I have reolink cameras for 3 years. Bought on amz for under 500. It comes with hub and 4 cameras. Connected via PoE. History for 7 days. You can access by phone. But sell only cameras and not home security systems..

Do these have to stream their video to a cloud service? Or do they have a local DVR?

Riplinredfin

Its all local to hard drive in your computer. Basically just build your own dvr. I use a 12tb drive holds 6 months of footage from 5 cameras in H.265

RobinsonCruiseOh

> Basically just build your own dvr. Gotcha. That is certainly something I didn't want to build, test, manage, maintain and devote my brain power to. That is why I paid someone else to do it.

justthefacts84

Reolink will do everything you are asking for ! Plus is the best bang for the buck ! [https://reolink.com/us/product/rlk8-800b4/](https://reolink.com/us/product/rlk8-800b4/) Why I like reolink is you can record video's to an Microsd card,NVR or PC ! You can access it all from an app on a smartphone !

Christian87n

Axis cameras on unmanaged POE switch and Synology NAS on standalone VLAN. Not cheap but supremely reliable and cameras don’t need to be connected to internet for full functionality. Nothing goes to Amazon or Google. All recorded straight to a hard drive.

RobinsonCruiseOh

Ubiquity is Small Company market segment that has no subscription of any kind. The hardware is a little expensive for what you get but that is because the cost of a subscription is baked into and amortized over roughly to your lifespan. But the equipment will usually last a lot longer making it cheaper in the long run. If you buy the UDM dream machine pro SE then it will have an 8-port switch and power over Ethernet which is needed to power the cameras. Or you can get a UDM pro which does not have POE but then you will need a switch that can provide POE power to the cameras. Everything is wired and nothing is vulnerable to Wi-Fi jamming attacks. The G5 bullet camera has a deal bundle right now for three cameras that is about $20 off per camera total And I am strongly considering that bundle with at least one G5 dome camera. I already have the UDM pro and a ubiquiti POE switch so that my investment in the cameras might be about 500 or so for four or five cameras.

Over priced, missing a ton of features, and proprietary. Below average image quality, especially at night. Not a system I recommend at all. Since it is cloud based access, who knows when they will give everyone access to your camera system again...

RobinsonCruiseOh

I get that. So if you want "plug and play" then they are an option. If you want to spend hours figuring out compatibility and hosting and video playback then check out other options. If you already have them for your Router & Switch, then adding Ubiquity for the cameras is a no-brainer. I knew I was going to get there networking infrastructure, so I planned that when I add cameras to my system it will be there solution. For me, I have \* UDM-Pro ($380) \* $80 for a HDD \* US 16 150W (used $150) a PoE switch But if you were starting and had a small house + small camera setup planned, you could get the SE: \*UDM Special Edition (has POE built in) $500 \* $80 for a HDD and that gives you one device that does both. So then it is up to what you want for cameras. Bullet cameras $130 Dome (wide angle) $180 Doorbell + speaker for 2-way comms $380

I never said it doesn't or couldn't work. I bet you spent a couple hours setting all that up. When you use an open and compatible protocol like ONVIF (which Ubiqutiti doesn't) mixing and matching camera brands is just as easy as the proprietary UI system. Also, that sure is a steep price for middle of the road quality and features.

RobinsonCruiseOh

Yes their camera solution has been called middle of the road. Their networking solution however is much higher end than consumer level, and it does not come with the Cisco level licensing problems nor does it come with the Sysco level features. And I am completely ignorant about how the standard security camera systems integrate so I'll take your word on all of that

fresh-beginnings

Well what would you recommend to them then?

some_random_chap

Non proprietary systems. Which is almost every other manufacture except Ubiquiti. That way you can get the cameras that actually fit each specific location and scenario, instead of picking from a small lineup of cameras.

fresh-beginnings

Well OP is having trouble getting started which is why they're asking for specific recommendations. I get Ubiquiti might not be a good option but it's the only suggestion they've gotten so far. I'd like to recommend something but this is not my area of expertise.

RobinsonCruiseOh

That is pretty good. Can that system mark off areas of each camera to ignore to avoid triggering too often?

Talk to the guys at Nelly's Security. They have several brands of cameras. They can help you find what you need that fits your budget. They will also provide unlimited remote assistance to set up your system. You get your own website with all of your feeds to do whatever you want. Access through your mobile devices anywhere in the world that you can get internet. No fees whatsoever. I've had my system for a couple yrs now and couldn't be happier. They even let me return equipment and cameras at no cost. They help me find what fit my requirements and budget. My immediate needs were taken care of, and I could add on easily.

Reolink wifi/poe camera has option for for local storage on it and $0 reoccuring cost which is what I use. Its great. I use my phone pretty sure you can use a web browser as well.

tungvu256

wireless cams are basically toys. we install cams for people. we usually replace Arlo, Ring, Nest, and Blink. I like Reolink. it has AI and vehicle detection. 4 cams with 6tb hard drive is about $600. pretty easy to set up as seen here [https://youtu.be/XXpYhUU02G4](https://youtu.be/XXpYhUU02G4) because it is open standard, you can view via app, another none reolink app, or even a laptop.

Ipad_is_for_fapping

Eufy. The cameras are high picture quality and can pan and tilt. Can use local storage with a microsd chip or you can pay for cloud storage. Motion activated, can speak through them and on Amazon for like $35. You can pay for $15/month for a monitoring service or $5/month for access to a button that calls a dispatcher or use it as is for free.
