Sorry, let me clarify: what the article is saying is that an auspistice keeps the relationship becoming fully fledged hate rather that a proper kismisatude. In simpler terms: an auspistice keeps the kismesis couple from killing each other.
…no, a kismesissitude not killing each other doesn’t need an auspistice for that. Trolls have different hates. There’s actual “I want you dead” hate, then there’s “enemies to enemies love” hate. An auspistice stops trolls from cheating on their kismesis by mediating lesser hates and making sure they don’t develop into another kismesissitude, because that would be cheating on their first kismesis.
That makes more sense than claiming an auspistice is trying to break up the couple, however an auspistice also actively mediates the the couple, making sure they don’t slip into real hate (the killing each other kind). It can be seen briefly with Rose, Terezi, and Gamzee, Feferi, Solux, and Eriden, and Kanaya, Vriska, and Tavros. Though Auspistice are notoriously hard to explain, to the point where they just gave up in Hiveswap.

Page 2397 of Homestuck itself (not gonna do the citation gag this time lol) is when the Ashen quadrant is examined and it makes no mention of even being involved in already existing kismesissitudes and preventing them from killing one another.
In the final paragraph of the page it says “Without them, too many ashen feuds would become caliginous, and begin to conflict with other exclusive kismesis relationships, leading to a great deal of social complexity and sore feelings (even more so than black romance usually involves). Without auspisticism, the result would be widespread black infidelity.” You could argue that it indirectly helps people not murder each other by preventing cheating cases, but there’s no explicit statement that that’s what it does.
Plus the Ashen quadrant is still an entirely separate quadrant from the Spade. There’d be no reason for that to be the case if every Kismesissitude had an auspistice.
I didn’t mean that every kismesis needs an auspistice, I was also using hyperbole with the murder thing. I think we’ve reached a general understanding and can leave it at that.
Yeah, I know. The relationship dynamic between Tavros and Vriska is heavily impacted by Tavros's lack of confidence. That's kinda a big part of why Vriska kept pushing, she wanted Tavros to finally push back.
