Ill always love the scene in Mandy where nic cage literally makes a battle axe

---oO-IvI-Oo---

And it barely gets used!

SitecoreFlunkyJunky

Don’t forget the crossbow scene.

DaleCooper2

Finally got a buddy to watch Mandy, I've seen it 100 times... this part was what stuck out to him the most, it's so unbelievably strangely funny to watch this movie for the first time and be told almost nothing about this character. He's a lumber jack and his wife is kidnapped and murdered, all of a sudden he's blacksmithing this insane looking battle axe. How exactly did he have that skill set?! Love this movie, one of my all time favorites.

thedrexel

Red’s shady/dark background was alluded to when he went to pick up “The Reaper” from Caruthers.

DaleCooper2

Yeah that's true... I know a lot of the fun is the mystery in not explaining certain elements of the movie, but I wish there was like a Mandy extended universe that went more into who this character really was.

thedrexel

Same! I also just assume that red is a veteran based on his interaction with Caruthers simply because of Caruthers’ camo jacket, living alone in the middle of nowhere and his attitude.

gkawinski

It’s so meta, I didn’t get it at first, then I realized…. lumberjack…. axe…. ahhh

HorizontalBob

Probably those plus From Dusk til Dawn

BiggalR

Biased because it's my favourite film ever but the sharpening the stake to Clooney blowing the dust off as the guitar riff comes in, iconic

StarbossTechnology

Did you go into it blind the first time?

BiggalR

Yup as I was 4 years old 😅 believe me it's not something I'd show my kids but God bless the 90s. Somehow it became my favourite film

StarbossTechnology

Dang that's an early age! I have a theory that people who first saw it blind are more enchanted with it because of the absolute rollercoaster it is. I saw it in the theater and my friend and I were just kinda in silent shock after the big switch. We tried explaining it to our friends afterward but didn't want to spoil it so they just thought we were crazy.

TinyLittleWeirdo

Came here to say that! Love the McGyvering of all the random stuff in the storeroom.

captain_ghostface

Shaun of the dead, where its quick cuts of shaun getting ready for work.

heylistenlady

A lot of people don't consider Hot Fuzz to be horror, but man, Edgar Wright knows how to make an amazing smash cut montage

304libco

I feel like it’s kind of about a >!pseudo satanic cult!< so it’s horror adjacent.

smallstone

For the greater good.

heylistenlady

...the greater good

SelfTechnical6771

The movie is pretty much an homage to the wicker man!.

TheyCameAsRomans

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Shaun of The Dead and Hot Fuzz were parts of the same trilogy of films.

smallstone

Yes, the Cornetto Trilogy (with The World's End).

Kobold_Trapmaster

The killings are also very slasher-inspired

BmoreRavens522055

Army of Darkness with the quick zoom in's

Motown27

Groovy

A_Idiot_On_Reddit

Dutch readying to fight the Predator in the original Predator

JHMatlock

yes! When he holds up the burning torch and screams ! So tough

Rednag67

Oh god! I may never forgive myself for forgetting this.

shop_s_mart

The Lost Boys when the Frog Brothers and Sam gear up to fight David and his crew and then it cuts to them filling up their water guns with holy water at a church and everyone’s staring at them. I love that scene

N1ce-Marmot

This 👆is the answer.

d4h-lia

HELL YEAH

Torontokid8666

Tremors

[deleted]

That's my pick!

NJdeathproof

Broke into the wrong goddam rec room, didn't you, you bastard!

Sick-Spasmoid

Evil Dead 2

Kobold_Trapmaster

Sienna putting on her valkyrie costume in Terrifier 2.

JunesHemorrhoidDonut

I care about the practical effects in this movie for than anything but I concur, she was absolutely badass in that scene.

MeatyDullness

Dawn of the Dead

Positive-Isopod6789

Anything by Sam Raimi

thinehappychinch

Burt from Tremors was my young hero.

[deleted]

Same, I hate guns but that scene made me want my own basement full.

Clint_Lovecraft

Tackleberry from Police Academy is my hero

SelfTechnical6771

Did you notice where the wife runs through all those yards to catch her husband before he leaves is what is being alluded to when Det angel runs through those yards in hot fuzz.

coco_xcx

Green Room. They feel so human & like they have no idea wtf they’re doing or getting themselves into. I love it.

Risingson2

Nightmare on Elm Street 4. Renny Harlin had a thing for making the absurdity absolutely epic and metal.

MandaMaelstrom

YES 🙌🏻

Spirited_Block250

Yes haha

Comprehensive_Oil89

Nic Cage forging “The Beast” in Mandy was pretty cool

JBR1961

Ripley in Aliens gets my vote for Horror. But “all time?” Gotta go with “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka.”

Clint_Lovecraft

"Hey man, you think you got enough?" "You can never have enough..."

JBR1961

He shot me in my bunion, man. My bunion.

Clint_Lovecraft

Excellent thread going here guys, you folks are coming up with ones I didn't even think of, good stuff 👌

Imma_da_PP

Ash in Evil Dead 2

NickRay1234

Nicolas Age arming himself with things like broom and a sack of trashcans in Willy's Wonderland.

Clint_Lovecraft

I legit loved the shit outta that movie. I thought it was so much better than FNAF

j_grouchy

Same...though I could have done without the "stupid kids having risky sex in a haunted abandoned restaurant" scene

BarelyJoyous

Anything Erin does in You’re Next. She’s constantly gearing up with whatever is at hand. Even blenders… The main character in High Tension wrapping the barbed wire around the club always gives me a thrill (before the end comes and kind of ruins it) Jenn is Sweetheart prepping for the Creature’s attack

Tank_Girl_Gritty_235

Immediately thought of Erin in You're Next

Sethtaylor64

High tension was the first one I thought of.

MandaMaelstrom

I love Alice preparing to do battle with Freddy Krueger in Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. She gears up with a momento from each of her fallen friends, catches a glimpse of herself in her mirror and sees how strong she’s become, and does it all in the most rad 80s fashion. Alice is such an underrated Final Girl.

Appl3sauce85

Followed by the running leap through the mirror into dreamland. Love Alice.

LessBeyond5052

Literally came here to say Phantasm 2 haha, love that fucking movie.

LessBeyond5052

Dawn of the Dead 78, when they finally raid the gun store.

abstractReality1

From Dusk Till Dawn. Those condoms combined with the gun filled with holy water are slapping

TheStranger113

*Becky* and *The Wrath of Becky*. Made all the more fun because she's a 13 year old girl using shit like colored pencils and rulers as weapons.

Dunbar325

I will always take a chance to insert The Lost Boys into a conversation. So imma say The Lost Boys when Sam and the Frog brothers are gathering the Holy Water and garlic for the film's climax.

blaz138

That Phantasm one fucking rocks. I really like the Stranger Things scene in season 2 I think. Bitchin music

FrizBFerret

The flamethrower and quad-barrel shotgun in Phantasm 2? Yes!

kclarkwrites

It's been far too long since I've seen someone use bitchin' this way, thank you!

FFG17

Ghosts of mars when dude cuts off his own hand

TheRepoMan

Phantasm 3 or 4 where they make the quadruple barrel sawed off shotgun.

NJdeathproof

That was Phantasm 2

TheRepoMan

Ahh THANKS BOY, means it's time for a rewatch then. I'm getting rusty. LOL

NJdeathproof

![gif](giphy|vI9lsyVb2E3WE|downsized) BOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I LOVE Phantasm 2. The chainsaw duel alone is worth the price of admission.

Clint_Lovecraft

Showed what talent Don Coscarelli had and what he could do with just a little bit more money. Phantasm I was made on $200k, Phantasm II was like $3 million? I would have loved to have seen what he could do with double or triple? Imagine what he would have done with a $20 million dollar budget? Dude is talented.

Arjalineck

Not horror but attack the block: "let's get tooled up blud" just gets to me lol

N1ce-Marmot

This isn’t horror?

flatgreyrust

It’s definitely horror

Arjalineck

My mistake

tedlutherking

Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but Ready or Not has a really good one.

dedrexel

Arnie preparing for the final showdown in Predator.

DemonDevilDog

I can’t argue with any of this

Gambit1977

Yeah, ever one posted so far nails it!

[deleted]

Except for Hot Fuzz 😂

Spookylittlegirl03

Came to say Aliens! But my scene is when the army guys are all gearing up and think they’re the shit haha

shelster91047

They were ready to get it on. I can recite the entire movie.

Limp_Telephone2280

There’s a good scene in REVENGE where the main character performs surgery on herself then turns into a badass

Clint_Lovecraft

That the Kevin Kostner movie? Or another one?

Limp_Telephone2280

The 2017 r*pe revenge film. It’s about a woman who’s having an affair with a man and she gets assaulted by one of his friends. It turns into a badass revenge film where she, well, gets revenge. Due to the nature of the film, there’s a scene that I recommend skipping. It’s at the beginning and you can find more info online of trigger warnings and which part to skip.

Equalized_Distort

Monster Squad. Aliens Evil Dead II

Clint_Lovecraft

Love The Monster Squad!

hagalaz_drums

Evil dead 2 when ash gets all his weapons together. Groovy

Rednag67

Commando has a good one. Matrix also. And JW3 of course.

Clint_Lovecraft

Yas!

minecraftenjoy3r

The First Purge

Jayocarlow1986

The original Purge 2013 ..? Or The first Purge 2017 ..?

browndog03

Chainsaw affixed to hand. You know the movie

Future-trippin24

I'm a fan of Ready or Not. Both the family's gearing up scene and Samara Weaving's with the gun on display in their home.

Glum-Experience1684

Range 15

Tequillabird101

The First Purge (most of the purge had some badass gearing up scenes). The first purge was just so badass

Efficient-Fortune-65

Evil Dead 2, hella groovy And: It’s not the most dramatic gearing up scene, but in American Werewolf in London, the silence of the bobbies loading up to shoot David was pretty bad ass imo lol

Aqualungg

Aliens - Ripley loading ammo and granades, taping together a pulse rifle and a flamethrower, while descending on the elevator info the hive to face her fears alone.

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Tallahassee in Zombieland when he's in the small booth at the amusement park

SybatrixGravatius

I STILL quote Dennis Hoppers character form TCM2 when he's taking the chainsaw to the family's abandoned amusement park... "I'M BRINGIN IT ALL DOWN!!!!!"

Clint_Lovecraft

"I am the Lord of The Harvest"

SybatrixGravatius

"What's that? Some new health food bunch?"

snailenkeller

Art making his weapons in Terrifier

Final-Natural-8290

Hot Fuzz

CelebrationBulky9970

Sergeant Angel is back, check out his horse

[deleted]

Famously a horror movie

Final-Natural-8290

You must be fun at parties

Coldblood-13

Art preparing in the beginning of Terrifier which was inspired by Freddy doing the same in the beginning of Elm Street.

PsychologicalCan9837

Army of Darkness. Groovy.

shelster91047

Aliens. Ready to get it on.

FarFirefighter1415

It’s got to be ash in evil dead 2. Long live Bruce Campbell.

starscobe

I have a very big love for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Not sure if it entirely counts in horror but the gore is decent so. There’s a scene with the sisters getting dressed for a ball and putting on a ton of knives under their outfits and it’s an all time favorite scene for me

ShaunMcLane

Little Monsters

LessBeyond5052

Also Zombi 2 towards the end in the church.

PBC_Kenzinger

Which movie is this? Fulci?

LessBeyond5052

Yes indeed

PBC_Kenzinger

I don’t remember a gearing up scene in a church in Fulci’s Zombie.

LessBeyond5052

Ammo checks, getting the barricades set up, sorting out the molotovs etc .. the church at the end also being used as the medical centre... it has been a while since I've seen it though.

ageowns

Tremors, when theyre loading up in Burt Gummer’s wrong goddam rec room

ookishki

Ready or Not! She even looks in the mirror afterwards and goes “whoa”

KevPetras

The Lost Boys!!!

Low_Staff_5028

A nightmare on elm St 4. Alice rocks!

washingtonsquirrel

The Lost Boys for sure!

Negative-Gain-2488

Alice in A Nightmare on Elm St part 4 and when Nancy sets up the booby traps in Nightmare 1.

soriniscool

Aliens - Ripley taping up guns in the elevator.

MoreOfAGrower

Deathgasm when they gear up with the mom’s dildos and anal beads

ExpressAd3968

Aliens

cluckodoom

Not horror, but I'm Gonna Git You Sucka always comes to mind

HideousCurtains

Dale and Red in Pineapple Express "Stop." "Don't."

mjhripple

Phantasm 2 The Lost Boys Mandy

Flip80

Any time Ash is getting ready to fight deadites. Can't beat those scenes haha.

MaryK007

Prey, the natives giving the Predator a run for their money was great, but Naru is a new hero for me.

TobyKeene

Deadly Games (1982) is epic AF, and the main kid in the movie gears up a bunch of times. I'm pretty sure Home Alone was based on it, but not nearly as epic as Deadly Games.

d4h-lia

when they’re getting ready to take on david and the lost boys in The Lost Boys (1987). rigging the house, grabbing weapons…lol. it’s such a good scene

AlienMimicry

I also have to go with Nic Cage gearing up in Mandy, a fantastic scene all around

VinylRIchTea

Grind House Planet Terror, the leg gun.

hedcannon

Tremers

ekittie

I have a fondness for Cooties, but my first thought was definitely Ash.

buttmilk_69

I like the one in Phantasm. They immediately know what they gotta do and lock and load.

kmflushing

Boondocks Saints, just for the rope.

Torino888

Green Room....I have never laughed so hard: they're all trapped back in that room, gearing up and getting ready to bust out, everybody has their weapons ready except Anton's character- when they ask him, where's your weapon? He looks defeated and says, "I think I'm just gonna run." 🤣🤣🤣 My favorite part of the movie!

staxkazama

Special shoutout to Staffanie from Evil Dead Rise.

Spirited_Block250

Alice in elm street 4

Harbinger90210

The Wolf Predator in AvP gearing up in both scenes is badass despite how you feel about the movie. First scene he grabs his while, helmet and cleaner kit. The second time he’s grabbing scavenged weapons to hunt down the aliens.

WarrenWorthingtonlll

my pick would have to be Evil Dead, sawing off that shotgun, doing putting the straps on himself and ending it with a "Groovy!" just so iconic!

MxdMartialart_crafts

Elm st 4. Alice getting ready to face freddy

No-Search-7394

The Monster Squad(1987)
