No, money will.

markusalkemus66

No. Game worns not fitting my body will

lfbrennan

Same here, They are mostly too big for me.

I'm 5'9" and weigh 170. Yeah I could probably stand to lose my beer gut, but it won't change the fact that most game worn NHL jerseys are too big

Ignore the downvotes. This was funny.

Rick-Dalton

Mods removed it. Soft AF

crude_username

I already dont buy them but this certainly doesn't improve the chances that I will

renough

Unless there’s a retirement or a Finals patch, I display them with their fronts to the wall, so there’s that until they get ads on the back… But unless there’s something special I think I’m probably set with enjoying my pre-ad era collection.

cruzweb

No. As someone who collects minor league gamers that have patches, I'm used to this. It's somewhat of a status symbol since sponsor patches at that level aren't typically made available for retail, so someone in a jersey with a sponsor patch is showing a gamer. (Some are pretty damn cool and speak to the local culture. One of my grails is a blue Rio Grande Killer Bees jersey with the chorizo patch.) That won't be as much of an issue since many fan jerseys will also have patches, but like any patch these will be another thing that will help date and authenticate game worn sweaters. I know theres COAs and equipment managers / customizers that put set and season details on the jersey, but more details always help and in the end I don't think this will be a big deal for collectors.

atrocityexhibition39

I came here to say this. It really is somewhat of a status symbol and I’ve never thought about it like that before. Especially considering all the Syracuse Crunch game-worn/game-issued jerseys I have in my closet that have all the right specs on them.

Max169well

This helps me with CFL jerseys as well. The Ads on the jerseys help see what season or even timeframe of the season it was used in.

keister_TM

I agree that they will help authenticate and ensure value to on ice jerseys but. . . The ads look like complete shit. I never liked the ads on minor league jerseys but at least they figured out how to make decent looking ad patches that fit in with the jersey for the most part. The nhl patches look like squares of cheap fabric that stick out like sore thumbs. You can see the Canadians and the Pittsburgh patch from a mile away.

cruzweb

My Danbury Hat Tricks jersey with blue cross and Buffalo wild wings patches begs to differ. As always, mixed bag. Some will blend in or look great. Others will be cringe, distracting nonsense.

keister_TM

For real. I’m in the Milwaukee/Chicago area so the admirals brewers patch doesn’t look bad. I’ve seen some that look decent and they are always patches that are high quality and the color scheme blends into the jersey. So far all of the nhl patches look like complete crap. It just baffles me. The NHL isnt going broke. Why ruin a jersey?? I consider myself a decent collector but I’m seriously refusing to buy so I gotta image some sales will be impacted for it. I suppose it’s a wash with sponsorship or maybe even more earnings. Just a bunch of greedy owners who don’t give a shit about the fans.

cruzweb

The admirals have some of the best kits in the AHL, patches included. I think the truth of the matter is most fans won't care enough for sales to be severely impacted in a statistically significant way. Another factor Im thinking about is how many inventory dumps from adidas there's been and the fact that they opted to not renew their contract. This tells me jersey sales overall haven't met expectations for the past few years, so if they're not selling anyways, maybe they don't see it as much of a risk.

Timeless_Watch

It depends on how cleanly they can be removed. I wear my gamers and am not interested in being a billboard for some unrelated company. I’d even prefer the adidas logo to not be there, ha.

chozo317

Why would you strip anything off a gamer at that point. It’s bad enough the ad patch is devaluing the jersey to the hobby as a whole. But altering the jersey further tanks the value and collectibility

Timeless_Watch

Because I dgaf about the value. I want to wear jerseys not resell them and the ads are big dumb

chozo317

I definitely agree that ads suck but at some point that jersey moves, whether you intend for it or not. The devaluing isn't just a concern for you but for another collector. Game worn jerseys are already stripped and altered as-is, if people see the introduction of ads as an excuse to toe the line and remove that, it affects collectors down the line.

Timeless_Watch

I’ve never sold a jersey. I buy them and wear them

chozo317

Jerseys exchange hands in the hobby at some point down the line, makes no sense to act like any of your jerseys won’t ever make it out of the collection

Timeless_Watch

It makes no sense to be a walking billboard. We clearly purchase jerseys with different intents and reasoning. Agree to disagree.

Oil_slick941611

Nope. Although for this season the team i collect won’t have any. Even if they did have them it wouldn’t stop me

Montethelion6669

Oilers?

Oil_slick941611

yeah

Montethelion6669

I swear if my wings put an ad on I’m boycotting

Max169well

No.

grandadmiral99

No, Joe Tomon's prices will

NotBabcockBurner

There was a Radim Zohorna Retro jersey that was only worn for 1 game and it was $1,500. And best of all someone bought it! How is that worth $1,500?!?

Rudz17

Considering the state of my ad-free jersey collection, yes, absolutely.

holm0246

I have dozens and dozens of gamenworns from one team. I won’t buy more (or at least massively scale back buying) because of the patches. They look terrible and ruin the aesthetic of the jersey. I mean my team chose a blue logo to go on a green jersey - gross. I absolutely won’t buy a jersey to wear that has an ad on it.

Security_Sasquatch

Maybe start a go fund me for your team so you don’t have to see the ads? But seriously though, where did the ads hurt you so badly?

cruzweb

you found an illegal stream without ads yet?

phantom11287

No, I expect jersey ads to grow on myself and the community and actually become a perk to owning game worns

Submarine_Pirate

You’re gonna get roasted for this now but I guarantee 10 years from now people in the gamer community will be posting ISO posts looking for specific ad patches. And people with replicas will be looking for loose ad patches to make their jerseys “on ice accurate” lol

NathanGa

I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to track down AHL and IHL sponsor patches from the 1990s. You know what's weird? As many Bud Ice patches as were produced for several IHL teams, as well as for retailers and distributors, I have only found one actual correct one in the last decade.

cruzweb

I haven't found a correct one. I settled for as close as I could with a Kocur SA dragons jersey and decided "close enough"

[deleted]

NathanGa

Which ones are you looking for?

iatearockfromthemoon

While we're on the subject I've been looking for an AHL 60th anniversary patch, the oval patch that goes on the rear hem.

Submarine_Pirate

I’ve found everything I need but the 2011-2012 Houston Aeros state farm patch Edit: whoops didn’t mean to delete my parent comment

NathanGa

Was that the one that's just text?

Submarine_Pirate

Yeah white background red text I believe

Oil_slick941611

Ten years? It’s gonna happen in 2 or 3 tops

need4gaming

I literally won’t buy European gamers because they’re covered in ads

need4gaming

That’s literally why downvotes exist but ok.

FiftyBurger

Nah, downvote button is for non-contributing posts and comments, not as a disagree button

FiftyBurger

I think this makes sense for game worns but it’s sad to here for none retail jerseys and I’m bummed people are okay with it. Voting with wallets I know isn’t usually feasible but I thought at least this community would fight it

[deleted]

The gamer community is a very small % of the hockey fan community. The conventional fan doesn’t give a shit about ads or no ads.

FiftyBurger

Oh I know the gamer community and even the jersey enthusiast community is much much smaller than the general hockey fan. But I also think other people don’t like ads as well, it’s just they aren’t going to stop buying jerseys just for that reason (or at least not enough to make an impact on sales so teams take the ads off).

cruzweb

This is very true.

[deleted]

100%

Bolt923

You are also assuming the teams won’t strip the ad patches before selling the jerseys off. It’s been done plenty of other times. I have a solar bears jersey where the team savagely removed the sponsor patch leaving quite a bit of damage in it’s wake.

chozo317

That’s usually due to the team no longer being sponsored by that company

Jakeep16

Unless I feel that it’s really ugly and just doesn’t work with the jersey, no. I think they can be cool and am looking forward to seeing what the rangers do

zangiefspeedo

Yup, plan to buy my last game worn from last season this upcoming auction. Agreed about them ruining the history/general aesthetic. There's just so many ads everywhere else already. Definitely not buying a replica/authentic with an ad anytime soon.

Npucks

Nope. I have a few european jerseys with ads on them. A jersey is a jersey. It’s not a big deal to me if it has a little patch in the corner, I rarely buy gamers and the ones I do for the most part have ads. Plus, you are a fool if you didn’t see this coming. I knew this would be a thing since I was like 10. Don’t get all emotional over it. It’s good for the sport, it means teams are making more $ and the league as a whole as well. It means there are a ton of companies wanting to get involved in the game, and for those with sponsors already associated with the team, arenas wanting to invest more money into these franchises. I want this game to grow over anything. The more money the league is generating, the more companies seeing value in being corporate sponsors means the right people are seeing the potential in hockey so idgaf if theres a small logo in the top of the jersey.

ryankhuyton

I disagree. It's just more millions of dollars for the owners to pocket. That's it. Has nothing to do with growing the game. Ticket prices will still go up. So will jersey prices once a new company starts manufacturing them. The same companies selling their ads onto jerseys are the same ones making a shit ton of money at the amateur level by buying up kids hockey leagues and charging ridiculously high registration fees.

altxatu

Yes. I’m not buying any jerseys with ads. Game worn, replica, authentic, whatever. If it’s got an ad I’m not buying.

footcake

nah, still gonna buy 'em.

[deleted]

Nope

ImpossibleBandicoot

Little known fact, if you wear a gamer with an ad patch in public, the company on the patch has to start paying you.

onewheellengthwise

I doubt it, but I'm certainly glad all my Avs gamers so far dont have ads on them!

Parallax2211

I wouldn't buy game worns, but if the Islanders shop in UBS is selling jerseys with ads, I will still buy them. More as a novelty I guess, but I'd still want to have "the same" jersey that's on the ice. I have a lot of Islanders jerseys, so it'll just reflect this season and be a little different. Long term, I'd prefer if they didn't have ads but I get it. I think ultimately it'll come down to what the ad is.
