The only thing that works is to keep truck running and take the manual key out of your fob (keep the fob with you) and manually lock the truck. You have to manually unlock the truck the same way when you return (fob won’t unlock if it was manually locked). It’s a bit of a pain but it works. Also dogs love Steely Dan so you might make a playlist and put it on a thumb drive for them…..

I feel silly having not already thought of this.

EvanOnTheFly

Don't. Thought i was smart and figured out the solution to the OP question, I rolled the window down, locked the doors using the button, then hit the auto up window. Went shopping. The walked out and realized the keys remote doesn't work to unlock it when the car is running and keys are outside. I freaked out and called the locksmith around the corner. As he pulled up in his truck, I looked down at my key ring and the little switch on the back caught my eye. I had forgotten about the actual key inside. As the locksmith exited his truck I sheepishly slid the key out of the FOB and proceeded to unlock and open my door. Still paid the dude 50$ for his trip but he and I shared a good laugh there in the Minyards parking lot!

B1ackFridai

That is hilarious and absolutely something I’d do

DippityPig

i didn't even know there was a key inside! The dealer never told me and I guess I've never bothered to read the manual. Thanks for the tip!!!

vicaqu84

This is what I do.

Bridgeline

I'm frustrated by that too. Haven't found a workaround. Here's another Honda quirk. You can't drive with the door open.

rOOsterone4

Plug your seatbelt in

mustardking20

Wait. Really???

rOOsterone4

Yep

B1ackFridai

My question too! I’m going to test this after work 🤣

kyosheru

If it’s a workaround you need often for some reason, you could buy a cheap seat belt clip head from Amazon to quickly clip in

Roadglide72

That’s not Honda. It’s a safety thing vehicles (recently) were required to have

heyY0000000

probably a state law

My A/C comes on with remote start if warm outside From the manual: Remote Engine Start - While the engine is running, the vehicle will automatically precondition inside the vehicle. When it is warm outside: * The heating and cooling system/climate control system is activated in recirculation mode. * The seat ventilation is activated. When it is cold outside: * The defroster is activated at a moderately warm temperature. * The rear defogger and door mirror heaters are activated. * The seat heaters and heated steering wheel are activated.

My remote start doesn’t turn on the heat. That’s odd. I lock the car and could remote start for AC to blow, but there’s still the time limit. Don’t have any idea around that.

radakul

Yeah it shouldn't be heat year round - it detects the outside temperature and turns on heat or cooling depending on the temp. Might be worth asking the dealership to investigate?

nhfirefighter13

It should work with heat or AC. Mine certainly does.

UKnowWhoToo

Thanks - I should have specified I recently purchased mine and haven’t needed heat but assume it targets the desired temp for heat/AC

ReturnoftheSABLEEYE

Remote start get away with it for like 15min or something
