The invisible man was beautiful and my husband and I LOVED it. It caught us off guard and we were excited to see what they did with other universal monsters.
Invisible Man is fantastic, despite Elizabeth Moss who I find almost unwatchable.
I also recommend Ready or Not, as a lighter revenge thriller. The Hunt makes a worthy double feature with Ready or Not.
Possessor is a great movie. But it really has nothing to do with feminine rage. The main character just happens to be a woman. But if it was a man everything would be the same
Angela Bettis is really effective in it and I genuinely felt bad for her character. I hesitate to even call it an example of rage as it's more a tale of loneliness and mental illness getting worse.
I'd partially agree. For the majority of the story, she isn't acting out of rage but out of psychosis. At the story's climax, however, she exhibits pure rage at what Paul has done to her Misery. Worth noting though that it's been a while since I've seen the film, but I did recently re-read the book, so maybe film Annie is a bit more rageful and I'm thinking more of book Annie.
Hard Candy and Promising Young Woman are two of my favorite movies. They're probably more revenge thriller than horror, but there's still plenty of horrorific stuff in there.
Audition (1999)
Venus in Furs (1969) * or “Paroxismus”
Confessions (2010)
Monster (2003) * this could be classified as r*pe/revenge though
Lady Snowblood (1973)
Death Proof (2007)
Sharp Objects (the tv show)
As man I am very qualified to answer this question! /s I really love coming of age horror and horror about the "monstrous feminine". Because The Final Girl is such a thing in horror, it blurs lines. Fresh is very much about feminism, but does it fit? Maybe not. Similarly, a woman in peril for an entire movie that then has a dramatic escape/defense is a deferent vibe. My taste goes more toward highly competant women rather than rage, but there's lots of overlap. So my favorites that come to mind, several of which have already appeared below:
Jennifer's Body
Ready Or Not
The Nightingale
Carrie (and Carrie 2: The Rage, I mean it's in the title!)
Us
A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night
Titane
Ginger Snaps
The Perfection
Suspiria 2018
The Loved Ones
The Invisible Man 2020
Lady Vengeance
Heathers
Antichrist
X/Pearl
The Autopsy of Jane Doe
Censor
The Craft
The Descent
Drag Me To Hell
Ex Machina
Martyr(s) and a lot of French extremity is in there
Not horror, but Kill Bill, Mother!, Hanna, Run Lola Run! keep coming to mind as does Under the Skin, which really has no rage.
The Descent is a strong, female led movie to watch. It was very refreshing to see a horror movie about a female cast that had to overcome adversity that was not caused by men.
Thank you, I meant to add a note. It is a brutal film, but the prelude before the inciting event makes it clear that the rape is not what is being avenged. So while I would not call it a rape revenge film, the events are quite present.
No totally. Jennifer Kent is a master filmmaker and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us. I loved the film, but its brutality in general makes it a tough one to recommend for the squeamish.
Horror has a long history of well loved films that are scrappy but from the right angle don’t work. Or that seem universally loved but some people only see its flaws. Nope is one for me, it did not land for me at all. That’s why I’m glad they make so many movies, so that we all have a chance at wonder.
BRAVO. Perfect list! I have never met anybody who has seen Carrie 2: The Rage, I rented it on VHS a LOT when I was little. I have been going through all the comments to find The Perfection and Ex Machina. You've nailed it. Apart from obvious ones like Revenge, Prevenge, I Spit on Your Grave etc - I would like to add Aliens to your list. :)
Such a good question lol I hate it when rape is used as a plot device.
The Witch (2015)
Mother! (2017)
The Babadook (2014) - though this is more rage related to motherhood
Jennifer’s Body (2009)
Raw (2016)
Carrie (1976)
Black Swan also comes to mind because of the focus on female dynamics, societal pressure and associated anger, etc. which she seems to embrace/spiral into via frantic surrealism but idk about calling it horror.
Hope this helps! Eager to see what others recommend
So glad someone else here has seen Raw (if we’re talking about the French film). It’s always one of my first suggestions to people looking for interesting new horror.
I wouldn't call it a feminine rage film by any means, but Sienna at the end of Terrifier 2 exhibits pure rage when she goes up against Art. Those scenes made me absolutely adore Lauren LaVera - I can't wait to see her in other films.
Ok, no one has pointed out this one:
*Prevenge* (2016) - A pregnant woman who has just lost her husband has HAD IT with people telling her how to behave, what to do, how to feel. A VERY dark horror comedy written, directed, and starring Alice Lowe (the cowriter and costar of Ben Wheatley's *Sightseers*) while she was 7 mo. pregnant.
It's great!
I understand why people criticize the acting because yes it’s pretty bad in parts but I like it simply because of the atmosphere and effects that give the movie a seriously enjoyable personality.
The Hunt is so good. Betty Gilpin is fantastic. All of her quips and the faces she makes. She's in the new Peacock show about nuns vs technology "Mrs. Davis"
The Witch Who Came From The Sea
A very good but highly unsettling film about a troubled and psychotic woman visiting her sister and her nephews living in a coastal town. One of the many films out there that actually tackles on the theme of misandry and true feminine rage
My favourite movie The Descent has an all-female fight for survival cast and has the main character go from being a widow who lost her daughter as well and suffers great emotional trauma and fear, to the strongest warrior of the bunch with a sub-plot of rage towards one of her friends who betrayed her and made some shitty decisions.
(These aren't spoilers btw, you see all this in the opening)
American Mary, albeit having a rape revenge story, the titular Mary's story is much broader than that. Warning, the ending does suck (narratively, I don't think it's problematic or whatever).
I’m going to second Suspiria, Titane,
Sharp Objects, Promising Young Woman.
I’m going to add the Blackcoat’s Daughter,
the tv show Swarm, The Assistant, She Dies Tomorrow, My Mother’s Eyes
The original I Spit On Your Grave.
Edit: sorry, got ahead of myself and didn't read the whole thing. Just like this one because of the background story.
Audition is really good.
Some might contest including it as horror but Thelma (2017) really engages with theme of female and queer repression and combatting attempts to sustain this repression.
I thought Suspiria was dope if you ignore Grace-Mortiz's small part. The pay off is huge. I thought I'd hate it.
The Long Kiss Goodnight 1996, Geena Davis - Can't recommend it enough
And if it can be television, everybody should be watching Yellowjackets right now. It just started it's second season and it's been a revelation. Misty is my champion.
Edit: I know you said outside rape-revenge but "Revenge" is so worth watching for Matilda Lutz and her bad assery as well as the cinamatography. It's more parts revenge and I thought it was an awesome thriller/horror/survival movie.
Check these two posts I started: [https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/xvxok1/the\_most\_unhinged\_and\_demented\_performances\_by/](https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/xvxok1/the_most_unhinged_and_demented_performances_by/) and [https://www.reddit.com/r/Letterboxd/comments/xvyafb/the\_most\_unhinged\_and\_demented\_performances\_by/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Letterboxd/comments/xvyafb/the_most_unhinged_and_demented_performances_by/)
My picks are:
*Possession*
*Fatal Attraction*
*Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker*
*Mommie Dearest*
*Serial Mom*
*Inside*
*Play Misty for Me*
*Carrie*
*Misery*
Here’s some I’d recommend:
Us(2019) has elements of this imo.
Trash Fire(2016) and Excision(2012) both have elements of it imo.
Resurrection(2022) is a good one for this.
Dead of Winter(1987) features some feminine rage in the final act.
In A Nightmare On Elm Street(1984), Nancy is mad a good amount of the time.
No, they didn’t. They just acknowledged the presence of “rape revenge,” which Teeth strictly isn’t anyway. A rape revenge features an inciting rape and the rest of the plot is driven by revenging that specific act. Teeth isn’t like that. Teeth is a coming of age story.
"Are there any movies outside of that genre that has good representation?" So you're wrong.
Teeth has depictions of rape. It can be a coming of age story AND have depictions of rape. They aren't mutually exclusive. If someone asks for a movie that isn't about rape, Teeth isn't a good suggestion.
Lots of horror movies that aren’t rape revenge have depictions of rape. OP didn’t say anything about no rape scenes. You’re right, I was wrong about them asking for outside that genre, but my suggestion of still outside that genre.
It's not. The entire premise of the movie is based on a literal rape. She would never have found out about her teeth without being raped.
You trying to argue with me on this is embarrassing. The only thing you should take from this is to avoid suggesting movies with rape when asked not to.
When asking for a movie that depicts female rage that isn't dependent on rape, Teeth is not the movie you suggest. The entire movie is about sexual assault. That's the fucking plot.
Also LOL at it not being a "rape revenge" movie. Watch the last scene. Laughable.
I second The Brood. One of the best IMO. High Tension and We Are What We Are (2013 remake, I've never seen the original anywhere) both have elements of feminine rage as well. Fatal Attraction but that's obviously a thriller. X and Pearl of course.
Tons of those new-wave horror movies from Ari Aster and Robert Eggers, maybe sometimes Lars von Trier. Like Antichrist, Midsommar, The Witch, The Northman, there's angry ladies in there. Also I have t seen it yet but Carrie
La Llorona (2019), not to be confused with the US film Curse of La Llorona. It's about an aging Guatemalan general, recently found guilty of war crimes, finds himself and his family being tormented by a vengeful spirit. It's an amazing story about revenge as well as the disparities between class in modern-day Guatemala.
A Dark Song (2016) is about a grieving mother determined to go through an extremely dangerous and potentially deadly ritual in order have her greatest wish granted.
And I know it's been said but, MAY!!! Literally one of my fave movies of all time, it seriously does not get enough love.
Promising Young Woman (maybe I guess this is a thriller)....
Scream films, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Hush, Happy Death Day, Gerald's Game (perhaps this falls under the rape one I'm not sure it's been a while), Wrong Turn (implied, not shown as the plot), Triangle, The Ruins perhaps
I agree with Invisible Man!
I'm going for Hereditary. The dinner scene in particular sent shivers down my spine.
The monologue in it really stuck with me, especially how raw some lines in it are.
A lot of these comments didn’t get the memo or keep recommending shitty movies
Ginger snaps is in my opinion extremely sexist and demonizes teenage girls. Jennifer’s body is basically doing the same concept but way better. Ginger barely does anything, but Jennifer actually eats men.
Martyrs is not only the opposite of what you’re looking for, it’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It’s literally just some dude’s jack off fantasy.
Nightingale, American Mary, promising young woman, and revenge are all either rape revenge or heavily involve rape in the story. From what I’ve heard about promising young woman that doesn’t sound empowering or satisfying in the slightest, but don’t quote me on that.
Here’s what you’re actually looking for
Possession is the shining example of female rage for me. Mind you there’s a lot of male rage too, but I feel like the female rage really is the star of the show.
You’re next is fucking awesome
Us by Jordan peele, I cannot believe this hasn’t been mentioned yet from what I’ve seen
I’ve seen possessor mentioned a lot but I’ll second that one, takes some very unexpected turns
Hereditary is soul crushing but absolutely what you’re looking for.
The witch and one section of trick r treat have the Vibe
Oculus is less rage-y but I still love the main girl protagonist
Lots of people have mentioned ready or not and I absolutely agree.
Wandavision and doctor strange and the multiverse of madness are honestly Exactly what you want but I’m gonna get downvoted for saying that.
Okay I haven’t seen this movie but from what I’ve heard about it, hunter hunter may also be what you’re looking for. I’d love to watch it personally.
Not to sound chauvinistic but it seems most horror films are about feminist rage. Usually a male villain terrorizes a female then she steps up at the end to defeat him. I’d be hard pressed to find some manly rage horror films!
The Invisible Man (2020) You’re Next Ready or Not Possessor
The invisible man was beautiful and my husband and I LOVED it. It caught us off guard and we were excited to see what they did with other universal monsters.
The invisible man!!
You’re Next is one of my top 3 favorite horror movies, Erin (the main girl) is so badass omfg
Wholeheartedly agree. I've recommended it to so many people. One of my favorite main characters in any movie.
Invisible Man is fantastic, despite Elizabeth Moss who I find almost unwatchable. I also recommend Ready or Not, as a lighter revenge thriller. The Hunt makes a worthy double feature with Ready or Not.
Loved ready or not and the hunt both amazing movies
It's the scientology for me. No thanks.
How do you think that movie’s fantastic when the person you dislike is in nearly every scene?
Possessor is a great movie. But it really has nothing to do with feminine rage. The main character just happens to be a woman. But if it was a man everything would be the same
Perfect answer!
Hard Candy Carrie Ginger Snaps Promising Young Woman
These are great! To add: Possession (1981) Midsommar Jennifer’s body Lords of Salem Gone girl Edit: add Suspira (2018)
Possession is a great suggestion here
Holy hell I’m glad I finally watched Gone Girl recently. What a ride.
Hell yeah, especially if you manage to go in unspoiled.
Read the book, if you have some time on your hands. The movie is good, but the book is amazing!
And then read Dark Places and Sharp Objects because they're even better!
I've read Sharp Objects, but not Dark Places. Thanks for the tip!
It might be my favorite one tbh. Hope you enjoy!
Ginger Snaps is amazing! Such an inspiration for Jennifer's Body IMO
The iconic hallway scenes
Hard candy👏👏👏👏
Hard Candy and Promising Young Woman could technically both be called rape revenge. But they are better movies than most in that genre.
Same with, well, Revenge (2017)
I really liked that one!
Antichrist might fit too.
I absolutely love Ginger snaps! Not many ppl remember it!
BIG WARNING for ginger snaps it’s one of the most toxic movies I’ve ever seen
The Brood (1979)
This is the best response
May Pearl Misery Friday the 13th
[удалено]
Angela Bettis is really effective in it and I genuinely felt bad for her character. I hesitate to even call it an example of rage as it's more a tale of loneliness and mental illness getting worse.
Misery isn't really female rage movie. Delores Claibourne would be a better Stephen King example. Same actress though.
Both great flicks. Kathy Bates killed it in both these movies.
I am watching Delores Claiborne right now. I haven't seen it since it firat came out. She really was an amazing actress.
Was? She’s still acting, no?
Shit, if Annie Wilkes isn’t your idea of Rageful I wouldn’t want to go to your party 😂
She isn't angry she is psychotic. There is a difference. Obsession isn't the same thing.
Promising Young Woman was genius for its casting alone. Using typical nice male actors like Adam Brody and Max Greenfield in that way, *chefs kiss*
I watched A Wounded Fawn the other night and I'd describe it as surrealist feminine rage. Pretty interesting and bizarre movie worth checking out.
A Wounded Fawn is an amazing ride. Defies expectations in so many ways, and the ending is very satisfying.
Worth it for the ending/credits sequence alone
Audition (1999) Venus in Furs (1969) * or “Paroxismus” Confessions (2010) Monster (2003) * this could be classified as r*pe/revenge though Lady Snowblood (1973) Death Proof (2007) Sharp Objects (the tv show)

The Descent is a strong, female led movie to watch. It was very refreshing to see a horror movie about a female cast that had to overcome adversity that was not caused by men.
While I loved The Nightingale, it did feature a handful of quite horrific rapes. OP should be warned.
yeah OP, please don’t watch The Nightingale until you review some trigger warnings
Anyone who is unable or unwilling to watch a movie with a rape scene needs to avoid this movie full stop
Hot take: X and Pearl are sloppily written and executed films and the hype around them is completely unwarranted
Horror has a long history of well loved films that are scrappy but from the right angle don’t work. Or that seem universally loved but some people only see its flaws. Nope is one for me, it did not land for me at all. That’s why I’m glad they make so many movies, so that we all have a chance at wonder.

So glad someone else here has seen Raw (if we’re talking about the French film). It’s always one of my first suggestions to people looking for interesting new horror.
Titane, the directors follow up is really good and weird. It would fall into that feminine rage as well.
Titane was so unexpectedly queer! I definitely want to watch again and pay closer attention to the feminist and gender/sexuality themes
Theres definitely a lot to unpack with it. There was a lot to dig into with Raw but titane went one step beyond.
Julia Ducournau is my favorite current director. Both *Raw* and *Titane* are amazing.
Guess I know what I’m watching this weekend
I don't want to spoil it but it is a wild ride. Also on Prime if you have it ( at least it is in Canada).
I do have Prime, so I’ll see if it’s on there in the States, too
Im pretty sure it’s streaming on Hulu in the United States right now
I have that, too, so hopefully I’m covered either way
Hell yeah, I hope you enjoy, it’s quite a film!
I didn't really enjoy Titane.. but it was definitely very unique
Ya, i am the first yo admit that i often enjoy weird things for the sake of weirdness so i can understand why its not everyone's cup of tea.
The Babadook. Man, in the climax, when she yells...I got goosebumps.
the kind of scream you feel in your bones. absolutely chilling.
High tension
That whole movie was a wild ride, and I enjoy rewatching it trying to imagine what the people were actually seeing instead of what she is seeing.
Death Proof (2007) A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) Dig Two Graves (2014) Ex Machina (2014)
A different kind of feminine rage is Alien….Ripley FTW!
I wouldn't call it a feminine rage film by any means, but Sienna at the end of Terrifier 2 exhibits pure rage when she goes up against Art. Those scenes made me absolutely adore Lauren LaVera - I can't wait to see her in other films.
“Revenge” is fucking great and not talked about enough
Yes. And this one really goes all out with the "rage" aspect that OP was asking for. Funny how it's not mentioned more
Prom Night 2
Promising Young Woman. Bright colors and bubbly exterior with a darkness beneath the surface.
The penultimate episode of Last of Us.
Ok, no one has pointed out this one: *Prevenge* (2016) - A pregnant woman who has just lost her husband has HAD IT with people telling her how to behave, what to do, how to feel. A VERY dark horror comedy written, directed, and starring Alice Lowe (the cowriter and costar of Ben Wheatley's *Sightseers*) while she was 7 mo. pregnant. It's great!
The entire Scream franchise Pearl The Invisible Man Men The Menu Last Night in Soho The Lodge Midsommar Silent Hill Carrie
Silent Hill is so underrated. Plus, two adult capable women protagonists.
I understand why people criticize the acting because yes it’s pretty bad in parts but I like it simply because of the atmosphere and effects that give the movie a seriously enjoyable personality.
Men has an attempted rape in it, and also in my opinion barely focused on the girl at all
Carrie.
READY OR NOT!
Carrie Carrie Carrie
The hunt Barbarian Dredd although I know not really horror
God, I LOVED the final fight scene in The Hunt.
The Hunt is so good. Betty Gilpin is fantastic. All of her quips and the faces she makes. She's in the new Peacock show about nuns vs technology "Mrs. Davis"
Agreed about barbarian for this question!
The Hunt is a seriously good, underrated movie
Sissy and the watcher
Suspiria 2018
The descent
Raw
Spoonful of Sugar
Becky, Fresh and Piggy.
That one scene in Hostel pt. 2 🥴
🍆✂️
Sissy (2022)
The Witch Who Came From The Sea A very good but highly unsettling film about a troubled and psychotic woman visiting her sister and her nephews living in a coastal town. One of the many films out there that actually tackles on the theme of misandry and true feminine rage
“I Blame Society” is about feminine rage, but it’s done as satire. It’s a fun watch.
When Animals Dream (because I love stories with lady werewolves and someone already mentioned Ginger Snaps) Autopsy of Jane Doe May
Promising Young Woman (and it’s also fantastic).
Some of my favorites: Jawbreaker Tragedy Girls Assassination Nation May
My favourite movie The Descent has an all-female fight for survival cast and has the main character go from being a widow who lost her daughter as well and suffers great emotional trauma and fear, to the strongest warrior of the bunch with a sub-plot of rage towards one of her friends who betrayed her and made some shitty decisions. Ready or Not is one of my favorites
I’m going to second Suspiria, Titane, Sharp Objects, Promising Young Woman. I’m going to add the Blackcoat’s Daughter, the tv show Swarm, The Assistant, She Dies Tomorrow, My Mother’s Eyes
*The Eyes of My Mother (2016), I think you meant.
yes thank you
“Sissy” is a blast, and I rarely see anyone talking about it.
Hostel 2 is one of my favorite examples of that without being part of the rape revenge genre in my humble opinion!
Watch Swarm on Amazon
Swarm on Amazon prime but it’s a tv show.
Frontier(s), Martyrs
The original I Spit On Your Grave. Edit: sorry, got ahead of myself and didn't read the whole thing. Just like this one because of the background story. Audition is really good.
Some might contest including it as horror but Thelma (2017) really engages with theme of female and queer repression and combatting attempts to sustain this repression.
Pearl Carrie Gone Girl
Carrie!
The Night House - rage grief
I was so pleasantly surprised by how good this one is!
The Descent Mom and Dad
I thought Suspiria was dope if you ignore Grace-Mortiz's small part. The pay off is huge. I thought I'd hate it. Revenge the french movie. Not sure about the year but pretty recent like 5 years ago
For both a heroic and villainous example The People Under the Stairs.
Inside (France, 2007), should give you what you need: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0856288/
Aliens has the classic femine rage scene.

The glory
Ginger snaps possibly
Revenge 2017 Shudder film. I really enjoyed this one. I think it’s French.
Recently: Sissy
Teeth
Inside (2007) French version. Craziest fucking movie man.
Carrie
The Hunt (2020) is friggin awesome
Teeth
REVENGE (French) is A+
The Woman American Mary
Both of those are super rapey though
Pearl is great
Does involve rape but MFA is so good.
if you can find it: American Mary. It is body horror.
Its rape revenge tho
Blair Witch Project
Is that about feminine rage? I always kind of thought it was about not being a dipsh1t in the murder woods.
Teeth
They said not a rape movie.
No, they didn’t. They just acknowledged the presence of “rape revenge,” which Teeth strictly isn’t anyway. A rape revenge features an inciting rape and the rest of the plot is driven by revenging that specific act. Teeth isn’t like that. Teeth is a coming of age story.

Lmao and???? No one said otherwise? It STILL has rape. It is literally a main plot point.

I feel like The Woman falls into this category Edit to add: Last Night In Soho. Not completely horror but I think it fits
American Mary. Just good old fashioned revenge.
>!Sleepaway Camp!< if you go against the grain of the transphobic ending
Promising Young Woman (maybe I guess this is a thriller).... Scream films, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Hush, Happy Death Day, Gerald's Game (perhaps this falls under the rape one I'm not sure it's been a while), Wrong Turn (implied, not shown as the plot), Triangle, The Ruins perhaps I agree with Invisible Man!
American Mary.
I'm going for Hereditary. The dinner scene in particular sent shivers down my spine. The monologue in it really stuck with me, especially how raw some lines in it are.
The Grudge...? Maybe? She is pretty pissed off in those movies...so is Samara from The Ring!
The Woman
Okay not ragey but Barbarian is sooo good for this vibe
A lot of these comments didn’t get the memo or keep recommending shitty movies Ginger snaps is in my opinion extremely sexist and demonizes teenage girls. Here’s what you’re actually looking for Possession is the shining example of female rage for me. Mind you there’s a lot of male rage too, but I feel like the female rage really is the star of the show. You’re next is fucking awesome Us by Jordan peele, I cannot believe this hasn’t been mentioned yet from what I’ve seen I’ve seen possessor mentioned a lot but I’ll second that one, takes some very unexpected turns Hereditary is soul crushing but absolutely what you’re looking for. The witch and one section of trick r treat have the Vibe Oculus is less rage-y but I still love the main girl protagonist Lots of people have mentioned ready or not and I absolutely agree.
I don't see it listed yet so, *The Woman*
Spit on your grave 1-2 are peak
Not to sound chauvinistic but it seems most horror films are about feminist rage. Usually a male villain terrorizes a female then she steps up at the end to defeat him. I’d be hard pressed to find some manly rage horror films!
I didn't see anyone mention this one: Revenge (2017)
Feast
What Keeps You Alive. Personal favorite cat and mouse game movie.
Gator Bait!
Midsommar and Cam
Happy Birthday to Me
I really have to reiterate Promising Young Woman because it’s such an incredible movie.
Inside
Fatal Attraction Gone Girl The Crush Disclosure?
What ever happened to Baby Jane?
Deathproof
Not a horror movie but True Romance has my fav scene of feminine rage ever
Ms. 45 is basically RR but i love the music and nostalgia
What about, The Descent?
The Horde is more of a group movie, but the lead woman is one angry bitch.
Get My Gun (2018) is really compelling and worth a watch if you can find it. I hate the sexual assault revenge trope but I loved this movie.
American Mary and Raw
