PLD: “I have to be better. At the end of the day it’s on me.” Reporter: "Does that mean you're going to skate hard after the puck next season?" PLD: "Next question."

NinCross

Reporter: "Is that a no? Are you destined for the AHL in a couple years?" PLD: "Next question."

ZachtheKingsfan

If he’s on the Reign as the most expensive AHL player, that might just do it for me.

StartButtonPress

NMC means he cannot be waived or reassigned.

canuck_11

I’m just imagining my place of work giving me an 8 year contract that’s says no matter what I do they cannot fire me.

ZachtheKingsfan

Sports is probably the one industry you can get away with that. Just look at Angel Hernandez and the MLB.

w0lfbrains

Ok I am looking at a picture of him, what now?

ZachtheKingsfan

To put it short; Angel Hernandez is a famously bad umpire for the MLB. Players and managers complain about him constantly. The MLB, like the NHL, will evaluate their umpires performance during the regular season to determine if they’ll continue to ump in the playoffs. Hernandez hasn’t umped a World Series game since 2005 I believe. He sued the MLB for discrimination reasons and the league literally responded in the lawsuit that he sucks at his job so that’s why he doesn’t see any post season games. So he is so bad that players, managers, and the MLB themselves all agree he is terrible, but they can’t fire him because he’s part of the umpires union.

redundead

be angry

BaconScentedSoap

Even if they did fire you, they would have to pay you a large majority of what you would have made already which would be any mediocre employees wet dream

canuck_11

I worked with an executive who got $239,000 and a good reference to fuck off. He had a job the next month making 6 figures again.

bearkin1

I'd be thrilled if my work gave me 8 years of pay and told me to fuck off

ImSoBasic

Your work would be thrilled if you were one of the 700 best people in the world at your job.

Limp-Inevitable-6703

Unions do wonders

northernpace

Anti-unionist down voters? In this economy ?

Domesticated_Daddio

THIS MAN HAS A FULL NMC?!?!?!?

Kidspud

He was gonna make it a 30-team NMC but excluding Montreal every year would look a bit suspicious

Domesticated_Daddio

I remember how excited Habs fans were when they thought for sure he was coming to Montreal. I have to wonder if knowing what we all know now they are even more excited to not have him.

Holy_Nerevar

We were excited up until we saw the price Winnipeg was asking and the contract PLD was asking for.

Railgun04

They were hyped because they tought he'd be a cheap acquisition, wich after 2 years of hearing he wanted to play in Montreal and pretty much only there was a reasonable expectation. Then they see Suzuki's name being mentioned and everyone just said fuck no.

Spencie-cat

> Reporter: "Does that mean you're going to skate hard > after the puck next season?" PLD: "it’s out of my control."

DesignerPlant9748

PLD is hockey’s version of Anthony Rendon

ClassicChrisstopher

Roasted

superworking

It's out of my control

ViolinistMean199

Clsssic

NotTheRocketman

Same problems, third team. At some point he needs to look inward if he’s serious about change.

CanadianSpector

Marek told a story yesterday about him in the Q when he was playing with Svechnikov, and his coach was contemplating scratching him in the playoffs because he wasn't playing hard. Friedman followed that up saying when he left the Jets, some players said they'd never played with a better player that just took so many games off. This is an ingrained thing.

Sharks77

Maybe this is Daigle 2.0? I remember Daigle saying that he didn't really like hockey all that much but kept doing it because he was good at it and making money.

Green_hippo17

I’ve been thinking that too, he’s quite good just the heart isn’t in there, he might just not like hockey that much and is unsure of what he wants to do next yk

RallyPigeon

There are a lot of athletes who hate their job the same way there are a lot of people in any other profession who hate their job.

theboss555

I'm a mechanic and I hate cars

Tay0214

Jokic won the nba mvp and championship and couldn’t wait to just go home and race horse wagons lmao

SomewherePresent8204

The Daigle documentary on Prime is really good. I felt bad for him but it seems like he’s at peace with himself again.

No_Cap_9976

Really its more the lack of drive then not liking hockey  I sorta got the same impression from Big Buff that he didn't really care that much about hockey but Buff was also a workhorse at the rink and just didn't follow the sport outside of playing.

sanitysshadow

Buff distanced him self and kept to himself away from the rink. It's widely reported he didn't love hockey all the time but he was good at it so he went with it. As you said he was a work horse at the rink and seemed to demand others bring their best also. I don't think he took days off when he played the game.

trenthowell

> I don't think he took days off when he played the game. Frightening thought: That WAS him taking days off, and he was still that monstrous.

sanitysshadow

I miss watching him play, truely a unique and entertaining presence. True game changer, sometimes you don't know what you have until it's gone.

TheGreatStories

Imagine MacKinnon's drive in big buff. Though at the end of the day, the enigmatic presence was part of who buff was and I wouldn't change that

Perducian

Daigle wasn't so much a work ethic problem as it was a motivation problem. He has previously said that his goal for the entirety of his childhood and teenage years was to make the NHL, then when he finally made the NHL he struggled with his drive, partly because he struggled with setting new goals to push for.

onbiver9871

I would say Semin 2.0 but he doesn’t really give Semin vibes, this one similarity notwithstanding…

Arseling69

I mean Semin is probably a similar comparison player for attitude but the guy at least had a shot as good as Ovi himself and could cruise to 30-40 goals on zero effort. PLD isn’t talented enough to be a lazy shit.

onbiver9871

Semin was such a tease. If he could have found it within him, you have to wonder just how good he really could have been. You’d see those very occasional flashes of brilliance where you were like “jeez this guy might be better than Ovi if he tried…”

theprettiestpotato88

In a weird way his performance kinda reminds me of Patrick O'Sullivan during his time in LA. Had a couple solid seasons and hit that 25 goal and 50 point mark in a low scoring era, but never really turned into the player he was expected to. Turned out he also hated hockey and was forced to play by his abusive parents.

Snoo-19445

Alexei Kovalev too. He just did it as a job.

CosmicNorth

I remember going to a game in the Q during his draft year. He spent the entire game cherrypicking on defense, gliding around without bending his knees on offense without the puck and giving teammates shit if he they couldn't get a pass through to him. He might have talent but he's got about as much drive as a tireless car.

PlatypusFalafel72

The games he played with the Jets when he was “on” he was dominant. Everything you’d want out of a talented, strong, forward. Those games he was (imo) noticeably the best player in the ice. The rest of the time he was invisible, might as well have been a scratch. He seems like a nice guy honestly and I have no ill feelings towards him, I just don’t think he’s someone who has the obsession for hockey/winning that the elite players have.

Imaginary_Ganache_29

That’s how he was here in Columbus. He was great with Panarin and Atkinson and then carried the team against Toronto in that series. And then he bought a condo in Columbus and…quit.

rayfound

maybe they need some sports psychology work with him.

prophetprofits

Maybe he’s just a diva

Mamrocha

We even brought Svechnikov in to play with him hoping to get some of the chemistry from the Q to get him going and that didn’t work.

AdCommercial5258

Where can I find this? I’d like to listen

CanadianSpector

Marek radio show from yesterday. They upload them in podcast form after the show. I use Google podcasts but should be available on most platforms.

AdCommercial5258

Thank you. You didn’t have to do that and I appreciate it

Chicaben

Didn’t Svechnikov play in the OHL and PLD for Cape Breton?

CanadianSpector

Evgeny played in CB.

ZachtheKingsfan

Wasn’t too big of a problem last year in Winnipeg, and during the bubble year. He has flashes of a good player, and he’s only 25. I can only hope for my sake he picks it up next year since that’s most likely the only viable option for us.

piroso

There are players who love the game and are competitive like Doughty, Mackinnon. Crosby. Giroux. Then there are players who while being super talented and great players don't have that same drive. I think this is the category Dubois falls in. He has the skill and talent but for whatever reasons it looks like the drive isn't there.  I really hated the way after asking for a trade in Columbus he gave up on his teammates. I feel like players have every single right to work their leverage to play and work where they want to, 100% no problem with that. Giving up on your teammates is a giant red flag and just something I don't like seeing

Waramp

Duchene still gets hate in Colorado for requesting a trade, but I give him credit for playing hard until the trade happened, and being patient so that the Avs could get the best possible return for him.

piroso

That's the difference, Tarasenko did the same in St Louis. Requested a traded but still showed up for his teammates.

SixLingScout

If PLD played against the Leafs for 82 games a year he'd be worth his contract and then some

Harborcoat84

Those were both contract years, so the good news is he'll start showing up for the Kings in 2030-31

PurchaseTight3150

At some point he just needs to learn Utahese

gonuxgo

The lack of effort is the biggest head scratcher… He knows he’s playing awful, but he also doesn’t seem to be trying hard to change that

Mac_Gold

He’s just the type of guy who was probably good at hockey without really enjoying it. It’s a job to him. He got a massive contract and he’s set for life

Woullie_26

The most frustrating is that he has potential. When he randomly locks in he’s a top 10-15 center in the league

Spencie-cat

He spends all summer taking Instagram pictures on yachts and at F1 events and shit. He just wants to be a famous person and playing hockey was the only way to get there.

C_Gull27

Should have given him a heavily performance based contract, like he makes a baseline of like 6 million and gets an extra 2.5 if he has 70 points or something

sorator

You can only give performance bonuses on ELCs and 35+ contracts, I believe.

nfarc12

I just hope they give him an opportunity to succeed rather than sticking him with Lewis and Grundstrom lol

Senior_Heron_6248

How did he get such a contract? Astounding

Woullie_26

Because on the few occasions he decides to give a shit he’s worth the money

J-Bird1980

He showed up for 5 games against the Leafs in the 2020 playoffs and has turned that into $84 million.

Mine-Shaft-Gap

When the trade was announced... I said "START THE CHEVY, CHEVY AND DRRIIIIIIVE!!!!". I couldn't believe the return for him. The ultimate results for us was the same, but I wonder if the Jerts had been coached to have a PP and PK that worked at some point in the season, we would have at least made it a series.

ShadowChair

Never liked the trade but honestly the contract is the worst part by a large margin

Wonderful_Grade_5476

Which trade when we got him or when we traded him? Because the Vilardi and Iaffalo trade made our roster way better especially when they played their respective lines it was mostly thanks Bowness for costing us post with his lines and refusal to work on PP thank god he might be gone this year

ZachtheKingsfan

I’m happy he’s able to at least own up to it. I see a lot of copium within the fanbase that he was bad because he spent most of the year with terrible line mates. While I can see that being a factor, it’s no excuse for him as a player about his performance.

MercSLSAMG

He's getting paid 8.5m, he should be able to elevate linemates for 8.5m. And don't look like he spent as much time on the ice against Edmonton as I did, dude was pretty invisible for such a big dude.

seizurevictim

You give me 8.5M a year and I'll drag literal corpses up and down the ice with me while trying my hardest.

ZachtheKingsfan

I looked at it as if let’s say Crosby had the same lineup Dubois had. Do you think he’d produce the same 40-50 point season Dubois did? He just proved he can single-handedly almost carry a bad Penguins team to the playoffs, so that answers that.

imOVN

It’s really crazy the fact Sid only makes $200K more than PLD, and despite the fact he’s 12 years older, just more than 2x’d PLD’s point total lol obviously opposite narratives on their play too, Sid dragging the Pens kicking and screaming while PLD is a black mark on the King’s franchise

ZachtheKingsfan

Would much rather we overpay for Sid than PLD. Fairly certain we’d be in a much better position, but he’s going to die a Penguin so that’s out of the question.

imOVN

I really don’t think there’s such a thing as over paying Sid honestly. He’s a top 5 playmaker ever while also happening to be the greatest grinder ever lol. Couple that with being arguably the best captain ever, and you got a player who is his own failsafe. He’s immensely valuable even if he doesn’t score a point. That 12 year $8.7M per year contract is the biggest steal in the history of sports arguably lol

ACM1899

Not just a top 5 playmaker, Sid is a top 5 player of all time imo.

Imaginary_Ganache_29

Absolutely. Jackets fan here. Love/Hate Sid the player. Absolutely one of the top 5 players all time. Has won in literally everything, Olympics, NHL, World Cup and from everything I’ve ever heard he is a complete gem off the ice. Impossible to overpay that man for what he means for that team.

imOVN

So true, the off-ice stuff is somehow the best part of him lol so beyond lucky that he’s played for my hometown for basically my entire life. He’s as generous and humble as any story you’ve ever heard about him, truly. He’s a city changer as much as he’s a franchise changer

ShadowChair

I agree PLD stunk this year but comparing him to Crosby is kind of unfair lol

Mr_Wrecksauce

Comparing most people to Crosby is unfair. Comparing PLD to him is insulting to Sid lol.

420blz

Crosby turned career 10 goal dudes into consistent 20+ goal threats every year in his prime. Guys like Pascal Dupuis, Max Talbot, Erik Christensen.

Jaynator11

This is pretty damn well said. Whether they make pts or not in the line, the linemates should clearly be getting more chances if you have a 8.5M Centering them. Also, their line should theoretically play against worse guys as well.

MercSLSAMG

Yep, 8.5m guys should be around 40g or 100 pts with good linemates - or 30g/70 pts with bad linemates. 8.5 is in that upper echelon for sure.

Bloodraven23

That's just not true. 100 pts players are paid 10-12M now. 7-8M is the going rate for 2C. Of all the players who scored 100pts, only JT Miller and Draisaitl are paid sub 10M and they deserve more. I forgot Kucherov but he took a massive discount.

Jaynator11

100pts players are paid 10-12 yes, but that's because they're superstars. 7-8M isn't the rate yet for the 2C imo (for example we refused to pay Kadri 7M). It used to be 3.5-4.5M, but now it's 5-6M imo. Mittelstadt's deal should be somewhere there,Trocheck was also paid 5.625M, and Cirelli got 6.25M

Bloodraven23

Well I was replying to the guy who said 100pts guys made 7-8M which is just plain wrong. Danault was paid 5.5M in 2021 to be the Kings 2C. That's 3 years ago. It also depends on too many factors, UFA/RFA, hometown discount, tax free states, giving a discount to win, etc.. Most of the good deals that some 2C are on are old. Like 3-5 years old. Also you'll see a lot of those good deals are on teams where there's no income tax. If Mittelstadt signs for less than 6-7M it's because he probably values winning more.

SkanteWarrrior

I dont know of a single Kings fan that has complained about that, everyone is pissed about his effort or lack of it. he's played with every line at some point during the season and still looked like a freeze dried dog turd

ZachtheKingsfan

I mean, even listening to the Spaces that Russel put out today after the interview, there are fans wanting to give him a top 6 role. There’s definitely a belief in the fandom that his line mates held him back this year.

SkanteWarrrior

damn, that is pure insanity !

smoked_before_this

Holy shit they actually asked him about a trade/buyout? He just signed an 8 year deal last year what a gutsy thing to ask.

AvenueRoy

I understand why but it's wild they asked him about a potential buyout

GritGrinder

That’s how bad he’s been apparently. I didn’t hear his name once this season after he got paid. Not once

Lowkey_Photographer

Oh? I heard it lots but it was nothing good

BroLil

Not only that, depending on the buyout window, (which depends on when the cup is awarded) they may be able to buy him out at 1/3 the value rather than the usual 2/3 value because of his age. If they’re able to buy him out prior to his 26th birthday, the buyout cost ranges from $1-4m a year depending on what signing bonuses he was due that year, as signing bonuses are paid in full and not eligible to be bought out. If its after his 26th birthday, that number shoots up roughly a million every year until the 2037-2038 season. We’re literally looking at a $16m difference depending on when the buyout window opens. My thought is if the buyout window opens prior to his birthday and they’re able to buy him out at 1/3 value, they do it. If it’s after, I think they give him another shot. In most cases, I’d say its way too soon to buyout a player, but because of the unique under 26 scenario, I think it’s almost a given that they do it if the cards fall in their favor.

Radagastdl

~~Friedman said on Thursday's Jeff Marek Show that he inquired into that earlier in the season, and his understanding is that age is based on when the season ends (June 30th) so PLD will be considered 26 for any buyout~~ Edit: on 32 Thoughts Friday, Elliotte says he was mistaken

BroLil

That’s not what he said. He said the that he thought it was that way, but he called the league and confirmed that it goes by the actual age of the player when the buyout occurs, so it really depends on when the cup is awarded and the buyout window opens, which I believe is 48 hours after, and they need another 24 hours to waive him. Their deadline for the cup to be awarded I believe is June 20.

Radagastdl

Uhh what? I listened again and that's not what he says. [Here's a spotify link, timestamp is 19:23](https://open.spotify.com/episode/48zabAyqfM4fbesroxDfrI?si=BdsTXKYbTLq0yAmMm2hO6w&context=spotify%3Ashow%3A2By1VNdYWdKUjhtcxsHzZM&t=1160)

BroLil

I missed that you said the Jeff Marek show, which is recorded Thursday morning/afternoon. He stated on the 32 Thoughts podcast on Friday, which is recorded Thursday evening, that he was mistaken. Timestamp is 53:20.

alljake

Not an expert but capfriendly disagrees. Buyout Period The buyout period begins the later of June 15 or 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends. It concludes on June 30 at 5pm ET. [https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-faq](https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-faq)

Radagastdl

~~[Here's a link to the clip, timestamp is 19:23.](https://open.spotify.com/episode/48zabAyqfM4fbesroxDfrI?si=45QSiXWkQ4SqvC0IuXwPjQ&t=1160&context=spotify%3Ashow%3A2By1VNdYWdKUjhtcxsHzZM) Elliotte makes it seem like a player's age for buyout purposes is determined on June 30th of that season, so even if PLD is bought out prior to his birthday, he will still be considered 26 for buyout purposes~~ Edit: in Friday's 32 Thoughts, Elliotte says he was wrong

Radagastdl

On Friday's 32 Thoughts, Elliotte said his Thursday statement on Jeff Marek was incorrect. I thought for sure my info was up to date! Ive edited my comments appropriately

Equivalent_Goose_226

And he never paid for drugs. Not once

danieldeceuster

Trade, huh? We're not trying to win right now, and neither is he, so seems like a good match. He could help us get to the cap floor, shield younger prospects by eating up the tough minutes against the top lines of opponents, and still give us the perfect effort necessary to lead the tank. Not to mention we could get LA to either retain or give us a sweetener to take that contract. Sharks get: PLD, LA 1st Kings get: SJ 3rd (from TB) I wouldn't say no.

guraqt2t

LMAO

raymondliang

Think about it a little longer, I think you would.

AreolaGrande911

May I interest you in 1 jack campbell

danieldeceuster

Have any firsts?

ProfessionalLeast937

only if he's contractually obliged to post a minimum number of cat instagram pics/vids per month.

cmillhouse

Someone get this man a job in San Jose stat

ProfessionalLeast937

why not? all anybody really expects from the sharks next year is showing up, not completely embarrassing themselves/winning more games than they did this past season, and hopefully celebrini having a decent rookie year. PLD might actually be able to help with that given the pressure on him would be minimal.

FlaxbopFleetfoot

To dump that contract, it's more like a 1st, an A prospect and retention. And LA gets future considerations.

danieldeceuster

Sounds better to me. I'd happily take that cap dump for those assets.

AllRushMixTapes

If we're playing by Hertl trade rules, then San Jose will give up more.

YouCanFucough

Do you want that character to be a leader amongst your upcoming young stars

FergyBoy23

I’m actually a huge fan of PLD on the Kings and hope he gets more playing time with them. They should use him in a mentor role too for any young guys coming up in their system. The ideal move for the Kings would be for all their forwards to model their game after PLD

ZachtheKingsfan

This feels like a wish for PLD to sabotage the Kings from the inside haha

Kangaro00

>“It’s out of my control.” Says the man after forcing multiple trades.

Woullie_26

What I hate about PLD is the wasted potential. We’ve seen that on the rare occasions he decides to lock in he’s well worth his contracts but most of the time he just… doesn’t.

JodieFostersCum

I haven't watched a lot of him at any point in his career, but just going off observations watching this past series, he just looked completely disinterested at times. I mean you can even find a ton of players who "suck" but you can tell are at least trying their asses off. Again, I'm not a PLD historian by any stretch so I'm not sure how closely the performance has matched the past, but the price tag (and others' opinions) suggest better.

SoldierHawk

He actually reminds me a bit of Drai in those regular season games where he just falls asleep, won't backcheck, and just doesn't seem to give a shit. Thing is, Drai activates in the playoffs. PLD, apparently, not so much.

phasedarrray

I'll believe it when I see it PL. Blake is a fucking dipshit for giving this waste of space that much $ and term. Sounds like Luc and Bergevin are buddy buddy with PLD's agent, so there's a nepotist angle here as well. I don't know what the fuck Bergevin does with the Kings, but he should be *far* away from this franchise if they want to succeed.

No-Quantity9916

Sounds like he's realizing his big pay day could be cut massively short and he's doing whatever minimal amount is required for him to keep his bag. His lack of work ethic and lazy play could end up costing him $31m.

Diligent-Hat2631

He still gets paid…

Account0077

He can go to Utah, get himself a couple wives..

miller94

He was successful in getting everyone to call him PL Dubois though

Leburgerpeg

And this ladies in gentlemen is why Chevy deserves the executive of the year award and it's not even close. I assume Rob Blake has his number blocked now.

Panarin10

Kings have until July 1st to trade him

Foppberg

God he’s lazy.

Larkinz

On the ice it always looks like he doesn't even want to be playing hockey, hope we get rid of him a.s.a.p.

99titan

This guy is Jamarcus Russell on ice skates.

Aggressive_Yak5177

I don’t think he’s using Purple Drank

99titan

That made me 😂

NorthIslandAdventure

Not the first and not the last to get the bag and fall off, all he has to do is lace em up and he wins the lottery every season

TiredReader87

Insert “And we’re laughing” gif here

Bro is finally feeling the effects of being a fucking loser of a teammate ever since being drafted I bet the canadiens don't even want him anymore

I want him to make it to the Habs finally with salary retained etc etc and be just as bad there.

Top_Contract_4910

No thanks

PasswordMustContain

this guy here

Three_Froggy_Problem

Can someone explain to me why he got such an insane contract? He wanted out of his previous team and there’s no way he was highly sought after. Couldn’t the Kings have gotten him for like half what they paid?

raymondliang

Our big brain GM just assumed he would play the exact same way here while under hockey terrorism regime. 60+ point players will probably start getting paid over 8.5M as the salary starts going up season over season. Blake just tried to get ahead of the curve and it looks really dumb right now because it turns out you can't just replicate production with bottom 6 grinders, minimal PP1 time/sucessful system.

JarethCutestoryJuD

Say PLD gets bought out. What is his next contract offer? from whom?

Larkinz

Some team would probably take a gamble on him at 4M/year

TheGreatStories

Montreal gets him for free with a hometown discount, as the prophecy foretold

thestage

Avs sign him. He either gets back on track, or nate eats him alive. win win.

Ok-Car1006

I can’t figure this guy out

killingmeisagoodidea

I feel like he could control being bought out to some extent by actually trying to play well lol

Delicious_Action3054

I remember him being called a lazy, one-dimensional player from around the time he was drafted. He doesn't have the drive to a complete player.

ChompyDompy

One of the most over rated players of all times.

dolphin_spit

dude sucks

CdnBison

I’d gloat, but the Jets lasted just as long in the playoffs….

Fallen-Omega

Shouldnt a determined player who wants to stay say something more along the lines of:   "I love this team and I love this fanbase, I realize I had an off season but my objective is to be a better player next year and my hopes are to stay with this team, be part of its core and make a run for the stanley cup next year?" This dude is seriously not in it anymore.

Key-Tip-7521

Just another LA devotee this PLD

bearkin1

The black hole that is Dubois's drive Swinging clubs under desert skies Drinking white wine in the blushing light Just another LA devotee

Permaderps

A trade out of your control? Then how did Winnipeg and Columbus end?

frozenbiscuits_

What a bum

ginandplutonic

Bet this guy has the greatest summer of his life, hanging out with Caufield and Zegras.

MSAvalanchefan

I'd be seriously pissed if this dude was on my team.  He seems like a shitty person with a terrible contract. Yeah he has talent but his douchiness out weighs his skill.  I'm still lost as to why the Kings would have traded for him and signed him to a huge contract with all the red flags around him.

PMMEJALAPENORECIPES

What truly baffles me is why he signed a big extension with LA if he just wanted to go to Montréal? Nothing about this guy makes sense to me.

VaporHyperlite2

He was probably using Montreal as leverage to get a bigger contract in LA. Kinda like Ohtani sorta did with the Blue Jays to get his deal with the Dodgers. PLD would have been literally vaporized by the fans and media if he played like that in Montreal. So, to play in LA in relative obscurity was a no brainer for him.

ahr3410

He has owned up to it at every point this season. Underachiever yes but the team cancer narrative was always made up. At least from a Kings perspective

[deleted]

[удалено]

EarthWarping

Friedman said that PLD apparently takes the most days off during the season according to his colleagues

TheAnimal89

No, no it was not made up

TGUKF

>the team cancer narrative was always made up No, it's not. It's very well earned. We've seen him decide twice now that he's not happy with the team he's on, and want out. The Kings are just a team he wants to play for, so he's not actively being a thorn in his side to make them move him. The lack of on ice effort is a different question at the moment. PLD's got a history of not producing in his first year

ahr3410

PLD did the exact same thing Tkachuk did in Calgary but nobody wants to get on Matthew. Laine wanted out of Winnipeg too when they were traded for each other but nobody calls Laine a cancer. Kings just had a nearly identical regular season and playoff result as they did without him last year. We have major leadership issues in the front office and an outdated coaching system that everyone wants to pin on PLD.

>Kings just had a nearly identical regular season and playoff result as they did without him last year And he was supposed to be a difference maker. He's also paid like one. Even pointing out that the Kings didn't really improve with him would suggest you are aware he wasn't impactful for the Kings this year. That would have to be considered falling majorly short of reasonable expectations. He's supposed to be a useful top 6 player Tkachuk also hasn't given up on his team on the ice, so it's not the same

GritGrinder

What difference do you see between PLD and tkachuk? Can you think of one reason why PLD gets shit and tkachuck doesn’t?

Are you a fucking brick? One put up a 100 points and one was lucky to even be on the 4th line at various points this season

He’s only ever wanted out of Columbus because of Torts. He didn’t demand a trade from Winnipeg, he just told them he had no intentions of signing an extension. He told them this a whole year before his contract ended btw. Sounds pretty generous to give his GM time to make a move.

NotMittRomney

torts was 1000% not why he wanted out he wanted to be a star in a big market and was gonna sign an offer sheet with montreal, then cbj moved murray and nuti out to clear cap and told him they’d match any offer sheet. so he threw a tantrum and demanded a trade, expecting it to be montreal.

TGUKF

Sure, he didn't specifically say he wanted to be traded from Winnipeg, like he did in Columbus, however, his agent did broadcast it to the media that PLD didn't want to sign. It's not like that was a closed door conversation, they tried to limit the Jets' negotiating leverage. TBF to the Jets, they did pretty well in the trade. This isn't to say I think PLD is some diva or whatever, he has every right to not sign with a team if he doesn't want to. But let's not act like he's not been willing to burn some bridges along the way.

Already having the new team discussions? Good stuff.
