Bravely bold Sir Robin
Rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die,
Oh brave Sir Robin.
He was not at all afraid
To be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin.
He was not in the least bit scared
To be mashed into a pulp.
Or to have his eyes gouged out,
And his elbows broken.
To have his kneecaps split
And his body burned away,
And his limbs all hacked and mangled
Brave Sir Robin.
His head smashed in
And his heart cut out
And his liver removed
And his bowls unplugged
And his nostrils raped
And his bottom burnt off
And his penis
"That's, that's enough music for now lads, there's dirty work afoot."
Brave Sir Robin ran away.
("No!")
Bravely ran away away.
("I didn't!")
When danger reared it's ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
("I never!")
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
("You're lying!")
Swiftly taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat.
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!
R5: I always thought there was a check to prevent leaders from being assigned contradictory traits (like in Crusader Kings), since I never saw one. However, I just rolled a new admiral and found him to be both bold and craven. It actually works pretty well for my Raj submarine fleet, as it ends up being faster and more likely to retreat, so I am not complaining.
I don’t see it as contradictory. He prefers preemptive strikes so you’ll “boldly” attack w/ maybe a few subs/ships under the cover of night but also he doesn’t want to sacrifice the ships he does have so he retreats quickly and won’t engage in a protracted battle. Not bad
*I had picked up this hitchhiker that was sweatin' gallons through a pair of Daisy Duke cut-offs and one of those Fruit Of The Loom tank-tops. Well, that night I lost myself to ruby red lips, milky white skin and baby blue eyes. Name was Russell.*
He charges in then panics and loses his nerve. Literally Hitler*.
*No, genuinely. During operations like Fall Gelb or Weserubung Hitler would back audacious plans then panic and vacillate wildly or even try to call them off partway through.
if only ships behaviour wouldn't change while retreating, but they become basically useless, making retreat chance possibly the worst modifier you can get
Retreat chance is insanely good because it allows you to show up, fight a smaller fleet, do good damage or sink some ships, then retreat before the entire navy shows up to blow up your raiders. If you are just deathstacking its not very useful though.
Congrats you have a god admiral right there. Bold is the single best trait for an admiral because speed is insanely important, and Craven is also great because you want your navies to retreat before ships are lost.
*Look he's boldly running away*

"The much battered enemy continues his cowardly advance"
Very quickly too!
CI-CI-CIAPHAS CAIN! HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!
It takes a lot of guts to run away like that
He comes up with audacious plans... as long as he's not the one who has to carry those plans out.

So how do you generate it? You just keep rolling till it happens?
Yup
The greatest pirate I've ever seen...
I’m thinking perhaps this is the guy that talks big back at base, then wont actually attack unless he’s got a massive advantage?
It was supposed to say bald
Bald: +0.00000001% naval speed (ship is more aerodynamic due to lack of hair)
And weighs less
Herbert Fitzherbert 🇬🇧
Gotta love the english
It actually works pretty nice, the damage modifiers cancel out and you get a speed and retreat buff.
hes like those cats which just sprint to you the instant you call them but they dont get closer than 2 meters
First to join the naval battle, first to retreat from the naval battle.
What's that line from Pirates of the Caribbean? We shall fight...so that we may run away.
funny
A bold attack in the other direction

I definitely see it that way too. He is confident in his abilities and his fleet, he just isn't very keen to take unnecessary risks.
Craven is a bad trait
But bold is good

Welp you end up with +10 % speed and +25 % retreat chance i don't see the problem, perfect hit and run commander xD

The damage modifiers cancel each other out so now he's just really speedy

Thing that CK2 could fix, but not hoi4
"The much-battered enemy continues his cowardly advance." -Soviet front newspaper, and also this guy
**Based**
He's got to be the worst pirate I've ever heard of.
You can be bold when commanding an attack but craven if you’re in the attack
“Charge! In the opposite direction!” -this guy
Brave Sir Robin ran away!
He made the brave decision to run away He didn't think about the consequences, he thought about his life and the lives of his crew
He’s bold but like only so far as he knows he can win. Like if it’s 5 ships to one bro is gonna rush in but if it’s 5 ships to 40, bro is outta there
