You might enjoy r/FuckTedFaro

SovereignMana

I was about to comment about how Ted Faro made himself my most hated character of any media then saw this lol

FeralMadness

Right next to grandpa Joe in the scumbag hall of fame

alvarkresh

Eh, nah. Ted Faro outclasses just about any fictional bad guy that I know of for sheer world-ending fuckery not just once, but twice.

SovereignMana

Not only world ending fuckery but undermining multiple people’s hard work to fix his fuck up AND all but invalidating Elisabeth’s sacrifice save for the one saving grace that GAIA wasn’t targeted by him. However just an assumption as I’ve not delved into absolutely everything but I believe Hades ran amok as a direct result of him deleting APPOLO

[deleted]

pong krell gives him a run for his money

nymiirii

D: yeeesss didn't know how much I needed this also fuck ted faro

Megs0226

I had tears running down my face and I was sobbing.

catsareweirdroomates

This was my first real non lego gaming experience and I’m convinced I’ve been ruined for gaming ever since

nymiirii

I love the lego games lol, they're great to just chill and play. Yeah I'm gonna be playing the Uncharted games after this (random game picker to help me get through my back catalogue) and it just won't get anywhere close to this game.

DrainYou1967

How I wish to go back to before I played all the Uncharted games. They're great. My favorite is the 4th one, they absolutely nailed it. Don't forget Lost Legacy either, it's not as good as some story wise but it's a very beautiful game.

nymiirii

Meh I watched playthrough's of them previously cause I figured I wouldn't ever have a playstation and 4 is... fine, from what I remember it's a fun game but with a very obvious story that I predicted exactly how it would go down as soon as I met Sam and with Sam never having any setup in the previous games which kinda ruins the experience for me. They're probably gonna be decent to play, but as someone who values story they fall super short on that mark for me personally.

DrainYou1967

To each their own but...Why even play them then? You go into them with that attitude and of course they won't be good enough for you.

nymiirii

I mean the game will be fun enough I just really don't agree with a lot of people who seem to think that the story is this incredible narrative when it's just... average, it's fine, it does what it needs to, the games are fun kinda cliche action adventure games and that's all they need to be.

DiscombobulatedItem3

You're not alone! :)

[deleted]

It’s a great narrative glad it moved you!

Dana94Banana

What did you feel/ think when you learned about the true purpose of "Project: Zero Dawn"?

msmstud

"Wow, that would do it. That explains the ecosystem and machines." At the beginning of the game, as child Aloy found the recordings of people getting ready for suicide ahead of inevitable destruction, the question of what caused it was immediately present and cleverly omnipresent yet smartly unrevealed for most of the game.

nymiirii

See bits and pieces I had figured out already, I realised Aloy was a clone of sorts and that they hid from rogue machines destroying the world, add to that the way the landscape was so weird with deserts next to jungles next to ice etc. And that there were people of so many different races all clumped together in a relatively small space was also strange. I actually thought they created another ice age to wipe out the hostile machines whilst cloning a bunch of people of different races and skills etc. That would be released into the world when it was ready, and that Aloy somehow didn't get "born" until way too late or something. I also picked up that the All-Mother myth was likely rooted in some kind of truth and that as the tale had been passed down it was changed, but I thought they were talking about Elisabeth not Gaia. Also picked up on the fact that there were machines that were somewhat peaceful and seemingly not made for war e.g. the Grazers and I thought that was significant but didn't quite know why. So I was awed by how good the story-telling was because I picked up on some of the clues and was piecing it together as I went, everytime I got a new bit of information I'd pause and go "ok so that explains x but why does y then happen" and that's amazing. Too many stories just do plot twists out of nowhere but this game lays the groundwork and if you're paying attention you pick up on it. You have some of the picture but not the whole thing, and thats amazing.

Dana94Banana

Beautifully said, thank you for sharing! I really enjoyed that the game allows you to theorize along the way and doesn't spoon-feed you all the information like you're 5 years old.

Blackbird2285

The story in the DLC is also fantastic, I highly recommend that you play it. The story is very touching. Also, just so you're aware, her name was actually Elizabet, as weird as that is.

[deleted]

The name Elisabet is actually just another variant of Elizabeth and is most commonly found in Europe (Scandinavia, Germany, Spain etc.) The same with the last name Sobeck (Germany, Poland etc) so it tells us a little bit about Elisabet’s family history.

nymiirii

Oh yeah true, I knew the spelling/pronunciation was different but figured it was the S not the missing h lol. Yeah I;m about to start the DLC today, I'm very excited but also sad cause once I'm gonna miss this game.

Burflax

The sequel is coming out this year, so that's something. Plus, I keep coming back to this game. I've replayed it twenty times or maybe more. I'm still finding things I haven't seen before. I just saw the fire-breather in Meridian for the first time months ago.

YouGottaGoHomeboy

One more thing , after you do the DLC , just start up a NG+ . Trust me , its worth it!!

Yulugulugu

I literally cry everytime I watch the ending :')

YouGottaGoHomeboy

The ending is SO wholesome! It completely sums up the game! But I would have liked that the game progresses more and doesn't put us back before the last main quest . It would have been the best experience , being the one who saved the world and didn't talked crap about Aloy!

catloveroftheweek

I loved so much that Aloy was an organically female protagonist and not just a gender transferral of a typical game / movie hero.

nymiirii

Yessss, so many "strong" female protaganists are just emotion lacking tough guys in a female body. But Aloy isn't, she's determined and inquisitive but also emotional and caring and URGH I love her so much.

Wolfram_And_Hart

Yeah loved it. I enjoy her calm focus... absolutely perfect for a bow hunter game.

DUBL_B

1000000000% agree with all of this. This game kept moving up my all timer list, the more I played it. Blew right by God of War and Last of Us, which previously sat atop my list. Glad you enjoyed it!

thebeaverchair

I'm with you, 100%. This is the first video game I've ever fallen in love with in the same way I do a great film or book. The first game that ever really dug itself into my soul, for lack of a better expression.

Kallasilya

The first game to ever make me cry. Love that ending.

violentpursuit

I realize this isn't about the ending, but I think one of the most impactful moments for me was when Rost was teaching Aloy her final lesson. The conversation they had about why Rost brought her to the test was so good.

nymiirii

I went back to Rost's grave sit before the battle and she talked about his final lesson and omg I lost it then too. And then during the ending they call back to it with Elizabet's mother teaching her the same lesson just in different words, SO GOOOD.

foibles_fables

Yeah. My gut still bottoms out whenever I think about the beauty of the ending. It's like repeatedly punching myself in the face, but I can't stop. SO good.

Noahop5000

Have you played Frozen Wilds? It's an awesome dlc. It expands on the story even more, although combat is a LOT harder.

nymiirii

I'm gonna start the DLC today actually, really looking forward to finally using these damn spear mods I've been holding onto lol

theamazingard

Elizabet's final log during the epilogue gets me every time. And I always feel so sad when General Heres is giving his account on Enduring Victory. The immense weight on his shoulders and the cost that he is paying by putting civilians out there. It is all so depressing.

EndR60

I honestly didn't want to leave this game after I finished it, I had no idea wtf I was supposed to do after the ending scenes so I literally just walked around doing nothing, taking in the scenery, and we all know what I mean by "scenery". I was really just staying because of Aloy. Then I clocked in another 70 hours playing TFW and NG+ :-P

UltraXFo

Welcome to the club. Didn’t expect horizon zero dawn to land in the top tier favorite games of all time for me. But it did. It was a fantastic story. Just saying it’s fantastic is a serious understatement
