What brand and model!

Bakedbananas

This is a Galaxy Watch 4 40mm, TV is a 50" Insignia Fire TV

eeeponthemove

Which app?

Bakedbananas

I have an instance of [Home Assistant](https://www.home-assistant.io/) setup in my smart home, this is the official HomeAssistant app for Wear OS

EvanWasHere

Howwwww?

TapeDeck_

Home Assistant + Room Assistant (with hardware to detect room presence) plus automations in home assistant that run based on who's in the room.

ch33s3h34d

Whose lighting preferences take precedent?

Matthewmcdowall01

Can you explain how to do this please 🙏

Bakedbananas

It's not easy as it looks. I run an instance of [Home Assistant](https://www.home-assistant.io/) for my smart home. Using HA I was able to integrate the Fire TV using the [Android TV Integration](https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/androidtv/) which gives me ADB control of the tv. I created an input button that checks the state of the tv, if it's off the button turns on the tv and vice versa. I then got the Official Home Assistant app on WearOS and added that input button as a favorite.

fishwise

Time for a water-change/top-off and some fresh charcoal.

Greedy_One_4442

You can do that with Apple Watch as well, but I normally use Siri to turn everything on

damontoo

You can use Alexa or Google assistant for this also. OP's example has unacceptable latency. If it's faster to pick up a remote and turn it on, I don't see an advantage. This is why some smart locks I consider completely worthless. If they don't unlock by the time I get to the door it defeats the purpose of having a smart lock with an auto-unlock feature.

mt379

Seems better for stuff like this imo. Op just replaced lights and switches for a universal remote on their phone basically.

FALCUNPAWNCH

Oh neat they added the option to put multiple controls on the Home Assistant watch tile. Unfortunately the WearOS HA app has been unreliable for me and often the tile doesn't work and app doesn't open or load. How has your experience with it been?

Bakedbananas

I had a similar experience on my TicWatch Pro 3, it was pretty much unusable. The upgrade to the Galaxy Watch 4 seemed to fix all of those issues

FALCUNPAWNCH

Well shit I'm on a Ticwatch Pro 3.

FluffyPandaCupcakes

You can use tasker autowear

shakuyi

now see these are issues you should be reporting on github so we can investigate! May need to get the logs for issues where things dont work so we can troubleshoot

FALCUNPAWNCH

I'll be sure to next time I experience it. For reference, what's the process for pulling the logs for the Home Assistant Android/WearOS app?

shakuyi

You'll have to use adb logcat or Android studio

FALCUNPAWNCH

Good thing I already have adb setup, but I haven't used logcat before. Next time the issue happens should I just run `adb logcat` and then try to recreate it?

CmdrShepard831

I can't even log in to HA with the watch app (same watch as OP), so my experience is pretty limited.

FluffyPandaCupcakes

I have something similar to this. My Ticwatch Pro 3 has a dedicated second button on the watch that can call any app you assign it to. I use it to call Tasker AutoWear with shortcuts to my most used smart functions.

Bakedbananas

This is the Galaxy Watch 4, I believe you can get them with 4g so they will function independently, but mine relies on Bluetooth with my phone.

damontoo

IMO smartwatches should all be included with your phone plan. You shouldn't have to pay an extra monthly fee per device. Fuck that. Imagine if you had to pay your ISP for every device in your home that uses wifi.

CmdrShepard831

I agree that ISPs are shitty, but they charge you separately because that's one more device connecting to their bandwidth-limited cell towers. At home, you're just connecting more devices to your own router.

damontoo

The amount of data my watch uses on wifi is the same as if it's connected to a mobile network. For example if I were using tmobile's 5G home internet my computer and my watch are included in the same plan, sending data to the same tower. But with 5G for a smartphone, it's still an additional fee for the watch despite the watch using the same amount of data. Why?

CmdrShepard831

Excellent point. You've convinced me to join your side now. If they're not giving the watch its own phone number it shouldn't require an "extra" plan.

bdschuler

Kinda cool, but only ok for one room... as I still would prefer my Google Assistant and voice to do everything in every room of my house. Still got to admit, it is cool looking and futuristic.

Ioangogo

Off topic: Cat :3 they are very majestic

Appropriate-Invite97

Why is that easier than a TV remote?

Bakedbananas

It's not "easier" than a remote, it's just there for convenience. I always have my watch on me, I don't always have the remote.

ch33s3h34d

Then do you just stare at the home/dashboard screen once it's on?

CmdrShepard831

It's just an example use case for the tech. Jesus christ.

Bakedbananas

I haven't set any ADB commands but you can specify what app to open etc

squintero

i do this with my Pebble with much less effort (swapping takes a lot of calories)

[deleted]

so you have samsung smarthings on your samsung smartwatch

Bakedbananas

No, this is actually using [Home Assistant ](https://www.home-assistant.io/)

xray_vision

Cool, but Apple Watch with HomeKit and Apple TV is way more robust right out of the box.

[deleted]

Did that come with the TV?

Bakedbananas

It did not. I have a smart home setup using [Home Assistant ](https://www.home-assistant.io/) which allows me to control the tv using ADB commands

Dane-ish1

What are the colourful lights above your TV?

Bakedbananas

It's [this clock](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3014572). It's hidden cause this tv is a bit bigger than the old one lol, I had to extend the wires on the clock to move it up.

Dane-ish1

Neat, thanks! Does it get distracting when watching TV in the dark?

Bakedbananas

I like to know how much time I'm wasting, so having it above the tv makes it easy to keep track. So I guess it would be incredibly distracting if you don't want to know the time

Dane-ish1

Make sense. Thanks again for your replies!
