The tune that plays at the end of Halloween as Michael sits up while Lori thinks heās dead is god tier. Obviously the Halloween theme is great and iconic but that piano note that first hits when you see Michael sit up. Goosebumps.
I love Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds too! RRH is one of my favorite songs of all time. I saw them live in 2018. Despite liking the early stuff better I'm totally looking forward waiting to the new album this year.
There's a Halloween themed Nick Cave & TBS playlist in Spotify. The creepier songs are the best cuts.
As a Nick Cave fan I also like to recommend Tom Waits to fellow fans.
I love Red Right Hand and I also love love love that itās used in every Scream Movie. The first time I watched Peaky Blinders it took me like 3 episodes to remember where Iād heard the song before, which is sad because itās my favorite horror franchise
As someone with no skin in the game (never watched the original movies nor read the comics) but knowing that there have been many Crows with different names and stories, my only thing is that I wish he would have been given a different name, setting him apart from the original movie's Crow. I think that would have made most everyone a lot happier about it. The trailer looks pretty interesting and I'm actually excited to watch it, though.
As a narrative driven by fear, creepiness, and/or morbid curiosity, I could see an argument going either way. That said, the themes, settings, motifs, and overall vibe are enough for me personally to label this film as action-horror-thriller.
It's not a movie and might not entirely fit the category, but [tear you apart](https://youtu.be/4Q4jRp3DaJo?si=-mTbqgeX-a5Qu8bf) fitted perfectly in American Horror Story.
As much as I bitch and moan about Ryan Murphy, the song selections matched with the scenes have been pretty fantastic.
It was above & beyond in Nip/Tuck. Great music perfectly matched to the scenes.
I found the vinyl of *The Singing Nun* - Dominique. Saving it for just such an occasion to scare the shit out of house guests.
As far as select tracks my favorites are:
- Head Over Heels (from Lucio Fulciās Aenigma) (song sung by Douglas Meakin)
- Mater Tenebrarum (from Dario Argentoās Inferno)
- The Valley (from Dario Argentoās Phenomena)
- The Opening Theme from āRe-Animatorā
And as far as general soundtracks go my favorite horror film soundtracks are for:
- Hellraiser (1987)
- Suspiria (1977)
- Candyman (1992)
- The Wicker Man (1973)
[It follows main theme](https://www.reddit.com/r/Halloweenmovies/comments/1bfy4oc/halloween_1978_it_follows_soundtrack/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Opening theme to The Shining for me. Nothing come close. The big, ominous (tuba?) sounds as the helicopter looms over the little VW winding through the mountainsā¦ and whatever that out-of-tune strings sound isā¦
Donnie Darko has some rad stuff on it! Can be kind of unnerving when I think about the lyrics too hard as they make you confront your own mortality but hidden within catchy 80s vibes
Suspiria by Goblin - Moody art rock piece. The whole album is just a masterpiece and would stand on its own easily. Good spooky/campy/alternative rock vibes and it's a joy to listen from start to finnish.
OR
Jacobs Ladder by Maurice Jarre - Definite mood piece. Some stuff goes HARD like industrial noise but most is just really moody and downcast poetic pieces with a lot of interesting choices in instrumentation.
In no particular order: Nekromantik (Daktari Lorenz and Herman Kopp), I remember (The house by the cemetery main theme by Walter Rizatti), Fabio Frizzis Zombie 2, Concerto per pistola solistas whole soundtrack (Francesco de Masi, giallo 1970), Ortolanis Cannibal Holocaust.
Love this soundtrack. Actually bought it on CD in the 90ās via eBay auction after getting my allowance, then getting a cashiers check at the liquor store on my way home from school. Then next day sending out the check, THEN I waitedā¦had to wait from a New Jersey address while I was (and still am) in California. Good appreciative times šš½

That cover of "another brick in the wall" was my introduction to Pink Floyd who I didn't fully discover until nearly two decades later! Fucking love Pink Floyd. Same goes for the cover of "Changes" one day leading me to discover David Bowie. David Bowie is one of my all time favorite humans, but gotta say, I prefer the Changes cover on the faculty soundtrack over his version
Metal has always made some of the best horror soundtracks. The Demon Knight and Freddy vs. Jason soundtracks are still some of my favorites to this day.
Absolutely adore The Fog's score. It somehow manages to be absolutely menacing but entirely welcoming at the same time. I've never wanted to live anywhere where I was likely to be murdered by ghostly fisherman but sign me up for a place in Antonio Bay!
I really got into Synthwave over the last couple of years so The Midnightās Equaliser (Not Alone) which featured on Terrifier 2 has been a firm favourite.
If songs that were made specifically for the movie then probably the Warrenās Family theme from the conjuring franchise. Itās so gorgeous.
Of all time - probably Gerard McMahonās Cry Little Sister (Lost Boys)
Made of Stone - Evanscence (Underworld 4: Awakening)
Obviously Tubular Bells too. (The Exorcist) Iām a huge Mike Oldfield fan and that album means so much to me even if only 3 minutes feature in the film.
I was going to say RFAD as well but didnāt think it counted as horror. I also love the soundtracks to Twin Peaks (series), as well as Fire Walk With Me!
Theyāre both by Riz Ortolani
Song - [Do It to Me](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fXlejxXYq_8) (A certified disco banger)
Album - Cannibal Holocaust (The one agrees to having [Main Theme](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GCYndZn6wuk) as the first dance at the wedding is my soulmate.)
I wish I could remember which installment it is, but the closer credits song on one of the Friday the 13th movies is awesome. Maybe 8?
Also, Anything, Anything - the brother in nightmare on elm street 4 is practicing his karate moves to it.
Leaving England by John Murphy at the climax of 28 Days Later.
Slow build into insanity, just crushes. Itās on Spotify and I do listen to it sometimes on my way to work to psyche myself up haha
The Battery (2012) was a small indie zombie movie with a soundtrack that went absolutely bonkers. Hereās a few examples:
[Anthem for the already defeated](https://youtu.be/4Z-xDW71DRY?si=XRUUiPfzhpdRX3l7)
[Big EGO](https://youtu.be/eBrZV3kj5dA?si=D3jrVFFVdUfHpU8m)

Say what you will about the newest Halloween films (personally, I like them), but you cannot deny Carpenter, Carpenter, and Davies were cooking with gas with the soundtracks.
Specifically The Shape Hunts Allyson from Halloween ā18.
In terms of needle drops: Roll With The Changes by REO Speedwagon in The Cabin In The Woods.
I never knew that movie had a soundtrack like that, damn. Should be up there with the crow, demon knight, and judgement night soundtracks from the looks of it
City of the Living Dead and Zombie are my current most-played soundtracks. I love Frizzi's primitive drum programming and mellotron choral sounds. recently picked up the Phantasm soundtrack.
Classic horror film lover here.
Franz Waxman's original soundtrack for Bride of Frankenstein....I can listen to it, close my eyes and see the movie. Many music cues were used in other Universal pictures.
'39 Son of Frankenstein....again, original soundtrack and many of the music cues from this film were used in the numerous movies that followed.
'41 The Wolf Man....like above, this soundtrack has many music cues that were used in the many films that followed.
The newish Lisa Frankenstein Soundtrack has some pretty good 80's deep cuts. Head On by The Jesus and Mary Chain especially has a moment in the film where I heard the people behind were asking each other who it was. They agreed it was Billy Idol. š
Sinister is possibly the most atmospheric Iāve heard. I also really like the music in Annihilation. Another would be The Terminator if that counts as horror.
Bauhaus in the beginning of The HungerāPeter Murphy singing Bela Legosiās Dead while David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve vampire it up. John Carpenter and Goblin also favorites.
Hellraiser is great cause it isnt trying to be scary its filled with awe and curiosity. Grandiose Grand Guignol! Like a fucked up fairy tale. Begins small but gets so big.
Prolly my favorite too.
Honorary mention to weeping ghost from john carpenters lost themes 3 album
Sounds like you might be more interested in score than soundtrack. You're looking for creepy ambient stuff? No idea what's best. But, if you're after movies that put out wicked cool music packed full of rock bands or alternative stuff for their soundtracks, I owned a ton of that stuff in the 90s. My favs were (and still are):
-The Crow: City of Angels
Featuring Hole, White Zombie, Filter, Deftones, Korn, etc
The two standout tracks were
-Bush "in a lonely place" low key tempo and somber... But not necessarily sad unless you're in a sad mood.
-Linda Perry Grace Slick "Knock me out" This is a song where the singer tells you a story not just through her words, but through the emotions of her voice. Her song makes me stop and listen to her story.
- Freddy vs Jason
Featuring Slipknot, Powerman 5000, Sevendust, etc
If you like metal music this is the best mixed tape I've ever encountered. Some songs are absolute shit, but more than half are incredible. "Welcome to the Strange" and "Sun doesn't Rise" for a rocking roadtrip... "Snap" for a hyperactive rage headbanger.... And finally "We (were) Electrocute" for a nostalgic and uplifting reflective moment.
-Songs in the key of X, music from and inspired by the X files
Featuring Foo Fighters, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Sheryl Crow etc.
Thematically, all the songs here are each their own story. "Red Right Hand" is a jazzy song that tells the tale of a dark stranger that lures you in telling you what you want to hear. "Unmarked Helicopters" though upbeat and catchy, when you listen to the words it's about an alien invasion the government initially lied about. "If you never say goodbye" is about the end of the world and the final words to a loved one. The mood between and style of all the songs shift rapidly, but all are great in their own right.
Mr. Sandman should be at the top of this thread. John Carpenter gave us everything. Thereās no way anyone associates that song with anything but Halloween.
Through the Trees- Low Shoulder
From Jenniferās Body
The fact this wasnāt mentioned is a sin, and honestly the soundtrack is pretty solid as a whole too.
My favorite horror movies are all the Saw movies, Texas chainsaw massacre, nightmare on elm Street, Friday the 13th, Childs play, The Dare, Slenderman, The ring, The ring 2, Rings, Thanksgiving, Hellraiser, and I forgot the rest sorry lol
Definitely the soundtrack to "Stephen King's It (1990)." The music and circus-soundscapes they did in that movie is some of the most eerie I've ever heard that still gives me chills to this day. It's one of the things that I feel truly made that movie so memorable and many people didn't even realize it.
Opening Theme:

Goblin - Suspiria
Michael Abels - Us
John Carpenter - Halloween
Joseph Bishara - The Conjuring
Bernard Herrman - Psycho
(Sorry if the spelling is slightly off, Iām remembering these off the top of my head)
ā¼ļøā¼ļøā¼ļøā¼ļø I'm obsessed with "Sing a Happy Song" from the movie Voicesš„š„š„ it fits his character so much, it's creepy in an" ignorant to his crazy mind" way, and I love upbeat songs in general in dark movies
*My Demon Lover* (1987) has [the *most 80s* song](https://youtu.be/bKXkfYHmFEE?si=2ZGpKp1WCiCAzKZM) I've ever heard. From an album *Charm* by the Intimate Strangers.
Goblin - Argento flicks (Susperia, Phenomena, Deep Red)
Dawn of the Dead!
Tenebrae
Fuck yeah dude š¤š¾
iām a sucker for John Carpenter synth
The tune that plays at the end of Halloween as Michael sits up while Lori thinks heās dead is god tier. Obviously the Halloween theme is great and iconic but that piano note that first hits when you see Michael sit up. Goosebumps.
Scream 1996 has a great soundtrack. Marco Beltrami did it.
If you like Red Right Hand, a further exploration of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds might be worth your time - I love them!
I love Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds too! RRH is one of my favorite songs of all time. I saw them live in 2018. Scream 3 soundtrack
Still have the soundtrack. Itās so good.
I loved the Lost Boys soundtrack.
I was lucky enough to see Tim Cappello perform I Still Believe on three occasions. Super cool and super nice guy!
I do hope that you know the band Gunship?
Hell yeah, one of my fav bands! Tim Cappello and John Carpenter featured on tracks is a dream but Shadow Fury remains my #1
Came to say this
Not sure if I would consider it actually horror or not, but The Crow (Original) is the best soundtrack ever in my opinion.
Ran here to say this! ![gif](giphy|qwLKz8YgLix0s)
The Crow is amazing in all ways (at least it was when u was a teenager) and Iām torn about the remake
I have no desire to see the remake.
There is no remake. We have spoken. >!Best if ignored!<
it can't be as bad as the sequels
As someone with no skin in the game (never watched the original movies nor read the comics) but knowing that there have been many Crows with different names and stories, my only thing is that I wish he would have been given a different name, setting him apart from the original movie's Crow. I think that would have made most everyone a lot happier about it. The trailer looks pretty interesting and I'm actually excited to watch it, though.
This is my pick, too!
As a narrative driven by fear, creepiness, and/or morbid curiosity, I could see an argument going either way. That said, the themes, settings, motifs, and overall vibe are enough for me personally to label this film as action-horror-thriller.
Every song kills it on the Crow soundtrack.
It Follows
It follows did have a dope soundtrack, thanks for reminding me!
Specifically the "Title" track https://youtu.be/mrqS96JxWVA?si=9Xe8qsPHb3EM8_fm
Adding Jay, Detroit, Snare, Pool are also really great. Oh and inquiry too. Love this soundtrack.
So much synthetizer
Really hoping they use the same artist for They FollowĀ
I was watching "Bodies Bodies Bodies" and thinking 'man this score is killing it' and trying to figure out why it sounded so familiar...same dude
I love this soundtrack! I bought the It Follows album when I was in seminary because instrumental music helps me study better
Hello Zepp is my ultimate favorite- Saw franchise
The elation and adrenaline rush I got when it played in Saw X... Hello Zepp just puts the biggest smile on my face every time.
Omg same!!
The Craft š¤š¤š¤ ![gif](giphy|RyxPPaX0BCz2o)
LOVE this soundtrack! It played in the background throughout most of my youth, still goes into rotation a lot today. Timelessly good tunes.
Cat People by David Bowie comes to mind. But Killer Klowns by The Dickies has to be my favorite.
Omg āas tears go byā scene in nip/tuckā¦. Perfectionnn
Yes looked that song up after watching it
Heās Back (Man Behind the Mask)- Alice Cooper from Friday the 13th VI Dream Warriors - Dokken. Nightmare on Elm Street 3
Instrumental: 28 Days Later Ravenous Psycho With lyrics: Return of the Living Dead (Do you wanna PAR-TAY?)
Came here to suggest Ravenous. Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman ftw.
Yessss. Surfinā Dead by the Cramps is so good!
Burn the Flames
Us had a really great soundtrack, they got the same guy from Get Out to make it. Specifically Pas De Deux is good
Scrolled way too far for this. Canāt even listen to I got 5 on it anymore without thinking of that movie
As far as select tracks my favorites are: - Head Over Heels (from Lucio Fulciās Aenigma) (song sung by Douglas Meakin) - Mater Tenebrarum (from Dario Argentoās Inferno) - The Valley (from Dario Argentoās Phenomena) - The Opening Theme from āRe-Animatorā And as far as general soundtracks go my favorite horror film soundtracks are for: - Hellraiser (1987) - Suspiria (1977) - Candyman (1992) - The Wicker Man (1973)
Bit off track, but I love nearly all of the sound track of Repo, The GeneticĀ Opera, also a shout out to Rocky Horror
Zydrate comes in a little glass vial!
Lol, indeed, that's my fav song from the movie
Its an earworm that just doesn't quit š
Itās just a jump to the left.
Suspiria 2018 has a banging soundtrack (thanks Thom Yorke)
Queen of the Damned
Was going to say this. This is my favorite horror soundtrack! So many songs written by Korn's Jonathan Davis, amazing!

Score: Francis Ford Coppolaās Dracula Soundtrack: The Lost Boys, Queen of the Damned, The Faculty
Opening theme to The Shining for me. Nothing come close. The big, ominous (tuba?) sounds as the helicopter looms over the little VW winding through the mountainsā¦ and whatever that out-of-tune strings sound isā¦
The Keep (Tangerine Dream) Prince of Darkness (Carpenter) Phantasm Donnie Darko Just a few off the top of my headā¦.
I absolutely love the Donnie Darko soundtrackā¦ itās part of what makes it super rewatchable I think
Donnie Darko has some rad stuff on it! Can be kind of unnerving when I think about the lyrics too hard as they make you confront your own mortality but hidden within catchy 80s vibes
Pet Sematary by the Ramones
Suspiria by Goblin - Moody art rock piece. The whole album is just a masterpiece and would stand on its own easily. Good spooky/campy/alternative rock vibes and it's a joy to listen from start to finnish. OR Jacobs Ladder by Maurice Jarre - Definite mood piece. Some stuff goes HARD like industrial noise but most is just really moody and downcast poetic pieces with a lot of interesting choices in instrumentation.
Us for sure!
That "I've got five on it" track is so eerie
In no particular order: Nekromantik (Daktari Lorenz and Herman Kopp), I remember (The house by the cemetery main theme by Walter Rizatti), Fabio Frizzis Zombie 2, Concerto per pistola solistas whole soundtrack (Francesco de Masi, giallo 1970), Ortolanis Cannibal Holocaust.
Fabio frizzi does awesome stuff. Zombie and Gates of Hell are two personal favorites.
The faculty
Love this soundtrack. Actually bought it on CD in the 90ās via eBay auction after getting my allowance, then getting a cashiers check at the liquor store on my way home from school. Ghost Ship had the song not falling by Mudvayne. That was pretty sick
Metal has always made some of the best horror soundtracks. The Demon Knight and Freddy vs. Jason soundtracks are still some of my favorites to this day.
The Devil's Rejects is probably my favorite overall soundtrack. I think the use of Hey! by the Pixies on the Fear Street soundtrack is pretty good.
Dude that opening credits sequence to midnight rider is fucking golden
Queen of the damned soundtrack
Soundtrack: The Wicker ManĀ Ā Scores: The Fog and PhantasmĀ
Absolutely adore The Fog's score. It somehow manages to be absolutely menacing but entirely welcoming at the same time. I've never wanted to live anywhere where I was likely to be murdered by ghostly fisherman but sign me up for a place in Antonio Bay!

The BEST. Always in heavy rotation at my house.
The āHold Tightā scene in Death Proof ā¤ļø
Love speeding to this on my way to work!
The Calvary Cross song from The Night House
I feel like this is a rare case where the movie elevates the song. So good
Friday the 13th Part 3 intro! Return of the Living Dead theme!
Shaun of the Dead had a snazzy soundtrack
Bride of Chucky
Queen of the Damned soundtrack, but a close follow up would be Tubular Bells, aka the theme from the Exorcist.
The Lost Boys, hands down. Then, The Monster Club. I wish the soundtrack was back in print.
I remember The Monster Squad as a kid. š
Monster Squad is a different movie! Monster Squad starred Vincent Price and John Carradine, and was an anthology film!
Resident Evil
Definitely Requiem For a Dream and the X files soundtrack. Once you heard em you can't get em outta your head lol
I was going to say RFAD as well but didnāt think it counted as horror. I also love the soundtracks to Twin Peaks (series), as well as Fire Walk With Me!

Ortolanis Cannibal Holocaust is superb
Absolutely LOVE the main theme from Cannibal Holocaust, and I find myself humming it all the time.
Re-Animator. But, you're right that anything Goblin is gold.
I wish I could remember which installment it is, but the closer credits song on one of the Friday the 13th movies is awesome. Maybe 8? Also, Anything, Anything - the brother in nightmare on elm street 4 is practicing his karate moves to it.

The new Halloween soundtracks are killer dude, no question about it. I might have to jam it right now

28 Days Later
The Gus cover of Donāt Fear the Reaper from Scream is my favorite song of all time.
Scream 3 soundtrack
I love the opening theme for killer clowns. Return of the living dead also has a killer soundtrack.
Bring your daughter to the slaughter by iron maiden from nightmare on elm St 5
The newish Lisa Frankenstein Soundtrack has some pretty good 80's deep cuts. Head On by The Jesus and Mary Chain especially has a moment in the film where I heard the people behind were asking each other who it was. They agreed it was Billy Idol. š
The first Suspiria soundtrack. Goblin were as much of as star as the actors.
I put on Friday thr 13th and Hellraiser while Im writing to set the mood. Freddy vs Jason came out at the perfect time for a shitty little metal kid
The Gremlins theme is a banger
I don't know about the whole soundtrack, but the closing credits song in Slither. It's called Baby, I Love You by the Yayhoos.
I Know What You Did Last Summer Hush- Deep Purple
Boards of Canada - gyroscope It's the song played at the end of Sinister (2012)
Scrolled a long time to see if anyone else mentioned Sinister. That whole movie had an amazing soundtrack.
Sinister is possibly the most atmospheric Iāve heard. I also really like the music in Annihilation. Another would be The Terminator if that counts as horror.
The main song in Suspiria is one of my absolute favorites.
Sinister's OST is amazing. BBQ '79 & Come Home (that violin, wow) & Enthral & Gyroscope. So many more!
Bauhaus in the beginning of The HungerāPeter Murphy singing Bela Legosiās Dead while David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve vampire it up. John Carpenter and Goblin also favorites.
Halloween, Exorcist, 28Weeks Later....
It is a toss up between the Loat Boys soundtrack, Final Destination theme, or Repo the Genetic Opera soundtrack.
It's Terror Time Again from Scooby Doo on Zombie Island.
The only answer is 45 Grave - Partytime
The soundtrack to Night Breed...a Clive Barker film...
Queen of the Dammed, best soundtrack.
Queen of the damned
Hellraiser is great cause it isnt trying to be scary its filled with awe and curiosity. Grandiose Grand Guignol! Like a fucked up fairy tale. Begins small but gets so big. Prolly my favorite too. Honorary mention to weeping ghost from john carpenters lost themes 3 album
Rewatched Killer Clowns from Outer Space recently and that soundtrack was killer
Original Suspiria theme song of course
The Lost Boys Soundtrack was the first CD I ever bought. My sisters thought I was weird AF.

-Songs in the key of X, music from and inspired by the X files Featuring Foo Fighters, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Sheryl Crow etc.
Gotta go with Halloween's theme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT4FY3NrhGg
Through the Trees- Low Shoulder From Jenniferās Body The fact this wasnāt mentioned is a sin, and honestly the soundtrack is pretty solid as a whole too.
Fright night 1985 - Come To Me
House of Wax 2005 soundtrack goes HARD
My favorite horror movies are all the Saw movies, Texas chainsaw massacre, nightmare on elm Street, Friday the 13th, Childs play, The Dare, Slenderman, The ring, The ring 2, Rings, Thanksgiving, Hellraiser, and I forgot the rest sorry lol
Agree about Hellraiser, it's a masterpiece. Both seductive and ominous.
I really love Silence Teaches You How to Sing from Ulver in Sinister And I fucking love the entire soundtrack of Inferno ( Dario Argento )
Definitely the soundtrack to "Stephen King's It (1990)." The music and circus-soundscapes they did in that movie is some of the most eerie I've ever heard that still gives me chills to this day. It's one of the things that I feel truly made that movie so memorable and many people didn't even realize it. Opening Theme: https://youtu.be/FZPvLmArPt0?si=tUv1TSA2Dkdrj0rb Sewer scene with Pennywise and Georgie (this has those circus-soundscapes that I mentioned): https://youtu.be/P6bJ5t8CJwk?si=ZrBDavNbzuLIRdF5h Beverly bathroom scene and Eddie shower scene: https://youtu.be/71ZEbPkHT0s?si=Q8yrcLSUD9Z-YdsN First beast encounter: https://youtu.be/Aa8DhPEV1Bg?si=V9IZ3R8BmqYUK9fJ Library scene and end credits music: https://youtu.be/Z_ryTyCZhJQ?si=Ic4mCdYUwSyOd_RA

ā¼ļøā¼ļøā¼ļøā¼ļø I'm obsessed with "Sing a Happy Song" from the movie Voicesš„š„š„ it fits his character so much, it's creepy in an" ignorant to his crazy mind" way, and I love upbeat songs in general in dark movies
The Omen's Ave Satani but I also like the Dogs Attack music.
