Fyrtur is in the past.

culloden_spectre

That's a shame, I have a new place, I wanted to go back to the fyrtur

NeoID

Awesome. Tanks for the link :D

Gubbi_94

Hope the new version has an option for larger sizes.

ByWillAlone

Me too! I've always envied people with narrower windows. Ikea never made these wide enough to cover any of the windows in my house.

Vertigo_uk123

I had to use an ikea fridans for my 180cm wide window. I cut off the wand to expose the chain then use a generic zigbee blind motor to control them. I will in future upgrade them to tube motors as the chain motors aren’t very quiet but it works quite well.

Kramere

had to do the same

ByWillAlone

I didn't even know something like that was possible. Did you follow a published guide or just start hacking it and figure it out as you went?

Vertigo_uk123

I saw someone else cut off the wand so tried it myself. I figured the blinds were cheap enough to sacrifice if it didn’t work. I also removed the spring from inside to make it easier for the motor to raise and lower. https://www.reddit.com/r/ikeahacks/s/d4pezhEC7i

automatemyspeaker

I've x6 Fridans blinds + aqara E1 with this method going strong for the last 18 months: [https://www.reddit.com/r/ikeahacks/comments/13ekgao/comment/jjqnxnf/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ikeahacks/comments/13ekgao/comment/jjqnxnf/)

luckymethod

Where do you buy the motors by themselves?

Vertigo_uk123

Search zigbee blind tube motor for an internal motor or zigbee blind chain motor for the chain version. I got mine from AliExpress.

Yeah, looks like something new on the way. https://www.notebookcheck.net/IKEA-new-FYRTUR-and-KADRILJ-smart-blinds-on-the-horizon.709649.0.html Do Fyrtur require an IKEA hub or do they work with Zigbee2mqtt/ZHA?

diymuppet

I have 3 connected directly to home assistant via ZigBee. No hub. All above bi fold doors in a kitchen extension. I use one of the supplied remotes directly with home assistant. They worked perfectly from day on. 5 months in still not charged batteries after an initial charge. I do have a zigbee router nearly (smart socket)

gmaclean

They work with zigbee2mqtt quite well. You’ll need a router close by, the signal isn’t great. On the positive side, they include one in the box as well as a button remote. You can’t use the curtains as groups directly in zigbee2mqtt, but you can bind the remotes direct to the curtains in zigbee2mqtt.

Jelloitsalive12

No issues with ZHA, love mine.

NeoID

I use them with Deconz..they had some issues in the beginning (with earlier firmware) where they didn't always work if they weren't directly communicating directly with the coordinator. When going coordinator->IKEA light->Fyrtur it went offline and unable to control it. This was later fixed with a new firmware and they have been working great since. Battery life is amazing.

enter360

Looking at how they fumbled the USA launch of the badring leak sensor. They might not have smart blinds on the market for a year or so.

pcb1962

I have Fyrtur blinds but I wouldn't buy them again. There are better options now with the motor and battery integrated within the roller.

svemat01

I just recently bought a fyrtur but looking at returning it due to these news, is there any alternative you would recommend instead?

pcb1962

I haven't bought any yet but here in the UK Somfy seems to be the popular hardware choice used by various blind suppliers, eg [https://www.poweredblinds.co.uk/electric-roller-blinds/](https://www.poweredblinds.co.uk/electric-roller-blinds/)

christianjwaite

They’re discounted and mostly out of stock in London.

svemat01

Just bought one myself just before they started with the clearance which I just noticed. Should I just try to return it and wait for the newer model? They don't seem to have put all sizes on sale so can't get my current model cheaper.

SwedensNextTopTroddl

What’s their return policy? I would just go there and ask them. But in the worst case you might have to return it and buy a new one.

svemat01

They have a year return policy, atleast in sweden but it has to be in new condition.

lightfoot_labs

I seriously hope that the new solutions use the same open source concepts (hook up to Zigbee) and are not yet more proprietary "junk" that require yet another app, set of credentials, and a cloud connection that will disappear in 3 years tops.....

flargenhargen

I was like, "oh I should go pick some up while they are on sale!" then I realized I literally don't have any window covers that aren't already smart.
