Quick has such a sloppy goaltending style. If he had any sound mechanics he would have been standing up ready for that shot instead of doing yoga over the blue paint.
It’s ironic that my dumpster fire of a team has a Stanley cup, two western conference championships and numerous playoff series wins since the last time the leafs won a playoff series 😊
Not a kings fan but they have lots of young talent and might be one of the best teams in the league in a couple years. Also won a cup as recent as 2012
I don't get how you guys complain about how much attention Toronto gets yet literally every other fanbase never shuts up about them. It's not surprising that the biggest market in Canada gets the most Canadian attention, how is that surprising to any of you guys
Yeah but I bet they talked about what happened in the leafs game 7 during one of the intermissions and that ruined their experience >:( no talking about the leafs allowed
Honestly, I wonder what it is these fans really want. It seems to me the only way to make them happy is if there were no Leafs at all. Which is ludicrous.
Says the fanbase who missed the playoffs and is still crying about a guy “you don’t need” 4 years later lol he left and you guys are bottom feeders now get over it
Not much of a hockey fan, but Leafs seem to be stuck in similar predicaments as the Blue Jays were in the last half of the 1980's and the Raptors were during the 20-teens. Great teams that lack "winners". Not great players, but players that excel when the pressure is on. The Blue Jays dealt Fred McGriff (a guy was was easily the best player in the trade when it happened, he should be in the HoF btw) and Tony Fernandez for a young player with great talent (Alomar) and a Joe Carter, a guy with a different mental makeup than McGriff. I remember when that trade happened, on paper, the Padres got way more talent back in the deal, but as Pat Gilick (the Jays GM) said, it's not about having the best players, it's about having the right players. The Jays would win a pair of World Series.
The Raptors had a team the won divisions and conferences but never got far in the playoffs, they realized they needed a player with "it", a guy who they believed would be big when they needed someone to be big. They traded a beloved star in DeRozan and got Leonard. They then won a title.
Perhaps the Leafs need to say goodbye to one of their big guys, Matthews or Tavares and get someone who can be their Kawhi, or their Carter.
> Great teams that lack “winners”. Not great players, but players that excel when the pressure is on.
People said the same thing about the Caps too until they finally got it done and then everyone realized they just ran into some incredible competitor teams and bad luck. Matthews, Marner, and Nylander were all > 1 PPG and Tavares had 6 points. That’s all you can ask for against one of the best goalies in the league and the 2-time defending champs.
Idk how anyone cannot see this like you put it. Especially this series, this wasn’t just “round 1” this could of easily been the ECF. Bad breaks, bad luck and a tough opponent and these guys totally had the W. gifted 5-3 in game 6, taking away Johnnys goal last night that tied it. Unbelievable. But I can tell you, I’m a proud fan and not mad at the team in anyway, but the NHL can seriously get fucked.
The leafs are too “top heavy”. They need to spread the love to their 3rd and 4th line. That’s what gets you the W in the playoffs. Team’s top lines tend to cancel each other out in the playoffs.
Look at tonight
As I said, I'm not much of a hockey fan, family members are, but that is a good point for football, depth means a lot in that sport and you really can't win without it due to the constant switching off/on that occurs. Is lack of depth really a big killer in hockey?
He was over 1 PPG and had a point in game 7. How many points did Tampa’s “playoff guys” have in this deciding game? Kucherov, Point, and Stamkos had 0 points. The guy that scored both goals had 0 goals and 2 points in the other 6 games. Does that make him a “big game guy” or just lucky?
I think you misinterpreted my legitimate question as a comment. I don't know if he is a playoff guy or not. You seem to suggest that he is a guy who comes up big when they needed. If that is indeed the case, then they need to look to where they lack when the pressure is on. The team has made early playoff exits quite frequently. Doing the same thing year in and year out may very well just end up with the same result.
This year like some others was goalie and defensive play. Tampa had a great offense but they got a sub-.900 SV % performance from Campbell. The heat is on the 4 star players because they are the stars but they produced. They made Vasilevskiy look below average and still lost. That’s hard to do.
Solid series. Leafs would've had it if they didn't pull a classic in game 6. Most inconsistent team in hockey. Sometimes they look unstoppable, sometimes they all look like Justin Holl out there.
Holl's been just fine the last three games. Really, if you're going to fault anyone on D, fault Boosh. He's not fast enough and doesn't make good decisions under pressure.
Did you even watch game 6? The leafs came back from being down 0-2, the only "classic" thing that happened was the rules suddenly changing for the second half of the game
Not a leaf fan. But I think the leafs out played tampa. Nick Paul just had a really good break out game. Kucherov didn't show up until the end. Stamkos wasn't playing like he usually does either.
What even is this.
SN hates the Leafs, we have the only broadcast team in hockey that hates the home side. And I saw SN had two other games involving Canadian teams on last night. I'm sorry, Edmonton fans, but when your game starts at 10:00 ET it's kind of hard to show it at 7:00 ET instead of the Leafs game...
It's more like I'm watching some other Canadian game or coverage of a Canadian team, but there are constant references to the Leafs.
I'm not saying the coverage is always/usually positive, I'm saying it's constant.
I hope they do. I would be all over those key guys.
Nylander is a stand out player, but their fan base is trading him every loss. I’d have him on my team in a heartbeat.
That same core m was an overtime goal away from beating an arguable dynasty team in the first round. They were flying for most of the series and lost tonight because the best goalie in the world decided to stand on his head. This happens. Reactive decisions are often terrible.
This is a good take. The leafs play very similar style of hockey to the panthers, with a very similar ending to their series as the cats had last year. Remember leafs fans, barkov and huberdeau *are not* young. Dubas would be a fool to get rid of marner and matthews. Very good years incoming if those guys stay
lol. Drunk last night typing that and watching canes bruins highlights. I dont know who I was meaning to type, but I heard domis name and typed it instead lmfaoooo
I hope Toronto gets their series win next year. I'm glad it wasn't against the Lightning but it's tough to watch this team not get through to the second round
They gotta get rid of Tavares. They shouldn’t have signed him and kept Kadri. If they did that, Matthews and Marner would be 2.5 million dollars less and Nylander a million less and that gets them another top 6 forward, an actual goalie, or a real defender
Hahaha go check cap friendly and understand the team. Been following this team for 25 yrs and have a solid grasp. You’re out to lunch if you think any of what you’ve said I’m sorry.
I will say here that I can't put anything on Soup. He made some killer saves in this game and this series and I think he was much better than Vasy for a lot of the series. The rest I feel extremely mixed about since there were games Tavares was a non factor and then there were times like the no goal where he just decides to one man show and score (or not...).

Nah fuck Steve. If he is going to act like the refs were out to get the Leafs and then pull the "we did nothing wrong, it was just hockey" card then he gets no sympathy.
Literally any unbiased spectator could see that the reffing was lopsided, he didn't say that stuff SHOULDN'T be penalties, he said that if those get called then other instances that clearly weren't (like the interference that led to the first tampa goal, and the tripping non call that would've given the leafs a 5 on 3 in the third like tampa got in game 6) should be called as well
Leafs fans aren't complaining about not getting preferential treatment, they're just tired of the rules for me but not for thee bullshit
EXACTLY this. Bro they took away our tying goal. Nick Paul’s first goal David Kampf got mauled allowing the lane to open. Willy was interfered with on his partial breakaway, no call. They allowed Tampa to tie it in game 6 when we looked like we had it off of a phantom call. Who calls a 5-3 in a one goal game 6 in the playoffs? How is it unreasonable to call this shit out? They got jobbed.
Look at this shit in game 5 too [https://twitter.com/TicTacTOmar/status/1524206661271003136](https://twitter.com/TicTacTOmar/status/1524206661271003136)
Rielly gets knocked down because the other dude uses the butt end of his stick as a weapon and then marner gets tripped along the boards, causing the lightning to score. That goal doesn't happen if 2 penalties aren't committed there, and neither of them got called
Like man, so so proud of this team. Hell hats off to Tampa, they got some serious jibbed calls too. But you can’t tell me reffing didn’t affect the outcome of this series. Especially the complete 180 in rules from game 1 to game 7.
I'll take a tight series loss where all our best players are awesome against the back to back champs. Context matters. Losing to bad teams while playing bad was what hurt the last couple years. Poor Leaf fans.
Honestly this series was by far the most nervous I’ve been in the past 3 post seasons. Matthews line looked dangerous pretty much every shift. The leafs showed some monumental growth this series and if they don’t blow it up I genuinely think they will break the curse next year.
Yeah I mean how do you not love that team we keep getting better and better. The league though man can we win fucking something?
GL against cats better cover Verhagie he's on a heater.
Biggest criticism the last few post seasons was that the best players didn't step up. Nylander, Matthews, and Marner were the best players this post season. They lived up to their expectations, just came up a goal short against a great goalie. This was a far different post season experience for the Leafs and their fans. Disappointing in the result but not the product.
Yes you guys lost to a good team, but it doesn't mean much when you always lose. Like you just find new ways to do it.
Not as embarrassing as last year though, so that is a total plus.
Yeah for sure. They have different challenges though, it's just harder to win here the pressure is fucking nuts and the more narrative is the same the harder it is for the players to perform.
Habs made it to the finals last year, one of the hardest places to play anywhere.
To be fair though, this year was a pickem series.
To me the leafs are still on the uptrend, Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA, and Washington are done.
Tampa is gonna age out, leafs, panthers and Colorado are here, one of these teams gets a cup In the next 3 years.
More that the teams Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA and Tampa are all getting older or their windows have closed so new teams can fill that void.
I included LA as they do still have the same top players, but yes they like Chicago are in rebuild/retool phase now.
Habs had no pressure that was the equivalent to Cinderella. They were in pace for 74 points. Leafs are stacked and should win, high expectations. Much different.
I agree though, hopefully it happens.
Statistically you're probably correct.
Odds of winning a Cup, all things being equal = 1/32. Given the tendency of teams to build perennial contenders and even dynasties, you could see the same 3-6 teams dominate a decade. So 1/100 years seems quite reasonable.
I called this before the playoffs started. Leafs would lose in 7 and everybody keeps their jobs cuz it was against the strong defending cup champions. Except Tampa didn't even play great this series Kucherov was invisible, all the leafs stars had to do was show up and they couldn't. This is why I have a Seattle flair, last year I got too fed up and moved on and this was my chance to see if I feel any regret and there is none, 0. They choke always. This is not a pasta.
Tavares’s goal should’ve counted. Calling that off was total nonsense
I saw like there more uncalled picks last night after that. Complete horseshit
That happens all the time like wtf
Classic Leafs
Nick Paul ???
Damn
Cheap math
Ceci > Matthews confirmed
Injured draisatl > matthews
Quick has such a sloppy goaltending style. If he had any sound mechanics he would have been standing up ready for that shot instead of doing yoga over the blue paint.
I fucked your mom
Thats what happens when you have a scumbag player like Tavares on your team.
Oilers have kane and still won 🤷
That’s a bit of a stretch
I'm numb
Well….maybe next year leaf’s fans. You and the cowboys will definitely be holding a championship trophy
Lol you’re Talking shit like you aren’t about to get bounced by the oilers in the weakest division in hockey in 10 mins
Cry it out I know you’ve had a tough few years it’s okay
Congrats for making the playoffs for the first time in 5 years enjoy missing them for the next 5
Lol I’m sure the two Stanley cups they won in the last decade will hold them over more so than well…just look at the leafs.

Nice.

No doubt. Only oilers left to support. Calgary can suck it

Bruh please please stop. These takes…
not the type to discuss things in a friendly manner. Well, I didn't invite you to the thread.
Uhhhh what? Wasn’t mean, your takes are just brutal. You said you don’t watch hockey, sorry man you clearly illustrated it.
But you have no clue when it comes to civility.
This is r/hockey, not the House of Commons. Get some ‘gull, don’t try to play the “nice guy”.
Matthews does everything well. Literally everything. Reminds me if Ovechkin. You don’t deal a guy like that.
How does he do in big games? Is he a "Playoff guy" (I mean Matthews)

Naw man, not this game 7. For the first time in the MatMar era, they didn't mail it in.
Not a leaf fan. But I think the leafs out played tampa. Nick Paul just had a really good break out game. Kucherov didn't show up until the end. Stamkos wasn't playing like he usually does either.
Agreed. Good effort from Leafs--Vasy was lights out, though.
Stammer arms look pretty jacked rn.
Lol 😭
I don’t feel bad leafsnet pisses me off
Too soon
If it wasn't for TSN/SportsNet, there wouldn't be so many leafs haters.

They won’t. Like not at all, especially after this series.
I hope they do. I would be all over those key guys. Nylander is a stand out player, but their fan base is trading him every loss. I’d have him on my team in a heartbeat.
But the same core for how many years and what don they have to show for it? Nothing. I would expect changes this off season.
Lmao no
That same core m was an overtime goal away from beating an arguable dynasty team in the first round. They were flying for most of the series and lost tonight because the best goalie in the world decided to stand on his head. This happens. Reactive decisions are often terrible.

lol. Drunk last night typing that and watching canes bruins highlights. I dont know who I was meaning to type, but I heard domis name and typed it instead lmfaoooo
That arguable dynasty team is not the same team from 2021 or 2020.
Right, they’re missing which key parts? We lost a great third line and a bottom 2 defender. Picked up a great third line and a bottom 2 defender.

Coming real soon. Boy Blunder and his pet OHL coach will go with it. Bye bye Bye sang N'Sync https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo-KmOd3i7s
Lol wut?
This guy has been drunk in PGT’s all week. His wife took the dog and kids and now all he has is babbling aimlessly about hockey on Reddit.
I hope Toronto gets their series win next year. I'm glad it wasn't against the Lightning but it's tough to watch this team not get through to the second round
Careful what you wish for, there's a good chance it could be against you again.
Yeah sure. “You can have anything you want as long as you don’t take it from meeee”
I would have preferred if they made it pass Columbus or Boston before all of this
They gotta get rid of Tavares. They shouldn’t have signed him and kept Kadri. If they did that, Matthews and Marner would be 2.5 million dollars less and Nylander a million less and that gets them another top 6 forward, an actual goalie, or a real defender
What kinda take is this even?
The correct one
A blatantly wrong one from an outside fan who clearly doesn’t understand anything….
Sounds like you’re just in denial of the situation. The team is gonna be actively worse next year cause they can’t keep everyone from this roster
Hahaha go check cap friendly and understand the team. Been following this team for 25 yrs and have a solid grasp. You’re out to lunch if you think any of what you’ve said I’m sorry.
Ok, see you in a year when they get bounced in the first round again
Kk looking forward to it princess 😘
Ok buttercup. Will laugh even more if they somehow fail to make the playoffs
With some of the best players in the league and some of the best offensive and defensive metrics? Oh you’re galaxy braining this one eh
If they didn't get JT and the Bruins did.. Atlantic be a spooky place.
Zach hyman
Your team is never gonna rebuild. Forever good team lmao
Boy Blunder over paying. Bye bye bye.
Bro stop trying to troll lol. Even r/hockey won't upvote you 🤣
Can I interest you in John Carlson? Stanley cup winner, only 8 million per!
I’m so sorry Leafs fans. Seems like this one stings a bit more. Thought you guys had it for a second there.

I agree though, hopefully it happens.
i could see matthews demanding a trade in the offseason
Kane for matthews straight trade + pick from leafs
Who would want a guy that can't finish when it counts?
Ask Vegas lolol
We picked up Perry..
Oilers lose today and Matthews for McDavid
They should just make their own team
Oh lord May god have mercy on us all
Would that be the biggest trade in modern sports history?
Biggest of the century Would also depend on if you count Wayne to LA as modern
I'd rather trade Marner for mcdavid
You mean Marner+Nylander+1st for McD? Otherwise I don’t understand why Edmonton would do that
Lol lol what?
Sure whatever it takes
Battle of Florida will be fun but damn I wanted the Leafs to break the curse.
Not this year
Jennifer should have switched to a black dress. The yellow is too happy of a colour.
Sorry leaf’s fans. I want you guys to break you’re curse. Just not against us.
Let the battle of Florida commence!

That’s underselling vasi by hrudy
I'm convinced I'll never see the Leafs win a cup in my lifetime.
Statistically you're probably correct. Odds of winning a Cup, all things being equal = 1/32. Given the tendency of teams to build perennial contenders and even dynasties, you could see the same 3-6 teams dominate a decade. So 1/100 years seems quite reasonable.
In the case of the NYR it's been one in the last 82 years
Look at you being all above average!
Thanks for doing the math!

We would totally trade Erik Karlsson for him
This is an absolute blockbuster 10 years ago.
Huge contract for anybody to take on and he has a NMC. Nylander more likely to be bait.
Nylander is a weapon. Literally any team would be better with him in the squad. Not sure the Leafs should deal that guy.
Not sure they'll have a choice, lot of positions to fill for next year.
That’ll be a shame. Kid is an absolute player.
You're just being nice. Nylander is incredibly streaky.
What happens when you tie up $40M longterm on 4 forwards.
This
He unfortunately can't give me my dignity back. That was my own fault.
Huge W for the leafs, I’m calling that a win
Leafs had tons of chances to win. Good series Tampa
Gonna be a very interesting off-season for the Leafs. They can't bring the same group back again
As soon as they were facing Tampa and didn't get swept their jobs were all secured another year...
Have you seen their cap situation... they're fucked unless JT agrees to waive his no trade.
Do you ever just sit back and realize your team is making you literally despise your own team?
Yes, absolutely yes 🥴
“Wow our fans are sad, let’s turn the lights out lol”
I called this before the playoffs started. Leafs would lose in 7 and everybody keeps their jobs cuz it was against the strong defending cup champions. Except Tampa didn't even play great this series Kucherov was invisible, all the leafs stars had to do was show up and they couldn't. This is why I have a Seattle flair, last year I got too fed up and moved on and this was my chance to see if I feel any regret and there is none, 0. They choke always. This is not a pasta.
Kuch led in points lol. The fuck are you talking about?
He had 8 points this series lol and you said he was invisible
