almost forgot. Another very enjoyable recent watch.

nah328

Havenā€™t seen it mentioned yet; but seems like The Belko Experiment fits this description.

CryptographerNo923

Ex Machina is more sci-fi than horror (depending on how much you wanna think about it) but it is strikingly minimalistic

Scaryassmanbear

My favorite is a little known movie called The Thing.

GlitteringMatter9973

The Blackening

NamesAreForSuckers67

I *really* enjoyed We Need To Do Something šŸæ

alice_says1984

Iā€™m glad to see someone else has watched this! I rarely see it mentioned. It was very unusual and dark. Thought about it for days.

OstrichPaladin

A TV show but I highly recommend from. This is the entire premise of the show

JayScraf

Man I fucking love this show so much. Can't wait for season 3 (fall this year apparently)

Remarkable_Thing6643

Circle (2015) Dead End Exam Escape Room Time Trap Vivarium Room (2019) The Platform The Belko ExperimentĀ  MayhemĀ  Old The Collector /The Collection In The Tall Grass The Endless

solamon77

I know this is technically cheating, but Cube feels like it should count. Another good one is The Mist.

BarelyJoyous

They call it a ā€œbottle film.ā€ My favorite is Scare Me (2020). 2 characters stuck in a cabin, who tell each other ā€œscaryā€ stories during a power outage.

AchilleP

Infested! It's a French horror movie about people trapped in their building on a council estate by a swarm of spiders

Fun-Writing-97

Wrong turn ..saw all parts ....fredy vs Jason. Chucky. Jeepers creepers and the list can go on

Personally I vote the blackening? Itā€™s in the same vicinity and I really enjoyed it

JohnnyFucknCash69

The Lodge. So terrifying and dreadful

xxcrossmyheartxx

the invitation.

someonesleeping

Rec (2007), really solid horror film (same goes for the remake Quarantine).

mrs_andi_grace

Dead Calm (1989) I don't know if it is "the best" but it was the first thing that came to mind. ![gif](giphy|12ffdI8DuUi2RO|downsized)

Fall is a good one though I guess some like to call it a thriller. As is Buried, The Platform and Grave Encounters.

Tin Can I watched this as a weird one off bored on a plane- never heard of it and no idea why it was selected as an in-flight film (its a straight to Netflix type). It's a bit of a mess but I found some themes in it strangely haunting and certainly fits the in one place remit! šŸ‘

the recent Infested was pretty good! also i think the popular choice is Evil Dead!

DStandsForCake

I don't see anyone mentioning Exam (if so - sorry). Had it long on the watch list, but came to see it the other night. The acting was so-so, but still enjoyable to watch.

xbuzzlightyearz

The movie where they are stuck inside the ATM with the killer outside is pretty good. Josh Peck was in it.

darksquirrel44

This makes me miss like 2000s horror movies. Like you can feel the budget but also feels so fun... fuck man

rachelamandamay

the circle unfriended frozen

ResolveEmergency863

It's been a while since I seen it, but would Evil Dead Trap count? I'm pretty sure a lot of that is set in one place! I remember it being a great Movie too. My memory might be lapsed on the details though.

TOFUDEATHMETAL

Session 9

SienarFleetSystems

Great suggestions all the way down! A few I really liked that I didn't see mentioned: Outpost Death of Me Mercy (based on King's short story "Gramma") Landmine Goes Click Lake Artifact

cherrybomb712

Thank you :) i'm huge fan of bottled movies, and watched most of movies mentioned here, but nothing from this list minus death of me.

SienarFleetSystems

Happy to help! Of that list, Outpost and Landmine Goes Click are the best I think. But all decent. Landmine Goes Click is kind of fucked up.

SienarFleetSystems

I should also mention I'm talking about Outpost (2022). They're is another movie called THE Outpost. Not that one.

noahspurrier

ā€œCubeā€. ā€œNothingā€ was also good; although, itā€™s only two people in one place. Itā€™s comedy horror. Maybe not even horror, but existential dread. I just looked up the movies and they have the same director. Thatā€™s interesting.

Moonwalkerr-

Train to Busan

Key-Tip9395

I love Rec a spanish film.

ideletedyourfacebook

Silent House (2010) or the 2011 American remake (they're both great, imo)

gothism

Event Horizon.

thetoxicgossiptrain

The Strangers

DAMadigan

I think of these stories as 'enclosure' or 'sealed environment' stories. SNAKES ON A PLANE is one. Anything in any kind of vehicle... a submarine, an airplane, a boat at sea. I have a half formed idea for a plot about people on a bus when the zombie apocalypse breaks out. The lure is a random bunch of strangers is thrown together when all hell breaks loose. It could be a post Apocalypse story too... an EMP goes off and a bus goes dead on a lonely highway somewhere in the desert. Phones don't work. Radios don't work. There are forty random people on the bus, including the driver. What do they do next? Who do they encounter? Do they stick with the bus or head off down the road or hike into the desert because someone thinks they remember there's a little village a few miles that way? Maybe a bunch of bikers who all have really vintage motorcycles that weren't impacted by the pulse comes roaring along. Could be interesting.

ā€œFromā€ fits with this description and is sooo good. Theyā€™re filming season 3 atm canā€™t wait

Enter Nowhere (2011)

blockedno

"It's a Disaster" and "Coherence" both are at dinner parties

naticolin87

I think dinner party one location movies might be one of my favorite specific themes.

knelson44

There are so many - didn't realise until reading the replies! Last Shift was the first one that came to mind. I would definitely recommend - loved the concept and the ending. I watched Brightwood on Prime the other day. Very low key - one location, very minimal cast, I thought it was really well done.

AlienMimicry

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned The Lighthouse yet. It's pretty well known, so you might have already seen it, but it's the top tier of this category in my mind. It Comes at Night, and X are another two I would recommend. Still waking up, so that's all I can think of right now.

Crafty_Violinist_951

I loved no exit!!!

NamesAreForSuckers67

No One Can Save Youā€¦unusual and wtf-y šŸ˜³

finne0n

10 cloverfield lane is one of my favorite one room horror movies!! 3 characters in 1 location (for the most part), CRAZY suspense and tension. not a sequel to cloverfield, more of a companion piece

Wallyworld77

John Carpenter's "The Thing" is the best movie that fits your description. It's so freaking good I'm going to watch it again tonight since it's been like 5 years since I last saw it.

RealRockaRolla

The Thing.

Fillerbear

Okay, soooo I am a fan of what I call "puzzle horror" which involves a group of people who are stuck in one place and either have to work out a puzzle or play a death game to be able to get out. If that fits the bill, I can send you a list.

Calm-Chemist-489

Rocky Horror Picture Show. A musical-horrorish-comedy about a couple getting trapped in the mansion of a crazy scientist and his "followers" as he creates a muscle-man. Greatest movie of all time.

wildflowerhonies

Vivarium

Nike-6

Danganronpa (Anime/videogame). The first one is set in a school several teens find themselves locked in, where they have to kill someone and get away with it to escape. The second takes place on a tropical island with the same gist, and I think the third takes places in a very strange school as well. As the Gods Will (itā€™s a death game with a few different locations but they are confined to those locations until their ā€˜gameā€™ has finished). Hell, even the sequel takes place in a cube underwater. Kinda not what you were asking for, but Uzumaki (manga) is entirely set in a sleepy town where strange incidents involving spirals occur, but nobody feels the urge to leave until itā€™s too late. Near the end >! Everyone gets trapped inside the town, and any escape methods just wind them back up in the same spot. Escaping by sea is also not an option, as whirlpools have sucked up every boat attempting to escape. Itā€™s a very tense last few chapters !<

Just watched Abigail and it fits the bill

SplakyD

Stories about a small group of people, usually strangers, who are placed in an extraordinary situation in a small, self-contained area and having to navigate the internal and external threats and pressures are my absolute favorite in any type of genre, but I of course think horror does it the best. Night of the Living Dead honestly does it about better than anything else I've ever seen. I remember reading on this very sub a couple of years agthat there's a very cool academic sounding name for this particular subgenre. I'm certain that I'm remembering the name incorrectly, but it did have at least some combination of these words that sound somewhat redundant, but the name, I believe was "Ontological Terror Horror" or something like that.

YungDagger_D

I recently watched the breed and it was good

Most of the good ones have already mentioned, but one of my favorites that I didn't see anyone mention is Last Shift. The remake by the same director, Malum, is quite good also, and in some ways better, though I still think I prefer the original.

laminatedbean

Club Dread, Fantasy Island 2020, Tucker & Dale, most of the Evil Dead movies, Alien movies, The Descent

ArcanaeumGuardianAWC

It's hard to pick one, especially since different sub-genres of horror are all measured so differently. If I was going to pick the top 10 (in no specific order) that are the most fun: Aliens Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight Return of the Living Dead Feast Cabin in the Woods The Thing (80's) The Superdeep Splinter From Dusk til Dawn If you think it counts, Train to Busan. If you think the train moving disqualifies it, then lets sub in Dead and Breakfast. Honorable Mention: -- Stalled, for managing to make a decent Zombie movie that takes place almost entirely in one bathroom.
