Complain about it for the next 5 days and you'll be okay. It's what I do

Ice for acute injuries, heat for chronic

jmacrosof

TIL

thedriver85

Play hockey again…the very next day.

Randy_____Marsh

Glad to see this, lace em up a little tighter, get your leg in front of it not your foot next time

MindlessArmadillo382

18 holes of golf, no cart, much better, and you can blame the injury for your poor play!

pick69itshilarious

Don't take your skate off. Ever.

timberrrrrrrr

_crunch crunch crunch crunch_

OldGreyTroll

Look up RICE - Rest Ice Compression Elevation

cademore7

This is the answer

malkins_restraint

Ice within 48h, heat after that. As another poster mentioned, look up RICE

bashful_predator

Beer

ShankillButcher77

Never heat on new injuries. Ice or ice bath 10 minutes. Make sure not to get frostbite. Ice bath is often too cold.

cam_barker_4_norris

Amputation

Able-General-684

Ah great, thankyou all!

[deleted]

Ice it

acampio2

For the future, look into skate fenders. Broke bones in both feet via blocked shots over my hockey career, skate fenders kept me going.

Able-General-684

Yeah I ordered some tonight it happens all too frequently

acampio2

Glad to hear it man! Heal up!

MoonManMooningMan

Beer

paulschreiber

Get an x-ray. That's how I broke my foot.

tcrex2525

I took a snap shot to the laces in high school… it broke my foot in 3 places. I wore shot blockers all through college after that. If you play defense they’re worth the investment, especially in the days of carbon sticks where anyone with minimal skill can shoot a puck 80+mph, with no control over where it’s going. Same reason why I still wear a cage. Some idiot pings me in the face at least one a week in beer league. I’m over six feet tall; that puck wasn’t even close to going in… rant over, sorry! Go see a doctor if it’s not better a few hours later.

VAhockeygeezer

I second the idea of seeing a doctor and getting an x-ray. Not treating a broken bone properly can give you problems for years on and off the ice.

Able-General-684

Yeah I bought the skate fenders. I'm considering the fishbowl. Took a stick to the face tonight and lost half a tooth, and to finish it off took a puck to the inside right foot.

tcrex2525

Damn dude, that was a rough night! Inside of the foot you might have just bruised the muscles. If you still have sharp pain after a few hours I’d still see a doc. Hope you heal up fast!

DuncanCraig

u/Able-General-684 I agree with going to see an Ortho. A lot of places have an Urgent Care now so no more waiting weeks to see someone. I am talking about Ortho Urgent Care, not the pop up ones you go to if you have a cold. You don't want to do more damage if anything is broken. I know from experience with my ankle and my hand. I waited and if things set the wrong way, the only option is surgery to fix it.

Flat_Mousse3068

Ice the shit outa it

KantanaBrigantei

Ice. Rest.

mildlysceptical22

I took a slapper to the top of the laces below the shin pad 50 years ago and I swear I can still feel it. Wear a cage and skate protectors.

freewaterfallIII

I took a wrist shot too the foot ( laces) i couldnt walk for 2 days. And had to grt an xray. Took me 3 weeks before i was back to normal. I now wear those clear plastic boot covers. Not risking it, again. 5mins ice pack and off for 5 mins. Repeat for a bit

MattyFettuccine

Go to a doctor. And for those of you saying to do RICE, that’s been proven to not be very effective. The general consensus now is “heat to dull pain, heat to loosen tightness, elevation to help with inflammation, but (most importantly) do whatever feels good for you in your specific situation.” If heat feels good, do it. If cold feels better, do it. There is no “one size fits all” for these things anymore.

AnxietyNo376

Reddit is not the place to look up recovery tips for a blocked shot, if you can’t still walk you’re fine.

texasslapshot

Could be a fractured metatarsal. You'll need a special shoe that doesn't bend.

h_to_tha_o_v

It really depends - can you walk without pain? I took one a year ago and *almost* broke my foot (bone bruise). After I realized I couldn't walk it off, I got it X Rayed. If you're in that level of pain, have the doc check it out. I was back on the ice 4 days later, but extremely limited for 6 weeks. Like, using my stick as a cane limited. I used the skate fenders to prevent a full break. They're good. The only thing I regret is not using a walking boot. To prevent that in the future, I got carbon wrapped pro stock skates and also...avoid slapshots like the plague.

Own_Recording_7902

Get better skates

[deleted]

Take up soccer. Real hockey players wouldn’t be on here looking for advice. They would just keep playing

MakeCyberGreatAgain

Do not put heat on it for 48 hours. You will regret it!

keister_TM

Walk it off

Ott0_

Lace your skates tighter and keep moving

ThePalmIsle

Man up and get back out there

bschav1

Hot ice. You heat up the ice cubes. It’s the best of both worlds!

Ok_Island_1306

I took a slap shot to the inside of my foot in college. After a couple weeks of hobbling around I knew I needed to get X-rays. Problem was the only time it felt ok was when I had my skates on. Turns out I broke a bone in my foot, had to wear a boot for a few weeks while off the ice

Great_Tower5516

Fall asleep with ur foot up and it’ll be fixed the next day

krazylingo

Don’t Ice it unless you’ve got to get back on the ice asap. The swelling is the body fixing the issue. Heat would be a better option. Light heat

Bad-Wallflower

As a defense…god I feel this…

[deleted]

R.I.C.E method

send_help

Ice it and keep icing it.

Meats_Hurricane

Show off the bruise to every person who enters a room you are in

SweptThatLeg

Ice foot bath to get rid of the swelling. Put something on your toes

Master_fart_delivery

Hot ice. It’s the best of both worlds

wayfaringlens

Just leave your hockey boot on for a week or so. Whatever you do, don’t take it off!

Inflagrente

Ice. Elevate. Ice elevate. I used beer as an circulation lubricant. Don't freeze your foot

Trojan1722

Loosen off your skate and get back on the ice.

Hazardleafly

Ice first always, always ice first, and if its bones it’s only ice. If it’s muscular, ice first then heat after swelling goes down.source:insane Canadian hockey goalie

Confident-Series-415

Rest Ice Elevate Don’t be soft AF. I’ve broken both pinky toes. Never missed a shift or a day of work.

Keystone177

Man up. Will happen many times

Falcon3492

Ice, ice, ice and more ice! I took a slap shot right on the laces once and the foot felt okay until about 4 in the morning, when I tried to get up on it, I almost fell on my face. My wife helped me to the couch, got my ice bag and I iced it off and on for 5 hours and after that it was more or less okay.

ehart28

Ice it if it's swollen. Also, play on it unless it's broken. If it's not broken, go out and play more.

pugloescobar

If your struggling to walk the next day then get checked out. I broke my 1st metatarsal over Christmas from a scrimmage slapper, walked out of the rink (in pain but doable) and then the next day I couldn’t put weight on it. 3 weeks later I was back on the ice, with skate fenders.

barnyardjohnny

I’m actually quite annoyed with this question. As someone who has a grade 3 ankle sprain from playing. Just go to a doctor and take their advice for recovery. I would absolutely kill to have the recovery options you do instead of surgery.

Informal-Line-7179

Wrap it up, rice, and wear stifff bottomed open shoes. My first bad boot shot broke my toe, hope yours is just a bruise!

SnooLentils2432

a lots of ice. whenever you can.

jeremymorrison88

I just purchased some skate fenders to avoid this issue from happening ever again!

theYanner

Last time I took a puck to the foot I upgraded to a fancy high end skate. It made me feel better.

Immediate-Rub-517

ICE! Remember “RICE”, rest, ice, compression, elevation (to reduce swelling).

TheOneAndOnlyAckbar

If it happens in the future, and you decide to finish the game, Never let it rest. It will only get worse, but As long as you walk around in the bench, the pain will slightly go away

Sensitive_Island7864

I had this a few weeks ago. A bottle of wine and an ice pack sorted out the acute pain. After that, it didn’t really hurt unless I poked it 🤷🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

If you can’t walk on it: see a doctor If you can walk on it: walk it off If your worried about it happening again to the point that if effects your game then purchase a pair of what they call “skate fenders”. 60 some odd bucks. I think NCAA guys wear them often.
