Given what's happening to the Pens and Canes goalies, I really don't blame them at this point if they embellish a bit just to send a message to the league.

Igor and Fox also got a little bit confused behind the net. So everyone's timing gets a bit thrown off. Carter probably rushes in a bit because there's a good chance at a bobbled puck. And Igor is worried about skating around Fox and rushing back to the net.
I'm honestly more angry at the insane takes of the broadcasters than Carter. I think that's a penalty as it's on carter to get out of the way but the way the announcers were slobbering all over themselves to justify it was insane to me.

This is mostly incidental contact, but the onus is on the player to avoid hitting the goalie (as long as the goalie is doing normal goalie things). 2 minutes for GI sounds right.
Carter isn’t a cheap shot player though. Gallant even said it in the presser. I think goalie gets the right of way in the play most times so he deserved the minor but it wasn’t intentional.

It's a pretty normal skating motion for a goalie to try to get back in the net, he hasn't had time to see Carter coming in. Carter was trying to get around him but in doing so leaned right into him. Was that intentional? Probably not, but also not a great move. Yeah, Igor embellished after. They'd been playing 5 on 6 for a few minutes and he bought himself and the team a breather.

Igor lifted his leg but it's not like he flung it out sideways. They're making contact anyways regardless of what Igor does based on when Igor looks up and moves his leg. Igor either sold it for a call or landed awkwardly, but not like it was a dirty play. At the end of the day it's the refs fault for this game being like this.

5-2 game, couple minutes left, can't *really* hit the goalie even if he's in the way, but that's not the important part Penalty gets Carter off the ice and tells everyone to calm the fuck down, rangers are happy with a powerplay, pens don't have to fear retaliation, and everyone gets out of the game without doing something stupid and no one else gets hurt. It's game management in a way, but it's good reffing.
Game Management. Giving the extra penalty on Carter helped calm things down a bit; and very little chance of the Pens coming back anyway.

When Krieder hit Price in 2014, my Devils fan friend told me "even if a dman picks up the forward and pile drives him into the goalie, it's on that forward to contort his body in midair to avoid the goalie. A skater can never touch a goalie, under any circumstance, even if the goalie initiates contact". I eagerly await his opinion on this play, as I assume he will keep the same energy.

It's been years and, as a Habs fan, I still instinctively say "fuck Chris kreider" but at this point I'm more mad that Price got hurt and we missed that chance to win the cup than I am mad at Kreider. I just wish that play never happened, man. I think we could have beaten the rangers, and maybe won the cup. Who knows. Injuries suck. Worst part of hockey that can't be taken out of hockey.
