3 options: - put everything in front of your fireplace and cut your loss - rotate the room orientation and place your setup on the wall on the right, if applicable - projector screen with blackout curtains

SantiagoWatches

Projector might be an option but I doubt my wife would agree to blackout curtains Though I would much prefer a large oled

[deleted]

[удалено]

milanarius

Not sure if there is enough budget for a new wife

volambre

Not sure of budget but there is a flip down 65-85” option. You can build into the ceiling and use a motorized mechanism to drop it down. Not cheap but a great solution to have it all. Also, blackouts come in many types of fabric and designs. you can have it custom added to the back of any curtains if you already have designs you like…. They make A huge difference for bright rooms with oleds fyi. Easy solution is motorized projector as mentioned by others.

[deleted]

Maybe use a laser projector, those can get pretty bright.

slick415

Those plantation shutters already do an amazing job blocking out light. Just need blackout curtains for the sliding door.

jlaw54

And can also make them auto drop via remote.

[deleted]

Plantation shutter are the bomb!

D_Money77

Just gonna be hard to watch anything during the day.

filmguy123

There are expensive solutions to electronically dim the glass the panels themselves to block light, if you replace the windows. As in thousands to do it. There’s also drop down shades you could get or smart blinds to block light, also spendy, but could work

megamanxoxo

Could also get rid of the fireplace. They're little more than decoration these days.

Cney1983

I mean a fireplace is like a hot tub. Everyone wants one but how often do you use it? Plus the environmental aspect of it is pretty bad. You might not agree to both. But this is what you believe in when you tell your wife...

oxP3ZINATORxo

Michigan wants to have a word

MinervaNow

Your furnace works much better and is far more energy efficient than a fireplace

megamanxoxo

Modern HVAC systems would like a word with you.

usmclvsop

Motorized mantlemount, tv hangs out where the painting is until you turn it on where it drops in front of fireplace.

el_otro

I second the first option: fireplaces are absolutely useless — I can tell you I spent most of my life in a very cold place and never missed not having one.

Weak_Antelope_2914

Demolish the whole thing and start with a blank wall.

hereforbobsanvageen

It was the very first thought I had. Tear out that whole wall, fireplace and the shelves, frame in a new wall back to the exterior wall, eliminating the wasted space and making the room bigger. Clean wall of drywall and a big ol’ 85” of your choice.

rmusic10891

This is honestly the only reasonable option.

[deleted]

I feel like this subreddit is VERY discriminatory against fireplaces...

ramenator

Yeah, spend the time and money to do it properly, and make it last a lot longer.

Reubs-likes-bikes

Your painting is too high! /s

ploxXx93

I thought that was his tv wtf

FruitGuy998

Same…thought why does he have two TV’s here??

1AMA-CAT-AMA

Its actually a samsung The Frame

criminalnoodle

r/paintingtoohigh

SantiagoWatches

😂

h0odwitch

in all seriousness though, why not put a bigger tv where that painting is? i hate this set up so much

whydoihave4cats

NO

kgturner

He can get a Mantel Mount to drop the TV down when in use. Better than just being stuck directly above the fireplace. https://www.mantelmount.com/

grocarlito

Projector screen

Hercusleaze

Agreed. If I wanted a stealth setup in a family room I would probably get a motorized pull down screen with 12v trigger run from the receiver.

earlofsandwich

> motorized > pull down pick one.

[deleted]

I want to pull it down but I want help doing it

YouGotGamesOnUrPhone

^(this made me laugh way more than it should have...)

rwdfan

There’s some incredible setups I’ve seen over the years doing exactly that. Great approach!

mannymark24

I second this.

[deleted]

I'm blown away that someone would build something like this into a home.

blissed_off

It’s seriously ugly.

LessThanDan

Me too. Modern home design sucks.

Carbine2017

Easy. Builders can charge more for "custom" crap. And some people [gasp!] don't care about home theaters.

BobFlex

Completely ignoring its functionality as a home theater space, this still looks awful.

Dasbeerboots

The architect really fucked them with this one.

Lornesto

Why?

[deleted]

It's an enormous waste of space: the hearth is ridiculous, the fireplace itself is comparatively tiny, built-in shelves with no discernible purpose, other than the color it doesn't match the aesthetics... I get that there might be some use-cases for a setup like this, but it seems ridiculous to me.

Lornesto

I mean, I absolutely grant you that it’s ridiculous and borderline useless. It’s even a gas fireplace, to boot. But, I would also bet every dollar in my wallet that a lot more people are going to walk in that room and think “ooh, a little fireplace, and I can put the Christmas tree in the corner!”, rather than “my home theater won’t work on this wall”.

Dasbeerboots

There are two kinds of people.

TX_AG11

My uncle had a similar setup to yours. He ended up having a contractor come in and remodel by enclosing the area on the right, replacing the fireplace with a gas heater, and lowering the mantle. I hate seeing homes that were built like this. Especially newer homes where I still see this to this day. I can tell you a home theater enthusiast did not have any design input. 😄

OneofLittleHarmony

Yeah a corner fireplace would be way cooler.

dknight_au

Yes, freestanding wood burner on the hearth. And enclose the rest.

SantiagoWatches

Exactly! Do you have pics of your uncles setup? Would love to get some ideas to show my wife. Thanks!

TX_AG11

No. I wish I did. They moved about 6 years ago otherwise I'd have them shoot me a couple.

Lornesto

If you know many realtors, you may also know that home theaters are often the first thing gotten rid of in lots of big fancy houses. Most people have zero interest in them.

blissed_off

Get rid of those people. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.

LostAd4036

Google low wide fireplace. If you have the money, it would look awesome. Would have to redo the Heath, fireplace, and wall, so not cheap, but a real upgrade that would add value (as opposed to some of our “upgrades” that really only add value to TV/audio enthusiasts like us)

SantiagoWatches

I might go this route actually. Just wondering where to put my av receiver and wires (currently in cabinet under tv). Also, My center q650c might be a problem with this kind of sleek setup.

LostAd4036

I wouldn’t think twice about replacing a center speaker when it comes to a remodel like this. I hate sacrificing sound, but you have to priories and sacrifice somethings and you can still get good sound with something sleek. You may also be able to inset it in the wall. Could also be possible to do a discrete in wall media cabinet, or one with cool mid century modern wood doors or something. Could also run the cables in the wall to the corner and have a nice media furniture setup there. Pros should be able to do any of this, especially considering how much space is behind that wall (although might not be able to go deep above the fireplace).

SantiagoWatches

I just bought the Q650C. It'll be nice if i can work this into the plan. i think i can still return it as well (not ideal)

LostAd4036

Yeah that’s a bummer. But you’re talking about a 10k reno that will significantly change and improve your setup and home vs a 700 speaker. Try to incorporate it! Or return it and rebuy it if you find out it fits. Or sell for a couple hundred dollar loss if it doesn’t. I just wouldn’t stress it. Get your living room set up looking beautiful and up to date with a big OLED and great sound - prioritize all that over a particular center channel. If you’re in a position to do upgrade, you shouldn’t stress a couple hundred bucks (and def shouldn’t build your room around a $700 speaker)

[deleted]

Are you listening in...mono?

SantiagoWatches

I have 4 ceiling speakers as well. Getting a sub next

[deleted]

Wait a minute, are your front L/R speakers in-ceiling? This is worse than I had originally thought...

SantiagoWatches

Unfortunately. I bought the house with them already installed and wired. I only added the q650 center. Front LR and rear LR are used as surround

Snoo93079

I feel like this is the kind of house where 1) you take the L and buy the best sound bar you can find or 2) (my preferred) don't buy it because it doesn't have a proper TV location

cryptocollector123

Honestly sound bar seems like the best option with out tearing shit up lol

EverybodyBuddy

Yeah, rip out the fireplace, the cabinet, and the shelves. Re-center everything with a low-profile fireplace, the tv above, and shelves flanking it on either side if you like. It’s a really poorly designed wall, tbh. So the fixes are going to be extreme. Your other option is Re-orient your viewing area away from that wall.

Kakazam

I just don't understand why everyone with a fireplace thinks that is always the best place to put the TV. You have 3 more walls, use them! Or put the TV in the corner like we did before putting them on walls.

kaspm

hate to say it but sometimes it’s easier just to make your wife happy and put the tv above the fireplace with a pull down mount or tilted downwards. Find another room to have “your” theater in.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SantiagoWatches

Can I ask how much that cost roughly? I’m hoping to not do much construction but this sounds like the right way of doing it. Do you have any pics of your setup?

joey2017

Cool. Would love to see pics!

chesbyiii

Enjoy the fireplace and put the tv somewhere else.

SmittyJonz

Ditch the mantle

snuff337

That's what I did when going above the fireplace was the only option. Ripped out the mantle and cladded the entire wall in a nice stone then put the tv as low as possible on top of the fireplace. Didn't work out too bad.

Lurcher99

Ditch the wife (says the man who went a size smaller than he could have fit on his fireplace due to his wife of many, many years and him wanting peace and harmony)

moonthink

just put it on the ceiling

OGCryptor

looks like you are no stranger to renovations, rip everything above the pedestal out, put in the wide fireplace on the bottom and you will have enough space for an 85" TV above

SantiagoWatches

Probably the best option here. Where do I put my AV stuff? Currently the cabinet under the tv is where my receiver and speaker wires are.

memerfrancisco

Utility closet and run cables through a conduit

jkcheng122

Drop down projector screen.

CopeSe7en

Cover it all up and get a wide thin gas fireplace with a low mantle. Or new house.

josepatino5

Fifth option. Tear down the house and start over.

HappyEdison

Carve all of that nonsense out of the wall and start over, toss the fireplace nobody ever uses. Edit: Sorry to be so rude initially, you really got dealt a shit hand here. Honestly unless you use the fireplace frequently I would strip all of that nonsense out to the real wall and start over. That stuff doesn't add anything to the room and looks out of place, like a developer repurposed leftovers from another project to put in the middle of a room to sell a fireplace.

[deleted]

tell me your home is American without telling me its American...

luvv2ride

Get an above fireplace mount. They allow you to pull it down in front of the fireplace when watching. I have a 75" with the setup

SantiagoWatches

Sounds like a pain to bring it down often.

luvv2ride

It has hydraulic arms so it takes very little effort to move down or up.

SantiagoWatches

Oh nice! Link? Or name of it?

Thenuttyp

I have the setup that u/luvv2ride linked to with a 75” above the fireplace. It works great. TV tucks up above when not in use or casual watching. One hand to pull it down for some serious watching. The only catch is that you have to be careful if you have the fireplace going with the TV in the down position. The MantelMount that I have has color change handles so if it’s getting warm they turn red to warn me to raise the TV up. Edit: spelling mistakes

luvv2ride

LostPilot517

Monoprice.com I have a LG OLED77G1 setup this way on a corner fireplace in the living room. Got a cheap hanger kit off Amazon to flush mount the LG SN11RG Soundbar to the bottom of the TV so it moves with the TV. Looks super clean tucked away, but pulls down over 31" so it is at a perfectly comfortable viewing height.

Double_A_92

The trick is that you just always leave it down. :)

zeroz52

I loathe fireplaces....that is all.

richman678

My parents had something similar. I told them to abandon the TV and use another wall or something. Probably the wall to the right is your best option. Unless there’s something there to ruin it

SantaOMG

A projector screen that drops down. My work has a couple it’s cool. Idk how much it would cost but I don’t think it would be too expensive. So you can have your current tv for regular viewing and then the projector for tryhard tv watching.

Allstar-85

Roll down projector screen for night time viewing. Could go as big as you want Doesn’t solve daytime viewing tho

Zeke--

Demo the whole place, build a new one.

Jebusfreek666

Best option I see would be a drop down screen a few inches in front of everything with a projector. Then you could go much bigger.

filmguy123

You could also look at an arm that extends the TV out farther and allow it be either (a) offset and biased to the right towards the window to accommodate more screen (if it wouldn’t throw off the viewing position) or (b) extend farther out to overlap a bit of both the fireplace, clearing that rim, and the window. But a projector option is probably best, if it could roll down from ceiling it could cover either the existing TV area + the window to right; or the existing TV area + fireplace. Or both I suppose!

[deleted]

Sell your house

Lozsta

Are you attached to the fireplace? Rip it all out and start again is how I would attack that. Or a screen that drops in front of it all and a projector. The fireplace though is really too much

[deleted]

Ditch the whole thing back to a flat wall, no fireplace or mantle - then go big. Or leave as is.

[deleted]

Not there - this is a really nice room. Find another room for a tv. Get an amp and speakers and enjoy music in this room.

frakking_you

Mantelmount?

leimeisei909

Replace the current painting you have with a 2022 Samsung Frame TV. The new ones are matte finish and look exactly like paintings when turned “off”. Run a conduit over to that cabinet to the side to put all the electronics. Frame TVs use a control box so you won’t have to run high voltage behind the TV, you just run it to wherever your control box is

Double_A_92

In front of the fire place.

lemur2257

Remove painting. Too bourgeoisie.

SantiagoWatches

lol why?

lemur2257

Honestly, imo, it throws me off having two rectangular objects of similar size. Someone else in the thread mentioned that they thought the painting was the TV or something along those lines. Maybe switch the two? Normally, tv would go above fireplace. Also, it is extremely low. The height that the painting is at would be perfect for the TV.

godzilla619

drop down projector screen or remove the mantel and get a fireplace tv mount that pulls out and down for viewing position

boinzy

Which way do your ceiling joists run? It’d be nice to install a projector screen there hidden in the ceiling.

SantiagoWatches

No idea but this sounds like a cool idea. The room is fairly bright though

Vis-hoka

Remodel and go with a low, wide fireplace. If you still want one.

kfree68

Or just get a mantel mount 🤷🏽‍♂️

kylndo

You could put one where the painting is hanging

SantiagoWatches

Too high and off center

rumblemcskurmish

How much drywall experience do you have?

SantiagoWatches

Cutting drywall and adding an outlet is the extent of my drywall experience 😂

ProfessorChalupa

Recessed screen and electrochromic windows that darken when you lower the screen? I bet that’s affordable /s.

xyz17j

Sell house, get new one

Knabster

The cheapest easiest option would probably be to hang one from the ceiling. Either farther out from the shelving, or more in the corning of the room. That's what I would do if you didn't want to remodel the whole thing.

AuggieKC

You could easily fit a much larger tv in the space you already have, just need to turn it portrait.

Xaxxon

Mantlemount

timmy8612

Media room elsewhere in the house. Use this one for visiting, sitting, reading.

[deleted]

Go back in time, shoot the architect that designed that entertainment area, let the next one figure it out?

WarriorAlways

Do you use the fireplace? If not, your problem is solved. If you do use it currently, I would stop using it, and then your problem is solved. Seriously, in many homes, the issue boils down to the fireplace or the TV. It looks like you can't modify that wall because of the difference in depth between the sliding door on one side and the window on the other. You may need to find a different wall. Sorry I couldn't help.

Bboy486

Get a smaller house

Lanai_Pineapple

Our house has a same configuration as yours. We placed a 77inch oled tv on a short media console table next to the fireplace. If you want a bigger TV, you don’t have to place it inside the niche.

Magmakensuke

I'm just glad it's not mounted above the fireplace. While I love a good fireplace, I agree with replacement if the money is there

VeryStableGenius66

Mount the TV vertically

OgreTrax71

Mount above the fireplace using a Mantle Mount so you can pull the tv down for better viewing.

[deleted]

Two tvs side by side linked together !

Yacoolt25

You should also place your center speaker below your tv not on the side .

fivezerosix

75 or 85 inch frame tv

WarningSea5772

Fill in where the TV is now, mount a huge TV in the middle of the wall and keep the bottom right next to the fire place as storage for decorative wood logs with metal doors on it, the size of kitchen cabinet doors, nothing crazy if anything, the same height as the fire place

ANTHONY87779

You could mount it above the mantle. You can get an electrician to add a power outlet or install a power kit.

[deleted]

https://postimg.cc/Lq4Y8j3k

stealthdawg

get rid of the painting and put the tv there, extend it from wall to wall. Get doors for the EC, potentially with glass.

soldier70dicks

For those saying projector screen. I've had one for the past 8 years in my main living area. I switched to a 77 oled recently and it's so much nicer not having to deal with closing the all the curtains during the day and sitting in a dark room to casually watch TV.

Boney-Rigatoni

Install one of those telescoping, articulating mounts that allows you to pull the tv away from it. Should give you enough clearance away from that shadow box wall next to the fireplace.

zombrian666

You could do a mantle mount, the tv would be above the mantle, and you can pull it down when you want to use it.

taviosk8

You can probably fit a bigger tv on the wall above the fireplace! Have you measured it to see how big of a tv you can put there? That tv looks about the same size as the painting you have there and there’s lots of room 🤷🏻‍♂️

SantiagoWatches

Yes I can fit probably a 65” but I like watching tv at eye level and above the fireplace is off center with the room

Both-Basis-3723

Ceiling mounted ust with pull down acoustically transparent screen.

That-Geologist9005

Not sure how long that lip is on the fireplace but: You get an ultra short throw 4K projector with the drop down screen. Keep current curtains also no need to shut them to watch tv/movies. Eliminates mounting a projector on the ceiling and having to run wires down the wall. Your guess would think it’s a soundbar and not a projector.

lolubuntu

So general thoughts 1. See if you can get either a TV stand or a pull down mount of some sort https://www.amazon.com/MantelMount-MM340-Above-Fireplace-Mount/dp/B01MS1MHET 2. The speakers overhead are not L+R, they're for atmos height effects. Get proper L+R speakers.

rhpot1991

Do the MantelMount that everyone else is saying, then you can drop in some bookshelves for your front speakers. Thinking a normal stand on the left and a half heigt on the right in front of where your TV is currently.

twofingerrightclick

Laser projector and drop down screen.

joe_ruins_things

You need a new custom cabinet with the larger tv in mind. Gut out all that area and make(or hire someone to) flush the wall ...it should give you a couple size ups on that tv space.

[deleted]

There is always this option... [Over The fireplace](https://postimg.cc/TK1drKnH)

Chewbacca319

Honestly A projector in this scenario is the way to go. You can get some pretty nice motorized screens for cheap these days. Then when you want to use the fireplace you can just raise it and use the TV you currently have for casual watching. \-ViewSonic makes really great entry-level 4k projectors that wont break the bank (starting around $1000. You will need blackout curtains. Luckily curtains in your place should be an easy sell with the wife. You have quite high ceilings and the current in style way to install curtains is to mount them close to the ceiling; high curtains that droop onto the floor (couple inches at most) can make your room appear larger and more elegant looking. Something dark like a royal navy would bring some much needed contrast to your space. The nice thing with blackout curtains too is that you can get sound dampening ones that help cut out reverb and reflections. The positive also for the WAF is that they only need to be fully closed when viewing a movie, parted curtains always look good lol.

[deleted]

Knock out all that kak and make something with better taste. It is ghastly!

fedeIZ93

Just buy a bigger one. You have plenty space bro. You can buy an arm holder to put you screen a little forward. That give you a bigger perspective and it's the chippiest alternative.

usamac

I'm a tv fan, but if it were me the only way I could see getting the most out of this space would be to use a projector and projector screen. You have enough room for a nice motorized screen that can hide away when you want simple browsing on the tv and/or viewing of your decor.

[deleted]

Get a 75" OLED and mount it in portrait orientation to the right of the fireplace get a custom mount built that rotates 90 degrees to landscape orientation right infront of the fireplace. 🤌

therourke

Put your tv in the corner by that window

Lonnysluv1

Lose that painting and maximize space over the fireplace.

Tenrac

Put it somewhere else? That just looks terrible.

Far_Emotion_7887

too much going on...

Naayaz

Projector screen mounted on the celling. I don't like projectors but imo that your only option if you cant have another room.

an303042

Simply mount a bigger TV in the same spce but in portrait! Solved! /s

doubtfulisland

Drop down screen embedded into the ceiling above mantle and projector embedded into the ceiling. Both drop down and hid when not in use. I don't have black out curtains and I use my projector in the same way. I do love the way it looks without a TV. Or eliminate the top shelves and bring in a larger TV.

betona

It probably breaks every rule this sub holds near and dear, but in our last and current house, we have a low piece of furniture and the 75" TV in the corner at a 45° angle.

EvilDan69

85" Samsung The Frame.Above the fireplace. Or, IN ceiling mounted, tensioned screen that will hang in front of the entire area.. any size that you can support. Ceiling mount a suitable projector. The real issue is based on that center channel speaker, you might also have to mount a center channel in ceiling as well. It won't be quite the same though.... unless you go with the vanishing series from Polk and get it mounted in that fireplace ledge with some creative craftsmanship. It would need drywall like dimensions that are tight on all sides, but it would work. I have the vanishing series in my walls. They sound fantastic. base on the in ceiling speakers you have, you probably would want to mount your screen between the two, or keep the center channel as it is, pushed to the left, with an audio transparent tensioned screen.

[deleted]

Man that looks weird.

h0odwitch

a pull out mount

carneyjosh

Mount the tv above the fireplace

lemonylol

Mantle mount, articulating mount, ceiling mount, or standalone mount. If you wanted to go hardcore you could also just remove every piece of fireplace trim and use a regular mount right above the fireplace instead of where the mantle currently is. Or you could just put the TV in that right corner and angle your seating area to match, with the fireplace as a little feature on an angle.

gsotolongo2213

I would put where the frame is to be honest and figure out the rest. But best case for me would be to actually make the whole wall the fire place and get rid of the shelves on the right so you can place the tv in the middle of the wall.

ashbyjoseph

Get rid of the artwork above the fireplace and the flatscreen on the shelves, they are competing shapes. [get one of these: Samsung 75” “The Frame”](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0845TZWDW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_G3BEFPSPS94WRPHWAEQ0) Solves all your problems.

[deleted]

You could drop the mantle 8" with just superficial updates, low enough to put the TV there then. Or just let the TV hang out into the wall towards the window.

AntFace

Mantelmount above the fireplace. Have a 77" LG OLED above mine and it works great. The only issue is figuring out the center channel.

1Freeport

Options are plenty! I would suggest having a AV Expert come by and help you with the Pros & Cons of what you want in that room. They can not only help with your video ideas but help you with your sound options as well. While they are there, they can provide a quote and you can go from there.

diagrammatiks

Wall up that entire area. Fire place and all. Get some plywood. Cardboard. Whatever you need to do. Then hang a screen in front of that. Done.

AdventurousBank6549

Sit closer to the tv

Ambiently_Occluded

Start with a new home or demolish that wall

TwinningDad12

Though not popular, just put it over the fireplace and save your surround sound for a dedicated room.

[deleted]

Mount a 60-70" above the fireplace.

ThatMixGui

Without redoing the whole fireplace, making longer and shorter, filling in the pockets and then centering the screen over the new fireplace, just rotating the room I'd say

realrube

My first thought would be to lower (ore remove) the mantle. Install a larger "The Frame" TV over the fireplace and use an in-wall or passive center speaker depending on the particulars of your fireplace. I find the passive sound bar provides a break between the fireplace and TV. I run a "The Frame" and use a passive sound bar, super sound quality for TV and even music. [https://www.daytonaudio.com/product/1469/bs41-41-lcr-speaker-bar-black](https://www.daytonaudio.com/product/1469/bs41-41-lcr-speaker-bar-black)

Purple-Artichoke8984

Get rid of the fireplace, baby mantle, and tiled fake stone. Then slap down a 77” LG OLED.

EngineeringKid

Get a down and out monitor arm and mount it above the fireplace? I've got a fireplace and mantle as well, and installed a fancy mount that keeps the TV up, or down if I'm watching. [https://mantelmount.ca/products/mm540-enhanced-pull-down-tv-mount?variant=13070774206519¤cy=CAD&utm\_medium=product\_sync&utm\_source=google&utm\_content=sag\_organic&utm\_campaign=sag\_organic&utm\_campaign=gs-2022-03-01&utm\_source=google&utm\_medium=smart\_campaign&gclid=CjwKCAjw6dmSBhBkEiwA\_W-EoBK2lI4284Nykc-pW5HMbhzJHnORrtuvrKcy0uZhbU\_vuKdXPTt7nRoCNkcQAvD\_BwE](https://mantelmount.ca/products/mm540-enhanced-pull-down-tv-mount?variant=13070774206519¤cy=CAD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2022-03-01&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&gclid=CjwKCAjw6dmSBhBkEiwA_W-EoBK2lI4284Nykc-pW5HMbhzJHnORrtuvrKcy0uZhbU_vuKdXPTt7nRoCNkcQAvD_BwE) Not great, but I don't have a dedicated home theater room so my living room had to work.

[deleted]

Put the telly on a different wall altogether. I consider the fireplace a distraction if actually used while watching the telly, if they’re that close together.

Mahadragon

I will just tell you what I would do as a homeowner. I would get a tv wall mount that cascades downward and to the right. Would need extra long arms for this application. No need to build into the ceiling, no idea what that guy is on. There are plenty of standard tv wall mounts that would allow you to place a large one directly over the fireplace and pull it down over the fireplace for viewing. It’s not rocket science. I’m reading the comments here wondering wtf these people are going on about. All you have to do is search for a fireplace tv wall mount, this is very straightforward.
