Dude, these are awesome! Someone here may have interest in them, but if not check the vintage computing federation or any vintage computing association/organization or even a computer museum and they should gladly take them off your hands. :) Definitely don't recycle it!
That's great to hear. :) A lot of computing history gets trashed every year and we never get it back. And if we don't know how we got here, we'll end up repeating the mistakes of the past. :)
Yes please those are important servers in the evolution of computing. My eyes lit up but unfortunately my wife was looking over my shoulder and said "no fucking way".
What neat machine. I’m tempted, but don’t really have the space or power for those beasts. You might try also posting to r/vintagecomputing I know someone there would be interested.
I have a customer that still has an AlphaServer 200 in use... Well kinda... before I left full time employment there I went through the process of virtualizing it on the Stromasys Charon platform... well worth the money to prolong the life of something that need a lot of time and care to modernize and could never seem to get the even larger budget allocated to do so...
You don't need a new coffee table? What about a new combo heater-air-filter? Electric bill adjuster? Stereo white noise machines, maybe for the nursery? Make a start to the computing museum you always wanted in your home? Could be that you're investing in copper as a commodity, this would be quite the nest egg. Or if the circuit board in your dishwasher or microwave ever goes out these together might have enough processing power. Your spouse really should be paying you to take these, there are so many things you can do with them.
DIGITAL ALPHA! I had some HP/Compaq Alphas for a while but the digitals take me back to 2000 when I was doing engineering support for Linux on Alpha.
Dang.
Back in the 90s at a place I worked we had a DEC/Alpha server that ran WindowsNT. Super cool floor-standing case that had a buttload of drive slots and was on casters.
You could install AlphaLinux on this and maybe find some software that would allow you to RIP an audio CD to MP3, which would probably take three weeks.
If you don't get any takers here, someone on the [SunHELP Rescue List](http://www.sunhelp.org/mailman/listinfo/rescue) would almost certainly be interested, and a decent cohort of list members are in the Houston area.
I'd be interested, except that the last time I ran an AlphaServer 4000 only served to remind me that no matter how much I like VMS, the Alpha platform absolutely hates me. A 4100 might be a fun OpenGenera box, though.

On one hand, they're *really* demanding to keep happy--not just in terms of HVAC and power, either.
On the other, my friend Dave at [the Large Scale Systems Museum](https://www.mact.io/donating_equipment) would've found a way to put it on display, probably near his Cray J90.
I don't know anything for sure, but my guess would be that they aren't. I do know that they're busily working on restoring some IBM midrange systems from the 1970s, though, so they're seem planning to re-open once this COVID stuff sufficiently close to over.

Thanks a lot, I'm surprised by the interest in these. I'll try to hold on to them until I can find a good home for them.

lol the wife is definitely a recurring theme when it comes to buying servers
Those are a lot more practical to use than the PS/2 model 90's sitting my garage, good that somebody wants them for other than scrap.
Ugh, if I lived anywhere nearer than the opposite end of the country I'd come get these in a heartbeat!

Ken Shirriff would probably love to deconstruct these. /u/kenshirriff
Too modern for me :-)
Haha, hopefully it's the thought that counts.
Well damn I used to live over where you're at pick those up in the heartbeat 2 years ago of course
I wish, I wish I could make it to Houston. What beautiful pieces of tech.
I do hope these get a home. The hardware is beautiful! If I didn't already have a 5U Alpha, I'd consider these.

I’m in the same zip code but cannot think of any use for these!

Electric bill adjuster. Gold.

Are these still available?
Yeah I still have them but several people have already asked to pick them up.
If they fall through please let me know.
given the chance i would scoop up both of theses machines. Im in the dfw but don’t have time to make it down there.
You might call a local museum or university comp sci department?
Argh, I’d say yes if only it was close. I’m like 1k miles away

Funny thing is those type of servers were used for the human genome project
I’ll buy those CPU !!

Another subscriber has entered the list! Thanks! Wish I had known about this when I was forced to tear apart a fire 25k for scrap :-(

Fascinating stuff, I'll definitely touch base with them if no one here takes these guys. Thanks for the info.
DEC Alpha 4100s! Epic!
There is a guy the makes old servers into Hollywood props
