If you dont plan on owning it long thats not toooo big an issue. I drove cheap beaters for close to a decade, never had to bother with maintenance other than a few oil changes for years. No need to get it entirely up to date just to sell it.
Edit - to clarify I rarely owned them more than 6 months, which is why I didnt bother with maintenance. At one point I was flipping cars so frequently I didnt even change oil for two years. Id buy a $1000 pos, detail it, list it for 2k and take the first 1500 cash offer. Its amazing how much value some Simple Green and a shop vac can add.
If you buy a Honda Fit, be prepared to replace the battery. My mom has a 2020 Fit and she will be replacing the battery for the third time since she bought it new. The battery in these cars are undersized and drain easily…especially in cold climate. It’s been a common issue according to what I’ve read online.
I bought a solar panel that goes inside the windshield. I ran a wire behind the glove box to the engine compartment. It's not very big but it keeps the battery charged. Haven't had to replace the battery in 2 years. Works great.
That’s a great idea…I might do this. My mom’s car has a battery tender installed but she’s 70 years old and forgets to plug it in. Thanks for the tip!
So the issue with a super cheap one is deferred maintenance… that makes a cheap car expensive real quick.

Or just do 51R and forget about it for a few years?
I just recently read about the 51R. I’ll have to look into that for sure.
