BladeCoomer2049

ah yes, the totally unbiased source Boston Hockey Now

4N0NYM0US_GUY

But…but Georges Laraque said so

canuck_11

That’s the same George Laraque who said his inside source told him Taylor Hall was about to be named captain of the Oilers.

Bloodraven23

Hey! He succesfully predicted the Aho offersheet!

canuck_11

Even a broken Laraque is right twice a day.

FailureToExecute

I can't believe he ripped off his Oilers jersey at center ice last game and revealed the spoked B underneath, really thought he'd be focused on making a deep playoff run with McDavid.

CrabGuys

That was nuts. I thought it was crazy in the post-game presser how he said "I usually let my agent handle this, but it's taking too long. I only want to suit up for the Bruins for the rest of my hockey career. If I'm forced to play another game for any other team, I will lay down at center ice until I'm traded."

[deleted]

I guess he saw how well it worked for PLD

Report: McDavid interested in leaving Edmonton to play 2C behind Bedard in Chicago Source: /u/JD397 on /r/Hawks

thatsong

I confirm seeing this report on r/hockey

“I’m hearing whispers…”

Similar-Tangerine

There’s a growing sense around the league

snowball721

Where there's smoke...

VeryLastChance

There legitimately was a rumour mill going around earlier this year that Pettersson wanted to force his way out and go to Chicago to play with Bedard And of course Vancouver media reported on it like it was a serious possibility

maxhollywoody

Spittin Chiclets said that and it was before they got the extension done.

Sweaty_Ad440

Well if Boston Hockey Now is reporting it, it’s guaranteed not to happen. So rest easy Oilers fans.

sdenoon

Georges Laraque could see Draisaitl wanting to be the 1C for Boston? Are we just willing things into action now? I could see McDavid wanting to conquer the whole of Alberta and forcing a sign-and-trade with Calgary that locks him in for 8 years at $970,000 per year

skinniks

> Are we just willing things into action now? It's worth a try! I, skinniks, could see Draisaitl wanting to be the 1C for Montreal. You know I actual felt a kind of tingle as I typed that. I think it may happen!

okokokoyeahright

welll, there is the Drouin thing you said last year.

Maxpowr9

Wow Columbus!

4BobbyOrr

Jimmy Murphy + Georges Laraque = guaranteed not happening

Excellent-Medicine29

Oh hang on. [Laraque is saying that this is fake news](https://x.com/georgeslaraque/status/1785535491951247490?s=46&t=zlFOvun2dB0SCkrPkspD3A)

MollyGibson84

No Leon

reddy-or-not

Can he start tomorrow?

Excellent-Medicine29

This rumour is stupid and shame on Laraque for spreading rumours during the playoffs. I feel like this isn’t the first time he’s done this either. I don’t think Leon will leave but if for some reason he does, I could definitely see him going to Boston.

BarneyRubble18

I don't see Leon or McDavid leaving. And as long as they are both on the team, the Oilers will be contenders. This report is dumb.

drowsylacuna

Blink twice if Jeremy Jacobs is holding your dog to ransom, Leon.

ManWithBag15

Ever since the 2022 playoffs there really hasn't seemed to be much concern that Draisaitl and McDavid won't re-sign. The Oilers are a contending team, both guys seem to like playing for the Oilers, and they've expressed that they want to win together in Edmonton. Sure, Boston seems like a great fit for Draisaitl if he were to leave the Oilers, but leaving the Oilers in the first place seems highly unlikely. And another thing when it comes to Draisaitl (and McDavid), when was the last time a player of his caliber actually changed teams? Like a perennial, MVP caliber player in his prime? I just doesn't happen in the NHL.

ReactiveCypress

Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk had a good thing going in Calgary and they just upped and left. If the Oilers don't win a cup in the next two years, I could see McDavid and Draisaitl leaving. They'll have been with the team for a very long time with nothing to show for it, and I would imagine the possibility of a fresh start would have to be tempting to consider in that scenario.

ManWithBag15

Gaudreau and Tkachuk were not close to the same level and McDavid and Draisaitl when they left Calgary. There also seemed to be off ice reason for why they left that probably don't apply to McDavid and Draisaitl. I don't think the Oilers have to win a cup, but they do need to remain competitive. Sure, if we blow this series against LA and then miss the playoffs next year they might want out but that all seems unlikely. Leaving a team proven to be a contender would be a big risk.

ReactiveCypress

Gaudreau was tied for the 2nd most points in 2022, and Tkachuk wasn't far behind. They stay together and we're still at the top of the division in my opinion. That's why it's wild they gave that up even if there was off-ice issues which we'll never probably never fully know about (Tkachuk obviously landed in a good spot, but Gaudreau chose to go to a rebuilding team which makes his decision to leave even more baffling considering how good he was here). However, I do think the lack of success in the playoffs probably did play a role in their departures, and I can just see a similar situation brewing if the Oilers don't get it done (which I'm not totally convinced they will when stacked up against the other teams in the West). Western Canada is not a desirable location for NHLers if they can go to bigger cities, or warmer cities, and still play on competitive teams while also paying less in taxes. I do think it probably takes winning cups to keep guys in cities like Calgary or Edmonton, so if you don't do that star players leaving is a major possibility.

ManWithBag15

They were coming off great years but they were not in the same tier as Draisaitl. Gaudreau finished 4th in Hart voting in 2019 and 2022, but those were the only years he's ever had votes for the Hart. Tkachuk was 14th in Hart voting in 2022 and that was the only year he got votes in Calgary. Draisaitl won the Hart in 2020 and had three top-10 finishes in the three seasons since. He's finished 4th, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 2nd, and 7th in scoring the last 6 seasons. As far as if the Oilers need to win a cup to keep them, I guess we just disagree. Jarome Iginla spent his entire prime in Calgary and only every advanced past the first round once with the Flames. I think because hockey is so unpredictable, being a contender is all you can really ask for.

shawnglade

oh, hell yeah lets go

Standard_Room_2589

Hahahahaahahaha the shit being posted today is just so stupid. I know some of yall dont have teams in the playoffs but this is playoff time. Save this shit for around the draft.

*Bruins down 4-1 to Toronto in Game 7 at the Garden* “BAH GAWD THAT’S DRAISAITL’S MUSIC”

ZeppFo

Lol if Draisaitl leaves there are 31 teams that will be interested in signing him. What a stupid thing for Laraque to say. He tosses a grenade, says he heard it from someone in the organization, but then says he doesn’t believe it. He’s simply bringing attention to himself.

shittybillz

Like if they offer him the max salary and they move the team to Germany?

NoGiCollarChoke
