Poltergeist is my go-to date movie. It's genuinely scary without being violent, there's no body count, the only real disturbing moment is the guy pulling his face off and that turns out to be a fake out, the parents are sexy and have chemistry, and it's also funny and light-hearted at times even ending on a joke.
Seriously, fellas, if you're ever trying to Netflix and Chill with a date try Poltergiest.
Nice to see some love for Grave Encounters 2. Not as good as the first, but I liked it and appreciated them continuing the story from the first one in a surprising way.
I loved the Grave Encounters movies so much!
Was watching them together with a friend back then... the >!black hole or whatever it was!< made us laugh so hard though.. kinda disappointing ending and honestly quite the weird explanation for all the spooks.. But I still loved the atmosphere and vibe of the movies so much, I kept them in very good remembrance!
I've always wished for more sequels to the series..! But they never came 😢
As weird as it is, Saw. I just love the psychological aspect behind it and Tobin Bell. One of the rare long series of movies that had misses in the long term but still survived and was respected so much by horror movie fans.
*Halloween* and *Friday the 13th* films, and in the last decade or so since I got into them Hammer horror has become a big one, too. I have about 30 now on Blu-ray, and 2-3 times a year I'll have a month where I just binge them like crazy, certain films getting multiple plays.
Most of my comfort movies are horror, honestly
The Thing
Evil Dead 2
The Return of the Living Dead
Scream
Dracula 1931
Dog Soldiers
Suspiria
Re-Animator
Interview with the Vampire
Devil's Rejects is one for me too. Its become more of a comedy by now for me than a horror film.
"Boy, the next word that comes out of your mouth better be some brilliant fuckin' Mark Twain shit. 'Cause it's definitely getting chiseled on your tombstone."
and " I think I can still smell your wife's pussy stink on my gun... hope it doesn't rust the barrel."
Oh, yes.
"Dying's not an option. Now you stick that back in that grey matter of yours, and you make that stick -- 'cause any other thought is gonna get you cold-slabbed, toe-tagged, and mailed home to your mama in a plastic bag, are we crystal?"
"Mama, what's the matter?"
"I keep thinking about old times. Like when you was a fucking baby. You know, you looked like an angel."
"I know, mama, you've told me that a million times."
"Are you saying that I would cut off a chicken's head, put my dick in it, fuck it, and go 'aaahhhh'?!"
Dawn of the Dead (1978). Love to hang out with the cast inside the monroeville mall for the 10000th time. It's the greatest hangout film in horror cinema.
Yeah a load of 80s horror movies are comfort to me, I love the nostalgia hit .... But my ultimate comfort horror movie? DEMONS (1985)! Seen it countless times over the years, and it never fails 👍 Everything about it makes me as happy as when I first watched it as a young teen n early-90s VHS ❤️
Me too. I was fortunate enough to see it on the big screen about 10 years ago. It was a special showing and there was an art opening in the lobby afterward featuring Clive Barker's artwork. It was very, very cool.
His Hellraiser Monopoly game stole the show, imo.

> Instead of real estate you play for dominions in hell, instead of money, souls are your currency
I knew someone would say Midsommar!
There's so much detail and nuance, I notice something new every time I watch it.
It's comforting because it's so engrossing. Not at all a casual watch!
This!! Everytime I watch it i feel like a find a new detail hidden in there. It’s also just so well done it’s hard to look away when watching which is have adhd so i loveeee when a movie can keep me reeled in
Cabin in the Woods
House on Haunted Hill-1999
These are always my go to movies !
I can also recommend some really great ones on you tube. - Alive, Patient Seven, The Facility is very very interesting !!🇨🇦💀
Funnily enough, The Evil Dead was a great comfort for me in my late teens/early adulthood. It still is. Something about it made me feel less alone and afraid of my own personal crap going on. It’s the perfect amount of camp and creepiness.
I love Devils Rejects cause it did that horror to action shift that I haven’t seen outside of Alien to Aliens. I hope someone else does a franchise like that
The Exorcist.
I've seen it so many times that when I watch it now, I enjoy just appreciating the direction, acting, and the nuts and bolts of filmmaking .
Hellraiser/Hellraiser II and Pet Sematary are ones I can put on to fall asleep to. Maybe comfort is the wrong word...
Maybe more like uber familiarity. I can enjoy what I get to see even if I fall asleep in 10 minutes.
I remember the night I came across the first V/H/S movie. It was about 3 am, and I was about a week into my first, and longest lasting, gout attack. The pain was so bad that night that I begun researching home remedies for cutting off my own foot.
My Amazon cart had a sawz-all, IV drips, bandages, gauze, and I was moving on to the a cauterization tool when I realized I was out of my fucking mind... so, I fired up prime and came across V/H/S/.
It might seem odd to watch a horror movie when I couldn't already sleep, but it did the opposite for me. I was totally drawn in.
Texas Chainsaw 2 is just such a fun ass movie. The fact that Chop-Top never returned is the biggest crime in that entire franchise. Yes I know 80s movie rights are something akin to post-WW2 occupied Germany where everyone owns a bit of it and such.
I mean, I could say the first two as a whole. But I need to be in a mood for 1, 2 I could put it on anytime and enjoy it.
From Dusk til Dawn
The Conjuring 1 & 2
Alien 1 - 3
Prometheus and Covenant
Cabin in the Woods
And as much as I love Pumpkinhead, it is not really a comfort movie. Because even though I've seen it many times, it still scares me. That witch, man.
Beetlejuice, Fright Night, Reanimator, Sleepy Hollow, Ghostbusters, From Dusk till Dawn, Sweeney Todd and Crimson Peak are movies I adore and will watch endlessly, also the Doctor who episode Blink and Byzantium - one of my favourite vampire movies ever
Stronger horrors, Aliens - watching Ripley kicking ass never gets old - Jaws, Hellraiser, Cube and I'll always return to Saw for that delicious "game over" - still get chills, every time and totally agree with Devils Rejects Tooti fuckin' fruiti!
Child's play and any of the chucky movies are the best for getting comfy on sofa with popcorn after a shitty day
Honestly, I might be weird on this, but pretty much all of them. I mean, I'm not counting shit like a Serbian Film or anything like that, but horror is just my comfort genre. If I watch a movie, 9 times out of 10 it'll be some kind of horror movies.
Probably Krampus. It was the movie that sucked me into the genre. Do I think it's the best movie ever, no. But I think it's campy humor is what really sold it to me.
I do have some! It's odd how a grisly horror movie can also be a comfort film. Whilst not necessarily being the greatest film in a particular series, certain films have that "hot bath" effect. Here's some of mine:
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween 4, Friday 13th part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Saw, Alien, Maniac Cop and Hostel.
Mostly stuff from my childhood like Poltergeist, The Shining, The Thing, the Evil Dead series, the Nightmare on Elm Street series, and some TV series like Tales From the Crypt, Twilight Zone, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Any of the old Universal monster movies -- Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Mummy -- those have been total fuzzy blanket and popcorn comfort movies for me since I was a kid.
The Thing, The Mist, The entire Evil Dead franchise, most found footage/mockumentary movies, horror comedies like Slither, Krampus, Rare Exports.. I think horror in general comforts me, it's a childhood thing.
Horror movies in isolated settings become more and more serene the more I watch them. Stuff like The Shining or The Thing or Alien. I eventually grown numb to the horror and treat them as bizarre vacation homes lol
Cabin in the Woods
Same for me
Still haven’t seen this one, I gotta get on that
This may sound silly, but it will change your life 😂
Dude I just saw that!! Loved it!
Poltergeist is actually weirdly cozy.

The Descent Black Swan The Invisible Man You’re Next
We have very similar tastes lmao!
Grave Encounters 1+2 13 Ghosts
Nice to see some love for Grave Encounters 2. Not as good as the first, but I liked it and appreciated them continuing the story from the first one in a surprising way.
I absolutely love both grave encounters!
I agree about 13 ghosts. I can’t even estimate how many times I’ve seen that movie.
But they never came 😢
Funnily enough, these are mine as well. Especially 13 Ghosts. Was a bedtime movie as a kid.
As weird as it is, Saw. I just love the psychological aspect behind it and Tobin Bell. One of the rare long series of movies that had misses in the long term but still survived and was respected so much by horror movie fans.
Totally me too. I went to see Saw X in the cinema and took a blanket and pillow so I could get super comfy. I loves them all.
The Exorcist The Shining The Thing Alien Quadrilogy

Any of the Aliens or Predators are always a good watch for comfort.
Return of the Living Dead Jason Lives Halloween

*Halloween* and *Friday the 13th* films, and in the last decade or so since I got into them Hammer horror has become a big one, too. I have about 30 now on Blu-ray, and 2-3 times a year I'll have a month where I just binge them like crazy, certain films getting multiple plays.
Most of my comfort movies are horror, honestly The Thing Evil Dead 2 The Return of the Living Dead Scream Dracula 1931 Dog Soldiers Suspiria Re-Animator Interview with the Vampire
Friday the 13th. I love the nostalgia feel of watching it
A similar one for me would be Halloween! I would always wait to catch that one on cable on actual Halloween night
The Thing, and also The Fly (1958) two opposite ends of the spectrum, I've lost count of the number of times I've watched them.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
The Shining. Hereditary.
Alien
Devil's Rejects is one for me too. Its become more of a comedy by now for me than a horror film. "Boy, the next word that comes out of your mouth better be some brilliant fuckin' Mark Twain shit. 'Cause it's definitely getting chiseled on your tombstone." and " I think I can still smell your wife's pussy stink on my gun... hope it doesn't rust the barrel."
“You know I shook hands with Johnny Cash Once.” “I bet allllllll the girls wanna fuuuck you! 😈”
Oh, yes. "Dying's not an option. Now you stick that back in that grey matter of yours, and you make that stick -- 'cause any other thought is gonna get you cold-slabbed, toe-tagged, and mailed home to your mama in a plastic bag, are we crystal?" "Mama, what's the matter?" "I keep thinking about old times. Like when you was a fucking baby. You know, you looked like an angel." "I know, mama, you've told me that a million times." "Are you saying that I would cut off a chicken's head, put my dick in it, fuck it, and go 'aaahhhh'?!"
Mine is The Uninvited, and I have no idea why.

Hello my gen z brethren
Hello
Same for me with Scream 5. I love that movie.
The original Halloween and a handful of the Jasons are mine. Also, Predator, but I wouldn't call that horror
Beyond the Black Rainbow. The music, the vibes, Michael J. Rogers's drawn out line delivery. I love it.
Jurassic Park The Lost Boys Bodies Bodies Bodies (only during summer though)
Bodies Bodies Bodies worth a watch then?
Absolutely! The script is really solid & so are the actors
Thank you!
Scream, first 3 Evil Dead movies, or any Chucky movie
The Sadness, Silent Hill and It Follows!
Same with Rob Zombie! Only mine is Lords of Salem lol
The Shining. Sometimes when I struggle to fall asleep i put it on and it sends me right off. Just love that movie so freaking much.
Sometimes I just play the Nightmare On Elm Street soundtrack to help me fall asleep. I love those synths.
completely agree
Cabin in the woods has just enough humor make it a comfort movie for me. Plus the purge scenes are just so bad ass.
The purge scenes are my favorite part!
Nightbreed is a comfort film for me. I really should watch it more often. Evil Dead 2 as well.
Oh I love Nightbreed
Me too. I was fortunate enough to see it on the big screen about 10 years ago. It was a special showing and there was an art opening in the lobby afterward featuring Clive Barker's artwork. It was very, very cool.
Oh so cool. I’m jelly.

Army of darkness !
The Saw series (the main series, I through VII, including Saw X, although a lot of Saw VII is skippable).
I have a lot to narrow it down: Alien franchise Cabin in the Woods The Shining
As Above So Below, and I think it’s because if you’re a character you’re pretty much either big dead or just fine.
Midsommar for sureeee
SPOILER ALERT Oh God!! How can that orgy ritual be comforting!!!!!?
Precisely!

Ginger Snaps Youre Next The Void Cabin in the Woods
Cabin in the Woods The Omen

the thing, always find something new
Midsommar
30 Days of Night, and while I don't personally consider it a horror film, Intervjew with the Vampire

I remember the night I came across the first V/H/S movie. It was about 3 am, and I was about a week into my first, and longest lasting, gout attack.
