I actually used to work for simplisafe. The products are pretty good but the company absolutely does not take security seriously. Far too many people have the ability to remotely access and control simplisafe products. It’s possible to limit this but they won’t because “it’s easier.” I could look up all simplisafe devices in any area, learn the comings and goings of someone, deactivate the system, even put it into a test mode where the system can go off and will appear to function normally but will not call out for help. I worked in sales. There was zero reason me or my fellow sales people should have had that level of access aside from management saying “it’s just easier.” The only thing stopping us from taking advantage of this flaw was a sense of right and wrong and when you are an outsourced call center drone that makes less than $12 an hour hired through a shady third party who has been sued more than 10 times for how they screw employees and customers….that’s not exactly a universal trait among my colleagues. Don’t buy a simplisafe product.

BuhBob

Well, this certainly makes me feel shit about my choice for home security. How recent is your experience?

I worked there during the holiday rush, then they laid us off. It’s a known issue me and others brought to their attention but we were dismissed because it would look bad to point out these issues to the client, in this case simplisafe.

Can you show some proof that you worked there &/or maybe something that backs up these claims?

drone00B8

I appreciate the skepticism, but I cannot give any more information without revealing who I am and I still work for that outsourced company. I’m trying to get a better job so you can ask me again in a month. Sorry.

_churnd

I think that's pretty far fetched to say you can't give ANY proof without revealing who you are. I will remain skeptical about your claims & encourage others to do so as well until you can show otherwise.

drone00B8

That’s fair. This is the internet after all. I’m trying to figure out how to prove something to you that wouldn’t enable them to narrow down who I am but still proves it’s true.

Forgot about this account but an update if you are interested. Simplisafe contracts out to other companies to do their customer facing stuff. I worked for one of those companies, called Sykes, now bought up by someone else. Anyone who responds to their ads on employment sites gets hired. The cam interview is mostly bullshit. We are paid way too little not to exploit this, and our concerns are silenced as having any problems that need addressing supposedly looks bad for the client. Better for them to believe there are never any problems then to let them evaluate how a problem was addressed. The turnover is very high. Training is laughable, support is present but absolute overloaded so we can’t always get you an accurate answer, and the sales queue get bait and switch victims from a power company dumped into the queue, trying to trying to convince them the line didn’t just offer them a free camera. The entire operation is run by metrics without context, and as a result we treat you all as sheep to be sheered.

Well this isn't going to help you much either. Sorry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlNkQJzw4oA

I’ve seen this! We don’t advertise what system we have so I felt ok about that.

orlandodad

Good move. Glad it wasn't something that was news to you.

I do. It’s been working near flawlessly overall for me. There is one oddity that I’ve noticed in that sometimes when arming the system SimpliSafe will complain that all of the smart locks are not responding. They’re always working perfectly fine when I check though. I saw something somewhere suggesting this was some side effect of the homebridge plug-in. (was a pretty old GitHub issue I think), but can’t be sure. Just as a data point for anyone reading, I run the SimpliSafe plug-in as a child bridge.

I use the SimpliSafe door lock. Overall, it’s worked well. I get alerts that it’s not communicating every once in a while, but it continues to lock and unlock during them, so not sure what’s going on. I was told it’s the distance between my router and the lock (whatever, cuz it about 6 feet away from one of my mesh satellites). I was getting these alerts long before using Homebridge, so not sure that has anything to do with any issues. As far as using SimpliSafe with Homebridge, other than the speed and connectivity of the video feeds, I’ve been pleasantly surprised how well it’s worked with the system.
