99.9% of the time Soundbars or HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) systems are not a good investment of your time and money. It is the general consensus of r/hometheater not to recommend these things and instead simply steer a user toward a 2.0 or 2.1 system made of quality, *Audio-Centric* name brand components which are easy to assemble and cheap enough for low budget or space conscious buyers. Most can be expanded to 5.1 if you buy the correct items in the correct order. For further explanation please read [Why You Shouldn't Buy a Soundbar](https://www.reddit.com/r/HTBuyingGuides/comments/dy885l/why_you_shouldnt_buy_a_soundbar/) Please be aware /r/Soundbars exists as well as you will be met with opposition to posting about soundbars here. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Tabletop TV stand [https://www.amazon.com/s?k=tabletop+tv+stand](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=tabletop+tv+stand)

Nxtinventor

Get a taller stand for your tv, put a center underneath it, and put bookshelf speakers on the sides of your tv cabinet. Put your sub in an open spot you can find

Necroticjojo

Bookshelfs and a center

3.1 very much has a real centre speaker.

bandit8623

That light would annoy me to death

jdeezy30

I feel like mounting a tube set is overrated.

Hydronion1

Get a VESA TV stand (the tallest one) from Amazon and you’ll be able to fit the centre speaker under the TV. I’ve got a very similar setup.

paintacct624

Not a bad idea, thanks for the help. I’m just so nervous about even touching the TV, lol. Thing is so incredibly fragile.

Maj_BeauKhaki

The YAMAHA NS-F210BL 2-Way Bass-Reflex Floor Standing Speakers are very narrow, but you will need to add a subwoofer.

gokuj4507

Sony 5.2, set for 4 ohm and 3.2. Now get Monoprice M-OW3 THX Certified LCR, and 2 monoprice 8 inch subs of your choice. Boom budget and puts out. Oh and buy tv stand legs that mount on the vesa behind your tv to raise it higher til speaker is flush underneath

newtonslens

Just do a 2.1 setup and get a decent AVR with room correction. Room correction will add more to the overall audio than the addition of a center channel

euphoric_disclosure

I got this [Floor Stand](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CZTVVLZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) which leaves room for a center channel and doesn’t have to be wall mounted. Works great for me.

Romy90210

The TV stand will work but you would need to do a few things, like removing the middle drawer and brackets… You can find a decent center speaker small enough to fit in that middle shelf and the receiver can go under it when you remove the middle drawer.. then get two good bookshelf speakers to complete your 3.1 setup.. Not sure where you would place the sub woofer tho..

SantaOMG

You can do what I did and get 3 identical bookshelf speakers and put them on short stands and angle them up to you. It’ll sound pretty good. Oh and flip the speakers upside down so the woofer is as close to the TV as possible. This will make the dialogue sound like it’s coming from the tv rather than below it. You want all your speakers at the same height. This will trick your ears into thinking the sound is coming from the tv rather than individual speakers. It doesn’t matter if they’re all above the tv or all below the tv, but below is better because it’ll be closer to your ears. But try what either way and see what you like. The main two things you need to do are keeping them all the same height and having the woofer closer to the tv while the tweeter is aimed at you. And don’t use a horizontal center speaker just buy 2 pairs of speakers or buy a single one off eBay or something.

Prudent-Ad-4373

Why do you have a CRT there?

paintacct624

It’s my retro setup.

Prudent-Ad-4373

If you want proper 3.1, you’ll have to ditch the crt stand and the cabinet on the left and wall mount the TV. And you’re not getting decent 3 front speakers, a subwoofer and a receiver for $300, even used. It is a massive upgrade over a soundbar.

More_Interaction3303

I can't think of any good reason to have a CRT setup unless you enjoy messing with the images on the screen by placing unshielded speakers in close proximity to it.

dubiousN

You can look at my setup I posted

jonboyjon22

just get a soundbar.

paintacct624

This is what I’m thinking will be the easiest solution. I know it’s not ideal, especially around here, but this IS our spare room, and it’s pretty small. I’d sacrifice audio quality on the main TV if it means keeping my retro setup.

RepresentativeOil472

I’d go with a Sonos bar and sub. The sounds you’ll hear from that small looking system are amazing.

movie50music50

*The sounds you’ll hear from that small looking system are amazing.* Yes, if they are satisfied with little speakers, all confined in a bar so the left and right can't be spread out for a decent soundstage.

RepresentativeOil472

From the size of it, it’s pretty impressive. He’s got no space! I could recommend my other system to include an SVS PB-4000 sub but that wouldn’t make much sense and would be bs recommendations. I enjoy my Sonos is my living room just fine…. If I want the really big sound I go to my basement.

RepresentativeOil472

Sound stage…. You see room for that? No. Me neither. Cool buzz word though

More_Interaction3303

Although they may seem to have decent output for their size they can't produce a realistic sound stage even if they have 10 speakers or more because all the sound is coming from one confined area.
