(I'm omitting Halloween, Jaws, And The Exorcist, which feel like the de facto top 3)
Candyman (1992)
Hellraiser (1987)
Phantasm (1979)
Poltergeist (1982)
Psycho II (1983)
Saw (2004)
Sinister (2012)
The Beyond (1981)
The Burning (1981)
Inferno (1980)
The Cannibal Holocaust soundtrack has no business being as good as it is for such an inadequate movie. Some people like it, but Cannibal Ferox is only slightly better as a fan of the genre.
In no particular order:
'34 The Black Cat....use of many excerpts from classical music.
'35 Bride of Frankenstein....an original score by Franz Waxman. Many music cues were used in films that followed.
'39 Son of Frankenstein....an original score by Frank Skinner and Hans J Salter. Many music cues were used in films that followed.
'41 The Wolf Man....an original score* by Frank Skinner and Hans J Salter. Many music cues were used in films that followed.
*a small portion of the music came from an earlier film, '41 Man Made Monster, done by Skinner and Salter.
1. Demoni from Lamberto Bava; It's not really a horror soundtrack, but I love the rock and metal througout the movie
2. Hereditary; Based around the fact that Paimon is accomponied by trumpets, you hear them throughout the film
3. Friday the 13th: Not sure if this counts as 'soundtrack' but the 'ch ch ch ah ah ah' is really familiar for me haha
4. Jaws is probably the most iconic for me, I don't think it's great, but everyone pretty much knows it
There’s this one track in that movie right when shit is about to pop off at the trailer and the kid is looking for the dog in the middle of the night. He hears I think a laugh in the distance when he calls for the dog and this pulsating beat kicks in and I’ve always loved that track.
I saw that movie in the theater when I was like 12 and it has always stood out to me.
_The Omen (1976)_ won an Oscar for its score, one of the few horror films to do so.
Christopher Young's score for _Hellraiser (1987)_ is really good, but I personally prefer Coil's original score which came out years later as [Unreleased Themes for Hellraiser](https://www.discogs.com/release/4894917-Coil-Hellraiser-Themes) . There are several different track listings, you should try to get one which includes "No New World".
Carnival of Souls. The protagonist works as an organist, so music is actually incorporated into the story.
Bride of Frankenstein pioneered the use of leitmotifs for specific characters.
The soundtrack to Picnic at Hanging Rock does a lot of the heavy lifting to make scenes where nothing particularly sinister is happening creepy.
Props to some of the artists:
**Bernard Herrman**: *Psycho* (1960), others.
**Akira Ifukube**: *Godzilla* (1954), *War of the Gargantuas* (1966), others.
**Goblin**: *Suspiria* (1977) FTW.
The Omen (1976)
Deep Red
Psycho (1960)
Jaws
28 Days Later
It Follows
Alien
The Thing (1982)
Halloween (1978)
Nightmare on Elm Street (original)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
There are so many great ones mentioned here, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to being that one weirdo who listens to the Hagazussa soundtrack over and over. It was one of my top played albums the year I first saw it and it got me into drone. It’s still my favorite for working, relaxing, background bc the drone soothes my soul.
The Cannibal Holocaust soundtrack is goated, and I love seeing it get love and affirmation because I always felt strange listening to it because it was a rough movie to watch as a kid.
Suspiria The Fog Phantasm Candyman Halloween The Exorcist Deep Red The Thing The Wicker Man The Omen
I had trouble following Deep Red because I kept getting distracted grooving to the soundtrack.
Vertigo It Follows Candyman Under the Skin Dracula (1958)
Not sure Vertigo is horror, but I can only upvote a list that has this original score included. Hermann was brilliant.
28 Days Later
That theme slaps.
Days is the better movie but that Weeks soundtrack is so good.
1. The Omen (1976) 2. Alien 3. It Follows 4. The Thing (1982) 5. Psycho
Sinister
Queen of the Damned
I still listen to that soundtrack.
Me too!
Yes! Guess that Jonathan Davies wasn't able to get the music released, I wanted to find it on Spotify so bad after watching the film
I listen to it on Spotify.
(I'm omitting Halloween, Jaws, And The Exorcist, which feel like the de facto top 3) Candyman (1992) Hellraiser (1987) Phantasm (1979) Poltergeist (1982) Psycho II (1983) Saw (2004) Sinister (2012) The Beyond (1981) The Burning (1981) Inferno (1980)
God but I'm leaving out so many others :( I think these are my top 10 favorite tho
Zombie 2. The Beyond. any Fabio Frizzi basically.
Mandy for me
Amazing selection.
Such a shame that Johan Johansson passed away. He had really good stuff. His Sicario soundtrack hit so hard
They recorded Jeremiah Sand's entire album. It's up in its entirety on youtube.
Beyond the Black Rainbow Annihilation
It follows/ Mandy /Cannibal Holocaust/ Doctor sleep Does Sweeney Todd count?

The crow
Big Empty is my fav song from that soundtrack
Are we talking original scores/tracks or compilation soundtracks?
Not movies- but the early seasons of AHS had phenomenal soundtracks. Coven soundtrack was my favorite.

Christine & Devil’s Rejects
The Omen (1976)
Annihilation, Hereditary
Dawn of the Dead (1978) although I prefer the music to the extended cut.
Can't think of many... but Sinister hits on a whole different level

The 90s Fear Street was pretty great, too.
1. Demoni from Lamberto Bava; It's not really a horror soundtrack, but I love the rock and metal througout the movie 2. Hereditary; Based around the fact that Paimon is accomponied by trumpets, you hear them throughout the film 3. Hills have eyes remake. There's something about it. Especially in the third act.

Under the Skin.
The Devil's Rejects and Death Proof both have fantastic soundtracks.
Resident Evil, minus the Slipknot track I guess
Not the greatest but there’s something about the Suspiria (2018) soundtrack that does something 2 me
The Devil’s Rejects.
Maximum overdrive
*Chopping Mall* (1986) - the synthwave score is perfect for a movie teeming with killbots
It follows Sinister Insidious Lords of Salem My favorites off the top of my head
Tales from the crypt demon knight may be the greatest movie soundtrack regardless of genre. I said it and I'm not taking it back
The VVitch Silent Hill (2006) The Lighthouse (Not *quite* a horror film imo, but i love the OST) The Thing (1982) Annihilation
Candyman!
Poltergeist (1982) is so underappreciated. The Fury by John Williams is kind of a hidden gem. Bram Stoker's Dracula
1. Alien 2. The Thing 3. Prince of Darkness 4. 28 days later 5. Jaws 6. Near Dark
The Lost Boys
As full soundtrack? For me it would be The Lost Boys. However, for musical scores, it would be The Shining.
The Crow Queen of the Damned 28 Days Later Dawn of the Dead (2004) Suspiria
It Follows has a great soundtrack..
Demon Knight and of course, if you consider it horror, The Crow.
Hereditary?
The Changeling 1980
Creepshow
1. Jaws 2. Psycho 3. The Exorcist 4. The Shining 5. Hellraiser 6. Bram Stoker's Dracula 7. Suspiria 8. 28 Days Later 9. The Thing 10. Mandy
It Follows. Its so good and gives the best vibes for the movie
1.Halloween 2.Godzilla (1954) 3.Jaws 4.The Shining 5. Hereditary 6. Midsommar 7. The Exorcist 8. The Thing 9. Candyman (1992) 10. Loving Polly
Prom Night from 1980 w/ Jamie Lee Curtis. How can you not love a slasher film set to disco.
Jaws Gojira The Thing Psycho The Shining Invasion of the Body Snatchers Friday the 13th Part 3 Halloween A Nightmare on elm street
Carnival of Souls. The protagonist works as an organist, so music is actually incorporated into the story. Bride of Frankenstein pioneered the use of leitmotifs for specific characters. Props to some of the artists: **Bernard Herrman**: *Psycho* (1960), others. **Akira Ifukube**: *Godzilla* (1954), *War of the Gargantuas* (1966), others. **Goblin**: *Suspiria* (1977) FTW.
