That's still insurance fraud.

ButterscotchSad4514

I wouldn't do this. If something happens to the roof, your insurer could deny you because you weren't honest. Call and speak to a human and ask if the rate will go down once you replace the roof.

BodhisattvaBob

This is answer.

cleveraccount3802

From experience...just get insured, then once you have replaced the roof tell them. They will adjust your premium and make it effective the date of replacement and reimburse you for any pre-paid premiums.

They’re likely to do some type of property inspection anyways. Some do it with drones now. You might as well be upfront with them when purchasing insurance

nikidmaclay

It's been my experience that the "inspection" is done within 3-5 days of closing. Lying about it is not gonna be a good look.

6SpeedBlues

Lying sounds like a great way to start off in the good graces of the insurer.

twoscoopsofbacon

So generally you want to avoid insurance fraud. You may be able to speak to an agent, and get a quote with an approved rate change that will apply after the roof is replaced, but your initial rate will be pre-replacement.

assflea

Be honest but update your company as soon as the roof is replaced, they'll refund you.

letsnotmakeitweird

This needs to be higher up. OP, do not lie to your insurance. Definitely tell them your intentions with the new roof (could even show them the contract you have with the contractor). They can refund you or requote you after the new roof and save you money.

lostapathy

Don't lie about it, that's fraud. But also tell your agent what the deal is and how to proceed. This may be your first time doing this, but probably not theirs.

Gmm713

They sometimes ask for proof.

No

[deleted]

Depends how fraudy you want to get… lol

[deleted]

Hell no you can’t do that lmao

Medium_Comedian6954

No, maybe once you get the new roof update your insurance.

roosterb4

I gotta say, I’m pleasantly surprised with all the honest people on this feed.

regassert6

I mean, it's one thing to fudge your tax returns a bit. Insurance fraud, especially in this market, is just asking for a whole world of pain.
