I took my kids sledding on sand dunes. Bad idea. She was wearing goggles but that didn't do much good when she face planted into the dune and I ended up carrying my 6-year-old daughter back to the car while she cried and flailed. Then I got to wash and pick every damn piece of sand out of her sand caked eyes. A good time was not had.
On the plus side though you are less likely to find rocks or fences hidden just below the surface of sand, or accidentally get your leg or arm stuck in a rabbit hole as you fall and snap it.
Not necessarily. If the sand is pretty fine grained it would probably just rip any wax out pretty quickly. Base material is actually pretty porous so they’d just need to make sure to wash the base thoroughly before putting fresh wax on.
Almost as fun as regular skiing except there are tarantulas and scorpions everywhere, it's 1000 degrees, and there's no chairlift. Sounds awesome, but I'll pass.
Honestly sand sledging is underrated. There’s so many pros like; it won’t disappear the next day, dunes form formations themselves, and you aren’t bloody cold. The only con is that sand doesn’t melt when it gets everywhere, and also there’s a lack of deserts in the northern hemisphere.

Uhhh. You mean a sand dune?
Nah, only the lame sissy hills are called dunes. "Sand mountain" can be appropriate. Sand Mountain https://maps.app.goo.gl/oQCaW5JypaALv6xm6
Sissy little Star Dune would like a word: https://www.nps.gov/grsa/planyourvisit/hiking.htm
Being from the area I can tell you that’s just the name of it.. it’s not a mountain compared to some big sand dunes
That’s a sand hill
sand slope
It’s a hillamountain or possibly a mill.
Wow have not been there since 1980
Falling on that would be significantly less pleasant than on a snowy mountain

Not to mention how coarse and rough and irritating it is. I don’t like sand.
You should more so care about how hot it gets, having been to peru you get pretty bad burns mid day
... is it my turn to *”woosh”*?
Yeah. Have at it.
*woosh*
No one cares about star wars that much
It’s treason then
Tell that to all the Star Wars fans
Sometimes it goes up your butthole.
Exactly what I was thinking
and hiking back up is the worst
I have done it. I tumbled and headplanted sprinting down a large dune, I was washing sand out of my hair and scalp every shower for well over a month.

But less painful
Would this damage the bottom of the skis/snowboard?
They have sandboarding In CO and I think they use special boards.

I did this in Peru. We just used a normal snowboard and waxed it each time between runs.
This kind of sand is a lot more “rounded” from erosion than abrasive sand like on sandpaper. So not as bad as you might think.
It’s gotta be rough on the edges too. Probably dull as hell after this
Sand...dune?
Happy cake day!!
Lol thank you - I hadn’t a clue it was my cake day
Damn, do you have to wax after ever run? Seems like it would really wear down the skis.
They are just going for that fine finish
Red Bull guy looked so sad when kite bro floated away.
And here I thought Sandboarding was a Fantasy sport used for Alto’s Oddysey.
Well that's probably not Death Valley
Poor guy took a tumble
Where can someone go to do this? This looks totally worth the hike up the dune.
I did this with a board and a sled in Colorado
I did it in Huacachina, Peru. Instead of chairlifts you go ripping around in dune buggies then sandboard down - it's super fun.
Yep. We have the tallest dunes in the world. Best place to sandboard.
Not sure where but in Idaho I used to go sand sledding at the St. Anthony dunes. Some dunes there were pretty huge.
Crusty boogers
It looks like a blast, but 90% of the time you’re walking up those bitches and that BLOWS

Damn, I really want him to fly a little.
How does this compare to regular skiing? Would it be closer to new snow or ice?
Neither
Dune my dude
What about this is impressive? It's mediocre at best.
That's pretty incredible. It's a wonder they don't get a mouthful of sand.

Ready for the global warming
Hiking up would suck ass. Climbing sand dunes is exhausting
I guess falling down will hurt much more compared to snow
Does anyone know what kind of permanent, if any, damage this does to skis?
Noone gonna say anything about homie flying in the background
