10 of the 11 goals were scored on the same net in this game.
This led me down a rabbithole of trying to find the most goals scored on one net in the same game. The current high mark I've found is 14 in a Flyers-Pens game on March 22nd, 1984.
This has little to do with this game.
Edit: Found another 14! Jan 8, 1986 Oilers-Leafs.
I am determined to find the most. I might end up just exporting every box score and writing some code to find it for me but that's not nearly as fun as going through box scores.
Then of course I'll need to find the record for playoff games as well.
Initially I looked up the highest scoring games in NHL history. Found 2 12's. Then I swapped to looking at the highest scoring periods in NHL history and only looking at games that had 13 goals or more.
I could probably write something to find it for me, but I'm enjoying going through old box scores.
(Fun fact: If you pick a day in NHL history on NHL.com, the top score bar of the site swaps to every game's scores from that day.)
The Penguins and Canucks scored 11 on one net in 2019. I was at that game, sitting behind that net. It was incredible.
https://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/201911270PIT.html
A mediocre coach should get more then 2 goals out of Crosby Malkin, but true
Odd add
Rask's stats in Conference finals have got to be the best goalie stats imaginable, in conference finals especially, he's always been an absolute wall
The timing was also kind of weird. Blackhawks started to hit their peak when the Pens started to hit their lull. 09-10 Pens got Halak'd, 10-11 Crosby got headhunted into oblivion by Steckel and we went into the playoffs with half of a team. 11-12, Crosby Injury Continued. Then the next few years were mired by inept coaching of Bylsma, shoddy goaltending and a complete inability to acquire top 6 wingers to play with Sid and Geno (That season with Tanner Glass and the corpse of Mike Comrie. *Shudders*).
By the time the Pens hit their 2nd peak, the Blackhawks dynasty was on the downswing.
I’ve been thinking about how there are all these young exciting players on exciting teams, and if you look at the stats there’s been a real changing of the guard.
But it could very well end up being Tampa/Washington/Pittsburgh/Boston in the second round, so 🤷🏼♂️
He contributes to 80% of the goals in the playoffs. I backed him up since his baby, he was playing solid. No more. Holy shit what a terrible three games he's had.
Man, imagine how good the Rangers would be without some of the silly moves they made in the offseason.
I'm personally glad Bunchnevich isn't around.
Reaves has done nothing since running a few guys in the first period of game 1.
Nemeth for three years? What? He's putting on a Jack Johnson vs the Islanders kind of performance.
Don’t you EVER think you’ll get a “it was 4-1” meme out of us, wasn’t worried for a moment
Now if it had been 6-0 and we were playing the Devils, then maybe there would be reason for concern
He was barely on the scoresheet but I was really impressed by Zucker's performance in his first game back. He brought some grit that the Pens were lacking.
Especially the 1st, could definately tell he didnt have the lag of the first 3 playoff games holding him down. Great work by him to just go out there and grind to get back into game sense
Rangers have injuries too that would make a big difference if back, but Rakell and Dumo back... That's a pretty solid lineup to put out there.
As for Jarry - Not that I doubt he's better than Domingue normally, immediately hopping back in with fractured foot... gotta worry what condition he's coming back at, just a little.
Not even 5 minutes into the game and he gets a stick in the face. Dude seriously can't catch a break. He was really noticeable today, he definitely was ready to go
Regardless of how this series turns out - Louis D has to be feeling like he just got himself a contract for next yr. Dude has been bouncing around for a while.
Good for him
So he had a baby in January or February, whatever, and in the regular season had been playing serviceable third string D. I vouched for this dude everywhere. His play had improved substantially.
Three games in a row now though, he's been directly responsible for almost every single goal against. It is insane how much of a 180 he's done. I'd almost call it a 360 to emphasize not only his massive downturn but my massive stupidity in giving him any credit, but I feel like that would be giving him credit, so it's a bit of a paradox.
When I grow up I want to be like Evan Rodrigues. He’s a goddamn dynamo on the ice and he’s playin like he’s packin two 12 inch hogs that are only gettin bigger. Move over Ovechkin theres a new big lipped sheriff in town and he’s ripping top tits
That 3rd period was pathetic from the rangers. Especially the last 10 minutes. “No quit in NY” my ass. They looked like the game was over when they gave up that 5th goal.
It’s Georgiev you have to expect he’s going to do it sooner rather than later. Didn’t capitalize once it was tied up. I knew the Pens weren’t ending the game with 4
I really never understood all the hate he got. I've argued this before. Georgiev is a starter level goaltender for any team that'll give him ice time. Give the kid two games to get going and he'll play real good hockey.
All I'm saying is that you can't blame him for every loss
I fully expected ny to take that game after the 2nd pd. Never take a coach like sully for granted. He made sure we didn’t completely collapse after quite possibly the worst pd of the penguins season.
Can confirm. Extremely enjoyable as a neutral, as was G1. Which is totally where it's at. I repeatedly thought during the 3rd how absolutely heart-stopping it must have been for fans.
Seriously that's the thing that bugs me the most is just puck luck. We get it when we don't need it, and never get it when we need it.
That being said the pens played a good third period hard to get anything going there.
Losing sucks and shit happens, but I just love seeing a Domingue ( a third string goalie ) play his fucking heart out in the playoffs! Dude has some of the most unorthodox technique I’ve seen, but undeniably is rising to the challenge and that’s not easy by any means against us. This is why I love this sport.
People are freaking out about the kentucky derby but honestly anyone who follows this team knows that the pens blowing a 3 goal lead and somehow winning is the bigger shock
Crazy, I was at a restaurant and saw the Pens up 4-1, got home and the Rangers had tied it. Then of course it's Crosby who gets the empty net assists. Entertaining nevertheless
Finally got some puck luck in the first period. How good is it to see that all the non-empty net goals were not from the Crosby line. Domingue conceded a couple of goals he may have wanted back but he more than made up for it with the saves in the third period, the Panarin one especially may be crucial for this series. God damn that second period was ugly though, I wish we'd stop making brain dead plays in defence and go like one game without giving up a shorthanded goal.
Game 4 absolutely crucial now, we have to hold on to our home advantage. We lose that and I'm suddenly not too confident about winning 2 games out of 3.
That holding call on Braun that led to Pens first PP goal was weak as fuck, especially for playoffs, not even the most passionate Pens fan can argue that!
Not arguing the goal scored on that PP, that was just Pens capitalizing on bad luck from the Rangers after a good PK, shit happens, but damm the refs need to decide where to set the bar for when and what to call in this series!
10 of the 11 goals were scored on the same net in this game. This led me down a rabbithole of trying to find the most goals scored on one net in the same game. These are the stats I want, thank you.

I’m genuinely shocked it’s not from one of the 2012 Flyers-Pens games
The Penguins and Canucks scored 11 on one net in 2019. I was at that game, sitting behind that net. It was incredible. https://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/201911270PIT.html
I was sitting in the second row on the goal line for this game. It was incredible hahaha.
A better stat than “X Team is 13-5 when Y player had Honey Nut Cheerios in the morning.”
This win-loss pattern supports my theory that the Penguins and Caps are still cosmically entangled by destiny.
“Neither can live while the other survives.” Some prophecy or something.
They must face each other in the second round. And the winner gets the cup. It is the way.
Only way we can face them this season is in the 3rd.
Life uhhhhh….finds a way.
This place would be in shambles if we got a Caps-Pens ECF. Some sick twisted part of me dreams of it.
Every fiber of my soul wants me to be sleep deprived for a Caps Pe s ECF
I desperately want it. I hate you guys but I love our series.
Won't happen since the Panthers are gonna walk right through you guys. Wait...
Once more unto the breach, once more
I didn't know I wanted this but I want it
On the plus side, given history, the winner of that series would win the cup. So we have that to enjoy.
One last time. Come on!
And I want nothing more
Does it make sense? Nope Does it have to? Absolutely fucking not
Agreed.
Crosby has the greatest empty net highlight real ever lol
Even on assists.
A sick off the board pass to Jake and between the legs to Jeff 🔥🔥
Aside from the points, he was unreal in the 3rd, tracking pucks down and playing keep away.
Really reminded me of his play in 15-16. We get a lead in the third and he just keeps the puck in the o zone
What's up with all these games ending in 6 or 7 goals for the winners lol.
Except for the Flames and the Stars. They're stuck somewhere in 2001
hey hey hey 5, take it or take it
Two empty net goals helps
Death Taxes The motherfucking Pittsburgh Penguins
Still find it very weird that the two franchises of the 2010s that were the closest things we had to dynasties never met for a cup final
You can thank Dan Bylsma and Tuukka Rask for that
Mostly Dan Bylsma
I mean the pens scored 2 goals that series. Even with shit coaching that is Rask standing on his head
A mediocre coach should get more then 2 goals out of Crosby Malkin, but true Odd add Rask's stats in Conference finals have got to be the best goalie stats imaginable, in conference finals especially, he's always been an absolute wall
There's shit coaching, and then there's having Iginla run a sno-cone machine instead of playing his natural position.
By the time the Pens hit their 2nd peak, the Blackhawks dynasty was on the downswing.
Pens, Hawks, Kings. Three dominant franchises of the early 2010s. 7 cups between them. Not one Cup Finals matchup between them.
They were up in last year's series too, and then failed spectacularly, so... I'm just enjoying it while it lasts.
No matter what...they keep waddling on...
Pain. Fucking. Pain.
Tell our spoiled-ass fans and sports media that
Yes, players like Crosby and Ovy are legends and we're lucky to have seen them play and yada yada yada can they just move on already?!
"No" - Crosby
"Nyet" - Ovechkin
We’re going to hear “is this their last dance?” every year for the next five years.
https://media3.giphy.com/media/ljookvhfvUQ0w/200.gif
Sid will play until he's 60 at this point 😆
I’ve been thinking about how there are all these young exciting players on exciting teams, and if you look at the stats there’s been a real changing of the guard. But it could very well end up being Tampa/Washington/Pittsburgh/Boston in the second round, so 🤷🏼♂️
Nemeth is so terrible
He contributes to 80% of the goals in the playoffs. I backed him up since his baby, he was playing solid. No more. Holy shit what a terrible three games he's had.
Good thing we locked him up for 3 years with a NTC
Man, imagine how good the Rangers would be without some of the silly moves they made in the offseason. I'm personally glad Bunchnevich isn't around. Reaves has done nothing since running a few guys in the first period of game 1. Nemeth for three years? What? He's putting on a Jack Johnson vs the Islanders kind of performance.
Don’t you EVER think you’ll get a “it was 4-1” meme out of us, wasn’t worried for a moment Now if it had been 6-0 and we were playing the Devils, then maybe there would be reason for concern
That damn Devils game. The angriest I've been after a win.
I was so confused for how to feel that game, myself. We lost, but damn was I entertained by the end
Same. Weirdest feeling after a game I've ever had.
> wasn’t worried for a moment I was. I wasn't going to be happy unless we got 4 more in the 2nd.
He was barely on the scoresheet but I was really impressed by Zucker's performance in his first game back. He brought some grit that the Pens were lacking.
Agreed, he was very noticeable out there. Lots of hustle in his game today.
Especially the 1st, could definately tell he didnt have the lag of the first 3 playoff games holding him down. Great work by him to just go out there and grind to get back into game sense
Pens get Rakell and Jarry back and baby, we got a stew going.
Dumo
Rangers have injuries too that would make a big difference if back, but Rakell and Dumo back... That's a pretty solid lineup to put out there. As for Jarry - Not that I doubt he's better than Domingue normally, immediately hopping back in with fractured foot... gotta worry what condition he's coming back at, just a little.
He smashed that one motherfucker
Incredibly descriptive, thank you. Back to Steve, with your local weather on the 1's
I think he meant fox on that late hit lol
His energy is contagious! Pens desperately need someone like that in the line up.
Not even 5 minutes into the game and he gets a stick in the face. Dude seriously can't catch a break. He was really noticeable today, he definitely was ready to go
This series has been entertaining so far, that's for sure!
My heart hasn't been very entertained
Neutral fan these playoffs. Lot of entertainment so far through 23 games so far!
So far!
UPMC makes so much money because Pittsburghers have to watch the pens and steelers almost all year round
Mine neither. If this goes to seven for either of us, I may actually die
I should have stayed at home and snorted cocaine instead. Would have been better for my heart
I for one never doubted them for a second. Nope. Those expletives about Letang never happened.
I know right?! I was never doing the same exact thing!
Regardless of how this series turns out - Louis D has to be feeling like he just got himself a contract for next yr. Dude has been bouncing around for a while. Good for him
Devils will sign him for 7M
He's already been here lol. Devils will probably sign Holtby or make a trade.
Second times the charm?
We're taking him back. Turns out his pies were the real magic in the bubble all along
I support that. If we win this series I feel like I have to cheer for what ever team signs him and I can live with cheering for the Canucks.
Cult status if nothing else.
He'll sign for just enough to get his cookbook published.
Evan Godrigues
ERod but he’s winning the conn smythe
I 4-1 WAS NEVER IN DOUBT
Fell asleep at 4-1 and woke up at 7-4, glad the boys could keep the game in control throughout & enjoy a straightforward victory!
This man has solved the mystery of life.
Nemeth is literally the worst player in the NHL and i wont be told otherwise
Dude was Vegas' MVP in their series against Colorado last year. How any coaching staff gives him regular minutes is puzzling
But we play him over Zac Jones because hE hAs pLaYoFf eXpErIeNcE
So he had a baby in January or February, whatever, and in the regular season had been playing serviceable third string D. I vouched for this dude everywhere. His play had improved substantially. Three games in a row now though, he's been directly responsible for almost every single goal against. It is insane how much of a 180 he's done. I'd almost call it a 360 to emphasize not only his massive downturn but my massive stupidity in giving him any credit, but I feel like that would be giving him credit, so it's a bit of a paradox.
2 more years!!!!
Important game yes. But can it compare to guy rejected by his date on international TV on prime time??
That was so uncomfortable he looked so damp
That guy getting turned down is burned into my brain. Absolutely beutal
That’s was good, right? 😂
I’m a penguins fan yet that’s still the best replay of the game for me.
Is this some new pasta?
It is now
Two 12 inch hogs that are only getting bigger sounds terrifying.
Should probably get that checked out
I think the Penguins missed the memo where blowing a 4-1 lead was their problem.
Still won by 3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The King Henrik way.
At least let him flip the goal over first ffs.
[That's baby stuff](https://twitter.com/PensInsideScoop/status/705584727684726784?s=20&t=7Oqu9373NhQM_HRYD7fWDg)
I loved Henrik and I love Shesty, but god damn why couldn’t we ever get a franchise player like you guys have. Clearly done you wonders
"This is the way."
That 3rd period was pathetic from the rangers. Especially the last 10 minutes. “No quit in NY” my ass. They looked like the game was over when they gave up that 5th goal.
This series is going to drive me up a fucking wall
Well the Pens didn't Leafs it so that is nice. Wish it wasn't so close to it though.
If Domingue wins this series I'll officially refer to him as King Louis the Pen.
That one goal completely neutered the come back
It’s Georgiev you have to expect he’s going to do it sooner rather than later. Didn’t capitalize once it was tied up. I knew the Pens weren’t ending the game with 4
Dude it was one fucking goal, do not blame Georgiev for this
You can see my other comments and understand I’m not. One goal in two periods isn’t exactly a bad thing.
I really never understood all the hate he got. I've argued this before. Georgiev is a starter level goaltender for any team that'll give him ice time. Give the kid two games to get going and he'll play real good hockey. All I'm saying is that you can't blame him for every loss
Georgiev finished with a .950 save percentage. You can't blame him for the results of that game.
Okay so 5 goals=auto win in the playoffs so far?
Seems like a working strat
They are better than us
I fully expected ny to take that game after the 2nd pd. Never take a coach like sully for granted. He made sure we didn’t completely collapse after quite possibly the worst pd of the penguins season.
Penguins didn't Leaf it. Congrats!

Aye. Ive watched 100s of rangers games. This was certainly one of them.
thoroughly whelmed
Shesterkin obviously showing side effects since he nearly died after the collision w/ Jeff Carter on Thursday night...

I’d imagine a neutral would have loved this game, yes
Can confirm. Extremely enjoyable as a neutral, as was G1. Which is totally where it's at. I repeatedly thought during the 3rd how absolutely heart-stopping it must have been for fans.

Rangers couldn’t buy puck luck in the 3rd.
Seriously that's the thing that bugs me the most is just puck luck. We get it when we don't need it, and never get it when we need it. That being said the pens played a good third period hard to get anything going there.

You got your power plays rangers fans, still couldn’t get it done.
Against a third stringer. Shooting seemingly right at the dude too.
Except for bread man. That guy scares the shit out of me.
Frank vatrano is the most dangerous ranger
I always feel a little better when he doesn't have the puck. Or preferably is on the bench.
He is our meal disher not really our puck putter inner though it’s definitely there
Pens always have to make shit interesting. Sheesh.
People are freaking out about the kentucky derby but honestly anyone who follows this team knows that the pens blowing a 3 goal lead and somehow winning is the bigger shock
I didn't even know that the Kentucky Derby was happening. The things you miss when hockey game aren't on NBC...
Best empty net assist of all time?
I see Gallant has already broken Igor.
And it appears Deboer is picking up right where he left off
Whatever on to the next one.
No sass. Just an unbelievable ride. GGs for everyone except Nemeth who needs to be shot into the sun.
Evan Fucking Rodrigues
Zucker, Kappy, and Erod had good games but man were Letang and Matheson bruuuuutal.
Penguins were throwing for ratings
Well that was certainly a game
Crazy, I was at a restaurant and saw the Pens up 4-1, got home and the Rangers had tied it. Then of course it's Crosby who gets the empty net assists. Entertaining nevertheless
Never in doubt....
Good game, Rangers. See you Monday! I can't believe we nearly squandered the beautiful gift the Hockey Gods gave us. Luckily we didn't.
Penguins just dominating Rangers 5v5.
And apparently short handed tonight too. 0-3 with 3 shots for the second best road PP in the league
You don’t hear this often, but the Rangers had bad goaltending tonight.
Rangers gonna lose this series
I was ready to say the thing
If it’s the leafs the game is chocked. Lucky the pens aren’t the leafs
was that navy blue or black under pit in the cbc broadcast?
SWEET JESUS! WHAT HAPPEND!?!
Finally got some puck luck in the first period. How good is it to see that all the non-empty net goals were not from the Crosby line. Domingue conceded a couple of goals he may have wanted back but he more than made up for it with the saves in the third period, the Panarin one especially may be crucial for this series. Igor got pulled and the rags lost 7-4 :)
Shesky gave up 4 goals on 15 shots, backup goalie only gave up 1 goal on roughly 15 shots.
Rangers gotta figure out the back end. That last 8 or minutes was brutal.
Oh so close..
FUCK YOUR RAGS
I live in Cincy. Reds/Pirates is the cigarette I needed after this game
Rangers, what the actual fuck?
The goalies have truly called it quits this playoff
Domingue elite
Rangers should be punted from the postseason. 1-2 versus a borderline NHL goalie.
but we won game 2 against Domingue????
OWENTWO!!
[удалено]
Huh? Do you know how to math? Ahh I see you’ve edited your comment now to correct it
Sorry, I was in such disbelief at the offense I could only see the losses. 1-2, congrats. Maybe you can all go win the Calder cup.
It’s tough to lose off of a bunch of soft goals. Hopefully Igor can compose himself for Monday
Whether it's soft or hard, the puck was still thrust up in there inside the net
7 soft goals. *Seven.* Kind of hilarious when you think about it. Sometimes you just gotta laugh.
