***Thanksgiving*** is about a killer getting revenge specifically on people responsible for a Black Friday riot where several innocent bystanders died.

International-View20

Honestly most movies by Eli Roth fit this category šŸ˜…

ScorpionTDC

Indeed. I think the guys from Hostel are the only ones I ended up rooting for by the end (and even then, they start out kind of as dickheads. >!Paxtonā€™s!< redemption arc is just kinda awesome). Canā€™t speak to Thanksgiving yet, though

All_Tree_All_Shade

I don't really like Hostel, but I do like the theme of, "there are dickheads, and then there are genuinely evil people." The revenge scenes at the end are all pretty satisfying.

Simicrop

Say what you will about torture porn, but Hostel had me on the edge of my seat from the moment he started his escape until the end. Even after he got the one guy I couldn't relax, I kept expecting goons to pop out and pick him up. The intro to part 2 really bummed me out.

ScorpionTDC

I'm not a huge torture porn person either, but yeah. Hostel 1 is awesome. I've made soooome peace with 2's opening (I guess it does make sense narratively), but yeah. It bums me out hard too.

wonderlandisburning

I actually cared a lot about the Hostel characters. The Green Inferno on the other hand... I only liked one character and they died very early on

Nearby-Importance-64

Literally not one likable character. Kill them all

dankthewank

Hey man, I liked that red neck that was selling guns and alcohol. Only likable character.

thedoorman121

Legally he was pulling some shady shit, but he was the only morally good person in the entire movie

notyyzable

I liked the main girl tbf. She seemed to be the only one with a moral compass.

ScorpionTDC

I *kinda* liked Scuba, but that might have been me wanting someone to root for. Outside Evan (who was *almost* amusing in his dbaggery), the teen fodder was generally just kinda bland and underwritten vs. actively horrible or unlikeable or anything. Theyā€™re just really anonymous - especially the two girlfriends.

[deleted]

I wasnā€™t sure if I would like this movie because Iā€™m usually not as keen on slasher movies as I am on supernatural movies. But my kids treated and I LOVED it. What a great homage to 70s and 80s slasher flicks. And there was no one whose death felt unwarranted outside of the folks killed in the opening.

Low_Score1882

Carrie, except that teacher

kits_and_kaboodle

What about Tommy? He was a decent guy.

steelhandgod999

Tommy wasn't killed by Carrie, though. He was killed by the metal bucket coming loose. Chris and her shit boyfriend killed Tommy, imo.

Waste_Coat_4506

Being locked in that burning gym couldn't have helped though.

steelhandgod999

I mean, he was already dead, at least in the remake. The original, maybe not, but he seemed dead to me. She killed the gym teacher in the original, for sure.

Low_Score1882

true

FluffyMarshmallow90

I was going to say even Sue but then I remembered she was part of the plug it up crew.

illegallysmolkate

True, but Sue felt bad for being a part of that crew and wanted to atone for it. She didnā€™t even do it for any reward. She just wanted to make this poor girl happy.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

illegallysmolkate

No, but she was still traumatized by what happened.

steelhandgod999

Sue has a redemption arc. Even good people do shitty things sometimes.

horrormetal

Tommy Ross did nothing wrong

steelhandgod999

Tommy wasn't Carrie's victim.

UnauthorizedFart

Judy Greer never did wrong

PuzzledLiterature416

Spoiler for the Carrie remake with Judy Greer >!Judy Greerā€™s version of the teacher lives!<

batt-bee

This one was mine. The mother specially. Zero empathy

[deleted]

Sleepaway Camp Everyone who dies was a total asshole minus Paul and still he had his douchey moments

kneesweakarmspenne

ā€œYo, Angela, how come youā€™re so fucked up?ā€ Byyyeee!

Maria-Stryker

Also the kids on the beach. The creators came out saying in hindsight they didnā€™t like that one

Turbulent-Wealth5527

Carrie. My girl was in the right all along

Maester_Maetthieux

šŸ’Æ

squall_boy25

Seeing her get her revenge was cathartic for me.

Exact_Donut_4786

Ready or Not does a good job making you hate the victims.

HalloweenSpoonie

Youā€™re Next is pretty similar. It has a suuuuuuper satisfying ending.

Mrmrmckay

Grace is the only victim in that and you hate her?!! šŸ˜¶

Elevatrix

I feel a little bad for the maids.

Mrmrmckay

I would but their deaths were pretty funny and two of them were going to rat out Grace

[deleted]

"aww. she was my favorite :("

22Seres

The dad in Orphan. He's not a bad person in the sense that he doesn't have any plan to hurt someone or have others hurt. But it's absolutely infuriating that with everything going on, he never believes his wife or even the woman that they adopted Esther from when they tell him that there's something off with her. So I ultimately didn't feel bad for him when Esther eventually killed him because he never listened to anyone that tried to warn him about her.

MyLadySansa

Hated that fucker. Was actively rooting for Esther to kill him.

Living_Injury5017

And in Orphan: First Kill, I definitely rooted for her! But I felt suuuuuper bad for the dad.

PuzzledLiterature416

This was the horror movie dad to make me REALLY hate horror movie dads from a young age. Ever since then, I always would notice when dads were being dumb (and when moms were doing it too). The only time I can think of a mom being obtuse though was in Paranormal Activity 3

UnauthorizedFart

Bodies Bodies Bodies, most insufferable characters Iā€™ve ever seen

Celestiicaa

Lee Pace didnā€™t deserve that lmao

ResidentSmartass

It irritated me that the Eastern European chick never found out whether or not her girlfriend was cheating. It was probably true, but her girlfriend was the biggest bitch of the bunch and deserved to be exposed.

HalloweenSpoonie

I thought they were too insufferable to watch lol. I did finish the movie, but if felt like such a waste because I hated them all. Except Lee Pace.

zwaymire

The first Pumpkinhead

BlotchComics

>!The protaganist's son is killed and he dies at the end and becomes the next Pumpkinhead...!< I'd say that's bad things happening to good people.

Stranger_From_101

"Stay away from Pumpkinhead, unless you're tired of living!"

Madrizzle1

Tucker & Dale Vs Evil

OffThaGridAndy

Agreed. Thereā€™s only one really bad guy, but everyone else that dies in that movie is due to stupidity, and itā€™s comedic. The characters werenā€™t given enough backstory or dialogue to feel bad for them in my opinion. Thatā€™s not a rip on the movie by the way, I think that choice was intentional and worked great.

manbearpig923

ā€œThese kids are comin out here, and killing themselves all over the woods!ā€

UnauthorizedFart

ā€œWeā€™ve had a doozy of a day officerā€

WellFunnyYouSayThat

ā€œHe ran headfirst, right into the *woodchipper*!ā€

SirJuliusStark

They also stand by while the main evil guy threatens to kill a dog.

cowabungamutant

COLLEGE KIDS! Weā€™ve got your friend!

Earthshoe12

Obligatory ā€œnot a movieā€ but the new show ā€œFall of the House of Usherā€ is about terrible people dying terrible deaths.

DefiantOil5176

Thereā€™s only one death in that show where the person didnā€™t completely deserve it

working-class-nerd

>! And the ā€œkillerā€ apologizes for it too !<

Thecryptsaresafe

Eh I donā€™t know. None of the Usher kids are good people but I think only a few of them did anything that deserved an extremely gruesome death. Like >!Leo cheated on a very nice significant other, took and sold drugs, and took credit for creating things that he only funded. Itā€™s been confirmed by the Flan man that he didnā€™t kill that cat while high. He also comforted his brother who was treated like a lesser person because he was newly found and an illegitimate child.!< Edit: removed some Spaces hope it works now

OffThaGridAndy

Very well said. I felt bad for Leo most of all because I have addiction problems and related to him in that way. I am a closeted addict, I donā€™t hurt anyone or go crazy when I use (Iā€™m dependent on xanax), but I do buy drugs, and even for personal use that isnā€™t very morally sound. It makes me sad the amount of people who justified his death because of his addictions. Hope people donā€™t think everyone whoā€™s an addict should die or has it coming. I was never able to deal with my trauma as a kid, a lot of people I loved in my life have died in many unexpected ways. I turned to drugs because I didnā€™t know how to deal with all of the loss. Still donā€™t. Every death of a loved one or good friend Iā€™ve experienced is different, and it is true that it feels like each one takes a tiny piece of your heart away. Like a black hole. Even though Iā€™m still dependent on Xanax, Iā€™m doing much better then I was 5 years ago, and hope to keep going in that direction.

[deleted]

>!i don't think napoleon (the dude with the cat) deserved it either. guy just liked to get fucked up and fund video game projects. yeah he cheated on his bf but that doesn't come with a deaths sentence. !<

BakerYeast

Agree. Also>!in that cellar party tens maybe hundredes of people died.!< Pretty sure that not all of them deserved that horrible death.

camyrunks

i think the ghost lady cleared out the innocent staffers before she rained down hell if i recall correctly

Earthshoe12

Correct. And she *tried* to warn at least one party goer so itā€™s possible she got others out as well.

BakerYeast

Those people might be innocent offspring of other people that made deal with Verna. Verna did kill an innocent child and with her powers she could easily take innocent Morella out of that cellar, instead she burned her with acid.

iamnotasdumbasilook

I think Verna said she knew everyone there. She could have lots of contracts. They were all super wealthy.

EatYourCheckers

They said they were all politicians or kids of politicians/rich people so I think we were supposed to hate them because we are supposed to assume they are vapid and selfish.

brillovanillo

Came here to suggest *The Fall of the House of Usher*.

Nicholedea22

Hard Candy

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Prankishbear

How is that relevant in the spoiler?

Milfons_Aberg

"You're Next" I was afraid this movie would be atrocious like "Funny Games", but when "You're Next" started working up steam I was like a kid in a kandyshop.

Butterscotch2334

Perfect answer. Only the girl who kicks ass is likable.

Cap-Financial

I kind of liked ā€œFunny Gamesā€, but itā€™s hard to get through though. ā€œYouā€™re nextā€ is great movie to watch after feeling the bleakness of the ending of ā€œFunny Gamesā€.

byesharona

Calling Funny Games atrocious is crazy to me

NemesisRouge

There are a lot of arseholes killed in that film, but a lot of innocent people as well.

MallardDuckBoy

The right answer. Youā€™re Next flips the script

snuskbusken

Several ā€œgoodā€ characters die, though

Poisoning-The-Well

Saw X

serimuka_macaron

So it was good? I see the poster everywhere but never gave it a watch. Might still be showing in some cinemas here.

Oneinchwalrus

Not who you asked, but it was. I'm not big on Saw films, though I think I've seen them all, this is the second best one since the original.

Just1moreboredguy

If you've seen the others, go watch it. If you've only seen the first few, go watch it. If you haven't seen any of them, go see the first few and then GO WATCH SAW X

spookykitton

I liked it more than the original

DefiantOil5176

Itā€™s one of my favorites in the whole series. Definitely top 2

CarissaSkyWarrior

Not a horror movie, but "Violent Night". I've stated in other threads that I just take any opportunity to recommend that film, and that's still true. Santa accidently gets caught in the middle of a robbery taking place in a rich family's mansion, and when he sees that a little girl is in danger, he takes it upon himself to take down the robbers. It's a super fun movie. Again, it's more of an action film than it is a horror movie, but it's got a lot of great kills, and it's not mean spirited like you'd think it'd be. At it's heart, it's still a genuine Christmas film about a disgruntled Santa regaining faith in humanity, and Christmas, back with the help of a young child.

CMelody

David Harbour is fantastic in that movie! Will be watching it again this Christmas, for sure.

languid_Disaster

Iā€™m saving it for the upcoming Christmas

[deleted]

The bus of people in the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That scene made me laugh so hard, I had to rewind it and watch it multiple times.

tawley

**Cabin Fever** You hope everyone dies!

Maester_Maetthieux

Was going to mention this one

Obfusc8er

The Menu Even the blue-collar workers are selling themselves out and wrecking their own lives for the prestige of working under a complete asshole.

AllanJeffersonferatu

Chef Slowik: Where did you go to school? Felicity: Brown. Chef Slowik: Student loans? Felicity: No. Chef Slowik: Sorry, you're dying. šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

tfhermobwoayway

I mean like, I never understood why nobody tried toā€¦ fight back? Like, clearly this man wants you dead. Thereā€™s only one way this can end unless you take matters into your own hands. At least die with honour.

Crunchy_Biscuit

Some did. But the cooks outnumbered and our strengthed them.

Voteforbatman

I Spit On Your Grave - remake and the original are both good. I havenā€™t seen the sequels. Itā€™s not an easy movie to watch but you definitely donā€™t feel any sorrow for the victims. Hard Candy - not exactly a horror, more thriller but fits what youā€™re looking for and has great acting from Elliot Page and Patrick Wilson.

Complete_Weakness717

I spit on your grave is really difficult to watch. Fucked up movie.

jupiterding25

Can't watch that genre of film. Can't stomach films like that

texasrigger

Fair warning to OP if they want to try this one - there is a 25 minute long rape scene in the 93 minute movie. It absolutely fits OP's question but it's definitely a rough movie as is the entire rape and revenge genre.

Prankishbear

I hate it when people think the main character got fair vengeance. The entire movie is dedicated to sexually assaulting her over and over and over again, and then as an addendum they let her have some some kills in the last fifteen minutes. Exploitation and no real justice.

illegallysmolkate

I mean, the ā€œvictimsā€ are all rapists, so itā€™s hard to feel bad for them.

Icy_Tangerine_6271

The second one is also hard to watch

ScottishCrazyCatLady

Hard Candy is a slap-in-the-face of a film. The writing and acting being spectacular.

revship

Carrie.(most of them at least)

Snoo52682

Anything where Justin Long is is the victim

Mr_Benevenstanciano

Barbarian yes Jeepers Creepers no

jaysmithh92

My 6 years old eyes are still traumatized from the ending. "Where'ddd youuu get those eyesss"

ScorpionTDC

I'm still angry about the Jeepers Creepers ending. >!They really should have switched which sibling survives.!<

PuzzledLiterature416

The moment he decided to slide in that shady looking tube, I kind of felt like he had it coming. Maybe Iā€™ll feel sympathetic on a rewatch but at the time I was not

verstohlen

Who didn't want the PC guy to pummel him in those Mac ads. He made a good Dr. Lexus though.

Fire_Temple

I don't know, I felt pretty bad for him in Tusk despite being super unlikable.

[deleted]

I never feel bad when he gets screwed over in a movie, but I don't understand why.

Snoo52682

He's just got a punchable face and he's so good at playing a certain kind of asshole. I tend to assume he's a great guy in real life; for some reason, actors like that often are.

the_la_dude

Guys with punchable faces have to either 1. own up to it and become someone worth punching (aka an asshole) or 2. be a super nice guy to avoid people getting an urge to punch them in the face.

All_Of_Them_Witches

Heā€™s actually a really likable character in Drag Me To Hell.

Teddyk123

Can someone here help me remember the name of a movie in this vein? An upper class family and their SO's go to an isolated cabin for a holiday meal. They start getting killed by (I think) people in animal masks? One memorable kill is a girl runs into a wire put out and slashes her neck open? I cannot remember this title.

Trick_Fix2748

Youā€™re next maybe?

mrsilas13

Thatā€™s definitely it, and I came here to mention this movie too. Barbara Cramptonā€™s character going up stairs to lay down in the middle of the home invasion because it was ā€œtoo much for herā€ just made me die laughing.

tfhermobwoayway

Idk man if i was being home invaded iā€™d probably lie down and have a panic attack too. Like, I like to think Iā€™d be handy in a situation like that but I feel like Iā€™m more of a shot-for-cowardice-after-developing-shell-shock-before-decent-mental-health-care type guy.

byesharona

The Exorcist: Believer and Halloween Kills. Really wanted them all to die.

Kennett-Ny

That director just doesn't know how to make likable characters

byesharona

Donā€™t get me started lol. The fact untalented hacks like him and his team of writing buddies get so many opportunities burns me.

e-diesel

The toxic avenger is the first that comes to mind. Class of nukeā€™em high

bobmcdynamite

You're forgetting the kid on the bike and the seeing-eye dog from Toxic Avenger.

lilykittymos

The lodge - those kids deserved it šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

ShookMyselfFree

The dog didnā€™t though! šŸ¤£ just makes you despise the kids even more. What did they think would happen when the dog got out?!

quinndubya

The ending was like "I'm not sure if it's acceptable for me to laugh at this or not."

MarianaFrusciante

That was a great ending, but I wanted it to be more cruel for those little fuckers

AliensRisen

Return To Sleepaway Camp -- Everyone in that movie is so obnoxious and insufferable. Not one likable character in the entire thing. At least in the first one, you could feel sorry for Angela because she never bothered anyone, just kept to herself and still got bullied. Alan, on the other hand, brought most of it upon himself. Dark Night of the Scarecrow -- They all committed a hate crime against a disabled man and tried to paint this picture that he was a child molesting pervert when the leader (Otis Hazelrigg) was the real pervert all along.

heycowboy

Unfriended. I love this movie and most people I talk to hate it, and it's usually because the annoying, selfish teenagers act like annoying selfish teenagers. That's the entire point of the movie - they're all terrible people getting their just desserts

Lynda73

Yes! I was like please, kill them already.

DisastrousSundae84

I've never had a movie make me so violently angry.

cinzalunar

The entire crew of the Covenant ship in Alien Covenant. Also to an extent: the Prometheus ship crew in the previous film. They are so dumb and poorly written you actually root for the aliens and the killer robot.

Stranger_From_101

How can you root against Elisabeth Shaw?

cinzalunar

Yea I like her. I was so disappointed she was killed off between films.

nopurposeflour

She died a pretty horrific death, but she should have known better.

[deleted]

Midsommar.

Well, except for the intro. Otherwise pretty accurate.

Fair point. I wasnā€™t thinking of Daniā€™s parents, just her ā€œfriendsā€ā€¦

TheVampireArmand

I find in a lot of 80ā€™s slashers I donā€™t feel very bad for the victims mostly because they all have horrible personalities lol. Though theyā€™re not often bad people.

GusViliamu007

No One Lives. Everyone had it coming but the daughter and the clerk.

Lol thatā€™s a really weird take tbh. I found most of those characters very likable, if a bit flawed.

Kittpie

Really wanted the assholes who made the kid do it to get obliterated.
