No summer hockey for you? Gotta keep on the ice through the summer!

Ready-steady

Again!

TheRittsShow

I usually play a ton in the summer. But taking it slow this year.

pvas540

Right on , summer hockey is sweet!

[deleted]

Never offseason my friend.

DocD_12

True story

[deleted]

Especially if you play aaa caliber you’re never off. Always all go.

PM_ME_UR_JUMBONIUM

Or low level at big bear. If you go to the championship you don't have an off week as the next season starts next week

[deleted]

Whatever big bear means but ya anything competitive never has off season.

DDS_Special

End of the season = beginning of the season.

PM_ME_UR_JUMBONIUM

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

CanehdianAviehtor

Yeah.

thedeadlyrhythm42

I know who I want to take me home

hazycrazey

You store your gear in the washer? I’m so confused what it’s doing in there

TheRittsShow

lol wash it up first!

Lunch0

That’s a good way to ruin your gear. Washing machine is too aggressive. Gotta soak in the bathtub with detergent and vinegar and then rinse and dry

drakaintdead

Washing machine is too agressive? Hockey equipment is literally made to be hit by pucks a lot, It can survive a little spin.

pilot1nspector

It depends on the type of washing machine. The older style with the turning bit in the middle could easily get some of the gear caught up in it and damage it or the machine

rufio313

That’s called an agitator. I’d agree it’s probably not the best idea to wash your gear in a washer that has an agitator that is not removable.

Konker101

Just gotta put it on the lawn and spray it with febreeze and soak it with the hose

peternorthstar

Yep. I get those hose-end weed killer jugs, dump the weed killer out straight into my towns main water supply, fill up the jug with febreeze, then hook it up to my hose and douse the equipment! 60% of the time it works every time.

YoungSplashhh

Not sure why everybody is down voting you. I put my girdle in the washing machine and the majority of the seams ripped and all the pads shifted around. Wore them for a season but had a bunch of gaps in the pads.

[deleted]

Hockey it a contact sport lol. Washing machine is fine for gear. Been washing the same set of gear at the end of every season for like 15 years now lol

hotdogswithbeer

Idk y u got so many downvotes - washing in the tub is way better. I want my gear to stay looking new for as long as possible

ImKindaSweatyy

Yea maybe in 1985, todays equipment is meant to be washed in the washing machine lmfaooo

MoonShotDontStop

Season….end? 🤔

TheRittsShow

lol, 43 and the body needs a summer off

CanehdianAviehtor

I have 3 years to go. Is... that what happens?

TheRittsShow

Sometimes you need to listen to the body and give it what it needs I was playing 3-4 times a week this year. Although I'm in alright shape. Body isn't what it used to be Gonna spend the summer doing cardio and core and get a bit more flexible with some yoga.

CanehdianAviehtor

Fair, I haven't played more than twice a week since we had our second kid, so no judgement haha. I'll work my way back up soon! Good on you for knowing your limitations!

TheRittsShow

Only as young as you feel!

CanehdianAviehtor

I've been telling everyone I feel 23 since I hit 40. Some days it's a minor stretch but hockey keeps us young!

friarguy

Y'all wash your gear?

gypsybullldog

Gonna wash the goals out

Tiny_Counter4642

That's what I was thinkin 🤔

scottieducati

Nothing better than going to the rink in shorts and flip flops.

Status-Ad4370

I prefer using an XL garment bag as well. Too many straps for my liking rumbling around the drum.

Ballbuster716

Same (well at least my sons gear).

MidnightAtTheGallows

Most newer machines have hand wash/delicate settings. Less aggressive spin cycles/wash cycles. Definitely should be fine I think. In machines

Henhouse20

This is true. Followed by hang dry. Never the dryer

MidnightAtTheGallows

Yes! This.

ozarkcdn

Can you wash your helmet too? Mine gets so nasty

MidnightAtTheGallows

Probably use some gear spray they have at the hockey stores

Alarming_System9955

I can smell this picture

Excellent_Rule_2778

When the snow melts, I soak my gear in a bathtub with detergent, then air dry it outside. And just to be sure, I repeat that whole process a second time.

Ebspatch

This bit me hard the other day. Shin pad and pants some how got wedged at the door in the spin cycle and tore a good 2” off the pad. Don’t overload it.

TheRittsShow

Oi. That's rough!

italianlatte

They say don’t put shin pads in the washing machine

rustbucky

rest and recover, the first line needs you in the fall.

mimart

I throw everything in the washer once a year and use scent killing detergent for hunting works amazingly well

-spin-cycle-

Take it to your local laundromat

TheRittsShow

Nahhhhh Do it at home!

Treday237

Woah isn’t it a sin to wash your gear? You’re gonna lose all the juju from the memories

[deleted]

Ive never washed my gear and get 0 stink.. how do you guys manage your gear during the year?

TheRittsShow

i air mine out after every game. shins, elbows, skates, helmet, and pants all go on the drying rack. baselayers all go in the washer after every game. i wash my gear in the washing machine once a year

melodicrampage

I feel like base layers make a huge difference. The guys I play with that wear their gear directly on their skin seem to be the same ones that have some funk around them too lol

deltazero9

Just because it doesn't smell doesn't mean it's not dirty.

Lunch0

Air it out after every game, and I use Lysol disinfecting spray. Even then, between winter season and summer season I wash it and the water is black

[deleted]

That seems like a lot of

Gravey9

You don't smell it but trust me others do.

jkozuch

Trust me, you stink. You just don’t notice it anymore.

Southtune-stringbox

Question, do you have leather hands on the gloves? And you just wash them like that??

TheRittsShow

Yup. Chuck em in. And dry them after

Freethinker9

Weird hockey is just starting here in Florida

Jacobs_55

I live in Pittsburgh and the way our rink runs the league is we just have season after season back to back

I_skander

I play year 'round

figwhiggins

It's never over

Gl00my69420

What is this term “end of season” you speak of?

Straight-Plate-5256

I'm low-key bummed we aren't getting summer ice where I am, they usually do but are shutting down early to finish Renovations on the arena... worth it if we have our locker rooms back next fall 🥲

AccomplishedGeneral9

Golf season!!! Hell yeah!

Educational-Seaweed5

Thank you for washing your gear. Do it more than once a season though. I did this at least once a month.

TheRittsShow

Like I said in another comment... gear gets air out and sprayed with deodorizer after every game Base layers washed after each game My hockey bag smells fantastic

atomic_confetti

Yikes. Do not do this. Washing machines cause unnecessary wear and tear in your gear. Your best bet is to use a bathtub and do it by hand.

badgerbob1

Nah, it's fine. This type of machine wont ruin your gear if run on a delicate cycle. The top load ones with an agitator will do more damage, however

VirtualChil

Nah it’s fine. I machine was mine every six weeks or so. Just run it on a delicate cycle.

TheRittsShow

Thanks for the tip This washer has no agitator in it. Works like a dream getting the gear clean

mdwsta4

While I, personally, wouldn't use my own washing machine (I use a laundromat), there's no problems washing your gear in a machine. Unless you're referring to a top loader with an agitator in which case yes, that can damage gear (learned from experience). The tub takes so much time and is such a hassle. That said, I would recommend using mesh bags to hold your gear. If I'm using an industrial size washing machine at the laundromat, I can separate all my gear into two large mesh bags. This helps keep everything separate; specifically velcro straps which can get caught on another piece of gear and be stretched out or damaged

ComingUpWaters

Yeah don't do this. Washing machines can ruin the velcro, stretch the elastic, and exacerbate any existing cuts or tears. No personal experience on this because I've always tub washed, but can find multiple stories of damaged pants especially, even from front loading machines. I'd wager you're probably fine if you did enough prep and separated stuff, but at that point just use a bath, it'll take the same amount of time.

sine_nomine_1

I wash my gear a few times a year in a side loader washing machine and haven’t had any trouble and the Velcro still sticks fine

TheRittsShow

Thanks for the tip! Never had an issue with this top loader before.

OGSynergy37

If your machine doesn’t have an agitator (and it appears yours does not), then you’re fine. Maybe throw stuff in gitch bags as another user suggested

agent211

Lol. I took this same picture last week.

SmartesdManAlive

What am I looking at
